Guitarist Dan DeLucie of U.S. power metal act Crescent Shield has issued the following announcement about vocalist Michael Grant passing away:
"Today I have lost a dear and close friend, a band mate, and a heavy metal brother. Michael Grant passed away on May 31, 2012 at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, CA after a relatively brief but serious illness. He was 39 years old. He was peaceful and surrounded by family at the time of his passing. Michael recorded and toured with several bands throughout his career most notably Onward on Century Media Records and more recently Crescent Shield on Cruz del Sur Music.
"Michael’s rich and powerful baritone and clean melodic vocal style made him a distinct voice in heavy metal. He was known for crafting memorable vocal hooks and layered harmonies. He often weaved multiple vocal phrases together creating a complex and striking tapestry of vocal melodies. Perhaps most notable however was the passion Mike sang with. He could evoke the strength and grandiloquence of the mightiest metal warrior or the mournful atmosphere of a passing life.
"Mike was more than just a singer though. He was a greatly talented songwriter and lyricist. Although he didn’t play an instrument, he would often write complete songs by humming guitar lines and vocalizing drum beats. His lyrics were profound, evocative and often personal. He was a true lover of heavy metal and would sing its praises with a sense of poetry and grandeur. No matter the topic: journeys into the unknown, the choices we make in life, religious dogma, or a crimson moonrise, Mike always delivered a moving message with unique elegance.
"Writing, recording, and performing music with Mike in Crescent Shield was a joy. We were in synch creatively and complimented each other’s abilities very well. We produced music for the love of it. We performed for the love of it. Crescent Shield’s pinnacle performance at Keep It True 08 in Germany was a dream come true for both of us. More...
After months of paperwork, hoop-jumping, and making the appropriate sacrifices, today Slave Pit is pleased to announce that the GWAR-B-Q is 100% completely legal and confirmed, and set for August 18th at Hadad's Lake. As you may recall, last year's GWAR-B-Q was switched from Hadad's to the National Theater because of problems getting the correct permits.
"All the proper arrangements have been made in triplicate and the proper demonic sponsorships attained," said GWAR spokes-thing Oderus Urungus. "It's going to be a stinking hot, beer and beef-smeared metallic murderfest of unprecedented debauchery...the most splat-tac-cular GWAR-B-Q!"
The following press release was also issued:
"This marks the third consecutive year for the growing festival, and like last year GWAR will headline the event. As Best Friends Day, the hugely popular Richmond music fest, is taking this summer off, the GWAR-B-Q is set to be the hugest heavy music event of the Richmond summer scene. Bands will be spread across two stages and feature such acts as The Casualties, GHOUL, Valient Thorr, Occultist, Lionize, Highness, Antietam 1862, MUTWAWA, and Black Naked Wings. There will also be Spew-O-Lympics, numerous food vendors, endless streams of golden nectar, pools to cool your fevered sun-burn, and much much more, including the return of the Sexecutioner to the GWAR stage for the first time in twelve years. Sexy has completed a lengthy sabbatical beneath the catacombs of Paris with his good friend, Prince Ray Pierre, better known as 'Frenchy,' the demon of France. His return to the rock stage provides the promise of attaining unprecedented levels of naughtiness." More...
King's X will return to the North American tour circuit this fall as direct support to Kansas. In regards to this upcoming trek, King's X bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick comments: "I've been a huge Kansas fan since the beginning. I remember sitting on the floor with my friends listening to the just released record 'Song for America'...Fast forward to years later, King's X is going on tour with them!! It is an honor to be doing shows with them. This is gonna rock!!"
With King's X drummer Jerry Gaskill and lead guitarist Ty Tabor also onboard for the North American trek, these dates will mark the band's first tour since Gaskill's remarkable recovery from a major heart attack earlier this year. "Not too long ago I was thinking I might not ever get back on a stage, now I'm ready and with the ok from all my doctors," says Gaskill. "What better way to get back than to tour with the legendary Kansas. Let's rock..."
King's X will be touring in support of "Live Love In London," the live CD/DVD follow-up to the band's latest studio release, "XV."
Kansas original member and guitar virtuoso Richard Williams adds, "We are really looking forward to the upcoming shows with King's X. They're a great band and a force to be reckoned with. It's a tour like this that allows us to dig a little bit deeper into our catalogue and play a few songs that Kansas fans haven't heard for a while. It's gonna be a lot of fun!" More...

