Ronnie James Dio recently spent time in the U.K. "kicking around ideas" with BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi for a couple of new tracks to be included on SABBATH's forthcoming box set, "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years". However, there are no plans for SABBATH and Dio to reunite for any further touring or recording activity.
DIO have just issued "Holy Diver Live", a live recording of the band's classic "Holy Diver" album in its entirety, from start to finish, recorded live in London in 2005. It also includes, among others, "Heaven & Hell", "Sign of the Southern Cross" and "Mob Rules" from Dio's SABBATH days, "Tarot Woman", "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" from the RAINBOW era and "We Rock" from his solo career.
DIO's follow-up to 2004's "Master of the Moon" is expected in late 2006/early 2007.
ANGTORIA, the new Swedish/British orchestral/metal band formed by female singer Sarah Jezebel Deva (CRADLE OF FILTH, THERION, MORTIIS), composer Chris Rehn (ABYSSOS) and Tommy Rehn (MOAHNI MOAHNA), have announced the addition of CRADLE OF FILTH bassist Dave Pybus and MY OWN GRAVE drummer John Henriksson to the group's lineup. Both Pybus and Henriksson participated in the making of the band's recent video for the track "God Has A Plan For Us All" with up-and-coming, award-winning Swedish director Måns Berthas, while Pybus also made an appearance on the group's debut CD of the same name. A detailed video diary can be found at Angtoria.com.
"God Has A Plan For Us All" was released in Europe last month via Listenable Records. The mixing process for the CD began on January 14, with acclaimed producer Daniel Bergstrand (IN FLAMES, SOILWORK, MESHUGGAH, DEVIN TOWNSEND, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, BEHEMOTH) stepping in during the initial phase, and Tommy and Chris completing the mix at Sidelake studios with Micke Öhlén. The mastering was finished February 14 at the Cutting Room in Stockholm by Björn Engelmann, who has previously worked with RAMMSTEIN, IN FLAMES, SOILWORK, DIMMU BORGIR and WITHIN TEMPTATION, among others. The initial cover concept/idea was developed by Sarah. The CD is available in two versions: a standard jewel case version and a digipack version with a bonus track.
HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak has posted the following message on his official blog:
"We have once again spent three days in the rehearsal room, playing through the now nine songs finished for the album. I can't remember feeling this good about the material before a recording, ever. Especially not for the last album, then I was very unsure about how things would turn out. This time, the feeling is the complete opposite. Go figure. Very weird, but good!
"Joacim [Cans, vocals] threw a great barbecue party for us all on Saturday evening, and then we went to watch DRAGONLAND and BLOODBOUND, among others, perform at the second annual Gothenburg Metal Festival. Right now, I'm sitting in front of the TV trying to watch Jim Carrey lose it in 'Bruce Almighty' and Sweden vs. Russia in the finals of the LG Hockey Games simultaneously on a split screen. Tired but content after a really good weekend."
HAMMERFALL are expected to enter the studio this summer to begin recording their new album for an October 2006 release. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Dark Wings, Dark Words", "Carved In Stone", "Titan", "Shadow Empire", "Threshold" and "Rebel Inside". The band's latest album, "Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken", was released in March 2005 via Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to 2002's "Crimson Thunder" was produced and mixed by Charlie Bauernfeind (BLIND GUARDIAN, HELLOWEEN).
Legendary Norwegian Black Metalists Mayhem will release their new album on Season of Mist. "Ordo Ab Chao" will then be Mayhem's 3rd full-length on the French label.
The band also states that "after the troubled "Chimera", some conditions and issues have changed for the better. We are very focused and eager to record our first album (since`93) with Attila Csihar back behind the microphone. The beast has never been stronger".

Through The Eyes Of The Dead have missed some shows on the tour with A Life Once Lost and Cephalic Carnage. Here is an update from the band out on the road:
“We are very sorry to those who came out to the shows this past week and didn't get to see us. Two days prior to the ALOL/Cephalic tour, our drummer Josh got very sick and had to be rushed to the hospital. He was diagnosed with a severe case of mono and also had appendicitis. He had to have his appendix removed the next day and was told he should recover in 3-4 weeks.
Meanwhile, we have been working with a replacement drummer and we will pick up the tour Friday, April 28th at New England Metal and Hardcore Fest.
We will definitely reschedule the northeastern dates that we missed sometime in the near future. Please check out all of the dates and come out if we are in your area! -Justin"

