CJ Pierce of Drowning Pool has posted a note remembering Paul Gray from Slipknot in light of his recent passing:
"Paul was actually the first person in Slipknot that Dave Williams, Me, Mike, and Stevie ever met. When we were recording the first Drowning Pool CD Sinner in LA back in Jan/Feb of 2001, we would go out to the Rainbow after recording to have a few drinks and hang out. We ran into Paul a few times while Slipknot was recording their second CD Iowa, became friends and the next thing you know we're all on Ozzfest six months later rockin out together. We know what it's like to lose a brother and a family member. Our hearts and our prayers go out to Slipknot and Paul's family. You will always be remembered.
"In memory of the ones we've lost, life will never be the same without you."
Slipknot bassist Paul Gray passed away on Monday, May 24th, 2010. Roadrunner Records has now issued the following statement expressing their condolences to Gray's family:
"Roadrunner Records extends our deepest condolences to the band mates, family, friends and fans of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, who tragically passed away on May 24. Paul was a well-loved and respected member of the Roadrunner family. While the hard rock community endures a massive loss with his passing, Paul’s musical legacy will endure. Paul will be forever remembered for the intense energy he put forth on stage and the passion that he committed on record. He will be sorely missed. To remember Paul Gray is to look back on all that Slipknot have accomplished, for as Clown stated in Tuesday’s live press conference, “Paul Gray was the essence of the band.” Join us as we listen to Slipknot in Paul’s honor, and through our shock and sadness of this difficult time, remember the passionate musician and sweet, fun-loving man who greeted everyone with a smile."
Amy Sciarretto, Roadrunner Director of Publicity, also commented: “Every time I ever saw Paul Gray, he always seemed to be smiling or laughing about something. He did a lot of interviews for me when I was doing radio for them and he also did a bulk of them for me when I became their publicist. I remember the Ozzfest date in August 2004 in the Pittsburgh market. I went out to cover dozens of interviews for Slipknot headlining the side stage and I remember bringing a parade of interviews, one-by-one, into this air-conditioned trailer set up behind the stage, and he knocked out every single one with a smile and consummate professionalism. He did everything that was asked of him and with a smile, making a very stressful day of interviews a smooth, seamless one. That doesn't happen very often, but it did that day, and I always remember him being gracious. His memory will live in my heart forever. I send all my love and support to my friends in Slipknot as they go, this is a loss that guts you from the inside out.” More...
Daath will be entering the studio early next month to begin tracking a third full-length album. Drummer Kevin Talley (ex-Chimaira, Dying Fetus) begins tracking in Atlanta on June 7th with producer Mark Lewis (All That Remains, Trivium, Devildriver) and co-producer Eyal Levi at the helm. Daath guitarist Eyal Levi and Emil Werstler also unleashed their new all instrumental collaboration, "Avalanche of Worms" on Magna Carta Records last month.
The band commented about the writing process for the new Daath effort: “Here we are in the studio once again. It almost feels like we never left. Less than half a year ago we were putting the finishing touches on Avalanche of Worms. Usually after you finish an album you take time away from creating in order to tour, but in this case we jumped right back into recording. Simultaneous to working night and day to bring this new Daath record to life we've watched Avalanche of Worms make its way into the world and take on a life of its own.
"The response has been amazing. It’s great to see that in this day and age an instrumental album can still resonate deeply with people. We're really excited to see where Levi/Werstler will take us next. Nothing is set in stone, but ideas are being thrown around for an album in 2011. And before any of that, there's a Daath album to finish. More...
Pulverised Records has checked in with the following update about inking a record deal with Japanese act GxSxD:
"Pulverised Records is pleased to welcome Japanese death metal fiends GxSxD to their expanding roster of extreme! An abbreviation for 'God Send Death,' GxSxD formed in 2002 and, barely a decade into the band's career, found themselves touring massively throughout their homeland, gaining widespread popularity as one of the most powerful death metal acts to emerge from Japan. Offering an unforgiving, flawlessly executed assault of Euro-influenced DM, GxSxD's live appeal is further accentuated by the synchronized windmill headbanging of twin brothers Yusuke and Yohsuke Oka's."
Said the band of the signing: “Finally we have found our home! We are very excited to work with Pulverised Records since we [consider] them one of best labels around. We’ll prove what we can do.”
Added Pulverised A&R Manager Calvin Chiang: "I was instantly jaw-dropped by what I heard when I discovered GxSxD! Unbelievably tight with a vicious twin-guitar attack, GxSxD caught our attention and we knew they were -- and are -- in an exceptional class of their own. After some discussions with the band, the deal was quickly sealed and plans are currently underway for their second full-length effort, which we should expect sometime this year. GxSxD is truly an unstoppable force; be prepared for their brand of barbaric death metal!" More...
American death metal veterans Six Feet Under has posted a message online regarding the recent offshore drilling explosion, which is being called the worst oil spill in U.S. history. The message reads as follows:
"Didn't 'we' all think this 'President' was supposed to be more aware and was going to do more to rebuild our great country, and help pull us all out of the hole we are in? Looks like he's putting us all in a bigger hole by not taking action and doing something about stopping the oil leak that is destroying The Gulf Of Mexico and destroying our country.
"Please, if you drive... boycott the fuck out of BP! Do not buy their fuel. They can stop the oil leak. They are a greedy, evil company that doesn't care about any of us, or this planet. We can do something by taking money out of their pocket, by not buying their product. More...
In an official statement to American fans before the band's headlining appearance at this year's Maryland Deathfest, Watain front man E. warns of the carnage to come. "We are leaving for the US in 11 hours from now, armed to the teeth and ready to murder. The Watain performance at Maryland Deathfest shall be a triumphant holocaust of all that is holy, and a massive celebration of the gods of Lawless Darkness! Be prepared."
E. also released info on Watain's lineup for this unholy excursion: "Due to legal bullshit, our brother Set will not be able to enter the States for Maryland Deathfest. E will handle the second guitar and vocals. The rest of the line up will be as always; H - Battery, P - Guitar, A - Bass. Try as you might, but nothing can stop the Devils sworn to do their work! Not even the tame resistance of the law."
Watain will headline the first night of Maryland Deathfest 2010 this Friday night alongside other first day headliners D.R.I., Gorguts, and Possessed, and will be the first stateside appearance from the band since the 2008 Black Metal Magic tour. This is also the first North American Watain live action fueling their upcoming fourth full-length opus, "Lawless Darkness," which is due out June 8th on Season of Mist.

