Launch Radio Networks reports: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello, sometimes known as the protest folksinger THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, performed in Germany last Saturday (June 2) as part of the Move Against G8 protest. An estimated fifty to sixty thousand people showed up for the rally where Morello was one of the performers.
Morello described the crowd: "I headed into the crowd. Police began to attack the crowd with water hoses and tear gas. There were big fires. I saw members of the black bloc throwing bottles at police." Despite some violence, however, most of the protests were peaceful.
Morello performed the songs "One Man Revolution", "The Road That I Must Travel", and "Maximum Firepower".
Morello says he made his exit by sea in a dramatic escape: "After my set, I had to escape via small boat to the Baltic Sea. There were police boats blockading the entrance to the festival and we snuck out under cover of darkness."
Morello is in the middle of a NIGHTWATCHMAN tour of the U.S.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE has reformed, and is expected to be playing shows soon.
Morello explained the origin of his "NIGHTWATCHMAN" name, which came from when he first began performing his protest songs incognito in coffeehouses. "I would sign up anonymously, you know," he said. "I didn't want to sign up as Tom Morello and have people, you know, between their mochaccinos clamoring for 'Bulls On Parade'. So I signed up as THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, and it was a moniker that seemed to fit the music that I was writing and playing, and it stuck."
SPV Records, one of Europe's leading music companies, has announced today the signing of an exclusive joint venture label/distribution agreement with New Jersey-based Trustkill Records. It was announced today by Jay Lansford, A&R of SPV, Ulrike Rudolph, General Manager of SPV, Josh Grabelle, founder of Trustkill, and Robert Dippold General Manager of Trustkill.
Under this new agreement, SPV will manufacture/distribute as well as market/promote Trustkill product in Europe, while working closely with Trustkill on further expanding the label's reach in the marketplace, building and extending its brand and helping the company to capitalize on the many new and emerging opportunities across a variety of retail and new media platforms.
Over the past ten years, Trustkill Records has emerged from a college dorm room project into the leading authority on metal, hardcore, punk and indie music in the independent sector. In 2006, Trustkill scored five debut albums on the Billboard charts, three of which landed in the "Top 200". These include Bleeding Through, who have combined sales of over 200,000 albums to date, and whose new album, The Truth, released in 2006, debuted at #1 on Billboard's "Top New Artist Chart". Bullet for My Valentine, who also released their debut album in 2006, scored Billboard's "Hotshot Debut" and has since sold over 250,000 copies in the U.S. Trustkill has also successfully diversified into such areas as music publishing, film, mobile, merchandise/e-commerce, and touring. Upcoming releases include new albums from Throwdown, Hopesfall, Bedlight for Blue Eyes among many others.
"After 10 years of doing this with various distributors, we are excited to be joining the SPV team," added Josh Grabelle. "SPV approached us at a very strategic time period for us, and I feel that they, above anyone else, really understand our business model, our brand, and goals. With their seamless distribution and label behind us we have huge plans to really take this label into the future and expand our roster, staff, sales on a global level."
"The alignment indicates a significant strategic worldwide extension and expansion of an important relationship for Trustkill," commented Trustkill General Manager Robert Dippold. "Our brand serves a perfect musical niche that SPV has built their company on and was seeking to expand upon. I'm confident that SPV's passion for music, expertise, and reputation in marketing and branding artists will make a very formidable combination."
"We're very excited to have Trustkill on board with us. Their creativity, artist roster and independent spirit fit perfectly into what we've been building and expanding upon year after year," adds Ulrike Rudolph, Head of SPV Labels. "With Trustkill we reach yet another target audience and can continue to expand, while others claim that the industry is struggling. We're proud to say that we continue to grow."
SLAYER's entire performance at this year's Download festival, which took place June 8-10 at Donington Park, Leicestershire, England, has been posted at Google Video (approx 55 minutes).
Massachusetts' ALL THAT REMAINS has announced that the band will film an upcoming live performance for inclusion on the band's forthcoming DVD release. Tentatively scheduled for release later this year, ALL THAT REMAINS has been compiling footage for inclusion since the band's 2004 release, 'This Darkened Heart,' including a previous performance in Philadelphia earlier this year. The as-yet-untitled DVD is scheduled for a fall release through Prosthetic Records.
"As everyone knows we shot footage for a DVD," frontman Phil Labonte said. "Unfortunately, some of the audio files were corrupted so we have to shoot again. I know, this is getting stupid, but we don't want to put out some sub par, crappy DVD. Most of you guys 'n gals have been with us for a long time and waiting almost as long for the DVD. We are working hard to make sure if you plunk down 20 bucks, you get what you pay for: A full live show and enough extras to give you a sense of who we are. With that being said I'm gonna announce there is going to be another ALL THAT REMAINS DVD shoot Thursday, July 12th at The Recher Theater in Towson, MD; other acts TBA. This also will also stand as a makeup show for the Baltimore date we missed on the Bullet For My Valentine tour. So come on out, again. Get into it!"
Currently supporting the band's latest album, 'The Fall of Ideals,' ALL THAT REMAINS has already toured Europe twice for the record and just recently completed headlining dates, support dates for Bullet For My Valentine and a brief Canadian run with Protest The Hero. Additionally, the band appeared on Ozzfest 2006 and touring Stateside with DragonForce and Killswitch Engage among others. Now, the band will appear on the July 14 Sounds of the Underground date before heading to Mexico for the first time before departing again for Europe, which includes a performance at the prestigious Wacken: Open-Air festival.
"We got home last Monday from Canada, from the Tour And Loathing tour with Protest The Hero," Labonte said. "What a great fucking time. After all the crap with the van and missing shows, the last week and a half were AMAZING! To everyone who came out and supported ATR: THANK YOU! We love playing up there for you guys!"
Here are the latest ALL THAT REMAINS tour dates:

