Due to logistical problems, Norway's SUSPERIA will no longer be part of the EDGUY North American tour, which will launch on Tuesday, September 11 in Hartford, Connecticut. Replacing SUSPERIA on the bill will be Bay Area thrashers LIGHT THIS CITY. The trek will also include Canada's INTO ETERNITY.
Finnish Folk metallers KORPIKLAANI have updated their summer festival schedule with dates in Spain and Germany. On June 16th they will play the Horns Up Festival in Martorell, Spain and on August 10th they will perform at the Fun & Crust Festival in Koblenz, Germany.
The band's schedule is now as follows: More...
The tracklist of this very first SOLITUDE AETURNUS DVD entitled Hour Of Despair has been revealed and will be comprised of songs filmed and recorded live during their visit in Poland, including songs from their latest album Alone as well as from some of their previous releases (from the classic debut Into the Depths of Sorrow, from Through The Darkest Hour, Downfall, and the cult album Adagio). The DVD will also feature an interview with John Perez and Robert Lowe (also CANDLEMASS) as also Live At On the Rocks, 1992 and Live At Joe's Garage, Fall, 1987 bonus video footage.
Ipecac Recordings will be releasing the latest effort from industrial masters The Young Gods. Here is the announcement:
"Of course we take great pride in all of the bands we work with, however, once in awhile you get the chance to work with a true music innovator. The Young Gods are hall of famers for sure!!! The Swiss industrial band has been around for 20 years, and while longevity does not always equate to quality, we are thrilled to present to you the latest full length release from TYG, "Super Ready/Fragmente". This is certain to go down as one of their classic releases. The combination of beautiful atmospheres with grinding/blasting squalls of sound make this one a keeper. There is a reason that bands like Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM and even David Bowie have cited The Young Gods as an influence. Embraced by fans of rock, metal, dance, electronic, ambient, techno, industrial & goth, whether singing in French or English, The Young Gods are still relevant today as they were 20 years ago."
After reportedly partingwith Carnal Records late last year, ARCKANUM will be releasing their fourth album, entitled "Antikosmos" through Carnal Records. The album will be recorded during the summer of 2007 and a release date will be announced during that time.
The band comments:
"After huge delays of the full length "Faunaz Samgang", ARCKANUM decided to re-write the album and re-title it to "ANTIKOSMOS". All the years which passed by I, Shamaatae, developed in a great amount personally and black magically, and by that ARCKANUM developed with me. And when I went through the material and concept of the lyrics I felt at once that this did not represent me or ARCKANUM anymore."
"So I took the initiative to re-write the lyrics, which ended up reflecting my worship of the anti-cosmic thursian powers of the Old Norse religion, and my workings of the dark runes. I have re-written about half of the music, because I felt I could improve it, so I did."
The album will have eleven new and unreleased songs. And the album will as usual be released as a high quality CD and LP: Full of illustrations and black magical formulae. The LP version will have gatefold-cover and thick vinyl. There will also be some surprises along with the promotion of the album, so be sure to look for it on the websites of ARCKANUM and Carnal Records.
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE will release new digital single 'The Arms Of Sorrow' on June 4 to coincide with their main stage performance at the Download Festival on June 10. Taken from latest album 'As Daylight Dies', the band recently premiered the new video for the track exclusively on MySpace. Watch it here.
Following guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz's back surgery in January, requiring some months of recovery, Killswitch Engage regret that he will not be joining them at Download this year. Instead, they will perform with Pat Lachman (Damageplan) joining them on guitar. Lachman has been filling in with KsE in the USA and the band are delighted he is able to help them out in the UK as well. He will also play guitar at their make-up Bristol Academy show (support: Sanctity) on June 6 and at Belfast's Balmoral Hall on June 8 (with Machine Head/Chimaira).
Adam D sends this note: "Hey guys. I'm pretty bummed that I won't be able to make it across the pond and indulge in the fine brews and meat sandwiches of Europe this summer. Though I'm feeling tons better I really need to get further rest, drink more protein shakes, and flex in the mirror while listening to Night Rangers' greatest hits. I need to be in top form for the Warped Tour here in late June. I'll definitely be seeing you guys on the next run though! Much love and God bless!"
