Avenged Sevenfold has recorded and released a brand new, studio version of Pantera's "Walk," which you can stream from their MySpace page. The track is also available in this weeks Kerrang! magazine.
Avenged Sevenfold will be playing a number of European festivals and tour dates with Metallica and Guns N Roses before returning to the United States to play the main stage of Ozzfest beginning June 29 in Seattle, Washington.
According to an article on MTV.com, Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven, the snarling frontman for Norwegian black-metallers Satyricon, says his band's forthcoming LP, Now, Diabolical, constitutes perhaps the darkest material he's ever had a hand in writing. But he doesn't say you've got to be a black-metal disciple to relish the record.
"These songs are very direct," he explained. "Instead of 12 or 13 themes per song, there are just a handful of themes that carry each song, because I wanted the album to have an extremely solid framework — something that was undeniable and unquestionable, something that was very insisting and full of authority. A way of achieving that is to concentrate on purifying the power of a few themes, as opposed to never letting one theme establish itself.
"I think too many metal bands sound like they play music for other musicians, that the song has no higher purpose or that they don't look for a special atmosphere or anything like that," he continued. "They just play and say, 'Look at me, I can shred.' It's very typical and it's really sad."
Still, Satyr said he has no idea what sort of response Now, Diabolical's going to receive when it lands in U.S. record stores on June 13. Satyricon's previous outing, Volcano, has sold a mere 15,000 copies since its release back in 2003. Six weeks ago, Now, Diabolical was released in Europe and is one of the fastest-selling records in their homeland.
But Europe isn't America, and according to Satyr, "Americans have a different understanding of extreme-metal music.
"It's kind of weird," he continued, "because death metal is a part of what I call extreme-metal music, and death metal has more to do with America than Europe, that's for sure. It seems like there is a lot of confusion as to who's, where it concerns black metal and death metal. Europeans pinpointed a long time ago who's black metal and what bands are important. The American kids don't seem to have the slightest clue about that, so you find yourself in a situation where a band that is not popular in Europe at all ... can do really well in America, while other bands that have very solid standings in Europe are not doing very well in America. It's hard to predict.
"If I was to go by the reception and the overall status of a band like Satyricon in Europe, I would say that [the record] is going to do extremely well in America. But given what I just explained, you never know."

LAMENT, the New Jersey thrash metal band featuring ex-BLOOD FEAST member Kevin Kuzma, disbanded earlier this year after parting ways with female vocalist Linda Alexander. The remaining members (Kevin Kuzma - drums; John Blicharz - guitar; Karl Odenwalder - bass) have recruited vocalist Tony Stanziano, and the band's sound shifted towards a blackened death metal sound while maintaining the thrash metal influence.
Along with the lineup change and the new direction, the band has officially changed its name to ANNUNAKI. "The new no-boundries, heavier, and more brutal/technical sound gave the band a new identity," says the band. "With so much contrast between then and now, a name change was necessary." ANNUNAKI are currently in the writing stages and will be recording their debut album, "Throne of the Annunaki", at Trax East Studios this September. The album is due out on Militia Records this October.

Originally released in 1989 on Metal Blade Records, this fully licensed CD release will be fully remastered, and contain rare and never-before-heard bonus tracks.
Founded in the spring of 1986 in Los Angeles, VIKING released two full length albums on the Metal Blade label, with "Man of Straw" being the second and final release after disbanding in 1990. The band's guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy is co-producing the disc with AudioHammer owner and previous collaborator Jason Suecof. "There's one acoustic song, a SKID ROW/MÖTLEY CRÜE-sounding song, a DEF LEPPARD, Southern-rock metal song and then 11 ridiculously technical thrash songs," Heafy had previously said. "It's a solo insanity CD, but in a good way."
You can check out a new STRAPPING YOUNG LAD song here. The track comes off their upcoming new album, The New Black, which will be released on July 11th through Century Media.

