We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Johnny Fatts of Brooklyn heavy rock/metal band Black Water Rising shares one of his thousand pit stories for your entertainment, taking stage diving to a whole new level.
So it was 1992 or 1993 at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC and Pantera was in town on the Vulgar Display tour. They did 2 nights if I remember correctly and me being a metal fanatic, I had to go both nights like I normally do when one of my favorite bands plays multiple nights. Me being the nutjob that I am, I naturally HAVE to be up in the front and make myself be the most noticed idiot in the room so the band knew I was there and was the craziest fucker in the crowd. Night #1 they opened with "Fucking Hostile" and the place goes ape shit, kids climbing to the middle of the PA system which in height was about stage level maybe a little lower and diving off. So I jump the barrier and do a dive or 2 off the PA. It was fun but it just didn't cut the mustard for me and since everyone was doing it, it wasn't very memorable so I had to outdo myself and everybody else. The show carries on and there were the circle pits and crowd surfers, etc.etc but I still wasn't pleased with my pit performance yet HAHAHA!!!!
Night #2 they open with "A New Level" and that being my favorite at the time I lose my shit completely. I already knew what I was going to do before I got to the show but didn't expect that song as the opener and it made it that much better. So the lights go out and I jump the barrier to the PA again, this time the middle wasn't good enough so I climbed my crazy ass to the very top of it without anyone seeing me. Now this is about 6-8 ft above stage level so I'm pretty high up there, the lights go on and here I am standing on top of the PA above Pantera in front of about 4,000 maniacs all yelling jump. Security now see me and start to try and climb the PA to get me, now the band sees me and all I hear is Phil Anselmo yell "JUMP", so I dive off of this fuckin' thing and freefall directly on top of my friends and smashed my nuts right on one of their heads. YES IT HURT A LOT!!!!! That by far is one of my best pit stories and to this day I am still pissed that it never made it to the Pantera home videos, would've loved to see what it looked like from a different set of eyes HAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

"Just added a new instrumental 'Axe on Fire' The response to 'Inflicted' was so great that I recorded another tune with serious riffage and shredding. The tune maybe solo heavy with breaks and dynamics, but just got inspired and off it went. The lead was recorded in the first take and it just flowed from within. This song is dedicated to my friends and fans who help me get here. Your kind words, input and support is so appreciated."

Its really exciting to be on a roster with such amazing bands as Katalepsy, Cerebral Incubation, Pencil lead Syringe, and Perverse Dependence. Were happy to have found a label that is so supportive of us and encourages us to reach levels of brutality that would make other labels cringe. We cant wait to put this album in your hands!"
In the mean time, sample Eighty Thousand Dead tracks can be heard via the band's official MySpace page.

As the 25th Anniversary of Gwar plunges onward, the band descended upon the Bonnaroo festival for a performance that garnered the band SPIN Online's award for both best and worst act on the third day of the popular, drug-soaked music and art spectacle.
"A lot of people were very surprised to see us on the Bonnaroo stage", said lead front-thing Oderus Urungus. "But the more traditionally heavy festivals, such as Ozzfest or Warped, who claim to support underground and heavy music, have consistently denied Gwar, the heaviest underground band EVER! And what's even more ironic is that it took a bunch of tree-hugging hippies to give Gwar their biggest and best gig to date in the U.S. And that's after years of killing them onstage. Thank you, hippies!"
The band had publicly pledged to nasally violate the entire Dave Matthews Band, then had expanded the threat to include Jay-Z. But it was actually comedian Margaret Cho who became the sexual play thing to the band. To the chant of "Cho is a ho,” she took the stage during the bands encore and allowed Oderus to "fuck her face off." Footage of the disgusting event can be viewed below. More...

On June 13th Cristobal, drummer of the Spanish extreme metal band THE HERETIC, died in his flat due to a an unfortunate home accident. His flat-mate found his body yesterday, June 14th.
The band label comments: "From XTREEM MUSIC we're deeply affected by this loss, since Cristobal wasn't only a great musician, but above all, a more than excellent person of great human quality that only left friends wherever he went. Anyone who had the pleasure of dealing personally with him, can only say good things about Cristobal and for us, whose relationship dates since more than 13 years ago, it's a shock having lost such a great musician and comrade."
"We want to give our deepest condolence to his family, friends and specially his brothers in THE HERETIC (Juan Carlos, Fernando, Javier & Raul), band thanks to which Cristobal can be more than proud of being able to leave an indelible legacy of the highest quality through all their recordings and shows. Needless to say that the reunion show that the band were preparing for the next months where they would present their most recent release "Memorandum (1997-2007)", released just 2 months ago, won't take place and the future of the band remains more uncertain than ever.
"The rest of members of the band are still very affected with this shocking loss, so they haven't been able to update their official website, but anyone who wish to leave their last words to Cristobal, can do it through: www.myspace.com/thehereticofficial"

A short comment from the band: “This is by far the most experimental, the most challenging, and the most interesting album we have come up with since the beginning of the band. My personal take on this endeavor is quite simple actually: This album will be on the hot list when it comes out! Every member of the band has had the freedom to take things to the limits, above and beyond, and believe me, boundaries are transparent this time around, we’re going totally apeshit, and you’re definitely in for some big surprises with some cool guest performances by our friends in DUNÉ on the song “Big Truth” among other exciting things,” says vocalist Kasper Thomsen.
Stay tuned for artwork previews at the end of June.
Finally, here are the latest RAUNCHY tour dates: More...

There will also be a second stage, though no bands have been confirmed as of yet. There will also be fairground attractions, tattooists and stalls.
Ozzy stated: "It means a lot to bring Ozzfest back to the UK. This is the first time that we’re bringing Ozzfest indoors. The O2 is the perfect place to hold a festival. Let it rain, let it hail, let it thunder, because we’ll be rocking inside."
The surviving members of Heaven & Hell, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Vinny Appice, has announced that they will be performing a special set at England's High Voltage festival on July 24th, which will serve as a tribute to their late frontman Ronnie James Dio, who passed away as a result of stomach cancer last month. The band will be joined by former Deep Purple singer Glen Hughes as well as Masterplan vocalist Jorn Lande. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund.
Says Geezer Butler: "It's going to be a very emotional occasion. Ronnie loved his fans like no-one else I know - and they loved him. It will be a privilege doing a gig in honour of his memory, and to help towards his charity. Above all, I hope it encourages people to have regular check-ups for this disease. Early detection is vital, and greatly improves the chance of a cure. I know everyone has heard that a million times before, but seeing one of your best friends die because we all think we're immune from this disease, really brings it home. Do it for yourself, your family, your friends. Ronnie would be proud of you."
Tony Iommi says: "Ronnie's passing has left a huge hole, we hadn't anywhere near finished what we set out to do as a band together. He was so looking forward to the European tour and we hope this appearance will go some way to fulfilling that."
