The LA based, doom-inclined modern metal outfit recorded "It Begins Again" at Love Juice Labs in Riverside, CA. Artwork was done by Jeff Rogers, who previously did the artwork for the band's Season of Mist debut, "No Matter Where It Ends."
Regarding the new material, vocalist Trae Malone said, "For this EP, I thought we could do something special. We decided to record our new material with Black Sheep Wall's original vocalist, Jeff Ventimiglia. Everyone has been so welcoming of my presence in the group, since the beginning, so I thought it would be a nice gesture, to all the individuals that have supported us, through the years. I have been a fan/friend of Jeff's for years. Regarding the music, I listen to a lot of doom/sludge/grunge, new and old. Most of it is from Europe. With this EP, I really wanted to tap into some of the traditional tones of that genre. It just feels like an organic progression of the music, it just feels right. This EP felt good to get out." The pit is the heart of the metal scene, and just about every metal head has a favorite pit story, which is why each week we check in with musicians from around the globe to get their best tale of moshing mayhem.
Today Detroit act Wilson shares this story of a stage dive gone wrong while the band was supporting Newsted at Highline Ballroom on May 21st, 2013:
Recently Wilson was honored with the privilege of being Jason Newsted’s direct support for his new endeavor aptly called Newsted. We went out on a string of dates from May 15th – 23rd together. Each night venues packed in tons of middle aged veterans of metal who had most likely just dropped off their suits to the dry cleaners on 5th Ave right before they traded their Hush Puppies for a pair of Converse to "kick out the jams" for their well-deserved evening of debauchery. I mean no disrespect here, the folks that were in attendance at these shows were ready to let the juices of the metal parking lot coarse through their veins once again, however, these folks were not there to “mosh it up” like they had in their teens, they wanted to bang their heads, crush some brews and party hard, (as hard as a 40 year old pissed off teen turned carpenter could) but not to harm each other. You could literally see the aggression build in each one of them as Newsted ripped through bangers every night, but never crossing that line…except in NYC.
The gods of metal were toiling with the crowd at the Highline Ballroom and as Newsted starting ripping the opening riffs to Whiplash (the only Metallica cover he played) the crowd went ape shit. Let me precursor this by adding this was the only show on the tour that did not have a barricade of sorts… and after that night it would be the last. About half way through the song (you know the part where “its fucking WHIPLASH”) a rapid fan had let his blood boil enough and just HAD to get on that stage with the legend for some honest to goodness stage divin’. And just as he thought his coast was clear and he spotted an open area to let the hands of the crowd carry him into sweet, sweet drunken revelry …BAM!! His body met the body of a Mr. Jason Newsted. In fact the collision between him and Newsted was so fast and jarring it sent Jason flying off the stage face first into the crowd. Well, the crowd and some floor.More...

Blood Tears, the doom metal band formed by Earth (Seduced by Suicide), has released a split CD with Hermit Age. The follow up to 2004's "Demo Songs" is just the first partnership with Hermit Age to be released this year. Earth comments:
"Even though we play really different music, Diego (Hermit Age) and I have a lot in common. This includes our work (we both have a recording studio) and some strong musical influences, like Type O Negative. 'Gothic Dream' and 'Sinnocence' were released pretty much at the same time and we faced similar challenges and solutions. Even before that we used to help each other a lot with information about music and audio, to grow together. All of that even living in different cities. I believe that we didn't met each other more than three times.
"In the last years I recorded several new songs with Blood Tears and Seduced by Suicide just for myself and I knew that he did the same, so, considering our affinity and the fact that I'm really a fan of Hermit Age, I decided to invite him to release our songs together, afterall we have a similar audience."
The split CD features the songs "My Dearest Scar" (Blood Tears) and "Spread The Sin" (Hermit Age) and is available for download at this location.

"Mainly we'd been working on fine-tuning a few songs ready for the drum session with John Tempesta in LA come Mid-July, and they should now sound much better than they already did. Which is saying something. Next step is for me to go into Springvale studios in Ipswich and re-sing some of the parts we've improved upon, in order that the tracks are the best they can possibly be, to beat other music up to. "Surging with a modernized translation of the works of mandatory crossover pioneers Nuclear Assault, the Cro-Mags and Leeway, Manifest Decimation hurtle the band’s 'steel, speed and destruction' ethos direct at the jugular with thirty-five minutes of crossover intensity that sounds like it was excavated from a 1987 time capsule with sixteen tons of radioactive dynamite. With nearly thirty-five minutes of thrashing violence, recorded by Arthur Rizk and Daniel Schmuck and produced, mixed, and mastered by Arthur Rizk at Solomon's Gate in Philadelphia, Manifest Decimation wages war on all in its earshot, much like the Power Trip name has become synonymous with in the wake of their rabid live shows." With evocative artwork by Comaworx, the aptly titled Fatal Power of Death is a dynamic, multi-hued journey into the mysteries of death - and The Metal of Death - through oft-epic, flowingly serpentine songwriting and hideous, incendiary execution, twisting their way downward into caverns of disease 'n' dread but never losing sight of a well-composed song. Thematically, Church of Void steer away from the popular 'occult' current and focuses on levels of the human condition instead."

The Dillinger Escape Plan regretfully must cancel the band's upcoming summer European festival and club appearances due to an injury sustained by guitarist and co-founder Ben Weinman on his right hand and wrist. He will spend June recovering.
"I'm heartbroken that we will miss these shows because we were all looking forward to them a great deal," Weinman said. "Obviously nobody likes being injured. I'm looking forward to performing on Summer Slaughter at full capacity and we will be back in Europe this fall on our headlining tour."
The Dillinger Escape Plan performed at Metallica's Orion Music & More festival over the weekend, where Metallica's Robert Trujillo was kind enough to give Ben a chair to watch and heckle the rest of his band during the set.
Dillinger is touring in support of new album "One of Us is the Killer" which debuted at #1 on the US heavy music chart. The group also recently completed a video for the album's title track which will be released in the coming weeks.

"Ben is going to take the next month to heal and we'll be ready to demolish Summer Slaughter and return to Europe in the fall with all systems loaded and ready to go."" More...