Abigail Williams will headline a string of West Coast dates in the coming week to celebrate the completion of the band's second full-length album. The shows will follow the band’s first Australian dates, supporting North Carolina’s Nile. Abigail Williams recently completed work on the still untitled second album.
Recorded at Conquistador Studios in Cleveland, Ohio, eight new songs are planned for album, which is currently planned for release on September 14th, 2010. Vocalist/guitarist Ken Sorceron, with engineer Cole Martinez, commanded the audio takes while Peter Tagtgren (Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Celtic Frost) mixed the tracks. The record was mastered at Black Lounge Studios in Sweden.
Sorceron recently commented, “There is a lot less keyboards on the new songs. They are far more guitar-driven and have a bit more of a traditional sound in some ways but still very Abigail Williams sounding. We let ourselves have much more room with writing this album, kind of a more open, free environment than any we have employed before. The studio experience this time round was very natural to us. We recorded everything with much more ease and I think it has helped in capturing a very honest vibe.”
Abigail Williams has the following upcoming headlining shows: More...

How the hell this can happen I have no clue about but we are not to blame. If there is anyone actually interested in these things here is the correct info."
The updated track information is as follows:

"R.I.P Paul. When we found out about Paul’s death we were shocked. We had the privilege of getting to know him as early as 2000 and he was always a stand up guy. He will be missed dearly! Our thoughts go out to Paul’s family, friends and fellow band members. Rest in Peace Paul."
Kataklysm recently wrapped up recording "Heaven’s Venom," the follow-up to 2008’s "Prevail," which will be released on August 20th in Europe and August 24th in North America. "Heaven’s Venom" was recorded by Kataklysm guitarist Jean-François Dagenais and is currently being mixed by Tue Madsen.
"It’s done!” Commented guitarist Dagenais. “The recording for our new album Heaven’s Venom is complete. Everything you wish for in a Kataklysm album is here and some unexpected musical adventures as well. Everyone here has given 150% of themselves! As Kataklysm turns twenty next year we want to be remembered as the band who never gave up, and faced the odds. This explosive slab of metal will lead scene for future conquests and not be forgotten ever. The music, the vocals and the production are all top notch. The mix is the hands of Tue Madsen as we speak and we have full confidence in him. He did a wonderful job on our In The Arms of Devastation album so be prepared! Heaven’s Venom will be out August 20th in Europe and august 24th in America and the band will be promoting the new album with Ozzfest and dates with DevilDriver this August/September. Push the Venom!"
Some tentative song titles appearing on the album include “Soul Made of Shrapnel," “Blind Savior," “Hail the Renegade,” and “Push the Venom."
Norwegian extreme metal horde Keep Of Kalessin will release "Reptilian" in North America on June 8th. The follow up to Keep of Kalessin's 2008 release, "Kolossus," was recorded once again at the band's own studio in Trondheim, Norway. Final mixing duties were handled this time around by Daniel Bergstrand. Members of the band spoke about what it was like to work with Daniel Bergrstrand and their upcoming tour with Nile, Ex Deo, Psycroptic, and Pathology.
"We're very happy with the result of the new album,” guitarist Obsidian C. commented. “Working with Daniel Bergstrand was great and he really helped us gain a more powerful production. This album is more direct and in-you-face than before and we hope that our fans will like it. We have also started to play some of these songs live now and they work better than any of our earlier material. We also see that the crowd react very well to these new songs and we're looking forward to playing them for the American fans in October and November when we will be touring with Nile over there."
Drummer Vyl added: “The new album is intended to go straight for the kill. With more power and edge than before. We wanted a more contemporary sound without loosing the organic feel to it. I feel that the title Reptilian is a statement and describes the album rather than proposing a concept. We hired Daniel Bergstrand for drum-recording and mix. You know you'll get results when he goes ‘that was a world-class fill’ or ‘that beat fucking sucks’. His honesty and flair for detail really raised the level of our sound. And he had a great coffee-machine.”