Vincent McAllister, the guitarist and a founding member of seminal American Doom Metal band PENTAGRAM, has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 51.
McAllister played guitar in the classic '70s PENTAGRAM lineup that also included vocalist Bobby Liebling, bassist Greg Mayne and drummer Geof O'Keefe. His recorded works can be heard throughout the various PENTAGRAM collections.
McAllister was highly respected as a guitarist and person amongst his peers. McAllister had spent the past few years working on material in his home studio and planning to return to playing again with former PENTAGRAM members O'Keefe and Mayne.
Twelve Tribes have begun recording their next album with producer Andreas Magnusson (Scarlet, Bury Your Dead) in Richmond, VA. The album's name will be announced shortly, and the effort will hit stores this fall through Ferret Music.
Abacus Recordings has announced the signing of Purified In Blood and will be releasing their new album, Reaper Of Souls, in the U.S. on June 27th. Hailed by many as the most exciting act to emerge from Norway since Turbonegro, Purified In Blood combines blazing riffs and solos with controversially political lyrics. One might say that the band's innovative concept of "metal with a message" is something akin to Emperor meets Earth Crisis.
Boasting six members with a dual lead vocalist and twin guitar attack, Purified In Blood has become known for its high energy live performances. In fact, the band won Norway's national underground music contest for unsigned bands (ZOOM) in 2004, and more recently, the award for "Best Live Act" at Norway's prestigious Alarm Awards 2006.
The band has already completed two U.S. tours in support of the 2003 EP, Last Leaves of a Poisoned Tree, on New Eden Records, and regularly tour Scandinavia and Europe.

German death metallers FALL OF SERENITY have issued the following statement explaining their decision to drop off the European tour with HATE ETERNAL, SPAWN OF POSSESSION and SHADOWSLAND:
"So we are not on tour with the cool people of HATE ETERNAL, SPAWN OF POSSESSION and SHADOWSLAND anymore. We were forced to do this decision together with our label and our management, because there went a lot of things just badly wrong. To put it together, the organisation and management of this tour messed up our intended goal to do promotion for our new album 'Bloodred Salvation'. It was almost impossible. So it is a decision that is better for our band. We know that Metallysee [booking agency] is a good partner concerning tours, but in this case something doesn't fit together in the right way. Maybe because some other booking agency set up this tour.
"We feel very sorry to disappoint you guys who wanted to see FALL OF SERENITY on this tour. Take the next chance please. To make it clear, there is nothing wrong with our band.
"If you wanna see the other bands on this tour, PLEASE make sure that you travel to the right place, venue or even the right city. Get as much information as you can get about the show you want to visit. Otherwise it's possible that you will stand in front of closed doors.
"We wanna thank the guys of HATE ETERNAL, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, SHADOWSLAND, Ritchie (sound engineer), Math (busdriver), the people who came to the shows and the local promoters who did their best for sure. Unfortunately, we can't thank other people involved."
"Bloodred Salvation", which includes a guest appearances by Leif Jensen of DEW-SCENTED, was recorded and produced at the Rape Of Harmonies Studios by Ralf Müller and Patrick W. Engel (HEAVEN SHALL BURN, NARZISS, etc.) and mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen at his Hansen Studios (MERCENARY, RAUNCHY, COMMUNIC, etc.). "Bloodred Salvation"'s artwork was created by Killustrations (DEW-SCENTED, CARNAL FORGE, AMON AMARTH).
The Canadian portion of Necrophagist's current tour has been cancelled. The band's passports were recently stolen, rendering them unable to cross the border. The following shows, with support from Arsis, Alarum, Ion Dissonance, Animosity, and Job For A Cowboy have been cancelled:
06/06 Ottawa, ON Canada @ Mavericks
06/07 Quebec City, QC Canada @ L'Anti
06/08 Tornoto, ON Canada @ The Marquee
06/09 Hamilton, ON Canada @ The Underground
06/10 St-Haycinthe, QC Canada @ Salle Le Louvre
The missed shows will likely be rescheduled for the end of July.

It's going to be brutal."