In other KSE news, bassist Mike D'Antonio's signature model recently went on sale from Ibanez. Mike says: "I wanted to base my signature model after one of my favorite basses: the SRX700. My only requirement was that it needed to look even tougher and more metal (than your ma's kettle). The MDB has a simplified control layout I prefer, the great SRX pickups, and a customized graphic I designed. The bass is HUGE sounding, comfortable to play, and looks killer. What more could you want?"
ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY has posted their cover of the WHITESNAKE classic, "In the Still of the Night," exclusively via their MySpace page.
ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY fans who caught the band on their recent tour, probably witnessed ATP perfectly execute this rock standard in the live setting. This cover song is also featured as the bonus track on the Japanese pressing of ATP's incredible new album, Open Fire.
Open Fire was released internationally this past March and is the first ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY record to feature new vocalist Kyle Thomas (ex-EXHORDER / FLOODGATE). An e-card previewing the album can be viewed here .
Band Drummer Bryan Cox states, "Still of the night is a killer song by A legendary band, and we had a BLAST recording it. Check this thing out And raise a beer to Whitesnake!!"
As previously confirmed by Through The Eyes of the Dead, Nate Johnson, also bassist for The_Network, joined the band after the departure of Anthony Gunnells. Nate has now announced his departure from The_Network as a result of his commitments. Cannae bassist, Shane Frisby, has taken over his duties for the Gaza tour and New England Metal Fest. The_Network will announce a new permanent bassist soon.
The_Network has posted a new mp3 on their MySpace page. The new track, "Prison Letters," features guest vocals by Guy Kozowyk (The Red Chord), Ryan McKenney (Trap Them, Backstabbers, Inc.) and Adam Dulong (Cannae).
Metal Blade recording artists The Ocean have issued an update on their recording progress:
"All the drums and most of the guitars for our new album have been recorded. We just got back from a barn in remote Northern Finland, where Torge, Matt and Robin spent the last 3 weeks in complete isolation, recording in shifts, day and night… we are extremely satisfied with the result thus far, and we can assure you that our new album will get closer than ever before to capturing our real sound. Even without much editing, the drums sound huge!"
"Still a long way to go though. The next months will be spent recordings more guitars, bass, vocals, cellos, piano and other instruments. We’re also working on an artwork concept."
As previously reported, the band is also seeking a new bass player. Interested parties should read up and contact them via their website.
GuitarWorld.com has learned that former QUIET RIOT singer Kevin DuBrow has refused to participate in an upcoming documentary about his former friend and QUIET RIOT bandmate Randy Rhoads.
DuBrow had originally agreed to be interviewed for the as-yet-untitled Rhoads film, according to director Peter Margolis, and even provided private photos and videos.
"Four days after this great conversation in which he was enthusiastic and funny, I get this e-mail that was almost like a form letter," Margolis tells Guitar World magazine. "And it reads, 'Thank you for offering to have me in the movie, but I am going to have to decline to participate. I wish you and the Rhoads family the best of luck.' It was so impersonal. I really don't know what made him change his mind."
With the blessings of the family of late OZZY OSBOURNE / QUIET RIOT guitarist Randy Rhoads, Dakota Pictures and director Peter Margolis began filming the "Randy Rhoads Documentary" on March 19 at the Mountain View Cemetery. In hopes to fully capture the significance of the 25th anniversary of Randy's passing, the filmmakers interviewed as many of Randy's fans as possible.
For more information, visit the film's MySpace page.
In 1982, Rhoads, the then-lead guitarist for OZZY OSBOURNE, and two others were killed at Flying Baron Estates, just outside Leesburg, Florida, when their small plane struck Osbourne's tour bus, then crashed into a mansion.
Chicago based HURTLOCKER have entered Studio One with producer Chris Djuricic to record the follow-up to Fear In A Handful Of Dust. Vocalist Grant Belcher has issued the following statement:
"We have lengthier songs and more solos, but don't worry, it's gonna stay fucking heavy. We've got more blastbeats, more aggression, some grind parts and a shitload of extreme thrash - definetely no ballads or cheesy stuff!"
The new album will be called Embrace The Fall. It will be released through Napalm Records but a date has yet to be determined.
