With thousands of fans trampling barricades, smashing into each other, and helping Devildriver create one of its best performances ever, the band thought the Guinness Book of World Records would want to certify the circle pit from Download 2007 as the biggest in history. Turns out not so much. Here’s what Guinness said:
"Thank you for sending us the details of your recent record proposal for ‘Largest Circle Pit’. We are afraid to say that we are unable to accept this as a Guinness World Record.
Unfortunately, as there is no way you can physically definie (sic) where any circle/mosh pit starts and ends, we cannot accept this as a category. We receive over 60,000 enquiries a year from which only a small proportion are approved by our experienced researchers to establish new categories. These are not ‘made up’ to suit an individual proposal, but rather ‘evolve’ as a result of international competition in a field, which naturally accommodates superlatives of the sort that we are interested in. We think you will appreciate that we are bound to favour those that reflect the greatest interest.
We realize that this will be disappointing to you. However, we have considered your proposal fully; in the context of the specific subject area and that of records as a whole, and our decision is final in this matter.
Once again thank you for your interest in Guinness World Records."
Devildriver‘s next album, "The Last Kind Words", comes out July 31. Find out why Kerrang! gave the album 4 Ks with a free MP3 of “All Who Wander Are Not Lost" at http://www.roadrunnerrecords.co.uk/devildriver
Goatwhore’s new video for “Forever Consumed Oblivion” will premiere on MTV2’s HeadBanger’s Ball this Saturday, June 16th. The clip was shot during God Forbid's "Chains of Humanity" tour, on which Goatwhore was direct support.
Director David Brodsky (God Forbid, Strapping Young Lad, Gwar) led the production for the eight-camera shoot in addition to handling the directing and editing duties.
Heaven and Hell will be touring with Rob Zombie and Queensryche beginning in September, dates to be announced.
According to Sirius Satellite Radio, brothers Max and Igor Cavalera are writing together again. According to Sirius, the new songs may include guest appearances by members of Napalm Death and Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo.
Igor Cavalera has been a free agent since he left Sepultura in June 2006 to work on personal issues. He was replaced by ex-Udora drummer Jean Dolabella.
In December 1996, following the tragic death of Max’s stepson, his bandmates — including his brother — tried to fire his wife and grieving manager Gloria Cavalera because they weren’t happy with the way she was handling the band’s business. Max viewed the move as an act of betrayal, quit the band and cut off contact with Igor until last year. Then on August 17 at the D-Low Memorial Festival in Tempe, Arizona, an event to honor the memory of Max’s late stepson, the guitarist and his brother took the stage to play two Sepultura songs, “Roots Bloody Roots” and “Attitude.”
3 Mile Scream have posted their Chad Archibald (Arise and Ruin) directed video for the track "Our Blackened Sun" online on YouTube.
"Shooting the video was such an amazing experience to take part in. The director was very easy going and was open to all of our ideas and input," says 3 Mile frontman Matt McGachy. "The only part which was a bit unpleasant was the after effects of shooting for ten hours straight at full tilt. All of our bodies hated us, and they definitely were not shy about letting us know about it."
"The shoot made us realize just how much work goes into the creating a video. It tested our limits physically having to go full tilt, take after take to get it all on film, says 3 Mile Scream bassist Mike Marino. “It was a great experience, the video looks sick and we look forward sharing it with everyone."
The track is taken from the group’s recently released Corporate Punishment debut album, A Prelude To Our Demise. The album has prompted a plethora of critical acclaim from critics and fans, including Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe who described the band as “Artfully orchestrated brutality” and Chris "OJ" Ojeda of Byzantine who said, "Not since STRAPPING YOUNG LAD has Canada had a band put the M in Metal like 3 Mile Scream. Their live show is unparalleled." More...

The annual Download festival took place on June 8th, 9th and 10th at Donington Park, England. Performing as part of the gargantuan festival, Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison accompanied Korn on drums. This record-breaking performance was Jordison’s fifth Download appearance since its inception in 2002, and marks him as the only artist to play the festival multiple times in 4 different high-profile bands. Past Download performances include: Murderdolls (main stage 2002), Slipknot (main stage 2004 & 2005), and a guest appearance with Metallica (main stage 2004).
Jordison has been performing with Korn since the departure of drummer David Silveria and states, “when I first heard Korn they blew me away and I have been a fan ever since…I’m looking forward to playing drums with these guys for the next five months!" Adding to his extensive list of musical accomplishments, Jordison has also been taking on producing duties, most recently working on the forthcoming 3 Inches of Blood release, Fire Up The Blades.
THE BLACK CRUSADE tour brings together four of the leading lights in metal for a string of UK arena shows. Headed up by MACHINE HEAD and TRIVIUM, the tour will march through the UK with DRAGONFORCE, ARCH ENEMY and a third special guest act (TBA) in tow.
