Wisconsin's Sleep Serapis Sleep has checked in with the following announcement about inking a deal with Static Age records:
"As you probably know, our musical independence is a priority for us and has made us skeptical of working with record labels. But after being contacted by Shane of Static Age a few months ago, we quickly realized the uniqueness of his approach. Shane and his team truly believe in us as a band, as they do with the rest of their artists, and want to see us succeed exactly as we are. With them, we are able to maintain our musical independence while enjoying the benefits of a band-label relationship. This is much too rare for us to pass up, and we are very excited to announce that we are now part of the Static Age family! We’d like to also take this opportunity to announce a few other things:
"1. Our missing guitarist position has been filled by Kyle Church (From All Within). If you’ve been keeping track, this makes two former From All Within members in SSS and if this keeps up we will be changing our name to From Serapis Within… but not really. 2. We are touring with our good friends and new label-mates, The Gun Show this June.
"A new full length from us is already in the works, recording to take place this November with Zack Ohren at Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland, California (The Ghost Inside, All Shall Perish). We have decided to drop out of the Cornerstone competition, but something big is in the works around that time so please stay posted! Many more opportunities are just around the corner for us, so please check back for more updates soon!"

In addition to having just been announced as one of the second stage acts on Ozzfest 2010, KATAKLYSM frontman has been keeping busy with another business venture: opening a pizzeria. States Iacono:
"Growing up in an Italian family, you always know someone that owns a pizza joint. My father was a head chef in New York, so I kind of grew up with it as well. I chose the path of music, but somehow the restaurant business has come to find me. I’ve decided to open a pizzeria with a very good friend of mine, Saverio Donancricchia. His family has been in the pizza business for over 20 years in Chicago with Albano’s Pizzeria in Cicero. They’ve ranked as a Top 10 Chowdown Joints on ‘Top 101 Places in America’ by The Travel Channel, so needless to say, opening the #2 location has been keeping us very busy!!! We like to welcome all metalheads to come by Albano’s Pizzeria #2 and try our world famous giant pizza puffs! The upcoming debut album from Blood Revolt, formed from the Canadian/Irish triumvirate that consists of Primoridial vocalist A. A. Nemtheanga, Revenge/Conquerer mastermind J. Read, and Axis Of Advance/Revenge guitarist C. Ross, has reached its completion. The new album will be titled "Indoctrine." The band issued the following statement about the album:
"Thematically, 'Indoctrine' takes a glimpse into one man’s descent into madness and untimely vengeance. An attack on the system and a social commentary where salvation is found from the barrel of a gun, 'Indoctrine' is like the lone wolf that calmly waits to attack and becomes a statement of intent that there is a war coming."
Delving further within the concept of Blood Revolt, vocalist A. A. Nemtheanga states, “In an age of compromise Blood Revolt is genuine rebellion. Pushing the boundaries of what is accepted in 'extreme' metal, Blood Revolt is metal with teeth, like it should be. Genuine violence and aggression mixed with the kind of very real and very dark subject matter that would make other bands heads spin. No cartoon imagery or fantastical pseudo religious hocus pocus, this is the sniper filing down the pin before picking off innocents, this is the suicide bombers sweaty greasy hand on the ignition, dead bodies piled in the politics of the mass grave. Unforgiving and unrelenting elitism…” More...

From day one it was like Matt Goldman was already in our heads. He saw what we wanted and tried to help us create it. The man has the best sense of humor. The most fun I've ever had in a studio.”

