IMMOLATION have announced a headlining show on August 9th at Jaxx in Springfield, VA. Also performing will be SKINLESS.
Finnish melodic death/doom metallers SWALLOW THE SUN have signed a new deal with Spinefarm Records. "[Spinefarm] being one of the most respected metal labels in Finland, we are looking forward to working with them," the band write on their web site.
It seems that Cold frontman Scooter Ward has had a change of heart about disbanding his group. In a posting to his MySpace page, Ward said that while he'd announced back in late February that the band was finished, "Cold will take a break" as he continues work on his latest project, the Witch, which also features Cold drummer Sam McCandless. "Cold will be back soon," Ward wrote. "This, for me, is the best of both worlds. The more music, the better."
Scooter Ward made a lengthy statement early this year and announced that the band was calling it a day after disappointing sales performance of the band's fourth album, "A Different Kind of Pain."
Tapping the Vein are almost done with their new album. The drum, bass and guitar tracks are all finished, and singer Heather Thompson plans to wrap up her vocal tracks this week. "It's sounding much heavier and dark, à la Katatonia," said drummer Eric Fisher of the record. "Less programming, much more band." The yet-untitled disc — the follow-up to 2002's The Damage — should be out by the end of the year.
Billboard.com reports: Hetfield admits the process of making an album while sober is "very different because there is a lot more awareness of what we are doing and sometimes over-thinking it. Now we are very present for it all and I'm not afraid to do or try anything musically."
But he says the current project, which is being produced by Rick Rubin, is "going great because everyone is present and everyone is enjoying the process. The process is a lot easier. [Drummer] Lars [Ulrich] and I would butt heads daily. It would be going to war every day. You'd suit up in your armor before you go in the studio. Battling back and forth. Now it's helping each other do the best of their ability. It's all moving toward the same goal instead of pulling back."

In a post on his Web site, producer Kevin Shirley (H.I.M., Judas Priest) said Iron Maiden will finish recording their yet-untitled, forthcoming album this week. "The last song for the record is on the console — we still have some keyboard washes to add, and then I'll finish up the mix," he wrote. "Yesterday we recorded umpteen guitar tweedles, ably executed by [guitarist] Janick [Gers], in four-part harmony, which led me to believe that if there is a hell, [Queen] guitarist Brian May will be the gatekeeper."
Stone Sour have confirmed that their second album - scheduled for release through Roadrunner on August 22nd - will indeed be named Come What(ever) May.
A video for the song "30/30-150" was just shot in Los Angeles with director Paul Brown (Motley Crue, Otep), and a photo shoot with Chapman Baehler (Velvet Revolver, Audioslave) has also been completed.
The band now plans to rehearse for the next couple of weeks, then shoot a video for the song "Through Glass," after which they will begin a European tour at the Rock Am Ring Festival on June 2nd.
In the meantime, whet your appetite with the band-made studio clip featuring another brand new song, "Reborn," as musical backdrop.
Long-running U.K. extreme metallers BENEDICTION have made the following announcement:
"BENEDICTION have had to put all rehearsing/recording/playing live on hold for a few months due to drummer Nick Barker [ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR] breaking his ankle after an 'incident' in Estonia!!! It needed plates and screws to keep it all together and seeing as Nick is a bit of a big lad, the doctors have strongly recommended that he sits on his arse for at least six weeks before putting any pressure on it. In the meantime, the rest of the band will take full advantage of this quality time and go out and drink heavily until Nick is ready to rejoin the band back in their Birmingham studio."
BENEDICTION's new album, "Killing Music", will be released via Nuclear Blast Records, with whom the band recently re-signed. The CD will mark the recording debut with the group of Barker, who was most recently a member of BRUJERIA and who played with ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares in the short-lived DRIVEN BY SUFFERING (working name).

