Massacre Records will release the newest album from German dirty rock 'n rollers Gun Barrel, entitled "Brace For Impact," in North America on May 22nd. The following press release was also issued:
"Since their year-2000 formation, Gun Barrel have pulverized their fans and music critics like with their uncompromising style of metallic rock and their raging on-stage attitude. Following a steady flow of releases via respected labels like SPV and Limb Music over the past decade the band signed with Germany's Massacre Records for the 2012 release of their fifth full-length studio release, Brace For Impact.
"With nearly fifty minutes of Gun Barrel's thundering approach in its holster, Brace For Impact bears eleven hard-hitting tracks, and is the first release from the band to feature new vocalist Patrick Sühl. The change in the vocal guard gave the entire band a new surge of energy, which shows trough in every song. The band recorded the album recorded in their own studio, and had it mixed by Yenz Leonhardt (Iron Savior, Savage Circus, Stormwarrior) and mastered by Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Jorn, TNT), and commissioned the cover artwork to Steve Santana (Harley Davidson, Powerwolf)."

The record is available for purchase now at iTunes, Amazon, and other digital retailers, but if you order your copy of "Spiral Empire" from Reversed Records, you will instantly receive the album as a digital download as well. For those that want to listen before they buy, the record is also available for streaming at the band’s official Soundcloud page for a limited time. The album can also be heard in the player below.
Bassist Jordan Kemp states, “In this band, we all write, contributing to each other’s ideas and hashing out riffs. Hell, we'll re-write something three or four times until we're all satisfied its 100 percent killer! That's why there's not a dull moment on this record. It sounds unique yet classic. Makes me wanna drink beer and party! Play it fuckin' LOUD!”
“This is an album that has surpassed expectation. Fuelled by beer and anger, this record is an answer to the castrated state of popular music. It is truly an exercise in dragging tradition and force into a soulless, dying music industry,” states vocalist Chris “The Heathen” Valagao.
“Listening to this album from start to finish, I'm totally stoked with the whole thing,” adds Kemp. “It's not like one of those albums that all the songs start sounding too alike. When you put it on, you'll be banging your head right through till it’s done!”
"Spiral Empire" was recorded at The Factory Studios in Vancouver and is produced by Juno Award winning engineer Rob Shallcross (Strapping Young Lad, GWAR, Zimmers Hole, Fear Factory). West of Hell is currently on the road in Canada, with upcoming dates as follows:

Antagonist A.D. has premiered the song "Violence" online from the upcoming album "Nothing From No One." Check out the song in the player below. "Nothing From No One" is set to hit stores on July 3rd through Mediaskare Records.
“The new album steps in a more personal direction than our previous releases,” stated vocalist Sam Crocker. “There are still the usual themes you can expect from Antagonist A.D. with songs about animal rights, consumerism & apathy, but where it differs is dealing with anxiety, depression – feelings of alienation. I think for me, being from a tiny town on a small isolated island at bottom of the world I really started to feel that isolation – the lyrics have been a lot more therapeutic than anything I have written before.”

The Portuguese Gothic metal masters in Moonspell have now released their latest opus "Alpha Noir" (reviewed here), which was conceived as a double album alongside the companion piece "Omega White."
Just prior to the album's release, I got in contact with front man Fernando Ribeiro and we had a candid chat about the change in direction on "Alpha Noir" from previous album "Night Eternal," as well as the four year gap between the releases. Discussing how fans have reacted to the band's music and why the group changes sound over time, Ribeiro commented, "With a band, the past is just one of your influences, and the spectrum is actually way broader. Moonspell is always provoking people to say what we did in the past was the best and that’s something we have to live with... The crowd sees from the outside and we’re seeing it from the inside, so I think we always try for every album to have a quality concept and a vision of a story to tell, and 'Alpha Noir' is another page in the book. This is a chapter in the book where the action goes a little faster and it goes to a different place, and that’s the way I see Moonspell."
Below you can find Fernando's thoughts on how European metal bands from the '90s tend to have a different outlook on music, working with new label Napalm Records, and creating the "Lickanthrope" music video. More...
Portugal's Machinergy has posted a teaser trailer online for the band's new EP. Check out the "Rhythm Between Sounds" teaser trailer below. For more info on Machinergy, head over to the band's official website here.
The band also previously commented on the EP:
"We’re on full power working on our next release 'Rhythm Between Sounds,' scheduled to be out soon. What we can say for now is that it will be a different presentation of a record. Initially, we recorded 4 new songs ('1988,' 'Machinevil,' 'Trapollution,' and 'Dynamica') for an EP but because Machinergy likes to push the envelope, 'Rhythm Between Sounds' started to evolve for something slightly different! We’re working hard on this one but we’re sure it will be welcomed by all metal maniacs, in particular the Portuguese metal crowd. Cheers and stay tunned!"
Every week we continue our ongoing quest to get the best pit stories from metal shows. This week Dying Fetus checked in with us to share the following story from the Metal Alliance tour about meeting the "chicken guy" at Sonar in Baltimore:
The Metal Alliance tour came to Baltimore at a club called Sonar. The tour had been going well and the pits were killer for our set. We all come from Maryland so playing Sonar was always a show to look forward to.

