WINDS guitarist Carl August Tidemann recently posted a message on the the band's forum stating that he has now completed the solo-guitar recordings for the upcoming album. The rhythm guitars were already completed last year and the recent completion of the solos now concludes all the guitar recordings for the fourth WINDS album.
WINDS — comprised of singer Lars Eric Si (KHOLD), guitarist Carl August Tidemann (ARCTURUS), keyboardist Andy Winter (AGE OF SILENCE) and Jan Axel Von Blomberg (ARCTURUS, MAYHEM) — have also confirmed recent suspicions of a guest performance by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, NIGHTINGALE).
As explained by Andy Winter: "Dan recorded his parts at his own studio in Sweden. We sent him the tracks we wanted him to sing on, along with a few words of what we were looking for. He then came back with some, according to him 'suggestions,' but they were great performances that we intend to keep, and they will surely add to this record in a very positive way." More...

As news of the return of Gigantour becomes imminent, last year's fast and furious inaugural festival tour arrives in stores on deluxe 2-CD and 2-DVD sets August 22 and September 5, respectively, via Image Entertainment. Both configurations capture 2005's heavy metal onslaught that was hailed as the best metal bill of the year, with Revolver magazine calling it "the mother of all shred fests." Organized by MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine as a tour featuring "only bands whose musicianship matches their ability to melt faces with sheer volume and power" (Miami Herald), "Gigantour" features unforgettable performances by MEGADETH, DREAM THEATER and FEAR FACTORY as well as ANTHRAX (CD only), NEVERMORE, LIFE OF AGONY, SYMPHONY X, DRY KILL LOGIC and BOBAFLEX.
The "Gigantour" DVD set encompasses a special bonus disc with all the no-holds-barred offstage action: tour bus visits, backstage drama, practical jokes plus interviews with the people who make a national package tour happen, like tour managers, pyrotechnics experts and band members. The "Gigantour" CD contains three songs not included on the DVD. More...
Danish metallers MNEMIC have begun recording their as-yet-untitled third album for Nuclear Blast Records in Los Angeles, California. Production is being handled by Christian Olde Wolbers (FEAR FACTORY, THREAT SIGNAL) and Warren Riker (DOWN, CATHEDRAL, THE FUGEES) at Track Record Studios (KISS, MEGADETH, AEROSMITH) in North Hollywood.
Commented the band: "Finally after two weeks of rehearsals and pre-production we've started tracking the drums with Warren Riker and Christian Olde Wolbers in North Hollywood. We've been really busy working on 13 brand new songs that kick ass, and along with new singer Guillaume Bideau (ex-SCARVE) this marks a new era for the band. Things are sounding great and we are just getting started!"
The current sessions mark the first time that MNEMIC have recorded in America and represent the second production project of Olde Wolbers for Nuclear Blast, as he recently turned the knobs for THREAT SIGNAL's debut "Under Reprisal" (due out August 22 in North America). He commented recently, "I'm honored to get the opportunity to work with MNEMIC, and I am actually a fan of the band."
The follow-up to 2004's "The Audio Injected Soul", MNEMIC's new album is due out in early 2007.

All corners of the nation will find themselves compelled to witness the massacre of the Machines At War and engage in the armed conflict of metal!
Says FEAR FACTORY drummer Raymond Herrera, "I'm really excited about doing a heavy tour like this. A brutal line-up full of metal pioneers has been a long time coming. MEGADETH's as-yet-untitled new album will be released on Halloween - October 31st. Leader Dave Mustaine is currently working with co-producer Jeff Balding, who helmed 2004's The System Has Failed. The band, completed by guitarist Glen Drover, drummer Shawn Drover and bassist James Lomenzo recently returned from SARM Recording Studios just outside of London, England and are expected to resume recording this month in Los Angeles, CA. As previously reported, Mustaine told BW&BK recently that the record consists of twelve songs - "11 for an American release and 12 for Japan." As for song titles or album, Mustaine remarked, "You know me, these song titles change everyday! And I won't know the record title until I've committed to the damn artwork."

POWER QUEST have uploaded unseen footage of their tour with THRESHOLD, featuring all the tour bus antics along with a rockumentry video of the making of their Neverworld album (2003) featuring Sam Totman from DRAGONFORCE on guest guitars.
As previously reported, the band earlier this year stated: "Writing is well underway for the fourth Power Quest album and the material is sounding awesome. No time scale to announce as yet regarding recording."
Epic Records has announced a September 5 release date for "Revelations", the highly anticipated new album from multi-platinum rock band AUDIOSLAVE.
In a recent interview with RollingStone.com, guitarist Tom Morello described the record as "LED ZEPPELIN meets EARTH, WIND AND FIRE," adding that it's a big hard rock record with a funky bottom." Among the album's many highlights is the groove-driven lead single "Original Fire", and "Wide Awake", about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. "It's probably AUDIOSLAVE's most political song to date," says Morello.
The Grammy-nominated quartet (vocalist Chris Cornell, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk) recorded "Revelations" at Henson Studios in Los Angeles with acclaimed producer Brendan O'Brien. O'Brien, whose myriad credits include PEARL JAM and BRUCE SPINGSTEEN, mixed AUDIOSLAVE's "Out of Exile" record and the "Live in Cuba" CD and DVD. His history with the band goes back even farther, as he produced RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE albums "Evil Empire" (1996), "The Battle of Los Angeles" (1999) and "Renegades" (2000) and mixed SOUNDGARDEN's "Superunknown" (1994).
"Revelations" follows 2005's "Out of Exile", which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top 200 and featured the Grammy-nominated single "Doesn't Remind Me".

