In his latest studio diary, Sepultura guitarist, Andreas Kisser has confirmed that drummer, Dave Lombardo, who recently parted company with American thrash legends Slayer, will be appearing on the new, as-yet untitled, Sepultura record. An excerpt from his post reads as follows:
"Next morning we were preparing to record the second guitar when Ross received a message on his phone, he was really excited about it so he stopped everything to tell us what was going on: Dave Lombardo, the one and only ex-drummer from Slayer, also plays with Mike Patton on Phantomas, was real close to the studio with his kids and his dog enjoying some time at the beach, Ross asked if he would like to come to the studio and jam something on our album and he said YES! We were so excited, we could not believe that one of our great idols was ready to be a part of our new album.
"He came and it was so nice, so special, so awesome! He is one of the nicest guys in business and he enjoyed the idea a lot. Ross and Mike prepared two drum sets on the living room, facing each other, no cymbals, just tribal drums! When the mics were all ready and running Eloy and Dave started playing and the magic was on, so great! The part they recorded will be a special part on the middle of one of the songs, it came out crazy!
"We just have to thank Mr. Lombardo and his family for this opportunity. Thank you Dave, we will never forget this, it’s a real honor to have you on the album!"

By popular demand, Prosthetic Records will soon issue gatefold double-LP editions of the two albums that rocketed the French quartet Gojira from the European underground to international stardom.
“From Mars To Sirius” and “The Way Of All Flesh” will be released on vinyl on August 27th, 2013. Pre-orders are available now at this location.
Originally issued overseas in 2005, “From Mars To Sirius," released by Prosthetic in 2006, and never before available on LP in North America, was the Western Hemisphere’s formal introduction to Gorjia. One of MetalSucks’ Top 10 “best metal albums of the 21st Century so far,” the album was supported by U.S. tours with the likes of Lamb of God, Children of Bodom, Machine Head, Behemoth, and Amon Amarth. The gatefold 2LP set will be available in three 180-gram variants: “Eco-Green” (600 copies), “Mars Red” (200 copies) and “Sea Blue” (200 copies), the latter two of which are mail-order exclusives.
Engineered, mixed, and mastered by Logan Mader (Five Finger Death Punch, DevilDriver, Fear Factory), the follow-up was “The Way Of All Flesh” (2008). The band’s first release to crack the Billboard Top 200, the album — which features a guest appearance by Lamb of God front man Randy Blythe — was supported by tours with In Flames and All That Remains, in addition to a month touring North American arenas with Metallica. The gatefold 2LP set marks the first time in three years that the album will be available on vinyl, and it will be offered in two new variants: 180-gram clear (500 copies), and a mail-order exclusive, standard-weight blue/white split vinyl (500 copies).
Following the unleashing of the first "Dark Gods" installment, the second in the malevolent trilogy from black/death corruptors Von is nearly upon us.
Entitled "Dark Gods: Rise Of The Ancients" and completely envisioned and created by Von’s sole entity Venien, part two of the "Dark Gods" trilogy infiltrates the classic low-fi blackened monstrosities with which Von is synonymous, with more demonic rock, guttural vocal torment, and a plodding/maniacal occult doom murkiness.
The first plague from the trilogy comes as an advance single titled "Ritual Of The Black Mass." Initially released via Terrorizer Magazine’s covermount Fear Candy #121 CD compilation inside issue 127, the audio for “Ritual Of The Black Mass” is now streaming via VON’s official Bandcamp page. Check it out below.
Full details on the upcoming release of "Dark Gods II: Rise of The Ancients" will be revealed shortly in the bleak Summer months ahead. Von will manifest material from the "Dark Gods" trilogy live on foreign shores this Summer on the now seventeen-city Ritual of The Black Mass European Tour 2013, beginning this Wednesday, June 19th in Oberhausen, Germany. "Asymmetry" is the band’s first new release in over four years (following sophomore release, "Sound Awake") and the 14 tracks were recorded and mixed by producer Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, Mastodon) in Byron Bay, New South Wales.
“I think each time Karnivool walk into another record we all want to explore new ground,” explains vocalist Ian Kenny. “We want to open the door to our musical basement, switch the light off and tumble down the stairs into god knows what. Each time we switch the light on again we are a different band.”
“We wanted this record to be a natural evolution from Sound Awake,” adds guitarist Drew Goddard. “It needed to be more honest and raw, sound wise and song wise, exploring unchartered territory for the band while holding true to the things that make Karnivool... Karnivool.” More...