Finland's FINNTROLL have posted the following message on their official web site:
"Yes, FINNTROLL shall molest Europe throughout the summer at various festivals like: Wacken, Summer Breeze, Sauna Open Air (only show in Finland this year) and few others. We have a replacement for [vocalist] Wilska and we are very anxious to introduce this new face to you all...so don't worry. We will release OFFICIAL statement about this matter when we feel the time is RIGHT, so little patience please. At the moment things are quite hectic over here as we are working on new album, which will be (hopefully) released early next year."
FINNTROLL have secured the services of TWILIGHT MOON frontman Mathias Lillm?ns as the group's new lead singer. Lillm?ns is reportedly 23 years old, and like FINNTROLL's original vocalist, Katla Mathias, is Fenno-Swedish, with Swedish as his mother tongue.
FINNTROLL parted ways with frontman Tapio Wilska (SETHIAN, WIZZARD, former session vocalist for NIGHTWISH) in January after "reach[ing] a situation in which we [found] it impossible to continue FINNTROLL" with their previous vocalist, according to a statement issued by the group a short time after the split.
FINNTROLL in January completed a short North American tour with German thrashers SODOM. The band's next live appearance is scheduled for June 4 at the Rock Hard Festival in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
NY's Mucopus have recruited Adam Mason (Goratory, Sexcrement) to fill in for Mucopus vocalist Jason Keyser for their upcoming European tour this fall. Here is a statement from founding guitarist Justin Knipper:
"Jason will not be able to do the Mucopus tour this fall due to prior commitments he made to his other band Skinless. They have a brand new cd coming out June 13th through Relapse Records and have some domestic tours lined up for around the time we have our European tour. We've known Adam for years and felt as though he was the best candidate to fill in because of his insane vocal range and stage presence and the fact we're already all friends. We're really excited about this tour and we're looking forward to finishing up our new material we've written with Jason towards the end of the year."

Across Tundras have completed work on their upcoming album, titled "Dark Songs Of The Prairie." The full-length clocks in at 53 minutes and features the following track listing:
1. Ramblin' In Shadows
2. If God Cuts You Down
3. Western Wind
4. The Old Sexton
5. Ode to George, Parts 1 & 2
6. Dark Flower Of the Prairie
7. Cosmic Retribution
8. Aura Lea, Maid Of Golden Hair
According to the band, "We rented a bunch of ridiculous vintage Neve gear (like the Beatles @ Abbey Road) to do the final mixdowns. The sounds and songs captured have a beautiful timeless quality like our favorite records of old, mixed with the Tundras brand of glacier melting, mind bending rock and roll. We doubt you have ever heard anything quite like this."
The effort is tentatively scheduled for an August 22nd release through Crucial Blast Records.
LACUNA COIL will be featured guests on Jimmy Kimmel Live next Tuesday, May 9th, which will be the group's first U.S. late night television appearance. This is also the first nationally broadcast performance for any Century Media artist. LACUNA COIL will be performing a special set on the show's outdoor stage. Jimmy Kimmel Live features celebrity guests and "cutting edge bands," with plenty of surprises, panic, and general pandemonium. LACUNA COIL is expected to play anywhere from two to four songs.
On June 13th, metal titans SHADOWS FALL return with their much-anticipated new release, Fallout From The War. The record's sessions were again produced and mixed by long-time friend, Zeuss (Hatebreed, God Forbid), at Planet Z Studios in the band's home state of Massachusetts. Fallout From The War is a must-have for the band's dedicated following as each of the album's eleven tracks is either a brand-new, original SHADOWS FALL track, an exclusive, brand-new cover song, or a newly re-recorded version of rare material from over the years.
New York metal band GREY SKIES FALLEN has begun pre-production for their fourth full-length album. Tentatively self-titled, this album will be an eclectic mix of styles from all three of their prior records; this time with an emphasis on the heavier elements. Demoing of select songs will commence early summer, allowing the band to debut these tracks on their MySpace page before recording the album.
GREY SKIES FALLEN owns and operates their own label, Xanthros Music. However, without the backing of a "real" record label, the band is limited in terms of traveling for tours due to financial constraints. The band hopes that the recent release of "Two Way Mirror", combined with the brand new demo songs, will open some eyes of record labels.