Just For Fun
You've got to be a Last.fm user to participate in this one. Recently there was a tool released called the Mainstream-O-Meter that looks at your music listening habits (top 30 most listened to artists) and calculates how mainstream your tastes are based on how many other Last.fm users listen to the same artists. The formula is well thought-out, although likely far from perfect based on the user samples and sampling of music played only at users' computers, but let's run with it just for fun.
The resulting score is a percentage representing how mainstream your musical tastes are. One could therefore infer that the difference would represent how underground your music tastes are.
Take my stats for instance: If I'm only 6% mainstream, I would be 94% underground. How underground are you?
If you have a Last.fm account and have not joined the Metal Underground Last.fm group, please do so.

Underground Video Television (UVTV) had the chance to chat with Sweden’s metal powerhouse IN FLAMES’ lead vocalist Anders Friden to talk about the band and how they came to be. Anders explains the convoluted story of his entrance into the band, the relationship of several other bands in Sweden to IN FLAMES & the sharing & switching of band members in the complicated story of the emergence of IN FLAMES to international fame in the Metal community.
The video bio interview feature “In Their Own Words” with Anders Friden was filmed during the band’s last North American tour and is available for viewing at the UVTV website.
IN FLAMES is currently in its studio doing pre-production & demos for the band's forthcoming album which is to be recorded later this year. The group has been working on new material since early May. The current sessions are taking place at IF Studio in Gothenburg, the same studio IN FLAMES used last time they did pre-production.
3 Mile Scream Shoot Video, Announce Canadian Tour With Dear Black Diary 3 Mile Scream have announced dates for their upcoming tour of Eastern Canada with Dear Black Diary. The band is currently on tour in support of their Corporate Punishment debut A Prelude To Our Demise.
The band’s debut album has been receiving critical acclaim since its November release. The Montreal Mirror said, “"The ghosts of At the Gates, Meshuggah, the Haunted and Slayer reach out through their sound." While Decibel Magazine reported, "This quintet is akin to a more energetic God Forbid, with staccato riffs and languid melodies giving way to machine-gun breakdowns at almost every turn."
"We're thrilled about the response this record has been getting, as it's been nothing short of amazing and hope that we can continue that with this upcoming tour of Eastern Canada," says 3 Mile Scream bassist Mike Marino. "We just recently shot a video for 'Our Blackened Sun' with director Chad Archibald (Arise and Ruin), which is currently in the final editing stages now. The shoot made us realize just how much work goes into the creating a video. It tested our limits physically having to go full tilt, take after take to get it all on film. It was a great experience, the video looks sick and we look forward sharing it with everyone."
Dear Black Diary is currently supporting their Year of the Sun Records self-titled debut. Produced by Scott Sherar, the album is a display of technical brutality and subtle emotion. The video for the band’s debut single “Life is the Number One Cause of Death” can be viewed at MySpace.
"Everyone in the Dear Black camp are super excited to get out to the East Coast and are looking forward to terrorizing the stage each night with 3 Mile Scream,” says Dear Black Diary’s Steve Ferraro. “We will also be filming this tour for our upcoming DVD that should accompany our next release so come on out and show us what you got in the pit!"

SLAGMAUR, one of the most original and mysterious of Norway's recent crop of black metallers, have released their latest album, "Svin", on Germany's Black Hate Records. "Svin", previously released as a demo, forms the first part of the "Three Protocols of Fosen Trilogy", and marks its completion. The other two parts are "Skrekk", released in 2006, and "Domfeldt", which includes a track from APTORIAN DEMON's Ghash, released earlier this year.
No one knows much about the identity of the band which, aside from its creator General Gribbsphiiser, includes Lt. Wardr on drums and Aatselgribb on vocals, and the only photos to have been made public have the members bewigged and heavily disguised. Rarely do they give interviews although they have been known to get a little heated with each other in the studio, and wreak a certain amount of havoc. The music has been described as "twisted and sinister" and defies categorizing. The band purposefully arranges the sound in a distorted audio environment, layer upon layer, in order to challenge the listener to separate the different elements that Gribbsphiiser imbeds into the compositions - the differing moods of the listener bringing different elements to the fore.
"Svin" comes in a limited edition of 1,000 copies, in a six-panel digipack and an eight-page color booklet, with Norwegian artist Robert Høyem having produced all the artwork. The first copies ordered will come with a special "church burning" matchbox as a tribute to the origins of black metal, the sound of which the band all grew up with and most admires.
Tracks from the new album, and as well as from others, can be heard on the band's web site at www.slagmaur.co