Norwegian black metal band TRELLDOM featuring GORGOROTH singer Gaahl on vocals has signed to Regain Records.
TRELLDOM was started in Sunnfjord by Gaahl in 92. After recording the demo "Disappearing of the Burning Moon", the full length "Til Evighet..." was released the year after in 95. The current line-up for the ten last years has been Gaahl, Sir and Valgard who recorded "Til Et Annet..." in 98 and now "Til Minne..."
The new album "Til Minne..." is scheduled for release on May 28th.
Vocalist Maurizio Iacono of the Canadian death metallers KATAKLYSM has issued the following update:
"Here we are, almost half way through the 'Invaluable Darkness' tour and the fans' reception to KATAKLYSM has been nothing short of astonishing. Opening a tour like this is a big task for any band and on top of it, being the band on the bill with the least recognition and the only band that hasn't been on Ozzfest and tours of the like makes our job ten times harder... BUT my friends, let me tell you something — it's been the fucking opposite! Every show we came ready and determined with no expectations, so we went on and the place was full and the people were loud. They are ready for us, singing our lyrics, pounding their fists in the air and creating some of the biggest mosh pits we have ever seen in North America for KATAKLYSM. We've had several promoters coming to thank us after the show, impressed with the reactions, etc. 'Havent seen anything like it for an opening act in a very long, long time' type comments. It's really overwhelming for us and our answer to them is this: thank the fans for coming early and supporting us, thank them for making this show so great for all of us. The fans have all the power, they are the voice, not the industry. We serve the fans.
"Thank you for supporting the underdog, we love it!!!
"OK, now let's talk about the band responsible that gave KATAKLYSM the chance in the first place: DIMMU BORGIR.
"They have been phenomenal. They set a real dark ambiance and the expectation is met. I enjoy watching them every night, DEVILDRIVER and UNEARTH have also been giving 100% kicking ass and doing very good. We are getting along with everyone on the tour... and YES, for all those who are wondering, we are also sharing a bus with DEVILDRIVER, It was either gonna be the end of the world or we would respect each other and make it work. They extended their hand to us, and if I may say so myself, it's been all good. The boys have had nothing but respect for KATAKLYSM and we're having fun with them.
"Well that's it for now. Memorable, memorable... words that come to my mind. Everyone come early, don't miss out on KATAKLYSM's devastation... Be there and say hello if you see us in the crowd, we wanna meet with you."
KATAKLYSM recently decided to "immortalize" the character that was featured on the cover of their most recent album, "In the Arms of Devastation," and have him re-appear as the main character — dubbed "The Heartbeast" — on their next offering.
Commented KATAKLYSM vocalist Maurizio Iacono: "We had so [much] killer feedback on the artwork but especially on the character that we decided to keep him as the band's fifth band member... kinda like IRON MAIDEN did with 'Eddie.' We have the perfect concept for the next album art... it will be bad-ass!"
One year after the official release of their debut album, "I Am Satanochio", the masked sick devils from Romania SATANOCHIO are back! Their first DVD, "Dark Visions from the Fog" will be out in June. The disc contains SATANOCHIO's nine official videos, rare uncut scenes and the first video interview with the band, based only on fan-submitted questions! The DVD cover and the menu are said to be "really special," and are based on a unique concept and tehnique, created by the international artist Costin Chioreanu (CENTINEX, ABSU, DEMONICAL, SUMMONING).
For more information, visit their Myspace page.
BLACK MARKET HERO, the band featuring members of FLAW and 40 BELOW SUMMER, has posted new music on its MySpace page. Swedish black metallers MARDUK have commented on the cancellation of their "Excess of Evil" European tour — which was also scheduled to feature KEEP OF KALESSIN, ENSLAVED, GOATWHORE, MELECHESH and PANTHEON I.
In a posting on the group's web site, MARDUK writes, "MARDUK's European tour together with, among others, ENSLAVED and KEEP OF KALESSIN, is cancelled. The booking agency Metallysee have once again showed their true face and screwed everything up. The band nor their management or any of the other bands involved have been informed about whats going on. Then news reached the band from other sources. It seems that all the tours that Metallysse have booked are cancelled.
"MARDUK will change booking agency and have a full European tour booked for later this year. More news regarding that and tour plans for other parts of the world will be presented within the nearest days."
