After the results of a recent study in Switzerland finding that live music is doing more damage to young people's hearing than portable devices, new regulations in Switzerland have kicked in and now concert promoters by law must warn music fans of the dangers to their hearing that loud music can have. Promoters will also have to provide a "quiet zone" if the bands play above a certain noise level. Furthermore, Switzerland is considering bringing in a noise tax, where bands that play too loudly will cop fees.

Improving upon the foundation of technical, neck-snapping death metal they helped build beginning in the late 1980s, IMMOLATION unleashes the seventh chapter in their legendary career, Shadows in the Light. The stunning new effort was recorded at Millbrook Sound Studios with producer Paul Orofino and is now available. The new video for the track, “World Agony,? was recently posted on their official MySpace page. Click the link below to check it out. www.myspace.com/immolationny
IMMOLATION will also team up with Suffocation and Skinless for a month-long North American tour this fall and see below for the complete itinerary. Returning with the same lineup as their previous release, Harnessing Ruin, dubbed “the most skull-crushing of their entire necro-rompin’ career? by Revolver Magazine, the group finds itself uncharacteristically stable, allowing for chemistry not present in their formative years. Founding members Dolan and Robert Vigna (guitar) join Bill Taylor (guitar) and Steve Shalaty (drums) to form the group’s most consistently punishing lineup yet.
Evergreen Terrace, August Burns Red, The Warriors and Casey Jones are planning a tour together for July/August, dates and venues have yet to be announced, but it is expected to be a full 2 month schedule.

A fall release date through Abacus Recordings is expected. In the meantime, tentative track titles for the effort include:
"A Place Of Solace"
"After The Smoke Clears"
"Are You Prepared To Fight"
"On The Outside Looking In"
"Same Faces, Different Places"
"Something Left To Remind Us"
"Streets Don't Lie"
"Talk Is Cheap"
"The American Way"
"Weather The Storm"
After a few mastering delays, UK based blackened sludge doom metalers, ATAVIST, have finished laying down the final touches that will define on what will go down as one of the most memorable and extreme doom metal albums to be released this year.
Entitled “II:Ruined”, this beast of Manchester have created an incredible work that will undoubtedly go down as a classic within the annals of this genre. Much like the impact bands like CORRPUTED made with their “El Mundo Frio” album, what KHANATE have done with their self-titled debut, IRON MONKEY with their “Our Problem” masterpiece, or the influential impact that BURNING WITCH had with “Crippled Lucifer”, Atavist are pretty much set to lay waste within the doom metal scene, and carve a new niche while doing so. “II:Ruined” also features guest appearances by UK folk singer Rose Kemp and ex-Iron Monkey/current-day Crippled Black Phoenix guitarist Justin Greaves. The PFL version will also feature a bonus track, namely a Grief cover of ‘I Hate The Human Race’. More...