MOONSPELL Frontman Comments On 'Nocturnal Mourning' Tour
Portugal's #1 heavy metal export MOONSPELL are preparing to embark on their first headlining tour in five years. Vocalist Fernando Ribeiro fondly recalls, "Last time we headlined was late 2001, after the release of 'Darkness and Hope'. The support band was LACUNA COIL on their very first American experience. We can't wait to get back to play our own show and to underline the great ties we built in all of our tours there with our small but very dedicated fan basis. 'Memorial' is intense live and we want our American shows to follow up what we have been doing in Europe so far."
This is the first American tour for MOONSPELL in support of "Memorial", the band's latest release. This time around fans can expect "better and bigger production. We are finally bringing our light team with us. We will have the full strength of 'Memorial', the theatrics... the passion... it will all be there" enthuses Ribeiro.
Supporting MOONSPELL on the appropriately labeled "Nocturnal Mourning" tour are KATATONIA and DAYLIGHT DIES. Ribeiro raves, "I love KATATONIA and I think they are the most brilliant band around. 'Dance of December Souls' is still my album for the rainy days. DAYLIGHT DIES caught my attention with an advance single and since then I purchased 'No Reply' and 'Dismantling Devotion' to get really deeply into this band that, with a life of their own, brings me back to the glorious days of death doom, a style so close to my heart and soul. I believe it is a great, great package with original, individual bands that do it for the passion and for the music. The moonfest for all undergrounders!!! The Euro fans are very jealous!"
The "Nocturnal Mourning" tour is scheduled to kick off October 20 at The Loft in Poughkeepsie, New York. Dates and venues are subject to change.