Finnish metallers NORTHER will play two shows in Russia in November. Special guests will be DARZAMAT from Poland and ILLNATH from Denmark. The details are as follows:

Swedish metallers EVENTIDE have issued the following update:
"As we stated earlier, our record label, Cartel Media, is no more. While searching for a suitable label we have pressed 200 copies of the album. This enables us to keep the costs down so you can buy the album a little cheaper than before. Visit our Store to get your own fantastic copy of the masterpiece!
A huge thanks to the people who attended the show in Eskilstuna. A special thanks to 'Täby Rockers' for painting our name all over their car with shoe polish! Big thanks to the crew at Club Hate for making it a pleasant evening!
What else is happening with Eventide? We've started writing new material and that is what we'll focus on the coming months. The plan is to record a promotion CD this summer with three or four new songs."
Swedish metallers CONSTRUCDEAD will enter the studio in June to begin recording their fourth album. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Cataclysm", "Transfixed", "My Haven", "Tragic Kingdom", "A Godess Breaches Through Me", "Spiritual Shift", "The One Beside Me" and "No Exit".
The band previously stated about the new material, "I think that there will be something for everyone on this album. Most of the material though, is very fast, heavy and hard. But we managed to squeeze in a few melodies here and there as well. I can guarantee some serious blasting!!!"
CONSTRUCDEAD recently parted ways with drummer Erik Thyselius (TERROR 2000) and bassist Viktor Hemgren. No reason was given for their departures.
CONSTRUCDEAD's third album, "The Grand Machinery", was released in September 2005 via Black Lodge Records. The CD was recorded at Fear and Loathing Studio (co-owned by CLAWFINGER and MESHUGGAH) with producer Jocke Skog.

Italian folk metallers ELVENKING have issued the following update:
"The gig that should've taken place in Perugia, May 26th, has been canceled for reasons that affected the venue which had to host the event. The gig will most probably be postponed to September, at the same venue, but nothing's confirmed yet. Keep on visiting these pages for news."
Elvenking recently finished recording their new album and are in Helsinki, Finland mixing at Sonic Pump Studios. Swedish heavy metal legend Mike Wead (KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO MORI, FIREGOD, ABSTRAKT ALGEBRA, CANDLEMASS) will guest on Elvenking's as-yet-untitled new album, to be released this fall.
Could this year's Ozzfest be the end of the road for Ozzy Osbourne? The 58-year-old metal legend says it's entirely possible.
"At my age, I don't know how many more of these tours I have left in me," Osbourne tells Guitar World magazine. "This could be the last one."
Osbourne founded the annual summer metal festival in 1996, and it has since grown to become one of the largest and most popular tours.
Although the singer stated in 2006 that he would no longer make regular appearances at Ozzfest, he announced in February 2007 that he would headline this year's tour. "I owe my audience something," he says. "I owe them everything."
But he admits the pressures of the festival are taking a toll on him. "It's a hell of a lot of responsibility for me. If I get sick or if my voice gets blown out or whatever the fuck happens, and I can't make a show, the audience gets pretty fucking mad."
The Montreal-based deathcore six-piece DESPISED ICON recently completed a video for the track "In the Arms of Perdition" with director Jean-Philippe Bernier. This clip, which is a performance-based offering that emphasizes the band's frantic live intensity, has just been posted to the band's MySpace page.
DESPISED ICON's new album, "The Ills of Modern Man", is scheduled for a May 22 release. The disc was recorded with acclaimed producer/former guitarist Yannick St-Amand (BENEATH THE MASSACRE, ION DISSONANCE, NEURAXIS) and mixed by the renowned Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, MEGADETH).

West Virginia's forward-thinking thrashers BYZANTINE have completed tracking for the band's forthcoming record, "Oblivion Beckons", which will see a September release through Prosthetic Records.