Cannibal Corpse is like a peanut butter & jelly sandwich if you think about it. I don’t mean literally, of course. The band has been around for 24 years with largely the same consistent sound. Every one of the records has been consistently outselling the one before it without the band ever selling out to be more commercially viable. The tours have been getting consistently longer due to worldwide demand. In all of these things, consistency is the staple. Cannibal Corpse has shown itself to be one of those universal constants like peanut butter & jelly, and both are widely accepted and can be mighty tasty if you’re in the mood for them.
As evidenced by the long line of black shirts seen up and down Elliston Place outside the Exit/In, Nashville, TN was having a Cannibal Corpse craving at the end of April. Fortunately for us, Cannibal Corpse just rolled into town with a few bands in tow: Exhumed, Abysmal Dawn, and Arkaik. More...
Debemur Morti Productions has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with Norway's Wallachia for the release of a new album:
"For those of you who remember the amazing French label Velvet Music International, you might be familiar with Blut Aus Nord's hitherto label-brothers Wallachia.
"Emerging from the mind of Lars Stavdal in 1992, the one-man project has released a demo and two albums since then. The latest, 'Ceremony Of Ascension' (2009), presented a pretty modern face of Wallachia and received a warm reception from fans.
"Having inked a deal with Debemur Morti Productions, Lars is currently working on the third album, 'Shunya.'"
According to Lars, "'Shunya' is a very personal and gloomy record for me, taking more inspiration from my own life and experiences rather than exterior subjects. It dives further into the melancholic sound of Wallachia and contains a lot of bleak atmosphere. At the same time, it's faster and rawer. I'm enthusiastic about the songs and about the co-operation with Debemur Morti Productions."
Recording will take place in July at Stefan Traunmüller's Soundtempel Studio, with the album set for release by the end of the year.

When Anthrax was given the choice of playing this summer's Mayhem Main Stage or the festival's Jagermeister Stage, the band opted to headline the latter, and to do something special for the crowd.
Explained Anthrax's Charlie Benante, "We decided to pattern the Mayhem set on the kind of shows The Ramones used to do: a high-energy, non-stop barrage of hit, hit, hit, hit, hit. No lulls, no filler, totally in your face. We're going to be playing a supersonic-paced set loaded with the best of our best."
"We really like the idea of not 'playing to seats,'" added Scott Ian, "and we want our crowd to have the freedom to move around, to go crazy with us. Plus, we've been on the road together now for about two years, so we're tighter as a band than we've ever been. Our Mayhem set will be a fun, fast and furious 45-minutes, so they'd better have the EMTs on hand."
The following press release was also issued: "Since vocalist Joey Belladonna rejoined the Anthrax line up a little more than a year ago, Anthrax - Belladonna/vocals, Charlie Benante/drums, Scott Ian/guitar, Rob Caggiano/guitar, and Frank Bello/bass - has made one of the most impressive comebacks in rock'n'roll. As one of The Big Four, the original architects of speed and thrash-metal, Anthrax joined Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth during the summer of 2010 on a series of Big Four shows in ten European cities, followed by a Big Four show outside of Los Angeles at the Coachella site (April 2011), and the big 'homecoming' event for the New York-born-and-bred band members at Yankee Stadium last September.
"The band released Worship Music on September 13, 2011, its first new album in eight years and the first with Belladonna on vocals in twenty years. Worship Music debuted at #12 Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, received stellar reviews that included being named one of the best albums of the year in media outlets such as Revolver, Guitar World, SPIN, Metal Assault, Metal Sucks, the UK's Classic Rock and Metal Hammer, Canada's Lithium, Lou Brutus' HardDrive, Eddie Trunk/VH1's 'That Metal Show,' and SiriusXM's Jose Mangin." American blackened metal warriors Windfaerer will unleash a new EP entitled "Solar" within the coming weeks. The self released follow-up to the band’s "Tribus" debut was recorded with Bobby Torres at Frightbox Recording in Clifton, New Jersey and will include seven tracks of violent beauty laden with elements of black and melodic death metal while exuding a folkloric edge.
Comments guitarist/bassist/vocalist Michael Gonçalves of the record: “Solar is a tribute to the intangible and to those things that make life seem so hopeless, yet beautiful. The title represents a unity of the celestial and infernal forces that govern mankind. Compared to Tribus, the lyrics have become more personal and abstract. Solar is Windfaerer being a more confident entity.”
The "Solar" track listing is as follows:
1. The Mortal Flare
2. A Glimpse of Light
3. Worlds of the Self
4. Blackened Voids
5. A Moura Encantada
6. In the Shadow of Giants

After rumors have circulated of Mikael Akerfeldt being in a car accident, the Opeth front man has now issued the following statement about being injured:
"Hi guys! I'm writing from beyond the grave. Seriously, I was not in a car crash and I haven't broken my arm. All that happened is I hit my head in mastodons tour bus as I was getting a new pair of (red) underwear out from my suitcase. Wish the story was more rock and roll, believe me.
"Anyways I split my head open down to the skullbone and had to be taken to the emergency. They gave me a bunch of shots in the wound, cleaned me up and stapled my head shut with 8 metal staples. Head is sore and if I smile it feels like the wound is gonna burst open again, but I'll be on stage by tomorrow again.
"I feel extremely disappointed that we couldn't play at the myth in Minneapolis, but paramedics told me I couldn't. We will reschedule the show for our next trip to the USA. So all rumors of me being in a car crash are false. I did crash my head into a car though, well...a bus really. Sorry for disappointing our fans in Minneapolis but I hope you understand. See you next time. Best."
