LiveDaily.com reports: It's time once again for air-guitar virtuosos to whip out their invisible axes and rock the house. The fifth annual US Air Guitar Championships competition is under way and traveling to cities from coast to coast.
Hopefuls have already competed in Washington, DC, and New York City, and the tour moves on to Boston tonight (6/8). The outing, MC'd by "Air Guitar Nation" documentary star and "To Air is Human" author Bjorn Turoque, will stop by major US markets through the end of this month. Details are listed below.
A panel of independent judges hand-picked by US Air Guitar will consider technical merit, stage presence and "airness" in critiquing the 60-second performances. All guitars must be invisible.
One winner from each city, three winners from an online competition and defending champ Hot Lixx Hulahan will move on to compete in the US Air Guitar Finals this August in New York City. In addition to winning $1,000, the chosen one will be sent to Oulu, Finland, in September to represent the USA in the Air Guitar World Championships.
The online portion of the competition, which is set to begin soon, will allow air guitarists all over the US to upload performance clips for a chance to compete in the US finals. Further details about how to enter are available at the US Air Guitar website.
Founded in 2003, the US Air Guitar Championships have grown from two competitions into a national tour that draws more fans and competitors every year, according to a press release.
"US Air Guitar is devoted to taking our nation's unofficial pastime out of the bedroom and putting it up on the world stage," the organization's mission statement declares. "In a time when US military and economic leadership faces unprecedented criticism around the world, it is our belief that air guitar represents one endeavor our country can dominate without controversy. US Air Guitar is here to make this possible."

Dutch death metal legends SINISTER have offered the following update regarding the band's activity over the past year:
"It has been more then a year since we took the time to write something personal again on this page. Not so strange, since we were extremely busy the last twelve months. We visited almost 30 countries this year for the promotion of Afterburner so you can probably imagine how busy it actually was.
Meanwhile Aad found the time to become a daddy some months ago, so Alex (who has a 3 year daughter running around) is not the only one in the band anymore who likes to talk about diapers and duplo, haha!
About the new album; Alex wrote on this moment 3 complete songs with a total running time of 22 minutes!!! Yes, the new songs are longer then the stuff we did before. One of them is even longer then 10 minutes. Musically it will follow the direction of Afterburner, which means fast catchy blastbeats combined with slow atmospheric melodic parts.
Unfortunately, we haven't got any time yet to practice them as a band. However, we will take it slower on the concerts the next few months to work on this situation. Our goal is to make a demo this summer with 4 tracks so we can get an idea how they will sound on the album.
Also a word to our Mexican fans; this August we will visit your beautiful country to do some shows. Mexico City has been confirmed and hopefully we can add 2 more gigs. It has been 4 years since our last visit so it would be great to see you guys and girls again."
Huntington Beach, CA's SiX have announced the release of their new album “Between The War and the Warning.” The album, which features guest appearances by Mike Clark from Suicidal Tendencies and bassist Tony Campos from Static-X, will be released independently through the group’s own 1605 Records.
"Tony and Mike were a blessing to this project. After rocking out to one of our rough demos he got from a mutual friend, Mike wanted to meet us. That meeting turned into partying in Hermosa Beach over Tecates and Tequilla. By the end of the night he and his homie destroyed his coffee table, moshing to 'The Day I Died.' He came into the studio and just man-handled the guitar. I've never seen a guy rip like that so effortlessly," says frontman Lauren Boquette. "Tony and I go way back to my days in Drown. We knew he was a monster on the bass and when it came time to track bass parts, I sent him 'The Day I Died' and 'Warning' knowing they would be right up his alley. He came in and within 2 hours the bass lines were on fire, he killed it." More...
The Atomic Clock himself updated with a lengthy blog post on his myspace page:
"Howdy folks. Well, where to start? There's just too much stuff going on at the moment to remember, let alone catalogue in any sort of abridged manner, so I'll just dive in chronologically I suppose...
"I'm here in Vancouver, mainly to complete the editing of my forthcoming dvd, "The Atomic Clock". Wow, original title, eh? If I had just concentrated on double-bass on it, I might have called it "Evil is A Foot", but since I do way more than just metal drumming on it, I figured "The Atomic Clock" just fits. And, I am still shooting for a July release, available at first on my websites.
"Let me tell ya, it's coming out great! I'm really psyched! It's gonna clock in at about 2 hours, and hopefully they're gonna be an entertaining 2 hours for all. Upon it's completion, I'll have a more detailed blurb about it. Say, haven't ya heard that one before?
"I'm also up here completing the mix for the MECHANISM album, who will be featured heavily on said "The Atomic Clock" dvd. That is coming out righteous, as well. I'm super-pumped for this one. I'll say this a million times, but this is probably my craziest drum album to date. As of yet, we have no finished product to share with anyone, and I'm pretty glad about that fact. Hopefully it'll drop like a bomb. Or at least a well-placed M-80. More...
Chicago's YAKUZA have confirmed the release date for the band's recently completed full-length, 'Transmutations,' due out August 7 through Prosthetic Records. A listening party will take in the band's hometown July 31 at The Liar's Club, details will be confirmed shortly.
"Exploration, experimentation, riding the line between the familiar and the foreign; the essential elements for YAKUZA have already been established,” frontman Bruce Lamont says about the band's sound. “We are not interested in creating music that’s not easily definable. Our roots are firmly planted in metal - yes, but like life, the sounds here are not cut and dry. At times this record can be uplifting, cruel, celebratory and just downright fuckin’ mean."
Utilizing producer and established multi-instrumentalist Sanford Parker (Rwake, Pelican, Minsk) for the recording of Transmutations, YAKUZA couldn’t be happier with the album’s end sound: “Sanford was great to work with,” Lamont says. “We really feel he has refined his craft over the past half a dozen recordings he's done. He’s known the band for a long time and helped with our last release, so he is already aware of our studio tendencies. With him the process felt almost effortless.”
YAKUZA began demoing new material on February 28 at Semifour Studios in the band's hometown. 'Transmutations' was produced by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Minsk, Rwake), who made a guest appearance on the band's last release, 'Samsara'.
Here are the currently schedule YAKUZA shows:
6/16 Blue Island, IL – Kelly’s Irish Pub
7/31 Chicago, IL – The Liar’s Club (Transmutations listening party)

We hope all you Thrash fans enjoy this mass of noise we've created for you.”

Melbourne jazz metal band Alarum have lost their 12 year guitarist Scott Young, who left the band to pursue his solo projects and work with gothic metal outfit Darkest Dawn. In a recent interview, Young reflected on the decision to strike out on his own, saying:
It was an extremely difficult choice to make - these guys are like family to me, you know. But something simply had to give. I was stretching myself too thin, and I didn’t want to mess the guys around. I still believe in the band and their music, and wish them all the best. I’m very excited about pursuing my solo material, which I’ve had on the back burner for years - and in seeing what may come of Darkest Dawn.
Young performed his final gig with Alarum supporting Obituary at the Prince Of Wales in Melbourne on May 17 2007, to great support from loyal fans. Meanwhile, Darkest Dawn are currently mastering their debut album, "End Of Season". Recorded with Theron Rennison and set to hit store shelves in August, the album will be distributed in Australia by Riot Entertainment, and is currently being shopped to overseas labels. The news of Young's departure comes just months after drummer Matt Racovalis left the band and was replaced by Rob Brens.