TOOL keeps tacking shows onto its current North American tour, which now extends into mid-July. According to LiveDaily.com, the quartet has added concerts in Montreal; Boston; Portland, Maine; Fort Worth, Texas and others to its schedule. The trek, which began in late April with two nights in Las Vegas, was postponed from March after drummer Danny Carey tore his bicep in an accident at home.
The band has also booked another festival date, at Milwaukee's Summerfest, to add to its mid-June appearance at Tennessee's Bonnaroo event. Danny Carey told Launch that TOOL approaches festivals differently from its own shows. "It's this whole different vibe when you play at a festival," he said. "People have already had to go through so much, you know, especially if you're headlining. By the time you're on, you know, you don't wanna just drive them into the ground, you know. I think in those cases less is more, so we're happy just to play more rocking, straight ahead songs and not get too tedious 'cause it's not that kind of an environment. We'll save that for our own shows." More...
German power metallers PARAGON have updated their MySpace page to reveal their current lineup, which introduces the band's replacement for bassist Jan Bünning, who lef the band due to "musical differences".
The current Paragon lineup includes: Andreas Babuschkin (vocals), Martin Christian (guitars backing vox), Günny "Luigi" Kruse (guitars, backing vox), Dirk Seifert (bass), Christian Gripp (drums).
Paragon's new album, Forgotten Prophecies, will be released in June.
VADER have issued the following update:
With two shows in Holland (May 5th - Wageningen, May 6th - Dordrecht) Vader kicked off their summer touring season. The band is going to play 30 gigs, appearing on some prestigious festivals like Rock Hard Festival, Hellraiser Festival, Graspop MM Festival, Hellfest, Tuska Open Air Festival, Waldrock Festival, Kaltenbach Open Air, Wacken Open Air, Party San and Brutal Assault. The tour schedule can be found here.
Guitarist/vocalist Peter states, "We spent last weekend in Holland, playing two rather atypical shows there. The first one in Wageningen during Holland's celebrations of sovereignty (in May 1945). Great parade of the allied forces, among them a few veterans of the 1st Polish Panzer Division fighting in Belenux, about 100,000 people, 18 stages, one great party and ... Vader- the only extreme metal band in the town! We kicked off our show just before midnight, in front of thousands of metalheads hungry for carnage. What a great experience! More...
SIKTH's FORTHCOMING tour in July under the 'This Ain't The Summer Of Love' banner will be the last with singers Mikee Goodman & Justin Hill.
The decision for the frontmen to part company with the North London troupe is an entirely amicable one, with Goodman leaving to pursue other musical activities, including his longstanding Sad Season project, another brand new outfit (based in Brighton) plus work on the production side. Hill, meanwhile, is going to focus on the production work that is becoming increasingly successful for him.
The remaining four members, guitarists Dan Weller & Pin, drummer Dan 'Loord' Foord & bassist James Leach, are now well underway with the writing of the third SikTh album; already they've amassed a great deal of fresh material guaranteed to further extend the boundaries of progressive metal music. Simply, the future for SikTh continues to be an exciting one.
Needless to say, SikTh is now on the look-out for a new singer or singers, and applicants should contact the four musicians at firstname.lastname@example.org. More...
Severed have issued the following update regarding the stepping down of their vocalist on their Myspace page:
"So here's the deal. We start by asking everyone to congratulate Anthony, who in the last year has become a full fledged adult. He has his business in order, having started his career and is happy about it-and very well should be - he deserves it. For this I am proud of my brother. I remember going to him in high school outside of math class with Justin and asking him "Yo dude, wanna be in our band?", pretty much cuz he was the one of the only other kids who was into metal...who knew? Since then we've hit up other states, played with a load of national acts, and put out a bitchin cd($10 - buy it fuckers!). But that's just the beginning; a way toooo long beginning, but hey, we're learning the hard way. With that said, we are ready to take over the world, and being on the same page of the "World Domination" book is vital. Our comrade Anthony isn't going to be able to partake in said activity, for his priorities take him down the
proverbial "other path" and we obviously would not dare ask him to reconsider otherwise. So Severed will have to continue this adventure without him." More...
Australian chaotic expressionistic death metal nightmare PORTAL are currently putting the (very) finishing touches on their dreaded anticipated follow-up to “Seepia”, which will be entitled “Outre."
Their label, Profiound Lore Records states in their release: "More experimental, unconventional, atmospheric, alien, and disturbing “Outre” sees Portal going further within the pollution stage of their warped sound canvas by conjuring up their un-easiest and most challenging album yet. One in which will simply alienate Portal even more within the underground extreme music scene. With cover art by the unique artist Jeff Lowe, and plans for a special kind of package to house this new warped abomination, expect “Outre” to bring a new face of horror onto death metal."
Some song titles set to appear on “Outre”: ‘Abysmill’, ‘Heirships’, ’13 Globes’, and ‘Sourlows’. Expect “Outre” to entice sometime late September.
THREAT SIGNAL have been added to the “Tour and Loathing” tour alongside ALL THAT REMAINS, PROTEST THE HERO, BLESS THE FALLEN and THE HOLY SPRINGS DISASTER. Lead singer Jonathan Howard had this to say:
"When I first heard my band would be opening the ‘Tour and Loathing’ tour with co-headliners PROTEST THE HERO and ALL THAT REMAINS, I thought to myself ‘Wow, this is a great chance to get really drunk and hit on their female fans!’ Cause you know, Canadian girls are the hottest on the planet and these shows are gonna be packed haha! But seriously, I know for a fact we'll throw down hard on this tour and add a tasty flavor to the line up. I can’t wait to kick it with those guys, meet our fans from Western Canada for the first time, and have some fun traveling across my home country." More...
Cleveland, Ohio's Chimaira is a metal band with genuine passion for their music; they are relentless in their pursuit to make each album and show better than their last. The band has gained much recognition, touring with legendary metal icons and releasing consistently solid albums.
The band is comprised of vocalist, Mark Hunter, lead guitarist Rob Arnold, rhythm guitarist Jason Hager, bassist Jim LaMarca, drummer Andols Herrick, and Chris Spicuzza on keyboards/electronics/ samples.
Signed by Roadrunner Records in 2001, Chimaria quickly recorded their debut album Pass out of Existence. Shortly after the album release, Jason Hager found he was going to be a father and made the tough decision to leave the band; Matt DeVries took over as rhythm guitarist. During their time at Roadrunner, drummer Andols Herrick decided to leave the band, replaced by Ricky Evensand, then replaced by Kevin Talley. After signing with Ferret Records/Nuclear Blast, Andols Herrick came back to record their forth LP, entitled Resurrection-their heaviest and most musically technical album to date.
It was amazing to sit down with Matt DeVries, along with my transcriber/photographer Bradley Hulett, to present to you this hearty interview. More...

Massachusetts' ALL THAT REMAINS has been confirmed as a special guest for the July 14 Sounds of the Underground show at Sayreville, N.J.'s Starland Ballroom, following completion of the band's current tour supporting Bullet For My Valentine, a handful of one-off headlining shows, and a quick Canadian run with Protest The Hero. "We're wicked excited to be a part of this year's Sounds Of The Underground at the Starland Ballroom," frontman Phil Labonte says. "We were proud to be a part of the first US and European Sounds, opening up, so it's a huge honor to be a special guest in Jersey. Recently returning from a European headlining run with Textures and Misery Signals, ALL THAT REMAINS is already back on the road in North America, continuing to support the band's latest effort, 'The Fall of Ideals,' which saw a summer 2006 release and has since yielded the band critical praise and spots on Ozzfest 2006, Sounds of the Underground Europe, as well as tours alongside the likes of DragonForce, Killswitch Engage, and a hugely successful headlining tour earlier this year.
The band's latest video, for the track "The Air That I Breathe," will once again be aired on this week's edition of MTV2's Headbanger's Ball. Check your local listings for time and channel.