Montreal based death metallers Neuraxis have finished writing for their upcoming album. The band has now offered a final update before entering the Wildsound Studio next week with producer Chris Donaldson to start the recording process for the upcoming 6th studio album.
Vocalist Alex Leblanc comments: “Time for an update... First of all, the writing is finished. We decided to add an extra song and I love it. A brutal, in-your-face song that’s going to surprise a lot of people. Overall this album has a much darker and twisted feeling that will bring shivers down your spines. Rob really outdid himself writing the new album. His ideas are sick, his riffing is more intense than ever and his songwriting is just better overall. I think this album is really going to make him shine and put him among one of the best in his genre.
"Tiger (Oli Beaudoin) is preparing himself like a madman. He's doing cardio, weight training, physiotherapy and practicing the songs every day, sometimes even twice a day. I have never seen a drummer being so intense towards his preparation for a studio session. He really came up with sick beats for the new album, really bringing the intensity of the songs up a notch.
"Fetus (Oli Pinard) is bringing the bass to a whole new level in this band. He's very skilled and understands exactly what he has to do, putting just the right amount to complement the guitar work while throwing a few curve balls here and there. Bass enthusiasts will love what he's doing on our new record. More...

Modern metal outfit Dark Age has come up with a new way to create a music video. Via their MySpace page, they have asked their fans to submit video clips of "yourself going crazy" to the song "10 Steps to Nausea," off their most recent full length "Acedia." Once Dark Age has compiled the clips they will construct a full music video out of them. The full post is below:
We are launching a very special video contest and we need your help!!!
We are planning to do a videoclip for the song "10 Steps to Nausea" from our current album ACEDIA.
Different from the normal (and usually boring) performance clips you see every day we want our fans to be a part of the clip.
- How? -
Just switch on your webcam (or a digi cam) and film yourself going crazy to "10 Steps to Nausea". Use your imagination, YOU can do a crazy performance clip alone or with your friends or even go outdoors and film something crazy. Whatever comes to your mind is welcome.
After filming the stuff please inform us at firstname.lastname@example.org with a short discription of your video.
We will get back to you with further instructions.
Please DO NOT send anything without notification!
After receiving your filmed material we want to compile all the stuff and hope to present you a very unique clip including YOU!
So, tell it to your friends, switch on your cam and let the madness beginn!!!
We are really looking foreward to your ideas!

