Italian band At The Soundawn is an extremely tough band to peg down, which defaults them to genre titles that could mean anything, such as "Post Rock." The group's latest jazz and rock influenced hardcore outing "Shifting" hit stores in North America on April 27th through Lifeforce Records.
At The Soundawn's Andrea Violante shared the story behind the band's recent changes and the work they put into making "Shifting" into a single stream of sound. Andrea commented, "We would like the songs to be fluent and there should be a constant flow you follow. It’s not always easy to do it. Sometimes we have to do the sudden changes, but our aim is to do a slow composition." Andrea also went on to explain in detail the concept of the lyrics and the difficulties in playing the band's local scene. More...

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Sick Of It All vocalist Lou Koller shares a tale of midgets moshing in the pit:
We were on tour with Slayer, and it was Slayer, us, and Meshuggah in 1999. I believe it was in New Mexico. For some reason there was a real odd number we saw, a lot of Mexican midgets at the Slayer show. And they weren’t together. We were hanging out at the merch booth waiting to go on and we counted seven different Mexican midgets. When the show started, in the middle of the set, the Slayer fans in New Mexico were taking their shirts off, lighting them on fire, and then running around with them in the pit. That was one of the craziest things we’ve ever seen. So apparently midgets in New Mexico love Slayer.
Sick Of It All recently released their four years in the making album "Based On A True Story." You can check out an interview with Lou discussing the new album here.
Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

Sweden's MARIONETTE has announced that they will embark on a U.K. headlining tour in October.
Commented bassist and founding member Mikael Medin: “U.K. fans get ready for some monster shows on our headlining run this October. We took three trips to the U.K last year, each being better than the last. Those seeing us for the first time will get a proper evening with MARIONETTE. In addition to extended sets, including fan favorites from Enemies and Spite, we’ll play songs we haven’t tried out on the road in quite some time. Fans will also see that we’ve worked hard to upgrade all elements of our show. We’ll be announcing more shows in the coming weeks."
“As we wind down the touring for Enemies and begin thinking about the next MARIONETTE album, we are hoping to squeeze in a brand new song we are working on our new vocalist Alexander Andersson. He has not only proven to be an excellent growler, but has a belting clean voice that will floor you live. Get your tickets NOW and we’ll see you in the mosh pit this fall!” More...

Melodic metallers Eden’s Curse have released a digital single of their ballad “Man Against The World,” with 100% of the profits being donated towards charity. The profits will go to the two homeless charities shelter.org.uk in the U.K. and feedthechildren.org in the USA.
Songwriter Paul Logue commented, "We receive emails from our fans time and time again, but none moved me more than the one I received from Jared Hochstettler. He put together a montage on You Tube featuring some really powerful images of homeless men, women and children. It stopped me dead in my tracks and made me think about how fortunate I am. Right there and then I decided to do something about it and I’m delighted to gain the support of my band mates, record labels and Music By Mail in Germany, who assisted us with launching the track onto the worldwide portals, with a view to raising some money to help Shelter and Feed The Children. I urge everyone to simply watch the video and if you feel as moved as I did buy the download and do your bit to help ease the suffering of those less fortunate than ourselves.”

Cleveland, Ohio’s Chimaira has announced the upcoming live DVD/CD set "Coming Alive" will be released on July 20th, 2010 through Ferret Music. The band issued the following statement about the DVD's contents:
"This unprecedented release includes a four-part documentary filmed over the course of a year and a half while the entire package includes over 7 hours of exclusive content. The DVD, filmed entirely in HD, showcases Chimaira in the studio while recording the Billboard-charting, The Infection, and chronicles their recent, worldwide touring season. In summary, Coming Alive is an in-depth look into Chimaria’s life and music in the studio and on the road.
"Not only does the DVD set include this amazing documentary piece, another section, Chimaira Xmas Live Concert Film, celebrates the 10th annual Chimaira Christmas show in Cleveland, Ohio, which took place on December 30th, 2009. 13 HD cameras capture Chimaira releasing their fury for their hometown crowd on a dark and snowy night in December. Bonus features on the DVD include a 45 minute Resurrection: ‘Making of’ documentary, a 40 minute home-video footage documentary of never before seen moments, and a live CD featuring 17 tracks recorded at Chimiaira’s December 30th Christmas show."
“Metallica's A Year and a Half in the Life of...., and Live, Shit, Binge and Purge, were my bibles while growing up,” states guitarist Rob Arnold. “Watching the guys in the studio, out on the road, and backstage, taught me so much, and definitely played a major roll in shaping me into the musician I am today. After watching our new DVD set, Coming Alive, I sat back, ULTRA satisfied, and knew that this DVD would do the exact same thing for fans and musicians of today. The quality, the content, the humor, the realism, the insight, and the impact of this product, will definitely erupt onto the music community. Even the packaging is totally sick.... I can't wait to get my hands on one of the first copies, and I KNOW that you're going to love yours!”

