Los Angeles, California's thrash tinged metalcore act Silent Civilian recently released a new album titled "Ghost Stories" while out on tour with Fear Factory and Prong. "Ghost Stories" is the second full-length release by the band, which was formed by vocalist Jonny Santos after departing Spineshank.
Jonny Santos spoke with me about producing the album to get a more raw feel and his departure from the political themes of the lyrics on the band's debut release "Rebirth of the Temple." Commenting on "Ghost Stories," Santos said, "It’s heavier and dirtier. For lack of a better term, I want to say the word 'dangerous.' You don’t really hear that term applied to music anymore, but that’s kind of what I feel like." More...

Dutch metallers Cirrha Niva have checked in with the following update about recruiting a new drummer:
"We are more than happy to welcome Wiebe Slim (ex-Melora Rain) as our new drummer! We already did one show with Wiebe while supporting The 11th Hour, but at that time he was just doin' us a favour. Needless to say that there was a perfect match that day, which resulted in the fact that Wiebe joined the band. Wiebe will introduce himself further on this week, but let's reveal something already right now.
"As a drummer he is influenced by Virgil Donati, Thomas Lang, Marco Minneman, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, Benny Greb, Gavin Harrison, Mike Portnoy and many more. So it's obvious he likes Planet X, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree & Symphony X. For those who want to see him doin' an improvised drum solo, check the video below. At the same time we'd like to take the opportunity to thank former drummer Tommy White and wish him a full recovery!"

U.K. based metal act Conspires To... has checked in with the following studio recording update:
"Last nights studio session was excellent! We nailed Allegiance and Falling Down, plus did a full vocal pass of Death or Dishonour which I am dying to listen back to. We thought we were putting down a guide track for Wayne to take away, but I have a feeling that he may have nailed that one too.
"The night was really successful even with the a major set back. The room next door was being used for a drum clinic, and it wasn't until we were about 45 mins into Allegiance that we realized that we were picking up the guy next door playing Beat It by Michael Jackson on his drums! so we had to move rooms and start again......oh well we obviously work better under pressure.
"Mixing commences this weekend so should have something new to listen too next week. Also I am working on a video for youtube. Just a montage of bits and pieces with the artwork merging in and out, but you never know it may just attract a few more visitors!! Anyway I'll report back again soon."

With a line-up boasting headline appearances from Children of Bodom, Fear Factory, Twisted Sister, plus a guest slot filled by Meshuggah, Bloodstock Open Air has now confirmed the gathering's final headline slot. The Friday night slot will be closed by Swedish Prog-metal superstars Opeth, who headlined back in 2008.
"We're pretty excited about coming back to play the Bloodstock festival with Opeth" states front man Mikael Akerfeldt "Myself and Axe will of course be double-fisting since we gonna cause some havoc with Bloodbath as well. We got asked to play since Heaven & Hell canceled and even though we obviously feel that we cannot possibly match their magic or fill the void, it will be like a personal tribute show to the memory of Ronnie Dio. So needless to say I'm honored to play, it will be intimidating and emotional I believe. We'll deliver as usual of course but yeah, I will be thinking about Dio, that's for sure."
The Bloodstock Open Air festival will take place from August 13th - 15th, 2010. Additional details on the festival can be found here.

"This tour has been going amazingly well. I am consistently surprised at how many places we find young people mixed with older in the audience. If we keep going, it may be possible to meet a lot of 3rd generation fans. Actually, we already have met some. Anyway, the sheer number of countries, time zones, and hours of traveling have made this all seem like a hazy dream to me. We have done longer legs, but this really seems like a long one! More...

We spent quite some time getting this album together and we're really stoked on how it came out.

Warrel Dane further states, “Working with director Nigel Crane was a great experience. We spent a day walking around the white cliffs in Dover the day before the London show and we couldn’t possibly be happier with the end result. The live part was shot at the O2 Academy Islington in London and we only performed the song twice that night so we had to make these takes count, so we went all out. It was pretty amazing that most of the audience knew all of the words even though we were a number of days away from the album’s release. Thanks for checking this out and we hope you enjoy it.”
