Gridiron Records has announced San Diego, CA based quintet UNSET as the latest signing to the label's blooming roster, that also includes The Hairbrain Scheme and Invitro.
"We are all excited to be a part of the Gridiron," says UNSET frontman Frank Torres. "Over the past year we have kept in touch with Kyle and Mikey from Gridiron, getting to know them and watching them progress as a new label. At the same time, they too were keeping an eye on UNSET and our progress as a new band, so, coming together now was not a spontaneous decision at all for either party. The sincere and ultimately genuine character of the Gridiron Records team has surpassed all our expectations. We are confident that they will work hard to bring UNSET to its fullest potential."
"We signed Unset because they are a progressive band with extreme talent. From the mind blowing guitar solos, heavy base beats and massive vocal range, we knew that this band was destined for success and we could not pass on the opportunity to sign them," said Kyle Turley of Gridiron Records.
UNSET was formed in 2004 by guitarist Ian Alexander and Vocalist Frank W. Torres. Since their formation the band has earned a loyal underground following throughout California opening for high profile acts like (hed)p.e., Adema, Invitro, Mower and The Accident Experiment (ex-P.O.D). The band is currently in San Diego, CA writing and demoing new material before they entire the studio to record their debut album for late 2007 release.
"Our debut album will be produced by Mikey Doling and engineered by Brad Dujmovic. These two make a dynamic team in the studio. The work we had done with them in the past has made them our first choice for recording our full-length debut," says Torres about the band's upcoming debut
album. "We'd like to think our songs are like snapshots in time. Each subject is very real and true to life. Emotion, to me, cannot be conveyed if it is contrived so every song we put together comes from an honest and, at most times, vulnerable place. In the end we hope that the record will portray a sincerity that borders on confession, an emotion that borders on madness and an originality that borders on art."
The band has recently uploaded demo tracks from their forthcoming Gridiron Records debut on their MySpace site.
Brisbane mainstay Minus Life have split siting musical differences as the reason. They will be playing a "goodbye" show later in the year for their fans to see them off.
BLOTTED SCIENCE, the instrumental extreme metal triumvirate featuring guitarist Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, SPASTIC INK), bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE), and drummer Charlie Zeleny (BEHOLD.....THE ARCTOPUS, JORDAN RUDESS), have released the tracklisting for their debut album, The Machinations Of Dementia.
The tracklisting: 'Synaptic Plasticity', 'Laser Lobotomy', 'Brain Fingerprinting', 'Oscillation Cycles', 'Activation Synthesis Theory: I - Is There A Dead Guy Under The Bed?, II - Monsters In My Closet, III - Flight In Space, IV - Suffocation, VI - Quicksand', 'REM', 'Night Terror', 'Bleeding In The Brain', 'Vegetation', 'Narcolepsy', 'EEG Tracings', 'Sleep Deprivation', 'The Insomniac', 'Amnesia', 'Adenosine Breakdown', 'Adenosine Buildup'.
Says mainman Ron Jarzombek: "There is still a bit of work left to be done do until everything is in the can, which I'll get around to once I'm back from Japan. I'm heading out of here in a couple of days to meet up with with MARTY FRIEDMAN, Chris Catero, and Jeremy Colson in Tokyo for one last show. We will be playing at the Ebisu Liquid Room, next Saturday, May 12th ; the gig is being filmed for a live DVD due out later this year along with a live album we recorded over in Europe last month. Should be very cool!"
Long-running Swedish metallers ENTOMBED have reportedly cancelled all previously announced European tour dates in early May due to a death in the family of guitarist Alex Hellid.
ENTOMBED will release its new album, "Serpent Saints – The Ten Amendments", in Germany on July 13 through Threeman Recordings via a special arrangement with Candlelight Records. The 10-song effort will mark the group's first release with drummer Olle Dahlstedt (ALPHA SAFARI, ex-MISERY LOVES CO.), who replaced Peter Stjärnvind in 2006. The band has also scheduled a special showcase gig on May 3 at the Ballroom in Hamburg, Germany. Songtitles set to appear on the new CD include "In the Blood" and "The Dead, The Dying and the Dying to be Dead". Mastering duties will take place at the end of the month with Soren Elofsson at Cosmos Mastering in Stockholm, Sweden.
With regards to the musical direction of the new album, the band previously said, "'Serpents Saints' goes wider and deeper than the 'When In Sodom' EP but it's a pretty good indicator. It's no concept album but an ambitious attempt at creating a solid album with some recurring themes. Almost like the soundtrack to the film with the same name."
Swiss melodic metallers EMERALD have issued the following update:
"We have sad news and good news. EMERALD member Andreas Bächler (drums) has decided to leave the band! He would like to set new priorities in his life and turn to other interests. There are no hard feelings between Andreas and the rest of the band, there is still a deep friendship. He recorded the drums for the new album 'Hymns to Steel' (release is planned for September) and will play a last concert with EMERALD in autumn after the release of the new album (at the release party). EMERALD would like to thank Andy for his fantastic drumming, for his tireless efforts for EMERALD and for the precious friendship. We will miss you, brother! More...
Dutch death metallers SINISTER have been forced to cut their mini-tour of the U.S. down to only two shows due to work obligations. The band will play Denver, CO on May 11 and St. Paul, MN on May 12 as part of the Minneapolis Mayhem 4 festival. Cancelled dates include San Diego, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City.
A preview clip of the first-ever live DVD from SINISTER, entitled "Prophecies Denied", has been posted online at YouTube. Reactivated U.K. thrashers ONSLAUGHT have been forced to cancel the remaining dates on their British tour due to a serious health issue concerning vocalist Sy Keeler.
The ONSLAUGHT frontman was rushed to hospital during the soundcheck at Leeds Rio's suffering from an acute loss of vision. Keeler has since undergone an emergency operation to repair a detached retina in his left eye. If it was not for this immediate procedure the doctors said he would have almost certainly lost the sight in this eye.
Following the band's announcement to the audience that evening regarding the situation, the other ONSLAUGHT members were taken aback by the overwhelming warmth and support showed to them by the enthusiastic Rio's crowd. This compelled the band to quickly reorganize and power through a few chosen classics with guitarist Nige Rockett handling the bulk of the vocal duties.
Speaking from hospital, a distraught Sy Keeler expressed his sincere apologies to all the fans that were looking forward to the first leg of the "Killing Peace" tour and is hoping to be fit enough to hit the road as soon as is humanly possible.
ONSLAUGHT is currently looking into rescheduling the cancelled dates for later in the year.

