Chile based metal act Procession is currently in the studio recording a new full-length album titled "Destroyers of the Faith." The six track album will be released later this year via Doomentia Records. The band has checked in from the studio with the following recording report:
"Destroyers of the Faith is at hand. Six tracks of monolithic and heavy-as-a-metal-festival-whalegirl doom metal, paying tribute to the ancient rites of Candlemass, Black Sabbath, Count Raven, Solstice, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Confirmed: EPICUS DRUMICUS METALLICUS have been conceived in the old fashion, the way it has to be! Francisco Aguirre did a great fuckin dedicated job, drums are done now, also reference guitars... it was a freakin marathon and i´m already sick of my own riffs... Tomorrow we just choose the best nut-kicking takes before starting with the gut-ripping work of Claudio on the bass guitar, starting really early again. No funny stories, this is DOOM METAL."
You can also check out sample Procession songs through the band's MySpace page.
French band Glorior Belli has issued the following announcement about creating a side band to release a new album:
"During the past couple of months there have been a few announcements about Glorior Belli's new full-length and artistic direction, yet it was still unclear where all those changes would take us. Today, we'd like to bring a new development to your attention: Experimenting has always been an important matter to us, however having the new material tagged as Glorior Belli would be inconsistent, unless we really never go back to playing black metal.
"So in order to set things right, we decided to create a side project called '11 As In Adversaries' and release 'The Full Intrepid Experience of Light' [previously announced as Glorior Belli's 4th full-length] as a debut. Separating things will help us being more efficient on all fronts. We understand that this decision can be confusing but it's really just a formality!
"The foolhardy venturers who has shown their support to the new material and would like to keep doing it are welcome to follow '11 As In Adversaries' on Myspace. Note that there is truly a successor to 'Meet Us...' coming for Glorior Belli. More information will be revealed soon."
Slayer has issued the following statement about celebrating the upcoming International Day of Slayer:
"This Sunday, June 6, heavy metal fans from around the world will unite to celebrate the fourth International Day of Slayer (IDoS), and demand the official recognition of June 6 as a public holiday. Those who observe the holiday are encouraged to stage 'Slay-outs:' 'Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car, in your home, at your place of employment, and in any public place you prefer.' Headphones are considered an offense to the movement.
"When this crusade first launched four years ago on 06/06/06, it was in response to the American 'National Day of Prayer,' which is held on the first Thursday of May. Gaining momentum every year, the IDoS Board last year petitioned the White House for official recognition of the holiday, citing that 'heavy metal music is the central belief of a culture that exists among us, and Slayer is the perfect spokesperson.'"
During a recent interview with AOL's NoiseCreep, Slayer's Kerry King said about the International Day of Slayer, "I think it's awesome, and it's totally cool that fans have taken the time to maintain it. Slayer should have a national holiday - there are enough stupid holidays out there, so why not have one for us?" More...
The 2010 edition of the Hole In The Sky festival is set to take place in Bergen, Norway from August 24th - 28th. The organizers have now issued the following update about Von performing at the festival:
"We promised you one surprise act, here is another: One of THE cult acts in the Black Metal Pantheon, the legend that is VON will perform in Bergen during Hole in the Sky 2010. Their two demos 'Satanic Blood' and 'Blood Angel' are among the most unique releases in Black Metal ever, songs like 'Lamb,' 'Devil Pig,' 'Veadtuck,' and 'Watain' have never been copied or bettered in all their minimalistic, hypnotic glory. Founding members Goat and Venien have decided to reform VON for a select number of shows, with Hole in the Sky being one the few festivals."
Comments the band: "Hole in the Sky Festival is a gathering of the Hordes of Norwegian Darkness and Ritual of Chaos, and that in itself is a significant precursor to our involvement and participation. VON is pleased and honored to be included within the ranks of such bands. VON will perform as special guest on the Wednesday dubbed Invocation together with Rotting Christ, Dead Congregation, Repugnant, Grave Miasma and Urfaust."
The currently confirmed lineup for the festival is as follows: More...
California death metal act Abscess, which featured Chris Reifert of Autopsy, has issued the following announcement about deciding to call it a day:
"Greetings, sickos. We need to inform you that Abscess has officially broken up. The reason for this is that Clint Bower has left the band for personal reasons and out of respect to him and to all who have supported us for these 16 years, we have decided to call it a day. Without Clint Bower, there can be no Abscess so we won't even try to cheat anyone with something that is not the real thing. 'Dawn of Inhumanity' has become our final statement and we feel that it is the perfect way to close the Abscess chapter since we must do so. Thanks to all of you who were and still are proud to call yourselves Abscess Freaks!