GREY SKIES FALLEN continues to play shows in the New York City area, with their next show falling on May 11 at the legendary Continental in Manhattan . This show will be the first one to feature new bassist Mary Saragoussi. Mary replaces longtime bassist Jimmy White who recently parted ways with the band after six years of tireless service. Jimmy will continue to assist the band with the recording of the demo tracks in his home studio.
Milwaukee, WI's metalcore act MISERY SIGNALS have just entered the studio for a month-long recording session for their second full-length album, "Mirrors", to be released this fall. Working with producer Ben Schigel (CHIMAIRA, ZAO), the group is recording twelve new songs at his studio in Cleveland. Speaking on the new material, Ryan Morgan (guitars) says, "It is our heaviest material but more atmospheric than our first album. There is more of a focus on heaviness as a vibe than the jumpiness of our old songs which shifted quite a bit."
Besides exploration of new sounds, this album also features new vocalist Karl Schubach. Prior to joining MISERY SIGNALS, Schubach — who hails from Canada — had only played guitars in bands and never tried to be a vocalist. "I am a huge MISERY SIGNALS fan," Schubach says. "When the band released an mp3 without vocals for auditions, I downloaded it just to hear the song without vocals. Having my own studio in my basement, it wasn't a big deal to put my vocals on it just for fun. I played it for a few friends expecting a big laugh and they convinced me that I should send this to the band." The band was so impressed that Schubach was asked to fly to the band's rehearsal space in Milwaukee, where he was asked to join.
"People who are nervous about a change in vocalist or who think we are gonna get a clean-voiced singer can relax," Morgan says. "Karl has a monstrous voice perfect for what our fans have enjoyed from the band in the past." Morgan is also quick to reassure the fans that their identifiable and introspective lyrics are also secure. "A lot of people don't realize I wrote a good deal of the lyrics on our old songs. I'm still on the case." Speaking on the significance of the album's title ("Mirrors"), Morgan explains, "A lot of the songs ask questions about self and how people perceive themselves and the images that they present to others."
MISERY SIGNALS are preparing for their first national headlining tour this summer. Following that is an appearance on the Smart Punk stage on the Warped Tour. The rest of the summer will see the band as main support for DARKEST HOUR on their Canadian and U.S. dates leading up to the release of "Mirrors" via Ferret Music.
Old-school thrashers SPEED\KILL/HATE have tapped PRONG bassist Mike Longworth for their upcoming Metal Crusaders Tour, which is scheduled to begin May 26 in Montreal, Quebec. Longworth will be filling in for regular SPEED\KILL/HATE bassist Derek Tailer, who is unable to do the tour due to "personal reasons." Drumming duties on the tour will be handled by former SINDROME skinsman Tony Ochoa, who has now been named a "full-time member" of the group.
In addition to SPEED\KILL/HATE, Metal Crusaders Tour will feature performances by VADER, KATAKLYSM, DESTRUCTION, GRAVEWORM and THE ABSENCE.
SPEED\KILL/HATE recently signed a deal with Escapi Music. The band's debut album, "Acts of Insanity", which is scheduled for release in the U.S. on June 6, features current OVERKILL axeman Dave Linsk and Mario Frasca on vocals (of note, OVERKILL drummer Tim Mallare and OVERKILL guitarist Derek Tailer play on the album as well).
"Acts of Insanity" was originally released in Europe in February 2005 via Listenable Records. A video for the song "Face the Pain" was filmed on April 6, 2005 with director Anthony M. Bongiovi of TBJ Entertainment, Inc., who has previously worked with SLAYER ("War at the Warfield" DVD), MARILYN MANSON ("Guns, God & Government" DVD), AC/DC and GODSMACK, among others.

Finally, Abysmal Dawn will be touring this Fall alongside Six Feet Under, Krisiun, Decapitated and Cattle Decapitation. "We feel very honored to be playing alongside such other prestigious bands all over the United States. We go on first every night so be sure to get there early!