INVITRO, the California-based band featuring ex-SNOT/SOULFLY guitarist Mikey Doling, has been added as the support act on a number of upcoming dates on the STATIC-X/OTEP tour.
"We rocked 57 shows with my best brothers from my SNOT days and with Sonny Mayo in SEVENDUST now so it's been an awesome experience for everyone," says Invitro guitarist Mikey Doling. "We are going home for a week and then we start touring with STATIC-X. I'm very stoked to be touring with these guys, as we did a bit of touring together when I was in SOULFLY. It's always great to tour with old friends and I'm looking forward to a lot of good times with INVITRO."
In other news, INVITRO has announced the release date for its debut album, "When I Was A Planet', which is now scheduled to land in stores on August 7, 2007. The album will be released by Gridiron Records, a new label founded by Doling and Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Kyle Turley.

On his debut solo album, 'One Man Revolution,' Tom Morello, who played guitar with Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave and is now recording as his alter ego the Nightwatchman, channels his songwriting efforts into an album of politically minded songs about change and redemption. Armed with only an acoustic guitar, Morello carries on a great tradition of socially conscious music. In that spirit, he recounted for Spinner his top five political songs:
1. 'Biko,' Peter Gabriel
2. 'Imagine,' John Lennon
3. 'This Land Is Your Land,' Woody Guthrie
4. 'White Riot,' The Clash
5. 'Redemption Song,' Bob Marley

Launch Radio Networks reports: NINE INCH NAILS has posted three songs from the band's new "Year Zero" album onto a file-sharing network based on the popular BitTorrent software, which has quickly become the most frequently used method of illegally sharing and downloading large files, especially music and movies. The tracks appeared on a Swedish torrent site called Pirate Bay, which bills itself as the world's largest BitTorrent tracker. The songs are available for fans to either listen to or remix. NINE INCH NAILS has also hinted that the entire "Year Zero" album will soon be available on torrent networks.
Since leaking songs has been part of the marketing campaign for "Year Zero", it seems likely that NINE INCH NAILS put the three tracks on Pirate Bay with the cooperation of the group's record label.
"Year Zero" debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard album chart last week, selling 187,000 copies in its first week of release. The group's previous effort, 2005's "With Teeth", moved 272,000 copies.
The new CD's much-talked-about marketing campaign has involved cryptic voicemails and a maze of eerie web sites in addition to leaked music.
NINE INCH NAILS will visit Australia and Japan next month. North American tour plans are still to be announced.
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD mastermind Devin Townsend has posted his first video transmission in connection with his upcoming solo album, entitled "Ziltoid the Omniscient," which can be viewed on YouTube.
Due on May 22 via Inside Out Music America, "Ziltoid the Omniscient" was recorded completely by Devin, who took care of the singing, guitar, bass, synthesizers and sampling duties, in addition to mixing and producing the album on his own. Devin has stated on the HevyDevy forums that he used "the drumkit from Hell" on this release — the same kit that was previously utilized by MESHUGGAH on "Catch Thirty-Three" and which was developed by MESHUGGAH's Tomas Haake. Check out the cover artwork at this location (art created by Travis Smith). Audio samples of the songs "ZTO", "By Your Command" and "Hyperdrive" can be heard at the project's MySpace page. More...
At 17, Brandon is the youngest member in Mutiny. Before he even turns 18, he can say he's played everywhere from Starland Ballroom to Giants Stadium. Not too bad for someone whose only been playing guitar for three years. The guy can write a mean death metal tune [for evidence, just check out Mutiny's myspace page], put ridiculous solos to heavy rhythms, and balance out a song with heavy melodies of his own. Brandon is prepared to make Mutiny his life's work--it's his only project, and he dedicates pretty much all the time not spent sleeping to band related things. Expect to see Brandon and his sonic madness traversing the country with Mutiny someday....someday soon. More...