Trollfest has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with two members:
"Time to unveil the new promo photos and you must be wondering why there are two of us missing. Well, we’ve had to bid a fond farewell to two of our members whose personal and work commitments meant that they could no longer dedicate the amount of time needed for a band that’s as active as TrollfesT. So please join us in wishing PsychoTroll and St Beinhard lots of luck for the future. We have lots of musicians waiting to fill in on stage for us, some of whom you know and love, some of whom you don’t know yet, but you’re bound to love them once you do.
"And don’t worry everyone, as you can see from the photo we’ve been celebrating the next phase in TrollfesT’s career. All of us are having the time of our lives not only because we get to play the music we want. Not only because we get to work with the fantastic people at our label NoiseArt, our Booking Agency Rock the Nation and our Manager Patricia Thomas. Not only because we get to travel round and share the stage with some fantastic bands. But also because we get to meet all of you (well some of you anyway), and you are the best fans that any band could have.
"So put our party photo up on your screens, blow up a few balloons, put on your party hats and pretend you’re sitting round the table with us making a mess of your beards with the cream cakes and getting happily drunk on the beer (naked hairy legs optional).
"Skäll everyone to a bigger, brighter, and better future with Trollfest. Love, kisses, hugs and other manly things from
"And remember, as Drekka Dag is saying below 'TrollfesT wants YOU' – or Trollmannen will break your window." More...

Fans in Canada and select cities in the northern part of the U.S. will finally have a chance to see what reviewers have called "The Best Metal Tour of the Year," when co-headliners Anthrax and Testament, joined by Death Angel, kick off a late-summer trek on September 14. Starting in Portland, OR, the bands will work their way north, cross into Canada, and play all of the major Canadian cities before wrapping up in Montclair, NJ on October 5. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 1.
This run will be the third leg of the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel hat-trick; the three bands packed five weeks worth of venues coast-to-coast last Fall, marking the first time Anthrax and Testament had shared a stage in more than a decade; again, earlier this year, the line-up played another dozen dates to headbangers in cities from Las Vegas to New York.
According to Anthrax's guitarist Scott Ian, "We played to sold-out shows, raging crowds and EPIC war dances, and we can't wait to do it again, especially for our Canadian fans who have been waiting a long to time 'worship music' with us."
"There have been very few three band bills in which the acts are so compatible and the shows so consistent that a second leg of the tour is a 'no-brainer'," said Testament's lead guitarist Alex Skolnick. "But in the case of Anthrax, Testament and Death Angel, that's been the case. Things have gone so well, in fact, that it's made sense to add a third leg with this exact same line up. All three bands are excited to take this show into new territory with a trek across Canada, and a few spots in the US we missed last time around. And this time, Testament will be armed with a brand new album with music that we're eager to share with everyone. Hope to see you out there!"
"We've been tight with the guys in Testament for a long, long time, and had a great time touring with them before," added Anthrax's drummer Charlie Benante. "And all of us in Anthrax are big Death Angel fans, so this is going to be a monster of a great time, for us and for the fans."
Said Testament's frontman Chuck Billy, "It's good to see that metal is alive in 2012 and the fans want a third leg of the Anthrax, Testament, Death Angel tour. Don't fucking miss it! Metal Forever!"
With more dates to be confirmed, the upcoming Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel tour dates are as follows:
September 14 Ace of Spades, Sacramento, CA
September 15 Roseland Theatre, Portland, OR
September 16 Toyota Arena, Kennewick, WA

For the first time the band will play a full 70 minute back to back set of the 2011 debut album, "Februus" and the 2009 EP, "8."
Comments guitarist, Igor Omodei: "We're truly thrilled to be able to do our first ever headline tour in the UK! We've had the chance to tour the country twice previously and it's a great step up for us to finally be able to offer a completely uncut show to one of the most energetic audiences we've ever met. Keep of Kalessin guitarist Obsidian C. has posted an update on his blog about starting the writing for a new album and follow-up to "Reptilian." He comments:
"I have taken some time out to really start focusing on the new Keep Of Kalessin album. For the last few months I've been focusing on other projects, more of which you will hear about later this year and in the coming years as a few of them are quite large undertakings so it won't happen over night.
"But right now I have arrived in Spain for a month of writing and creative flow with main focus on the new Keep Of Kalessin album. I brought my laptop, a soundcard and my guitar and the plan is to start jogging and swimming as well as writing music. I need to get my body and soul back into shape! ;)
"I already have some songs, bits and pieces ready so I need to sit down and be structured about finishing those ideas in the coming days. I always write new guitar riffs and many of them I'm satisfied with, but I always aim to have a good structure in a song which often mean that I actually leave my best riffs out of the album because they never fit into any song.
"It is also a fact that lately I've been kinda worn out regarding metal productions. Normally I easily write 10 riffs a day or a full song in 30 minutes, but lately I've just felt empty. Nothing I've written has been good enough. Understand me correctly, I've written good stuff, but not for Keep.
After the two years of touring since Reptilian was released I think my mind just shut down on this project and only lately has the harddrive started to reboot concerning this band. Maybe it's because I've set the standards for the next album so high that anything I write is not good enough, but inspiration to do another album has started to come back and I'm ready to start pushing the limit once again.
"Today's task is simple though. I need to go out and buy a new external harddrive which I'll install the Native Instruments Komplete 8 pack on with it's 250gb of sounds. I also need a harddrive to store all the audio tracks and new ideas on. Let's call this one the 'Project Drive' which will follow me through the entire production of the new album.
"I also need some new shoes for jogging. ;) So, off shopping then...."
