The following statement from GWAR's publicist has been released, issuing an update on the upcoming GWAR-B-Q:
"Slave Pit Inc. is proud to announce that we finally have figured out what the hell is up with this year's GWAR-B-Q. The 2nd Annual GWAR-B-Q will ACTUALLY be on Sep. 17th, 2011, not Aug. 27th as previously advertised. It will be held at Hadad's Water Park in lovely Richmond, VA. The standard ticket price will be 20 bucks, with all kinds of cool extras and discounts. That includes all of the events and especially the bands! And that is this year's biggest news-because this year, for the very first time, GWAR is playing their own GWAR-B-Q! And the OFFICIAL spelling of the event is 'GWAR-B-Q,' even though the flyer up top says different!
'O.K., let's review and embellish...
"The 2011 GWAR-B-Q is ON for Sep. 17th. I know a lot of you are going 'huh? I already took off work at Taco-Bell!' After thinking we were going to do it Aug. 27th, WE FUCKING CHANGED OUR MINDS!
"What bands are playing? First and foremost, GWAR is playing! But almost as cool as that (and for some people a lot more so) is the big reunion of Richmond's own KEPONE for one very special show. Kepone features Mike Bishop on bass and vocals, and any GWAR fan worth his/her ass gas will recognize that name as the guy behind the original Beefcake the Mighty. In fact every member of Kepone (Ed Trask on drums, Tim Harriss on guitar) played in GWAR at one time or another. Kepone made some great albums for Touch and Go and toured internationally before breaking into a slew of other projects in 2003. We are totally stoked that they are bringing it back for the GWAR-B-Q. Irish thrashers Gama Bomb are currently writing new material for their as-yet-untitled new album. The follow-up to 2009's "Tales From The Grave in Space" (reviewed here) will be Gama Bomb's fourth album and is tentatively due to be released early next year.
Frontman Philly Byrne comments:
"We're about to enter a studio in central Dublin to work on demos for our new album, which we're hoping to release in early 2012. In terms of songwriting, we're writing much 'tougher' or meaner songs now. We want to make music that street gangs could listen to before a fight, songs you can sharpen a switchblade to. I've been looking a lot to Phil Lynott for inspiration, which can never be a bad thing. He's always been a big inspiration for us, even if you can't always hear it.
"Mind you, we're also about everything from our history of underage drinking and theoretical physics to drag racing and (of course) cannibalism, so there's no knowing where this one is going to take us. We're hopefully going to record here in Ireland and we'll pull no punches on either the speed of the riffs or the attitude of the songwriting. That's the only plan right now."
Gama Bomb is also gearing up for a string of summer festival dates, but have had to bring in a temporary stand-in for lead guitarist Domo Dixon for the live shows due to a hand injury. The band have released the following statement: More...

Scheduled for a June 28th, 2011 release via FrostByte Records with North American distribution by eOne Entertainment, "Call Upon The Wicked" was recorded at Lickman Studios by founding guitarist Jack Frost with co-producers LePond and Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning), who also mixed the record.
Commented Frost of the track: “This tune just rips. ‘Lilith’ has so many elements of yesterday and today. We wanted a heavy yet melodic vibe with awesome melody. Hope you all like this one. We worked really hard on it.”