Deathquake Records will release the debut album from U.S. death metal trio WARFACE, entitled Insanity Of The Obsessed, on August 15th.
Hailing from San Diego, CA the trio is comprised of Laura Christine (lead guitar), Dave Smith (vocals, bass) and Scott Ellis (drums). Insanity Of The Obsessed is the follow up to the band's self-titled EP Warface, which was released in 2001.
After signing their new deal with Deathquake Records, the band was sent straight to the studio to work with world-class engineer/producer Alan Sanderson (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SLAYER, ROLLING STONES, JOHNNY CASH).
Insanity Of The Obsessed blends complex yet catchy moody-melodies with low brow pounding grooves that hook. This style of writing makes the songs memorable and sticks in the listener’s head and soul.
One other unique dynamic of this extreme metal band is their female lead guitarist Laura Christine. The extreme metal genre has yet to see a female out front handling all rhythm and lead guitar duties single handedly as well as writing and producing.
Warface is not trying to reinvent metal, but simply carry on the tradition of bringing quality metal music to the masses. Insanity Of The Obsessed was written and performed to honor the great legends before them.
For more on the band visit their website at www.warface.net.
After more than ten years on the scene, German black metallers NOCTE OBDUCTA have split up. Statements from the band and label (translated from German) follow:
Guitarist/keyboardist Marcel Va. Traumschäuder: "In consideration of the back breaking circumstances which have pressed the band during the last two years and which have led me to a maximum of exhaustion, at the beginning of May we decided to put the band Nocte Obducta on ice. There are many reasons to go on for years but when negative aspects prevail, it is time to close this chapter and make room for something new. As the progressing musical change is mostly receiving sparse approval from the audience like we experienced with some passages of live performed, yet unreleased titles, maybe an end of the project Nocte Obducta is obtaining the acceptance of those who want us to play (avantgarde) black metal only. The final album Sequenzen Einer Wanderung (release winter 2006/07), a really well thought-out concept album, which will be recorded this summer in the Maranis Studios, consists of the maybe the most varied material so far and will deal with the whole field of leaving, changes and restart. Simply because somehow everything will continue without the name Nocte Obducta and without the limiting genre "metal". Our performance at the Metallic Noise Festival 2006 right within the studio time will happen anyway and we are thinking about the idea of one single farewell concert with some friendly bands in winter, more about this topic later... We would like to thank all the loyal fans which have accompanied us over years - maybe even since the first demo - and which stick to us and of course we would like to thank to several small net zines where everyone who is able to spell the word "keyboard" is starting to write something weird about Nocte Obducta, be it fact based reviews, journalistic straight researched articles, unbelievable subtly interpreted interviews or disarmingly intelligent forum entries - we have more than once laugh heartily about such a huge humor and self-mockery. We keep yo up to date..." More...
Dutch death metallers SINISTER will be filming their August 24, 2006 performance in Krakow, Poland for a live DVD, to be released at a later date via Metal Mind Production. Also appearing on the bill will be OBITUARY.
Portland's AGALLOCH have been confirmed as openers for the Portland, OR date of the MOONSPELL/KATATONIA/DAYLIGHT DIES tour on November 3 at Rock N' Roll Pizza.
AGALLOCH's much-anticipated new album, "Ashes against the Grain", is due out August 8 on The End Records. The band recently filmed a video for the song "Not Unlike The Waves" with director Nicole Phillips and cinematographers Richard Stark and Juan Mosqueda. It is currently in the editing process. Over nine hours of footage was shot in three days and the results are quite stunning thus far. To film aficionados, the style of the video will call to mind the work of Ingmar Bergman, Mario Bava, and the German Expressionist movement.
Swedish black/death metallers THE LEGION, featuring current MARDUK drummer Emil Dragutinovic, have announced the addition of bassist Kristoffer Andersson from SARGATANAS REIGN as a permanent member. "We're very pleased to have him in the band and we're looking forward to see his contribution in your music," the band write in a statement. "At the moment we're working on material for our third opus. We're constantly developing our music and exploring new paths. A handful of songs are completed and so far it looks like this new album will differ itself a bit from our previous works."
THE LEGION released their sophomore album, "Revocation", in February via Listenable Records. The artwork was once again designed by Kris Verwimp (MARDUK, ABSU, IMMORTAL), who had previously worked with the group on their debut album, "Unseen to Creation".
IRON MAIDEN plan to release their new studio album, entitled "A Matter of Life and Death", in early September.
The band started writing songs at the end of 2005 after a short break from their hugely successful festival appearances in Europe and the USA. After Christmas, the songs were completed and rehearsed when the band then got together with producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley at Sarm West Studios in London to start work on recording the backing tracks.
Kevin Shirley has now co-produced three of the band's studio albums alongside Steve Harris, as well as two of their recent live DVDs and albums. From this the working relationship between Kevin and the band seems to get stronger and stronger. Says Kevin, "The beast is back! I feel from the outset we all clicked on this one. we spent two months in the studio, from go to whoa — from Nicko's 'tubs up' to final mixes and sequenced master! That's a tiny gestation period for an album. Producing IRON MAIDEN is like sitting in the head and driving one of those mammoth automatons from 'Star Wars' or Saturday morning cartoons! And there's nothing that can stop it!
"I feel incredibly privileged to have been around to see this album born and breathe life. There have been only a couple of occasions in my career when the ENTIRE process of recording felt so complete — and it is on display here."
As on previous projects all of the tracks were performed live and together in one room. No click tracks or computer tightening or manipulation has happened at any stage of the recording. More...
GRAVE DIGGER guitarist Manni Schmidt has posted the following update at his official website:
"Is it really one month that has passed since the last news? Man, where’s he time going??? Many things have happened in the past weeks: first, I had the gig with HALBER LITER, where I was invited to play three songs of DIE TOTEN HOSEN ('Hier Kommt Alex', 'Wünsch Dir Was' and 'Bommerlunder') alongside Wölli. As expected it all went great and the crowd was standing upside down, not only on our part! The whole concert of Halber Liter, including some well known guests, has been recorded for a live CD so everybody rocked as hard as they could!
Well, the recordings with PHOENIX RISING also have been finished by now. First, Harry rocked his parts without any problems. As the songs were certain for some time he could fully concentrate on playing his guitar. In the following Ralf sang the songs and could mark some highlights here and there by including some harmonic and effect vocals. And then the whole thing was grafted by the Mönchengladbacher Männerchor. In the end everything was checked and judged to be strongly suspicious of becoming a hit so that next week with recovered ears the mixing can begin. I will do that with my friend Freeman in the Dülmener ToneZone Studio.
In-between I also had some song writing sessions with Grave Digger that were very effective. The songs for the album and for the single which will be recorded in the Sendener Principal Studios on 19th June are stipulated. Now there’s only some fine tuning to be done and then we can start rocking in the studio! More...

ANNIHILATOR will take a short break from recording their follow-up to 2005's Schizo Deluxe CD to play both Metalway Festivals in Spain on July 28th and 29th. Following news that drummer Mike Mangini will be playing on the new album fans at the band's official website have been asking who will be part of the band line-up for the gigs. Guitarist/founder Jeff Waters has issued the following update:
"Russ Bergquist is with us on bass, Mr. (Dave) Padden on vocals and guitar, drummer Ryan Ahoff (from Winnipeg, Canada) and some guy named Jeff Waters on guitar. It is one hell of a line-up."
Waters recently issued the following studio update:
"Dave Padden and I have been locked up in the studio for two weeks now working on guitars and vocals for the new one. He is going to be the first Annihilator guitarist to play rhythm guitar on an Annihilator CD, as well as sing. I guess that makes us a 4-piece band live then! I'm also going to sing some of the tracks I sang on previous records, like King Of The Kill, Refresh The Demon and others. METAL RULES!!!"