"Well, after 4 months of holing ourselves up in the studio at 101 Productions, only taking a break to hit the road with GOD FORBID on the Chains of Humanity tour, we have finally finished recording the tracks for our third album, 'Oblivion Beckons'," frontman OJ Ojeda says. "I finished my last vocal track last night and I am happy as hell with the sounds we have going and the ideas we came up with this time around. We took a couple different paths on this one, stripping down some things like the vocals for a more aggressive style and then going out on a limb on some other things we have never tried before. This album is more varied than anything we have done prior and, clocking in at around an hour, should have more than enough metal for all our friends and fans. This week, [drummer] Wolfe, Aaron [Fischer, producer] and myself will trek up to Baltimore, Md. to Drew Mazurek's studio and mix this beast. Look out for a September release."
Song listing for "Oblivion Beckons" (in alphabetical order):
01. Absolute Horizon
02. All Hail the Endtimes
03. A Residual Haunting
06. Deep End of Nothing
07. Expansion and Collapse (Renavatio)
09. Oblivion Beckons
10. Pattern Recognition
11. Receiving End of Murder
12. The Gift of Discernment
"Oblivion Beckons" is the follow-up to 2005's "...And They Shall Take Up Serpents", which received critical acclaim for progressive song structures and thrash-oriented musicianship. BYZANTINE released the band's debut DVD, "Salvation", last month and features the exclusive unveiling of "Cradle Song", a never-before recorded track from early in the band's career. Only available on the DVD, "Cradle Song" will not appear on the forthcoming "Oblivion Beckons", and rounds out the DVD's tracking which also includes a live performance film, bootleg performances, behind the scenes footage, interviews and the music video for "Jeremiad", a track from "...And They Shall Take Up Serpents".
Progressive metallers SYMPHONY X will release their new album, "Paradise Lost", on June 26 via Inside Out Music. The CD was mixed by Jens Bogren (OPETH, SOILWORK, AMON AMARTH) at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden.

SOULFLY entered a Los Angeles studio in March with producer Logan Mader (ex-MACHINE HEAD, SOULFLY) to record a cover of the MARILYN MANSON song "Beautiful People" for an upcoming Kerrang! magazine compilation.

Ali "The Metallian" of the Metallian webzine recently conducted an interview with former CRYPTOPSY frontman Lord Worm (a.k.a. Dan Greening) about his departure from the group. A few excerpts follow:
Metallian: Can you explain why you are no longer in CRYPTOPSY?
Lord Worm: Pretty much because every time we went out on the road for any stretch of time I ended up catching something and killing my health. It gets worse as time goes on. It is better for my health and better for CRYPTOPSY if I leave now.
Metallian: Are you referring to something as common as flu, or something more serious?
Lord Worm: No, I have been known to come home with pneumonia, sometimes double.
Metallian: Your departure, in other words, has nothing to do with the band's music or any band member.
Lord Worm: Pretty much. The body breaks down and you have to make room for someone younger who might not have health issues.
Metallian: Having said that older musicians, let's use Lemmy as an example, seem to be continuing without a problem.
Lord Worm: Yeah, but Lemmy doesn't do what I do. That's the thing. There is certain amount of extreme activity that Lemmy no longer has to engage in - if he ever did. This includes carrying our own gear and the activity on stage. Lemmy basically stands. I don't. It takes a lot out of your lungs.
Metallian: Were you completely happy with the last album you made with CRYPTOPSY, "Once Was Not"?
Lord Worm: I wouldn't say happy; I would say satisfied with the job done. The music was already written by the time I came back into the band. I really had no saying in arrangements or specific riffs. I was given an assignment to write the lyrics and arrange them for this music. I did that. In that sense, I am satisfied that I did the job as well as I could with the constraints I was given. I am into extreme hate-filled black metal. Anything that approaches that I approve of. The more diametrically opposed to that the music is, though I might appreciate the talent behind it, it won't be the type of thing I would listen to. CRYPTOPSY has never been a band I would listen to. I appreciate the effort that would go into it, but it is not something that would go into the CD player unlike, let's say, DEATHSPELL OMEGA.
Metallian: Your statements thus far contradict CRYPTOPSY's assertion that you were booted from the band?
Lord Worm: Interesting.
Metallian: How do you reconcile the two versions?
Lord Worm: I have not really read what is being said. Interesting. When Flo and I discussed this we agreed that we might as well do it now. It is the right time to get someone in the band because CRYPTOPSY is in the writing period. We agreed that whoever the new guy might be should get used to everyone else in the band and the way the band works. Then eventually when the touring starts again the new singer would not only have the new material under his belt, but also get some of the older material under his belt as well. I haven't actually spoken to Alex since we came back from Ontario two weeks ago. I will probably talk to him this week. It doesn't bother me. Either way, I am gone. It doesn't bother me.