Canadian metallers Evil Survives has checked in with the following announcement about recruiting a new bassist:
"As some of our fans might or might not know our original line-up has come to it's end. Spence created amazing music for this band for the 3 years he was with Evil Survives. There was no bitterness in his departure, he also gave plenty of notice before our last tour out west with Archon Legion and FYL that he would be leaving us. All of us in Evil Survives shall always remember Spencer for being a maniac on stage, his incredible attire, and his sheer brilliance for finger picking bass mastery.
"You can still hear him with his Stoner rock band Caniform with Karl on vocals (They fucking rule). We will never forget all the good and the bad times we have had with you brother, and wish you all the best. After much talk amongst the band we knew we needed a very skilled finger picker to fill his shoes. Wecome Eric Weiss (ex Port Amoral, The Cast) to the Evil Survives fold.
"This man knows much musical theory, and classical finger picking. Our first show with him will be with Prophet, Seventh Sin, and Striker at the Albert May 29th. More news coming soon, we will be taking a break after this show to focus on writing and allow Eric to learn all our tracks. Cheers and thanks everyone for your support."
In a lengthy post to their MySpace Page, modern metal super group Solution .45 has announced that second guitarist Jani has decided to quit the band. The band and Jani have split on good terms, and Jani may even contribute some to Solution .45's next album. Jani will be replaced by Patrik Gardberg (Torchbearer, The Few Against Many, Ammotrack). The band's full post can be read below and after the jump:
At the release of our debut album, "For Aeons Past", which we all have worked so very hard on, we have to deliver some sad news to you all. For personal reasons, Jani has decided to part ways with both SOLUTION .45 and MISERATION.
Jani’s official statement can be found right here:
“For several years I have been working with many talented musicians and done many albums in a very short period of time. Music is my passion, but over the last year or so, I have felt that I want to focus more on quality time with friends and family. I do not intend to quit music, but at this point I feel that I am not ready to commit to these bands as much as would be necessary. I just feel that my personal life is striving for something else than the rest of the guys in Solution .45 and Miseration. There´s absolutely no bad blood between us and I do wish both bands great success, cause they are really good, with nothing but quality people in them. Us parting ways has consequently notning to do with musical- or personal differences, or anything like that for that matter. I just feel that this is not my place to be right now. I am very satisfied with the result of both the Solution .45 debut album and the latest one from Miseration and do feel that I can leave with my head held up high." More...
Germany's Stormwarrior has checked in with the following recap of recent live shows and information about an upcoming live DVD:
"Stormwarrior headlined the Saarbangers Metal Festival near Saarbrücken on Sat. 22.05. We would like to express our thanks to the warriors traveling from France, Belgium and the UK to see the show.
"Though we are mainly staying focused on the follow-up to 'Heading Northe' at this point in time, the Festival on Saturday has reawakened our appetite for being on stage. Within the next couple of days we will announce a few extra Stormwarrior appearances for this Summer. After a long period of repositioning, we have also decided on the label we will team up with for the future. We will update you on that shortly, as soon as the last formalities are in place.
"Further great news is that the Live DVD 'If It’s Not In Your Bloode… You Will Never Understande!' is now completely ready for the final video cut, which means that the official release date is drawing very near. We know you all have been waiting for a very long time now and we’re really sorry about that, but there are certain processes in this universe that simply are beyond our influence."

KATAKLYSM had to cancel their appearance at this year's installment of the Wacken Open Air Festival. Here's a statement from the band:
"Unfortunately because of our extremely tight schedule between the new album, EX DEO's euro tour, 'Heavy Mtl open air' and Ozzfest all jammed together this summer, we just can't make the trip to Wacken this year. The organizers have been kind enough to rebook us for the next Wacken in 2011…of course if the world still exists, so we apologize to all you maniacs that wanted to see us destroy Wacken this year…you`ll have to wait til next year!", comments the band.
The release of the brand new KATAKLYSM album "Heaven's Venom" is set for August 20, 2010.
Hydrogyn has issued the following in response to the untimely death's of Ronnie James Dio and Paul Gray:
"It's been a bittersweet past couple of weeks here in camp Hydrogyn. Firstly, we are deeply saddened by the passing of our mentor and dear friend, Ronnie James Dio. As a member of Megadeth, Jeff Young was fortunate to share much of the U.S. "Dream Evil" tour with the band Dio. Hydrogyn co-guitarist, Jeff Westlake was also a close friend of the "King of Rock-n-Roll" having had the rare opportunity to film & record many classic Black Sabbath and Dio concerts around the globe, with Ronnie's blessing. As you can imagine, we've been pouring through those very DVD & VHS archives over the past days, reminded in no uncertain terms, of this artist's true genius.
"We all shared many personal times with Ronnie and he was always the consummate gentleman and professional. Often overlooked, his sense of humor and wit were among his most charming and disarming character traits. Hydrogyn has covered "Rainbow in the Dark" in their concerts from the onset and we have all learned from the master via the many Dio and Black Sabbath songs played in various cover bands from our youth. This is not only a huge loss to the world of music and metal but a definitive blow to humanity.
"As we are in the home stretch of the recording and mixing process for our new album, we can't help but feel Ronnie's influence and presence looming over us and all around us, larger than life. We understand that we are just a handful of the countless musicians that Ronnie has influenced so, we consider the fact that we were blessed to know him, a priceless gift, never to be forgotten.
"We are also a band that's been touched by cancer on the home front as a result of Jeff Young's personal battles with "the monster." We urge those seeking to honor Ronnie's memory in some way, please donate to the Lance Armstrong Foundation's efforts to wipe out cancer: livestrong.org
"On another note, as fans of the band Slipknot - we are further dismayed to learn the news of bassist Paul Gray's untimely passing. Although we didn't have the fortune to meet the man, we enjoyed his musical contributions and he will surely be missed by many. We are glad that our musical cohort, James LoMenzo has stepped in to fill the shoes of Mr. Gray on the upcoming series of concert dates with the band, Hail. It's a wonderful thing that our musical brotherhood can merge together at times like these and support each other in a unified effort to carry the torch of hard rock and metal in a positive direction.
"Long live rock-n-roll!