On Wednesday, April 26, I got out to see Still Remains' "Of Love And Lunacy" tour, featuring supporting acts Nodes of Ranvier, If Hope Dies, Demiricous and Another Born Without at Jaxx in Springfield, Virginia. The real reason I was going to this show was to see Demiricous, but I also like what I've heard of If Hope Dies and wanted to check out Still Remains and Nodes of Ranvier, who I've heard a lot about but never heard their music or seen them live. I had noted to my friend who I planned to meet at the venue that the show wouldn't be crowded due the show being on a Wednesday night and having no big name headliners. I had no idea how much of an understatement that would turn out to be. More...
Boston, Massachusetts' HourCast is readying their latest work, "State Of Disgrace," for a June 6, 2006 release via Alkamedia Records. HourCast combines elements of hard rock and metal with a distinct electronic influence. "We had no preconceptions as to what the band would sound like," says vocalist Patrick McBride. According to the press release, the members of HourCast – Mcbride, drummer Jerry Clews, guitarist David Henriquez and bassist David Sullivan - have combined their varied influences to create a unique sound that incorporates the heavy flavor of Deftones and Tool with the dark electronic atmosphere of Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode.
Not being signed to a label could serve as a liability to some bands, but not HourCast. "We didn’t have a label telling us what to do and that allowed us to add variety and flavor to the album," says McBride. HourCast is a band looking to gain ground in the current music scene. "Myspace and live shows are definitely helping us to build a fan base," says McBride.
The track listing for HourCast's "State Of Disgrace" comprises:
Almost Like Life
3rd Of July
Memories And Lies
HourCast will be on tour with Sevendust throughout the month of May (minus just announced shows that were cancelled due to an injury preventing Sevendust from performing): More...
Coming off their 350,000-selling 2004 indie smash They're Only Chasing Safety disc, UNDEROATH return June 20 with DEFINE THE GREAT LINE, their third album on Seattle's Tooth and Nail/Solid State Records. Catapulting them far beyond their previous works to create a sound that's both epic and intimate, UNDEROATH deliver one highlight after another including "Casting Such A Thin Shadow," "In Regards To Myself" and the haunting first single "Writing On The Walls."
The band - lead vocalist SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN, guitarist TIM MCTAGUE, bassist GRANT BRANDELL, drummer AARON GILLESPIE, keyboardist CHRISTOPHER DUDLEY and guitarist JAMES SMITH - just arrived in Sweden to shoot two videos with the avant-garde production team Popcore Films (Cult of Luna, From First To Last "The Latest Plague"). Director Anders Forsman is helming the "Writing On The Walls" clip, while director Linus Johansson will lens the video for "In Regards To Myself." Meawhile, look for UNDEROATH to host MTV2's "Headbangers Ball" on the show airing Saturday, June 3.
In touring news, UNDEROATH will perform at the Bamboozle Festival in East Rutherford, NJ on Sunday, May 7 before launching their U.S. headlining tour with Poison The Well, As Cities Burn and Spitfire supporting. For the May 15 New Orleans stop at the House Of Blues, the band will donate all of their share of the proceeds to benefit Common Grounds, which restores homes for Katrina Victims in the Ninth Ward. In addition, there will be a table at the show so kids can learn more about how to help with hurricane relief. Then UNDEROATH will hit the road as one of the headlining main stage acts on the Vans Warped Tour all summer long from June 15-August 13.
"We didn't want to take the normal approach, with just two guitar tracks, drum tracks, vocal tracks or whatever," guitarist TIM explains about the making of DEFINE THE GREAT LINE. "We made an effort to expand in our minds what UNDEROATH could do."
The disc was crafted with the help of Atlanta-based producer/drummer Matt Goldman--who helped pour the rhythmic foundation--and Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, who lent his experience to help capture the guitars and vocals and encouraged these Warped Tour veterans to use E-Bows, reel bows and experiment with delays and effects pedals. As a result, DEFINE THE GREAT LINE is a mind-blowing and cohesive album and, while marking an artistically dark turn for the band, it remains undeniably accessible.
"I like how broad it is," says lead vocalist SPENCER about the album's title. "DEFINE THE GREAT LINE can be interpreted so many different ways. It's just an imaginary line that I try to balance myself on to be the best person I can be."
Here is UNDEROATH's touring schedule: More...

Crisis have announced plans to go an indefinite hiatus, issuing the following statement:
"All of us in Crisis would like to let our very faithful and diehard fans know that the band is going on an indefinite hiatus. We are sorry that our fans will not be hearing any new music from us in the near future. Crisis has had a long and fruitful life thus far. Therefore, we don't feel the need to justify our decision specifically. The band members will be focusing on their personal lives, as well as pursuing other artistic interests. In the meantime we strongly urge our fans to support original and honest artists and their music; a lot of them can be found on The End Records roster. We would especially like to thank our dedicated fans the world over for sticking so closely with us over a span of 12 years and more. We would also like to thank Andreas Katsambas and The End Records crew from the bottom of our hearts for all their support. If Crisis ever thinks about releasing another album it would be a pleasure for us to work with The End again."
