Cruachan Sign With Black Lotus Records

Irish folk metal band CRUACHAN have inked a deal with Greece's Black Lotus Records. Founded in 1992 by Keith Fay after the end of MINAS TIRITH which existed since 1989, CRUACHAN mixes Celtic folk music, history and mythology with extreme metal. CRUACHAN's first release in 1995 ("Tuatha na Gael") was influenced heavily by black metal, they have never lost their black metal edge or roots but today they incorporate all types of extreme metal into their sound. Recent work has defined CRUACHAN's unique sound and style, mixing metal, folk and even classical music.

CRUACHAN are currently working on songs for their as-yet-untitled new album, to be recorded in January 2006. Martin Walkyier (ex-SKYCLAD) will also join them as guest vocalist on one song. New songtitles include "Diarmuid and Grainne", "The Well Below the Valley", "Ungoliant" and "Shelob".

CRUACHAN recently parted ways with Karmageddon Media. The group's final release for the label will be a reissue of their 1994 "Celtica" demo, featuring unreleased tracks, including "Timmy", which has been performed live at quite a few CRUACHAN shows. CRUACHAN will embark on the European "Pagan Invasion Tour 2005" beginning in mid-September.

CRUACHAN are continuing to tour in support of their fourth full-length album, "Pagan", which was released through Karmageddon Media. "Pagan" was recorded and mixed at Radio Na Life Studios in Dublin, Ireland with producer Al Cowen and is the follow-up to 2002's "Folk-Lore". The cover artwork for "Pagan" was created by John Howe, the leading JRR Tolkien illustrator and the conceptual artist from the "Lord of the Rings" movies.

Winds, Age of Silence Keyboardist Updates on Bands

Age of Silence/Winds keyboardist Andy Winter has commented on his band's plans:

"Greetings everyone! As we are getting closer to the half way mark of the year, I guess this is as good a time as any to write an update about what's been going on lately, and more importantly what's to come. On May 3rd I released a mini CD containing a solo performance with classical piano music. This release is my first solo release and it is called Shades of Light Through Black and White. It is available exclusively through The End Records, and the cover art is graced with some unique black and white photographs. The disc is a 1000 copy limited edition release.

As reported some time ago Winds has already completed the basic material for the fourth album, and the drums were recorded last year. At this time we are making the preparations to continue the recordings, meaning that Carl August Tidemann will find himself in and out of the studio for several months starting after his summer vacation. I have also completed the lyrical concept, and earlier this week I talked to the guys about the musical direction of the next record. There is still a lot to be determined about the sound and the details, and we are still in the midst of discussing all of this, but already the entire band agrees that what we are on the right track for something new, and that what we are about to embark on will pretty much blow everything we have done so far out of the water. Maybe that is an overused cliche that every band nowadays uses when they put out a new record, but I believe we have the merits to back up our claim, and in this case there is no doubt that this will be the most different record we have ever done. I can also say that this record won't see the light! of day until some time in 2006, so that we will have spent over 2 years making it from the recordings started until they finish should be an indication of how much effort we are putting into it. I know I previously stated that we would not take two years to make the next album, but what can I say, I will have to admit I was wrong and correct myself in this matter. I may also have to correct my previous statement about not involving any guests on the new record, but that part still remains to be seen, and I guess only time will tell. More...

Celtic Frost Frontman Slams Metal Hammer Magazine

CELTIC FROST frontman Tom Gabriel Fischer has posted the following message on his official blog:

"So, Metal Hammer, one of Germany's most important magazines for heavy music, published a prominent news item on CELTIC FROST in their most recent issue. No, we have not yet distributed an official press release, nor has anyone from Metal Hammer bothered to contact either one of the band members or CELTIC FROST's management. Instead, they read this blog. Come to think of it, 'read' might not be the appropriate term to use here. For to read something, you need to be able to actually understand the language it is written in. Unless, of course, you are content with not understanding even one single line, and, yet, still have a big mouth and announce to the world what you haven't understood. Empty pages need to filled, after all.
