Chicago's TUB RING is currently in the studio working on their followup to "The Great Filter:"
"It has been quite sometime since we've checked in, and while this will serve as a bit of news to whet your appetite for all things Tub Ring related, it's also barely scratching the tip of the iceberg. We began tracking drums at Electrical Audio (Steve Albini's joint) here in Chicago, early last week. Scott hammered out 17 tracks with class and precision, and we're looking at having around 20 songs to mix once everything is said and done. Over at Studio Edison, guitars are being tracked as I type this. Everyone is extremely excited about the sound of the new material and the direction things have been heading musically. The vibe is so positive right now, that we're still writing new songs, in between recording sessions." More...

The Project Strato website has been updated with the following information about former Stratovarius members working on a new album together:
"In 1982 Tuomo Lassila formed Stratovarius and came up with its name. Timo Tolkki and Antti Ikonen joined the band in 1984, that is some 25 years ago and as a result the group recorded such classic albums as Twilight Time, Dreamspace and Fourth Dimension. After the departure of Lassila and Ikonen in 1995 Stratovarius went to more neoclassical sound and style exploring Timo Tolkki's songwriting and producing skills earning the band a Finnish Grammy and sales exceeding over 2 million records. After Tolkki's departure from Stratovarius in the late 2007 an idea was born to get the classic Dreamspace line up together for an album. As a result the summer 2009 will be spent writing and demoing songs for a late 2009 release tentatively titeled as: 'PROJECT STRATO:RETURN TO DREAMSPACE'. This album will see Timo Tolkki handling the vocals again and the fans of the Twilight Time/Dreamspace era will surely not be disappointed."
Norwegian metallers Quadrivium have issued the following update about streaming a cover of the Arcturus track "Wintry Grey" on their MySpace page:
"We have been quiet for some time now. Its time for some news.
"First we want to tell you that we have strengthened our lineup with a new vocalist that will be sharing vocal duties with Lars. His name is Attila Bakos and he hails all the way from Hungary.
"His voice will be a powerful addition and will most certainly take us to the next level. What better way to introduce him by presenting our contribution to a Arcturus tribute cd that has been released. We covered Wintry Grey and are pretty pleased with the results. We came in late in the process and had to work fast, but its alright.
"Attila did all the vocals on this one as Lars is busy with Myrkgrav these days (the new album will be killer!) We wanted to keep it cold and we feel that we managed that.
"Check out the song on our Myspace site or check out the entire tribute cd here.
"This cover song will be our last stint in that world of music. Almost all the writing for the new album is done and it will be something new and different for sure. Still metal though! Even more than before actually!
"Until next time then, keep your antimatter safely out of the reach of children!"