Locked In A Vacancy vocalist Dyami Bryant has left the group following a personal health crisis. As a result, the remaining members of the New York City metal/hardcore outfit will start a new band.
Here's the official word from the band:
"On the morning of April 7th Dyami Bryant, vocalist for Locked In A Vacancy, was rushed to a hospital in NYC after having severe stomach pains for over 6 hours. He was eventually diagnosed as having a serious gastro-intestinal condition, and after numerous tests underwent surgery 3 days later. With Dyami recuperating in the hospital the band was forced to cancel their string of shows with The Breathing Process, as well as a few shows in late April/early May that we had really been looking forward to playing. After about 2 and a half weeks in the hospital and a few days with family, Dyami finally returned home earlier this week to finish recuperating at home. Unfortunately, this sudden illness affected Dyami pretty deeply physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and he now feels lead to step down from his position as the vocalist for Locked In A Vacancy.
"We as a band don't believe we can go on as Locked In A Vacancy without him. He was an enormous part of this band and we feel nobody could properly replace him. His writing and singing we feel are a huge part of what made us LIAV. We all hope that Dyami gets well soon, and we wish him the best! There will more than likely be a final show or string of shows with Dyami singing once he’s fully recovered from his weakened state and 100% better – we’ll keep you posted! The remaining members of LIAV will continue on under a different name. We were already working on new material that will more than likely end up being used in the new project. We are currently seeking a new vocalist for this project - interested parties can contact us via our Myspace page."
Dead To Fall and Stick To Your Guns will hook up for a brief Canadian tour in early-June. Here are the tour dates:
6/04 Quebec City, QC @ Cafe Etudiant
6/05 Montreal, QC @ L'Inco
6/06 Ottawa, ON @ Maverick's
6/07 Oshawa, ON @ The Dungeon
6/08 Burlington, ON @ The Formac
Cult heavy rockers TYPE O NEGATIVE won't last another decade, according to keyboard player JOSH SILVER.
When asked if he saw himself onstage playing Type O Negative hits in 10 years, in a recent www.Blasting-Zone.com interview, Silver joked that at least two of his bandmates would be dead by then.
He said, "Ten years? Are you serious? I'll be 54. There's no f**king way.
"Type O isn't gonna survive for 27 years. I don't even think Led Zeppelin did.
"Ten years? Dude, certainly a portion of us will be dead by then, literally.
I certainly don't see 10 more years. That's not realistic.
"That said, if you would have asked me 10 years ago if I would still be doing this, I would (have) said no, too." And Silver admits he wouldn't be devastated if the group quit touring tomorrow.
He added, "I love the music. I love being in the studio and I love making records, and I even love doing shows, but I hate the travelling. All of that shit sucks."
HeavyMetalSource.com conducted a video interview with Phil Labonte of ALL THAT REMAINS last night (Saturday, May 5) at The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. Watch the footage online at YouTube: Part#1, Part#2.
ALL THAT REMAINS is continuing to support its latest release, "The Fall of Ideals", which came out last summer and led to stints on Sounds of the Underground 2006 in Europe, Ozzfest 2006, and tours with DRAGONFORCE and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE.
NovoMetro.com reports: Back in December, Oakland offered free GUNS N' ROSES tickets to anyone who turned in a gun to the police. At the time, people wondered how popular an incentive Axl and the gang would be to Oakland's gun-toting population. Now we have the answer: not very.
Over two days, in two locations, the gun exchange program netted 67 guns, according to a report from the Chief of Police, Wayne Tucker. It sounds like a failure, but at least the firearms were functional. A gun-for-a-computer swap in 1999 brought in 200 guns — 200 "old, rusted, inoperable" guns.
And the city didn't run out of GUNS N' ROSES tickets. In 1999, the city didn't have enough computers, and gave out vouchers. But Oakland couldn't get more computers, and those vouchers could never be redeemed, which, as the chief says, "understandably, created distrust and apprehension about future programs."
