RollingStone.com has issued the following report:
The rock video game war will heat up again in the fall: both of the industry’s flagship series are hitting consumers with tantalizing titles in 9/09. Harmonix’s THE BEATLES: Rock Band arrives September 9th, and now Activision has confirmed Guitar Hero 5 is due September 1st. The game will boast 85 brand-new master recordings, and this week Activision is announcing the band lineup in a series of scavenger hunt-like stories; fans who track down all the featured artists can enter a sweepstakes to win five tickets to concerts at a venue of their choice.
Rolling Stone can exclusively reveal that tracks from QUEEN & DAVID BOWIE (presumably 'Under Pressure'), KINGS OF LEON, SANTANA, SONIC YOUTH and A PERFECT CIRCLE will appear in the game. The title will also come equipped with tunes by WEEZER, BON JOVI, BILLY JOEL, ELLIOT SMITH and THE BRONX.

"SPV will be releasing the DVD soon (and it rocks; co-headlining in front of 30,000 metal maniacs!) but Annihilator are now free from the label and negotiating with others to release the new and finished 13th studio release. Updates coming at annihilatormetal.com." More...
Dillinger Escape Plan has announced that they have terminated their contract with Relapse Records and will now be working on the Season Of Mist label instead. A statement from guitarist Ben Weinman reads:
"It is becoming clear that as the music industry standard continues to morph and change on a daily basis, artistic and operational freedom has become a band’s most valuable asset. 100% free of all previous contractual ties, Dillinger is in an amazing position to collaborate with some interesting partners which will continue to nurture the ethic that we have been doing our best to stay true to for over 10 years now. While touring Europe in support of our record, Ire Works, I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Berberian, distributor and owner of the independent record label Season of Mist. It quickly became clear that we had very similar ideas about Dillinger’s music and its place in the underground. Season of Mist has always been a leader in releasing some of the most extreme and interesting metal and experimental music. We look forward to releasing our next full length effort in association with Season of Mist as the very first chapter of this new journey. Also, Michael’s last name almost spells out Barbarian which Greg was really excited about."
Finnish goth rockers The 69 Eyes has announced that they have signed a new record deal with Nuclear Blast Records to release their new, as-yet untitled album. Vocalist Jyrki 69 states:

We were very happy how Nuclear Blast worked our Goth’N’Roll box set and it is overwhelming to start this next chapter for The 69 Eyes by releasing our new studio album through Nuclear Blast! They’re the mightiest metal label there is and we\’re proud to deliver them such a powerful album. Together we definitely will ROCK THE METAL!!!"