Nemesea has checked in with the following update about "The Quiet Resistance," the band's upcoming album:
"On Sunday June 5 we played our first gig with five brand new TQR songs on the setlist. It was great playing those songs live for the first time and the audience responded very enthusiastic. It was also our first gig with Frank. We're not going to reveal the whole track list of the new album yet, but here is our setlist of the show with 5 new titles on it. (Yes people…Caught in the middle made the album!)
"Our next show will be on July first in the Effenaar, Eindhoven together with Stream of Passion. We hope to see you all! More news next week! Stay tuned!"
A rush of cool air relieved my over-taxed pores when I entered Jackalopes. I walked past a girl wearing a Danzig shirt posing for a picture on top of a statue of a giant jackrabbit with horns—the fabled Jackalope. I not only sought shelter from the one-hundred-three-degree inferno that blazed outside, it helped me kill time before Emo’s opened its door a hour-and-a-half later.
While devouring one of the juiciest burgers in town, I noticed other metal heads wearing various death metal shirts entering the establishment. Located just a couple of blocks from the venue, the metal-friendly bar and grill catered to those awaiting the coming death metal onslaught.
In route to the bar, I noticed one of the more conspicuous fans on the other side of the street. Wearing corpse paint that may have been patterned from an old Satyricon or Gorgoroth photo, this fan’s black attire seemed in defiance of the sun’s powerful rays. I guess nobody told this guy he was going to a death metal show. Also, the heat surely streaked his makeup, most likely stinging his eyes. What he lacked in brains he made up for in dedication, though (even though this was a death metal show).
Three or four people stood near the touring vans outside the venue when I walked past Emo’s at around 6:30. The line grew to the front of the next venue when I returned at 7:30. Soon, the line grew to the end of the block—a good sign for the five bands due on stage. The venue opened close to its scheduled time of 8 PM. More...
This year's edition of the Heavy Metal Maniacs festival will take place on October 22nd, 2011 in Manifesto - Hoorn, The Netherlands. The organizers of the festival have issued the following announcement about Finale Heiress canceling the band's previously announced appearance:
"Unfortunately Final Heiress is unable to play at this years Heavy Metal Maniacs festival. The singer is struck by a sudden illness and there can't make it to the stage, we wish him and his family lots of strength for the oncoming period, and we hope to see the band in full health on stage next year!"
Pegazus has been announced as the replacement for Final Heiress. You can check out the Pegazus track "Death or Glory" in the player below, which is taken from the "In Metal We Trust" album.
Exhumed has posted the track "I Rot Within," from "All Guts, No Glory," online now at Blood-Disgusting.com along with an exclusive blog entry about the album's zombie-fied artwork and photo shoot. The track can be heard at this location.
The band has also previously posted the song "Necrotized" online. "All Guts, No Glory" is the follow-up to 2003's "Anatomy Is Destiny" and will see its North American release on July 5th on a variety of formats including CD, deluxe digital , a limited edition 2-disc set that includes a second disc of exclusive bonus tracks, single LP vinyl, and limited edition buzzsaw shaped vinyl.
Exhumed recorded "All Guts, No Glory" at Arcane Digital Recordings in Arizona with engineer Ryan Butler (Misery Index) and at Trench Studios with John Haddad (Abysmal Dawn, Intronaut). The album was mixed and mastered at Mana Recording Studios by Brian Elliott .
New Jersey's Dark Empire has checked in with the following update about the new album "From Refuge to Ruin:"
"The album is just about finished being recorded. I only have some lead guitar work and my death vocals left to track (more on that later). I'm not ready to reveal a track list or anything yet, but there are 9 songs (two of which are either approaching or beyond the 10-minute mark) as well as one bonus track, which will be a cover. The drums were performed by a session drummer named Matt Graff, who did an absolutely amazing job (note: Matt is *not* a permanent member).
"The new vocalist is a great fit for the band, and I'm really excited about the performances he gave. The reason I am not naming who it is (I will say, however, that he is not a 'known' singer), or giving any further information, is because I want to present one of the new songs, the track list, new singer info, and artwork simultaneously. This album is a bit of a rebirthing of the band, so I'd prefer to release all that information in one package.
"On another note, both Andrew Atwood and Urban Breed are no longer involved with Dark Empire. And now, onto why this process is taking so long... Firstly, this is an entirely self-produced/financed endeavor for myself and Randy. We both work day jobs and have other commitments. We basically can only head into the studio when our schedules allow, so some things needed to be spaced out a bit time wise. Secondly, back in November I suffered from incredibly severe laryngitis and as a result of not giving myself proper rest, I developed nodules on my vocal cords. I have been unable to do any of my death vocals since then, although I've slowly been getting better. I'm hoping that by the end of June my voice will be healed enough to perform the death vocal spots on the new album. More...
One Many Army and the Undead Quartet's Johan Lindstrand has checked in with the following statement about parting ways with guitarist Mattias Bolander:
"We really are close to perfection now :-) It just feels great to get back in our death metal shape again after being away for some while now.
"Anyway, there has been some major changes in the band. I will not go into any details right now but yes, Mattias is no longer in the band. He was very dedicated to music but his vision kind of crashed with how we wanted to proceed with The Army. There is no need in going into more details.
"Our new band member is called Pierre Lysell. An awesome guy in any way. But we are kinda taking it day by day with him to see if both he and us can be together for the long run. As you all know we have had pretty bad luck when it comes to guitar players in the past. But so far it has been totally great so in a few weeks we can hopefully give you more info on the matter."
Norwegian black metal act Gorgoroth has announced the "Under the Sign of Hell 2011" release has been delayed due to manufacturing issues. The new release date is currently set as August 29th, 2011. "Under the Sign of Hell 2011" is a re-recording of the band's third full-length album.

5. Ødeleggelse og undergang

If all goes according to plan, the album will be recorded later this year."
The Konsortium will be releasing the band's new self-titled album on June 24th in Europe and August 2nd in North America. The track, titled "Crystalline Xanthine Alkaloid," promises to be one of the band's heaviest yet.
Download an MP3 of "Crystalline Xanthine Alkaloid" here (right-click and "Save Target As")
Founding member Dave Cotton offered the following commentary about the song:
"This was the most recent song we wrote before we went to the studio in February 2011. Anyone who has been following us since we first started playing live in 2008 would recognize that the sound of this song is a departure to what we had been doing previously. I feel our older material is very intricate as far as the arrangements go and this song is simpler and most definitely heavier. I could tell you exactly who we are trying to emulate as far as influences go, but I’ll leave it up to the listener put it together. Our engineer is a whiz and I think his touch is all over the song; I particularly like the mixing he did on the drums. Also creating the noise part in the middle was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in a recording studio. We all took turns using a Korg Kaos pad through a Boss Giga delay through a Roland Juno, through a Roland Handsonic on 'Texas Chainsaw Masscre' mode."
New, professionally filmed concert footage has been posted online featuring reunited grunge veterans Soundgarden. You can view the clip in the player below, in which the band performs "Fell on Black Days," with information on the band's upcoming North American headline tour being located here.

Soilwork guitarist Peter Wichers has posted the following statement online, announcing his decision to miss out on the band's forthcoming festival appearances;
"Thanks for all the great feedback and kind words of encouragement regarding my back injury! I’m feeling much better after several months of resting, but I’m not 100% yet, so I’ve decided to sit out some of the summer festivals in order to make a full recovery sooner. Filling in for me will be an old friend of the band and an amazing player: David Andersson. David has helped Soilwork out in the past, and we’re grateful that he’s offered to step in once again and make these shows possible!"