U.K. based black metallers Onsetcold are currently streaming a new song online titled "Judas Iscariot," along with their previously uploaded track "Sodom." The band issued the following brief update about posting the new music:
"We have a new demo track called Judas Iscariot on MySpace and Facebook. Whole New line up and new songs We are also sorting our selves out for touring and playing new shows in the new year starting around May."
New York doom metallers Batillus have issued the following statement about preparing to enter the recording studio:
"When I know I have to get up in three hours, I find it difficult to sleep at all, no matter how tired I am. I'm so worried about sleeping through my alarm and getting on the road late (and potentially missing the next show) that I just wind up lying there in a half-sleep waiting for the fast-approaching moment where I'll have to drag my ass out of bed, slam a gallon of coffee, and get on the highway. That's what happened to us last night: we returned to our local housing site after a show at some townie dive called JR's Bar in south south Philly around 2am, then woke up at 5am in order to get on the road by 6am to make our load-in time in Indianapolis tonight.
"In spite of the fact that JR's isn't set up to host live music-- much less loud live music-- and the fact that during our last song the Ampeg SVT head belonging to Chris from Riff Cannon through which Willi was playing toppled off the speaker cabinet and onto the floor, the show was decent. We played well, and Riff Cannon played spectacularly. I'm bummed we barely got to hang out with those guys, though. Since they never made it to New York for Thursday's show due to van troubles and since we had to get to sleep immediately following last night's show due to our aforementioned 6am van call time, we hardly had a chance to hang with them. It's soul-crushing just imagining all the fun we would have, should have, could have had. More...
Reactivated San Francisco Bay Area thrashers Forbidden continue their work at Sonic Room/Audio Voyage Studios in Livermore, California recording their upcoming new album "Omega Wave." Album artwork has been commissioned from Kent Mathieu and the album is being produced by Forbidden guitarist / songwriter Craig Locicero and Tim Narducci. All tracks will be mixed by Sean Beavan.
Locicero also commented: “After a year of writing and a couple of months recording this son of a bitchin' album, we've finally decided to call it Omega Wave. It certainly would have been easy to self-title it, but anyone who knows anything about Forbidden and our history understands that we spend a considerable amount of time thinking about these things. That's just what we do. Omega Wave seemed most fitting and it's one of the thrashiest songs on the record! An ‘omega wave’ is the feeling of impending doom that hangs over everyone in these difficult times, more so than any other era in history. Many feel that our time is almost up, partly because it has been written and predicted in almost every ancient society; also because most people can tell which way the wind is blowing, if you know what I mean. So the question is, is this all really happening by design or is it a self-fulfilled, man-made hysteria that we are creating by accepting it in our collective consciousness? Either way, it's a black wave of negative energy that exists to billions of people. That is the Omega Wave.”
On why the band sought out the artist Forbidden’s career began with he stated: “Within the last few months, we've reconnected with the original artist who painted the artwork for our first two albums, Forbidden Evil and Twisted Into Form: Kent Mathieu. I love the work he's done with everyone, but there is no denying that the first two covers he did for Forbidden are a couple of the most iconic pieces for our genre. Getting Kent on board was a coupe and he gets us like no other artist could. He’s got a pile of lyrics to inspire him and he fully understands the Omega Wave concept. I can't wait to see what he comes up with. Should be perfect!” More...
Drummer Mike Gröger of Austrian act Hollenthon has checked in with the following announcement about the band switching out bass players:

Our new man on the bass is Max and we played the first show with him at the Ragnaröck Festival, it was a great show and he did it very well! So stay tuned for further information, new band pics coming soon! Cheers."

Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week I am exploring the Singapore scene.
The music scene in Singapore is predominantly indie and pop, with the biggest musical output being from indie bands. Rarely is metal heard over the airwaves with the exception of a one-hour metal show every Saturday midnight on a Malay radio station (the main spoken language in Singapore is English, so that shows how little exposure to metal there is over here). However, this has not stopped a large number of metal bands from sprouting up in recent years, with the wide availability of alternative forms of music via the Internet.
Whether locally or over the Internet, here are three underground metal bands from Singapore worth checking out: More...

Agent Steel has checked in with the following update about recruiting their original vocalist Cyriis after the departure of Bruce Hall:
"As some of you may, or may not have already heard the news that Agent Steel has parted ways with vocalist Bruce Hall. We as a band would like to acknowledge the accomplishments together with Bruce and the (3) three solid metal offerings; 'Omega Conspiracy', 'Order Of The Illuminati', and 'Alienigma'. Together we had the fortune of touring and sharing the stage in some amazing places and visited some breathtaking countries. Bruce dedicated over a decade to Agent Steel and for this he should be recognized, and we part on good terms. We as a band still have the fire and passion to deliver the metal goods to fans from the past, present and future.
"We had been writing new material for the next chapter of Agent Steel, and after the news got out that we separated from Bruce; we were contacted by original singer; Cyriis. Call it destiny; call it what you will, but now the communicative channel is open between Agent Steel and vocalist Cyriis; we are in talks about an imminent Agent Steel reunion tour possibly involving summer/fall 2010 appearances and an extensive '2011' Metal-blitz. Honestly, we do not know how long this reunion will last; however this could be the long awaited destiny of Agent Steel originally interrupted, so long as everything moves forward in an evolving good working climate. Our objective regarding this Agent Steel reunion is attached with the intentions of providing the opportunity to not only the dedicated fans, but also to a whole new generation of metal fans the chance to see Agent Steel live on stage with Cyriis; the original voice on the classic ‘Skeptics Apocalypse, ‘Unstoppable Force’, and ‘Mad Locust Rising’ releases. The legacy continues...stay tuned."
