Finnish melodic death metallers OMNIUM GATHERUM have announced the addition of singer Jukka Pelkonen (a.k.a. "J") from the band called ELENIUM as their new frontman. "Jukka and other ELENIUM dudes have been our dear friends for a really long time, so it seemed very natural choice for us to ask Jukka for his services — in fact he was the ONLY one we ever thought and aske," the band write in a statement. "The rehearsals with Jukka have gone really well and in good spirit, and he has brought much-needed new life to the band with his aggressive growling vocal style and new ideas. We hope that all of you give Jukka a fair chance to show his skills and talents and then draw your conclusions. At least we, the OG crew, are amazed about this and have again strong faith to OG's future and new stuff. We are not trying to fill [former singer] Antti's [Filppu] shoes cause it's not possible. Jukka will do his own stuff and write his own lyrics, he has our full backing and support. The writing and demoing of the new material is going on and the new stuff will be...... HHEAVY!"
Jukka will make his live debut with OMNIUM GATHERUM on July 11 at the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival after-party at Gloria in Helsinki, Finland.
OMNIUM GATHERUM are currently seeking a new label home, having parted ways with Nuclear Blast Records last year. The band's latest album, "Years in Waste", was released in the U.S. in March 2005 via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2003's "Spirits and August Light" was recorded at Sonic Pump studios in Helsinki, Finland with producer Nino Laurenne and engineer Teemu Aalto.
New Jersey-bred maniacal metallers DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN have posted their cover of SOUNDGARDEN's classic "Jesus Christ Pose" on their official MySpace page. The track comes off the band's upcoming iTunes-exclusive digital download EP, "Plagiarism", due on June 13.
Commented the band: "SOUNDGARDEN, man. I'm talking about glory days glass shattering Chris Cornell, not this easy listening slop he's got going on now. Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Chris Cornell, Ben Shepherd.... whew! Remember that shit?! That time period was the jam. Shit like that is hard to find now. Anyhow, this is our little homage if you will to a great band from a great time that was influential to all of us."
Other tracks featured on the EP include new versions of DILLINGER classics "Unretrofied" (radio edit) and "The Perfect Design" (live), plus "Wish" (NINE INCH NAILS), "Angel" (MASSIVE ATTACK), and "Like I Love You" (JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE), all recorded and mixed by guitarist Benjamin Weinman on his laptop in his bedroom.
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN are currently writing material for the group's fourth studio LP, the follow-up to 2004's "Miss Machine". The writing process has been stymied, as Weinman's been sidelined for several months due to surgery on his arm. The band are also preparing for the release of their "Miss Machine" DVD. The disc will reportedly contain all "Miss Machine"-related material, including all the music videos made for the record, behind-the-scenes footage and a live video from the "Miss Machine" touring cycle.
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN will will be supporting AFI during their inaugural North American tour for their new record beginning on June 13 in Montreal, Quebec. This summer tour will also include NIGHTMARE OF YOU and be making stops in major cities across the country. In addition to their dates with AFI, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN will be doing several headlining shows with label mates DYSRHYTHMIA in tow.
Switzerland's GURD, the band formed out of the ashes of the power-thrash metal legends POLTERGEIST, have inked a deal with the German label Dockyard 1. The recently completed work on their eighth album, "Bang!" (cover), at the Little Creek studio for a July 28 release. A full-length MP3 of the album's title cut is available for download here.
Hayg Terzian on lead guitar for the poignant yet darkly themed progressive black metal band called Orcus is quite a pleasant revelation. He is not one of the new breed of axe slingers that thinks going fast is the only way to impress anyone, yet he seems to be more than capable with both tremendous dexterity and ability to stir emotion from his notes, which is the highest compliment I think that can be paid to any electric guitarist, no matter what style of music they play. Orcus is a very unique and I believe meaningful unsigned metal band at this point in time and are due to be releasing their new album entitled Birth at a record release party Saturday, June 17th at the famed Whisky A Go Go. California based melodic death metal band, Sol Asunder, announce details about their upcoming new album entitled ‘Horribly Human’.
Chazz, guitarist, says the album is “derived of some old songs revised in the studio, and some new songs…” Chazz mentions a few guest artists will be on the album “We got Juan Ortega of ‘VILE’ doing guest backing vocals on ‘Hate Fueled Anger’ and Max Seeman of ‘ANOMALOUS’ doing a guitar solo on ‘Redeemer.’ Having Juan on the album was a big thing for us, this being our first full length released, and doing it all ourselves, it really made us feel even more like this is a real project that will be well received. Juan really liked how the album turned out, and was excited to be a part of it. Max has been a long time friend of the band. His band, ANOMALOUS, has influenced Sol Asunder since the band started. We have always wanted to work with him on something, and he was more then willing to shred on Horribly Human.” Chazz talks about the new songs on the record, “the new songs are a matured sound for us…We have been getting a lot more musical with our riffs, which leaves lots of room for Mica [vocals] to make more brutal and fierce.”
‘Horribly Human’ Track listing:
1. Beneath The Surface
3. The Addict
4. Hate Fueled Anger
6. Sorrow Sets The Sun
7. Horribly Human
8. Enter Mission
‘Horribly Human’ is set to be released in August 2006
Sol Asunder's myspace page contains a video of a demo version Hate Fueled Anger, which will appear on the upcomming album.
