Northern California's Apiary have changed their name to EARLY GRAVES and will be releasing a brand new album titled "We: The Guillotine" via Ironclad Recordings on August 19th, 2008. Two new tracks off the band's upcoming release have been posted to the band's new MySpace page.
Here's what guitarist and founding member Chris Brock had to say about the name change:
"We changed the name from Apiary to Early Graves for a pretty simple reason. The songs we had created on the road under the former name had nothing to do with the original Apiary and we needed a new name that was a better fit, and more relevant to who we are. We wanted a name that meant burning your wick at both ends. It also didn't hurt that there was no original members left and we didn't want to be that band." More...
Norwegian metallers, Breed, issue the following update regarding the departure of their singer Maurice Adams:
"After much consideration Breed have decided to part ways with singer Maurice Adams. There is no secret that the band have struggled this past year and things have more or less been status quo, due to loss of drummers and difficulties within the band."
"The most difficult part to handle is the constant disagreements and differences in views on how things should be done." More...
Billbaord.com reports: Nine purported "mastered, finished" tracks from Guns N' Roses' 14-years-in-the-making album "Chinese Democracy" were leaked online yesterday, June 18, by the Web site Antiquiet.com, prompting a quick cease-and-desist from the band's handlers and the removal of the links.
Six of the songs have already leaked in one unfinished form or another, including "Better," "The Blues," the title track, "Madagascar," "IRS," and "There Was a Time." These newer versions appear to be much further along on the path toward completion, and feature new touches like organ and tambourine on "IRS" and a beefed-up chorus with multi-tracked vocals on "Madagascar."
The three previously unheard songs are "Rhiad and the Bedouins," "If the World" and a track whose title is unknown.

Swedish death-growling classic power metal band Brimstone will have their debut album, "Carving a Crimson Career" (1998), reissued by Metal Mind Productions. Brimstone came up with a thrilling combination of classic metal in the likes of Hammerfall and brutal death metal growls instead of the regular high-pitched vocals. This alone made "Carving a Crimson Career" a truly unique release, showing that not all have been said when it comes to classic metal.
This exclusive reissue in a new digipak edition will be available on July 7, 2008 in Europe and September 2, 2008 in USA (via MVD). The album is digitally remastered using a 24-Bit process on golden disc, limited to 2000 numerated copies.
Here is Brimstone's "Carving A Crimson Career" (remastered) tracklisting:
1. Breaking The Waves
2. Pagan Sons
4. Carving A Crimson Career
5. King of My Kind
6. Tunes of Thunder
7. Heavy Metal Kid
8. Welcome To The Night

Having recenlty changed their name from Dahlgren Prophecy, the Frederick, Maryland band Dismal Tide has decided to call it quits. Here's a statement from the band:
"It is with a heavy heart that we offer the following news. After over two and a half years, Dismal Tide, or as many of you have known us Dahlgren Prophecy, has decided to call it quits. There is no ill will or animosity amongst us, we have just decided that it is time for everybody to move on. The conflicting schedules of everybody in the band have proven it difficult for us to dedicate the time and effort to this project that we feel it would truly deserve to accomplish what we originally set out to do. We will always look upon the past few years with fond memories, we've managed to play some amazing shows, meet some incredible bands, been lucky enough to have some of the best fans a band could hope for, and even managed to sneak a few free beers out of the deal. We'd like to thank all of you who have shown your support to us over the years, and we'll miss working with the people we've managed to work with in this project. Most of all, we'd like to send our love and respect to all the band members that we have worked with in the past, including Chris "Bingo" Wilson, Charles "Chuck" Johnson, and Tommy Mott.
"Look for new projects from all of us in the near future, you can currently catch Cliff Rehder in Solar Powered Sun Destroyer and look forward to hearing new material from Buddy Buel's old band Horror of Horrors. We leave you all with these words, fuck old women, kill your family, eat the dog, start suicide cults, engage in angry sex on a regular basis, huff the fumes from your piss and shit to get high, and take to heart all the other life's lessons that we have tried to instill in you through our music."
Norwegian black metal legends SATYRICON have checked in with the following update:
"We've now completed the drums and the guitars for the new Satyricon album in Los Angeles! We have a new session beginning Monday, doing vocals, bass and and perhaps some brass too. Third week of July we're doing some keyboard/FX stuff before we go back to LA o mix the record. These are exciting times as we feel this is a milestone in the making. It won't help keeping expectations down, but we can't help it, it feels so incredibly strong! Dates are being confirmed and offers are coming in constantly as we speak and it looks like we will start touring the world mid November. We'll post a video from the recording of the drums over the weekend and in the meantime we might see some of you at Nummirock and Hellfest. Take care."

"HEAVY METAL SHRED MAYHEM! NOW WITH 50% MORE GUITAR SOLOS!! If the new Unearth songs were laundry detergent then this is what it would say on the box," according to Buz. "Fortunately for all you metal maniacs, it's not laundry soap but a mind-blowing journey consisting of epic mosh and shred, so we had to call in the one man who could wrangle such a massive beast - Adam Dutkiewicz. We are very excited to be working with him again and between 40 oz. chugging and doing burn-outs in Ken's '82 Corvette, we are recording what will definitely be the best album of our career."

The Gigan "musical experience" consists not only of agressive-intelligent speed, cosmic soundscapes and abstract technicality, but also a visual feast as well. Magick influenced psychedelia is undoubtably a lyrical focus in addition to songs inspired by misanthropy and the supernatural. Gigan is a band that will always be dedicated to imagination and creative expression...The evolution of Gigan will certainly be a legend in the making.....and now that a multi-album, worldwide deal has been signed with Napalm Records, anything is possible...

Blabbermouth.net reports via The Pulse of Radio that NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor is working on a cable TV series based on his 2007 concept album, "Year Zero", according to a lengthy profile of Reznor in the Sunday edition of the New York Times. The article does not go into much detail about the project, except to say that Reznor is working on it with producer Lawrence Bender, who is Quentin Tarantino's partner and also produced the Oscar-winning Al Gore documentary "An Inconvenient Truth".
"Year Zero" takes place approximately 15 years in the future, with the U.S. a religious dictatorship and the world on the brink of environmental and social collapse. Reznor has indicated that he'd be interested in a film version of the story, and has also hinted at a recorded sequel at some point.
The rest of the Times interview, which took place at Reznor's home "on the outskirts of Beverly Hills," touches on his abandonment of the major label system, his recent online album releases, and his own struggle to reinvent himself in the age of music downloading.
At one point Reznor explains, "I don't agree that (music) should be free, but it is free, and you can either accept it or you can put your head in the sand." He also says he doesn't want to participate in the way music is marketed these days, adding, "I don't really want to be on the side of a bus or in a BlackBerry ad hawking some product that sucks just so I can get my record out."
Reznor hinted in the Times article that more free music, and possibly new software applications, will be coming soon.
NINE INCH NAILS will begin a North American trek on July 25 at British Columbia's Pemberton Festival.