Norwegian symphonic black metal band Dimmu Brogir has announced a collaboration with Norwegian composer Gaute Storaas in addition to the 51 members of KORK (the Norwegian Radio Orchestra) and the 38-member Schola Cantorum Choir for the band's as-yet-untitled new album. To date, over 101 musicians have lent their talents to the making of the album.
Composer Gaute Storaas shares some insight on what it’s like to work with Dimmu Borgir: "There have been several attempts of dressing up rock bands in suits, bow ties, and symphonic splendor - to various degrees of success. Working with Dimmu Borgir is quite different. Their music is epic, thematic and symphonic already from the creation; they are clearly having an orchestral approach to composing. My role in this is sometimes just to transcribe their themes, sometimes to take their ideas, tear them apart and build them back up in ways that are true to the band's intentions. The music must also be both interesting and playable for the musicians, and hopefully, meet the quality standards of the orchestral world.”
Dimmu Borgir's ninth studio album will be released in Germany on October 8th, in the rest of Europe on October 11th, and in North America on October 12th.

Work on the album is almost complete and awaiting the final stages of recording. It has taken 5 years of planning, many changes & preparations to get this far and finally we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Gyrdleah is not a full time band, so time is precious & soon the waiting game will be over."
The "Lunar Circle" track listing is as follows:
1. Living Sin Made Flesh (Intro)
2. Sin Of Heptameron
3. Dagger In Black Scabbard
4. Ninth Lower Circle Of Hell

New Hampshire black metallers Vintage Flesh have checked in with the following recording update:
"Whoa that was a rougher ride then the first! but we managed to nail two long songs one clocking at a whopping 10 minutes plus! The other just under at 9 and change. I know we did some other shit but alot of time was lost. We split the band up for almost a minute at one point. Just to give ya an idea of the tension involved. The drums are very demanding of every fiber of talent I have to offer them and that's not as much as I would like. But said and done and I am very glad for being pushed to the extreme. Note to self : don't go into the recording process with Hex knowing he is without weedies. Gotta keep that well supplied. Much more reasonable when high and drunk. End of note.
"Other then that we get off to a slow start. Our fine rec. engineer Gemini was still on the road rushing back from the Maryland Death Fest at the time we were to meet at the Opal studio. So we didn't get started till about 3:30PM. Till about 12:30Oneish in the morning! Hey I'm an old cotter and need my ugly rest. looks as nasty as mine don't fall from the sky. So to rap this up i will conclude, it looks like we have one more drum session if not two. I'm hoping one. Then I can take a break for a couple weeks and let TexHex do his things on the strings. Hopefully we wont find him hangin' from the ceiling by one of them. More later, remain a hater..."
Project: Failing Flesh has checked in with the following announcement about finishing a new album:
"Count Back From Ten mixing is complete! The album is at mastering as this is typed. Within a couple weeks we will be probably be posting some new tracks. As some may know our friends at our last label Burning Star Records have run out of money (not shocking, considering the times) and sadly had to close down the label. We are still deciding what method to take to release CBFT.
"Whether we want to take the somewhat time consuming method of dealing with a new label or just do a self release and possibly license it, or even make it available via download, or some combination of all these options. No matter the method some promos will be printed up and close friends and fans will hopefully be able to hear this thing very soon! It's been a long process but we are completely happy with the result and that is the only important thing...not time tables, labels, etc.
"Songs to appear on the release include: 01: Count Back From Ten, 02: White Light Response, 03: Inanimate Objects, 04: The Potential to..., 05: Patient Zero, 06: The Void Between Skin and Bone, 07: Percussion Fracture, 08: Irrelevant Thoughts (Prong cover), 09: Lose Lose Situation, 10: Cadence."

Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow has issued the following statement about Venomin James drummer Jared Koston seeking donations for medical expenses:
"Help a dying metal brother and his family in need please! Venomin James drummer Jared Koston, who was diagnosed several months ago with stage IV melanoma cancer and two brain tumors, has returned home to Madison, Ohio from University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio to be with his family. The doctors have given him only a few days to live.
"His wife Michele Koston is in need of financial support to help pay for the home hospice care and funeral arrangements. The Kostons have four children, no health insurance or employment. If you can spare some money.. do it. So the Kostons can at least bury their husband and father and be able to pay the bills. Yet another horrible showcase of the American way gone wrong. The poor are left to die, their families financially ruined.
"Donations can be made as follows: PayPal donations can be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org (be sure to mark "personal," then select "gift"). Cash, checks or money orders (payable to Michele Koston) can be sent to: The Koston Family, 3060 Princeton Drive, Madison, Ohio 44057 USA."

Spazmosity drummer Dimmand and Cursed 13 vocalist Heljarmadr have joined forces to form a new black metal act titled Grá. The band issued the following statement about their upcoming activity:
"Grá is a side project by Heljarmaðr (Cursed 13, Domgård, Utburðr) and Dimman (Cursed 13, Spazmosity, Svitjod). The aim is to capture the old school feeling that we miss in the black metal scene of today. 4 songs have been written and recorded recently and they will be mixed and mastered shortly for your fucking pleasure. The main thought behind the music of Grá is that it should be spontaneous and honest instead of calculated and innovative. The soundtrack to what we carry inside.
"The lyrical concept reflects the name of the band (Grá/Grå/Gray), aging, dying, dullness, the falling apart that is inevitable for all. We are, as already mentioned, almost finished with a 4 track EP. It will be released during this summer, we have not yet decided upon how and when though."
A Grá rehearsal track without vocals can be heard via the band's MySpace page.

German's Discreation has checked in with the following update about signing a record deal to release a new album:
"We have signed a deal with SAOL a new division of CMM Gmbh to release our new album 'Withstand Temptation.' Its going to be released on 25.06.2010 and will be available in record stores and through all major mp3 platforms. 'Withstand Temptation' is an evil death metal bastard impressing with merciless blast beats and catchy, epic melodies. Mixed and mastered by Jörg Uken in his Soundlodge Studios, you will get to hear a rough mix of American and European death metal.
"Take the hardship and jaded sounds of Vader, the groove of Six Feet Under, and the sense of melodies of God Dethroned plus a proper dose of individuality and sense of good songs and you will get death metal how Discreation celebrates it! Their second album appeals to variety; they don’t just floor their car but undergo a fresh cell therapy by building groovy mid-tempo parts and catchy melodies. As a guest vocalist, Discreationgot Karsten 'Jagger' Jäger on board who put the finishing touches on the song 'Set The Memories Ablaze'."
Brazilian metallers Hibria have checked in with the following update about recruiting a new bass player:
"Benhur Lima is the newest member of Hibria! Since the invitation to the audition, Benhur told us how excited he was with the possibility of joining Hibria, a band he already knew and respected since the first time he watched a concert many years ago. He learned the songs very fast and, in the audition, despite all of the expectable anxiety, he played even the most difficult parts very well. Besides being a talented and versatile bass player, he also will reinforce the backing vocals on live performances, and showed something that is fundamental for us: attitude. Immediately, we have great plans for the new CD and we trust Benhur will overcome all the new challenges. Welcome aboard!"
Benhur also commented: "It has been a great surprise when I got a call from the band inviting me to an audition. Of course I accepted immediately! I got a little worried, but damn excited! It is not a secret to anyone who has ever talked to me about Hibria it was the first band that really impressed me when I saw them live, not just musically but also because of their metal attitude on stage. When I met the guys, I realized that besides being excellent musicians, they are really cool! The vibe was the best and playing with them was wild! A true privilege, for real! It is a great honor to become part of one of the best Heavy Metal bands Brazil has ever produced, and I will do my best to be sooner than soon headbanging live with you guys!"