"The other side of this statement is to announce that Autopsy is officially active again. With the line up of Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles on guitars, Chris Reifert on drums/vocals and Joe Trevisano (formerly Allen) on bass, Autopsy is now the full time focus. Longtime friend and bass destroyer Dan Lilker has performed with Autopsy at Maryland Death Fest VIII and will also do so at the upcoming Party San and Hole in the Sky festivals in August of this year before Joe Trevisano takes over full time on bass. A new Autopsy E.P. and full length album are in the works and will be released on Peaceville records along with an upcoming documentary dvd. Also in the works is a new official Autopsy website, so keep your eyes open for that. Any other Autopsy sites or pages out there are fan sites and not run by the band. Again, thanks to all. All we can do is offer more brutality."
Norway's Escapetor has issued the following announcement about recruiting new guitarist Axel Feller:
"Escapetor welcomes guitarist Axel Feller. Axel joined Escapetor a couple of weeks ago and immediately started rehearsing with us in our studio. Axel brings 18 years of guitar-playing and a kick-ass heavy metal attitude to the band. Axel has played in various bands in Germany; Brain Damage, Stromkreis, Bonanzaz. After having moved to Norway Axel spent the resent years focused on composing and recording demos of his songs and awaiting the right opportunity to join a band.
"Escapetor are rehearsing with Axel to get him up to speed on our songs from Moments (2005) and Misanthropia (2009) for the gigs at Chevy´s on May 7th and Helgåråkken June 19th. Beyond those two events, we assume start working on the material we have prepared for Escapetor´s planned release late 2010. We wish Axel welcome on the team, and wish both him and us the best of luck for an exiting time to come."
You can also check out Escapetor songs via the band's MySpace page.
Dutch death metallers Nox have announced they inked a deal to release a new album via Listenable Records. The band issued the following brief statement about the signing: "'I put my hand and seal.' Sweden's Spawn of Possession is currently streaming a pre-production track online via the band's MySpace page. Spawn of Possession issued the following statement about the song and update about an upcoming album:
"Just breaking the silence a little bit. This is a preprod recorded at home in n-track and cubase with digital drums. So the production is pretty bad and muddy. But the production for a preprod is not very important anyway. We record preprods so we can work with the arrangements and etc. Since we cant rehearse together, we do this instead. This is the first version of the song. So its not perfect.
"Some stuff which gonna be different on the album version are: * The bass intro * some guitar stuff in the middle of the song * the vocals patterns gonna be polished * new/polished drum patterns * A guitar solo in the end before the verse starts again.
"Eight songs are now complete, so there are four songs left to finish up, and the song writing process has been quite good lately. The new songs are more massive (epic), detailed, faster, melodic, brutal, catchier and energetic than the old ones. And so far I'm (we) are happy with the result. It sounds really close to the vision I got right after the recording of Noctambulant. Which was to take everything one step further. To me personally the third album will be the ultimate SoP album. Because this time I finally got the time to sit down and write down those visions which has been haunting me for years. This would never have been possible with the old members. They where pretty much exhausted and done after Noctambulant. Can't blame them for that, It was a difficult period with a lot of stress and hard work. I was pretty fucked up myself after being isolated for one year of songwriting and practicing. More...

In a recent interview with MTV News, iconic guitarist Slash discussed the future of Velvet Revolver, the band he formed seven years ago with fellow former Guns N Roses members Duff McKagen and Matt Sorum.
"As soon as we got off the road from the last tour and parted ways with Scott, we got together and wrote half a dozen really great, sort of heavy metal pieces of music," Slash told MTV News. "It's a lot heavier than what Velvet Revolver has put out, so I'm dying to put out the quintessential Velvet Revolver record.
Slash said the new material better matches the group's original intentions. "When Duff and Matt and I first got together, we wrote a ton of material that never saw the light of day, and that was all very heavy.
"It's definitely our natural way of doing things. But when we started working with Scott, we started to lighten things up a lot, and we progressively got lighter. As much as I love the two records we did do, one of the things that was progressively more and more frustrating was the direction the band took."
