Pit Stories: The Devil And The Dirty Deed

Tuesday again already? That means we've got more hilarious Pit Stories for you culled straight from the minds of the musicians themselves!

In recent weeks we've seen a show get tanked by a pretty smile and a very interesting way of expressing anger during a battle of the bands being judged by nuns.

Today we've got two stories from Annamaria Pinna and Dave Sussman of the New York based rock / gypsy metal Band Vajra. Both got a lot more than they bargained for at shows - but one of these endings is more enjoyable than the other!

First up is Annamaria, offering a story of a very unexpected encounter while waiting for the bathroom:

This actually just happened on our To The Ends Of The Earth tour. We were in Ohio. We had just played and I was waiting for the bathroom. I didn’t have my phone on me because it was charging so I basically looked around trying to waste time. The walls became so very interesting at that point.

I must have been waiting 5 minutes when all of a sudden, a woman sitting at the booth next to me leaps up, points in my direction and says “Either she goes, or I go!” And I looked at her intrigued by the drama unfolding before my eyes. It was like a juicy soap opera taking place right before my eyes. I looked behind me to see who she must have been referring to, but there was no one else there. The thought crossed my mind; was she talking about me? At that point, she glares at me and said “She’s the devil! Look at her, she’s evil!” So, naturally, I started laughing, which of course, freaked her out even more.

Her husband then jumps up, approaches me, apologizes and says she is really drunk. The whole situation amused me, so I smiled, looked at her, and told her husband not to worry and that this is clearly her issue. As I continued to smile and look at her, she continued to unravel and freak out more. I thought to myself that this experience paralleled a few chapters in The Master and Margarita.

Not sure why she thought I was the Devil, but I take it as a compliment. Bahahahhaha!

Dave meanwhile had this story to share about really "performing" well on stage: More...

5FDP Comments On Disastrous Show

After a show in Tilburg last night was cut short last night and Ivan Moody apparently quit the band mid-set, Five Finger Death Punch has now released a statement about the situation. It doesn't address the Moody situation at all, but does indicate the band will still continue touring. The band comments:

"Those who have followed 5FDP from the beginning can tell you there has always been an element of danger and unpredictability in our music and in our shows.

"That’s Rock ‘n’ Roll. When you do over 150 shows in a year, you will inevitably have a few derailments, but the train always keeps on moving. Last night in Tilburg was one of those instances, but as they say, you aren’t a race car driver if you don’t wreck a car or two.

"We can’t wait to put on amazing shows tomorrow night at Nova Rock all the way to our just announced winter tour all over Europe. See you all on the race track... bring a helmet..." More...

Moral Void Announces "Deprive" Album

Chicago blackened hardcore punk trio Moral Void will drop blistering debut full-length album entitled "Deprive" on August 11th with Translation Loss Records.

Since 2012, Moral Void has given only a taste of the band's thunderously caustic sound with three 7" releases (one being a split with Young And In The Way). For this debut full-length album, "Deprive" delivers ten dismal new songs, each one grittier than the last.

"We wanted to create a group of movements that were cohesive, versatile, and dynamic while maintaining aggression and rawness," drummer Ryan Emmans explains. "We were focused on writing music that gets to the point right out of the gate and doesn’t waste anyone’s time."

The album was recorded at Minbal Studios by Moral Void's own guitarist/vocalist Matt Russell and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. The full track listing is as follows: More...

Igorrr Posts New Making-Of Video

On June 16th, Igorrr - the brainchild of French musician and eclectic composer Gautier Serre - will release new album, "Savage Sinusoid," via Metal Blade Records.

On this record, electronic manipulations, accordion, saxophone, sitar, harpsichord, mandolin and strings sit comfortably alongside ruthless blast beats, chunky riffs, death grunts and soaring operatic vocals - and as chaotic as this might sometimes seem, there is no lack of heart behind everything thundering from the speakers.

Check out the latest behind-the-scenes video chronicling the making of "Savage Sinusoid" below. More...

Cormorant Reveals New Album Cover

"Diaspora" is the impending new full-length album from progressive black/death practitioners Cormorant. Slated to drop this August 11th, the consuming follow-up to 2014's "Earth Diver" sees Cormorant take progressive metal in expansive and exploratory new directions.

Recorded and mixed by Greg Wilkinson (Vastum, Graves At Sea, Noothgrush, Brainoil) at Earhammer Studios in Oakland, California, the sixty-one-minute offering features the band's longest, most detail-oriented compositions to date.

"Diaspora" also features performances from renowned cellist Jackie Perez Gratz (Grayceon, Giant Squid, ex-Amber Asylum) and was mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, YOB, Gatecreeper). Additionally, Utah-based visionary artist Jeff Christensen created the album's vivid and stunning four-panel artwork, revealed for the first time today.

Issues Christensen, "The idea was to create four panels of artwork based on a migration theme. I thought it would be interesting to have the panels run consecutively to form an expansive, evolving image where the eyes can just roam. We wanted each painting to be able to hold its own as a standalone image but also be a link to the wider image of the migratory theme. The original artwork was done with oil paints on four 16" x 16" panels. The entire process was a challenge, and the finished images are really different than anything I've done before. I was given a lot of reign to just do my thing and I'm very happy with the way it turned out." More...

Fall Of Summer Adds Five More Bands

The Fall of Summer team is excited to reveal five new bands the impending 2017 line-up, with the festival's organizers commenting:

"Let's get started with a very important project to us, as French metalheads and heavy metal lovers, with a tribute band to the cult heavy metal group Sortilege! Before giving you more details soon, we are very proud to tell you that some original members of the band will come on stage for the occasion!

"Still heavy metal to the core, let's raise our fist and start the rebellion together with German legends Grave Digger! It's also a great pleasure for us to welcome the cult American thrash metal band Toxik for a first show in France.

"Last but not least we are glad to announce two great American death metal bands, with grind death masters of Cattle Decapitation and veterans from Broken Hope, who reformed 5 years ago with Jeremy Wagner joined by vocalist Damian Leski from Gorgasm and other talented musicians, without stopping by the Paris area at all. They had to, at some point, and we're glad it will be at Fall of Summer 2017!"

Tickets for the French Fall of Summer 2017 festival can be obtained over here. More...

Carnifex Releases "Dark Heart Ceremony" Video

California group Carnifex just released a live video for "Dark Heart Ceremony," taken from last year's "Slow Death" album. The footage was shot by Enlighten at The Glasshouse in Pomona, California.

The clip arrives just ahead of Carnifex's appearance on 2017 Warped Tour. The band will spend the entire summer performing as part of the annual festival and this clip demonstrates the type of live fury with which Carnifex takes the stage. It is certainly a taste of what's to come this summer. You've been warned.

"The stage is where everything about our music comes to life," said vocalist Scott Ian Lewis about the clip. "The love, the hate, the pain, everything is on display. This video captures those moments both on stage and in the crowd and so much more."