TRIVIUM's Matt Heafy is equally excited: "It's going to be a really amazing show for the fans. Rarely is there a tour where every single band is such a dominating force in the music world. MACHINE HEAD have always been revolutionary in bringing monumental albums every damn time they put one out; DRAGONFORCE are sweeping (literally and guitar-atively) the entire world with their lightning fast precision and incredibly memorable tracks; and ARCH ENEMY are queen and kings of a metal capable of being so brutal and heavy, yet so melodic and catchy. It's great to look at this line-up purely as a music fan and know that us Triviums are gonna have a fantastic time ourselves, being able to watch some of our favourite bands who also happen to be some of our best friends in the metal world."
The Black Crusade Tour dates confirmed so far include:
Tue 20 Nov Glasgow SECC
Wed 21 Nov Manchester MEN Arena
Fri 23 Nov Birmingham NEC
Sat 24 Nov London Brixton Academy
Sun 25 Nov London Brixton Academy
Mon 26 Nov Cardiff CIA Arena
An e-card for the new CANDLEMASS album, "King of the Grey Islands", can be accessed at this location. The e-card features audio samples of all tracks that are set to appear on the CD, which is due on June 22 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Former CANDLEMASS frontman Messiah Marcolin told Blabbermouth.net on May 12, 2007 that "It has come to my attention that someone pretending to be me has written a fake statement on the official CANDLEMASS forum. I have not written the fake statement and I do not agree with the lies in it. The only official statement I have made was on Blabbermouth April 28, 2006. I then told you I have quit CANDLEMASS and that it's 100 percent definite that I will not return. 'We could not agree on how to do the new album.' That statement was as true then as it is now. I will tell you one more thing though. I have never had a 'severe pre-recording psychosis.' That was a lie told by Leif Edling [CANDLEMASS bassist/songwriter]."
"King of the Grey Islands" features Marcolin's replacement, Robert Lowe of SOLITUDE AETURNUS.
Greek black metal pioneers NECROMANTIA have inked a deal with Dockyard 1. The group is currently working on its new album, "The Sound of Lucifer Blasting Heaven," for a November release.
Says the band: "Be prepared for a mix of harsh black metal, dark orchestrations and ritualistic parts the NECROMANTIA way! You have been warned!"
Formed in 1989, NECROMANTIA was at the forefront of the second wave of black metal alongside DARKTHRONE, EMPEROR, SAMAEL, ENSLAVED, IMPALED NAZARENE, ROTTING CHRIST and BURZUM, among others. Their unique music style and dedication to the "black arts" established them as one of the leading bands from southern Europe along with their countrymates ROTTING CHRIST.

Massachusetts' ALL THAT REMAINS recently wrapped up the band's brief stint in Canada with Protest The Hero, where frontman Phil Labonte sat down with Pure Grain Audio.com to discuss the band's latest record, 'The Fall of Ideals,' as well as the singer's musical background, writing styles and more. Here are a few excerpts:
Tell us a little bit about this new record and the progression from This Darkened Heart to The Fall of Ideals.
Phil: When you listen to this record and the last record, you can hear similarities, but it definitely doesn’t sound like we’re just putting out the last record again. I think any artist strives to make music that doesn’t sound like anything else. I’m not saying that we don’t want to have people say, “Well this part reminds me of this,” because I think it’s cool and influences come from everywhere. With this record there is a lot of inspiration but it’s not from your typical sources, because we all listen to a lot of different styles of music. I listen to country music and a lot of garbage pop. I’m not a James Hetfield and want to go ahead and turn our band into a country band and our new album definitely isn’t country, but it’s just there’s a lot of good music out there. That stuff just fits right in.
So you were the headbanger in high school with long hair and a Suffocation t-shirt?
Phil: I did have long hair and I did own more than 1 Suffocation t-shirt. [laughs] In fact when I met Frank Mullen from Suffocation I got a little bit fan boyish. I’ll see him at shows and stuff and he’ll say, “Hey what’s going on?” and I’ll get like “Awww shucks...” I’m a big fan of his and think that he’s a phenomenal death metal vocalist.
You wrote the majority of material on This Darkened Heart yourself. Has the writing process changed any with this release?
Phil: A lot of this record was written by Olie, who probably wrote about 70% of this record. Then he would bring it to us and we’d work the rest of it as a band. It was very much a collaboration when it came to putting everything together. We’d put the songs into a computer and them move them around and chop them up a bit. With this record while we were writing, we had a lot of things happen on the business side where we went and got new management. That’s the stuff that I’ve always had a hand in and on the last record, even though I wrote the majority of the material, but it was still a collaboration. This time it wasn’t that I was relinquishing control, but it was just that I didn’t have as much time to write. A lot of the stuff that was written had been written months previous over the course of touring behind This Darkened Heart.
Currently supporting the band's latest album, 'The Fall of Ideals,' ALL THAT REMAINS announced they will record the band's July 12 show in Maryland for the band's forthcoming debut DVD. The band will also appear on the July 14 Sounds of the Underground date before heading to Mexico for the first time before departing again for Europe, which includes a performance at the prestigious Wacken: Open-Air festival.