Darkest Hour has signed a worldwide deal with Sumerian Records and is hard at work on the band's much anticipated new full-length album.
Darkest Hour states: "To say that Sumerian Records and label owner Ash Avildsen are big supporters of this band would be a huge understatement. Today an official new video from Mumakil has been unleashed just in time to get you fired up for the weekend. Check it out in the player below. Relapse Records also comments on the clip:
"The 'Death From Below' video matches the immaculately captured yet crushing audio direct from the album to brutal live footage of the band performing the album’s whirlwind opening track, filmed by Schlep at L'Usine located in the band’s hometown of Geneva, Switzerland, with a legion of the town’s finest grindfreaks going berserk in the pit.
"Produced by the band at Terrier 5 Studio in Geneva, and the first Mumakil album to be released in four years, Flies Will Starve will hit the streets June 25th in North America, preceded by its release June 21st in Germany/Benelux/Finland and June 24th in the UK and abroad. The album devastates the listener with twenty-four tracks of precision grindcore teetering on the edge of insanity in the vein of Birdflesh, Misery Index, Antigama and Kill The Client. The oppressive percussion only lets up to build-up to the next blinding blast, the strings jackhammering forth the band’s most death-influenced riffing yet and of course the razorchoked vocal bloodbath is nothing short of nauseatingly awesome."
Formed in the summer of 2010 in the heart of Cascadia, "Winterwheel" is the second offering from blackened folk metal duo Moss of Moonlight and will be released this summer solstice on June 21st, 2013.
Described as "a true rarity in the black metal genre" by Pure Gain Audio, "Winterwheel" follows debut "Seed," a concept album about a band of Pacific North Western rebels that rise up and create the Republic of Cascadia.
According to the band, the "Winterwheel" album "reaches far beyond 'Seed', into colder and darker territories." Moss of Moonlight's Jenn Grunigen recently discussed the upcoming album in more detail and touched on the writing process:
“Winterwheel is a ritual put to song. It embraces the turning of the seasons, and the necessary, vicious loop of birth and death. Each song delves into the nature of a different Anglo Saxon god or goddess, and is steeped in the old, cyclic roads of our Pagan ancestors, as well as the very language of the Anglo Saxons. With this wisdom and craft, we made new rites--in other words, Winterwheel, this sacrifice to the gods, the cosmos. With each play, the ritual is brought to life once more, and anyone willing to listen is a participant in the offering.” More...

The Infinite Staircase has checked in with the following announcement about finishing work on a new EP:
"So, earlier this week, shy of a few last minute surprises yet to be announced, we have officially finished recording our EP with Morgan Rose at Architekt Music in Butler, New Jersey and the mad scientist Mike Ferretti has officially begun the process of mixing the songs.
"Going into this we thought we already knew what our single would be at the end of the month, but the magic of the studio has since changed that. It goes to show, you really never know what's going to happen when recording. More details on that coming soon!
"There are officially 6 brand new songs which will be featured on this EP with at least one or two special bonuses planned as well. An official tracklisting will be announced shortly, along with the EP title and release date.

Deadlock has checked in with the following brief announcement about a lineup change:
"LINE UP NEWS - our former bass player Ferdinand will continue as second guitarist to replace Gert, who left the group in early 2013 for family reasons."
Here is Ferdinand's statement:
"It's been 4 years now, since I joined the Deadlock family. I started as the merch guy, did the tour-management and took over bass, when John hooked up with the mic - so it was just the logical step, to fill the vacant guitar slot. Recording with Basti is always a huge challenge for every musician, but we had a great time while writing 'The Arsonist.' I already like my new job and I'm glad to know, that everybody else in the band is happy with the solution we found."
The band's new LP "The Arsonist" is due out on July 26th, 2013 via Napalm Records. The track listing is as follows: More...

Finland's Turisas announced that the follow-up to "Stand Up & Fight" (reviewed here) will be entitled "Turisas2013." The album is scheduled for release on August 26th (EU), September 2nd (UK) and September 3rd (North America) via Century Media Records.
The album was produced again by vocalist Mathias Nygård, with the majority of the album recorded by Mathias Nygård and guitarist Jussi Wickström in a remote house outside of Helsinki that worked as the “Turisas2013” command centre and head quarter.
Additional recordings were done in other studios: the drums at Atomic Spa Studio and orchestral recordings at 5 by 5 Studio, both in Helsinki. A large portion of the vocals and numerous additional acoustic elements were recorded at Sound Supreme Studio in Hämeenlinna where Turisas also recorded “The Varangian Way” and “Stand Up And Fight”. The mix and mastering was done by London based producer Jaime Gomez Arellano who has previously worked with Ghost, Primodial and Ulver, just to name a few.
According to a press release, the band "deliberately aimed for a more organic sound" this time around, and Mathias “Warlord” Nygård further comments: 'When it comes to the production it's just the opposite of the polished and massive ‘Stand Up And Fight’. It's raw and dry and in your face, but still maintaining that Turisas-largeness. People attest us that we are a great live band and we wanted the album to be based more around that than orchestral massiveness. It's our most varied record to date and even if some of the songs sound very different, I think the common thread is that every single one has a lot of energy to it.'"
While the band will be playing selected festivals during the summer season the release of “Turisas2013” will be supported by extensive European touring with the band joining the Heidenfest 2013. Dates are available after the jump. More...
