Florida act Crimson Glory has recruited Todd La Torre as the band's new vocalist and front man. Lead guitarist Jon Drenning says, "We (the band) all sat down and discussed the idea, and all agreed that Todd was a perfect fit. He embodies so many of the qualities that made Midnight a superb singer/songwriter, but luckily he isn't haunted by the demons that so plagued Mid, eventually causing his death. In Todd, we have found a healthy, light-hearted, happy-go-lucky character with a winning personality and a true love and passion for what he does and the music he creates. He amazed us from the get-go, and it is the general opinion of the band that, with Todd La Torre, Crimson Glory will sound as good, if not better than ever.
"We as a band have had the opportunity to work with some extremely talented singers (Midnight, David Van Landing and Wade Black). Ultimately we agreed that a relatively unknown singer would be beneficial; Todd is a blank canvas in the sense that he doesn't have any other prior musical history that could affect the overall sound that defines Crimson Glory. The fact that he is a local talent with exceptional vocal and strong writing skills made this the ideal situation and most suitable to our creative endeavors for the future."
Bassist Jeff Lords comments, "It's refreshing to know that in a highly competitive industry, one that is seemingly operating in an uncaring, indifferent universe, that plain ol' good luck can come around at just the right time, as Todd is the perfect addition to Crimson Glory, and he is someone with whom I truly look forward to collaborating."
Drummer Dana Burnell adds, "I feel great about Todd joining the band. His ability to sing the vintage songs is unmatched. I've had the pleasure of hearing him sing over some of our original recorded tracks as well as in rehearsals, where the very first night he blew me away. Since Midnight's death, myself and the other surviving members of Crimson Glory have really strengthened our bond; we are closer than we've ever been, and now with the addition of Todd I'm extremely excited about the band's future." It has just been announced that Alice Cooper has begun working on a new album to be produced by Bob Ezrin as part of a new joint venture with Bigger Picture Group. Ezrin commented on the collaboration: "I am delighted to be back in business with Alice Cooper and Shep Gordon’s Alive Enterprises and our whole company is over the moon about this collaboration. This is not a record deal but rather a partnership that involves virtually all aspects of Alice’s ever-expanding universe. And it’s a reunion with the first artist I ever produced and the first great manager I ever worked with. I couldn’t be happier.”
A tour themed to tie in with the album, the concept of which is being kept under wraps for the moment, is being planned in support of the release. Alice Cooper remarked, “It feels great to be working with Bob again and the entire Bigger Picture team have been tremendously supportive. Lightning has struck more than once in the past with Bob’s involvement so we feel great that we’re onto something really electrifying now that we’re together again. The album we’re crafting is, in some ways, a ‘shriekquel’ to what’s gone before and there’s no better guy to oversee things than Bob.” More...

"So if you enjoy some fast, crusty, chaotic noise served with a side of nihilism, we'd love to get one of these bad boys out your way. Send your details to: thedowngoing [at] hotmail [dot] com and we can post one out to you. We're charging ten dollars for it, bit more if postage requires it. The CD should also be available at some select music retailers around Sydney soon, so more info on that when I get it sorted."

New Hampshire black metal act Vintage Flesh has issued the following update about recording new material:
"Our first Sunday of recording is in the bag. The body bag... We have begun with the drumming tracks as do most bands in this procedure. This time around is different due to the fact that we are no longer a three piece. Raypissed the vocalist has taken on drum duty. 6 songs were covered that day on drums and we may have a couple re-do's and four more to complete all the drum tracks. Then its on to Hex and his fearful attack on the strings.
"Much budd and good New England brewed Beer is being consumed for the entire process. As it should be... We will be coming here to keep who ever cares up on the progress of this, our sophomore project? I don't know, its our second full length and it promises to over shadow the last with the black shades of Dunwich HORROR! More to come next Sunday."
Defect Designer has issued the following statement about the band's reaction to news of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray's death:
"Today I opened my Facebook to find out Paul Gray was found dead. Same month as today I was sitting in front of my monitor with mouth open because it was hard to believe Ronnie James Dio passed away. I remember I was reading news about recovery and successful surgery. Even now when I listen to latest records I cannot believe this powerful man is sixty-something years. Charming smile. Planning tours at 67 is a deed!
"Before this Peter Steele passed and it is such a sorrow to listen his unique voice and know this is the end, he has his very last record. Dismal and beautiful his music is. Unbearable. Today again I cannot believe what I see in news blog. I cannot believe it can be true that band member of a band that influenced us so much is no more, that a person who influenced our bass player and probably made him take a bass guitar is gone. Can it be true because this is something that can't fit our minds? Why do our icons die? Why do they start dying?"

The band comments, "What gets inside always stays inside. This music once shaped us and the marks it left will forever keep itching. Desultory never died, it just went down deep below and beneath the surface it slowly kept growing. Throughout the years, there are many of you out there who never stopped waiting, asking the same question over and over. Now when we finally meet again, 'Counting Our Scars' feels like liberation, the bleeding is over. This album is for all of us who never stopped waiting."
Nocturnal Rites has announced their new guitarist as Chris Rörland. The band has posted the following video introducing him to their fans:
We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Nashville Pussy guitarist Ruyter shares their own tale from the
Nashville Pussy was playing the Electric Lounge in Austin, Texas. Our drummer Jeremy's awesome parents were in attendance and his father doesn't ever swear so Blaine told the audience he'd asked Jeremy's dad if he minded that we'd be cussing that night on stage and Jeremy's father responded, "you should cuss even more tonight." Everyone laughed. Especially Jeremy's parents cause Blaine just made that story up on the spot.
The place was sold out and packed solid. The stage was only about 3 feet off the floor and some drunk woman in front of me was laying half way on the stage and grabbing at my monitor. She kept clinging to it like a life preserver and kind of jerking it back and forth across the stage with the beat and driving me Nuts! I was about to boot her in the head and get her the fuck off my monitor when I noticed the guy behind her had her skirt up over her back and was f*cking her from behind. I remember looking at the happy couple then quickly scanning the crowd to find Jeremy's parents standing at the back with big smiles on their faces.
That's my best Pit story. Fun for all ages.
Nashville Pussy is currently on tour in the apparently aptly named Parental Advisory tour with Green Jelly and Psychostick. Check out a report from one stop here and an interview with Ruyter here.
Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

We pass Lyon on the way home and will use the equipment of the local support. Maybe we can go home and get new equipment for the Holland shows and come back but this is still uncertain. A list of ALL things stolen will be presented here together with the Police report. More details on this soon… To our Spanish and Portuguese fans we are extremely sorry but we have NO chance of making it with everything being stolen."

As was reported yesterday, Slipknot bass player Paul Gray was found dead in a Urbandale, Iowa hotel room at around 10:50 yesterday morning, with the cause of death currently unknown. Several of his peers have posted tributes online, including a video message from Munky of Korn. You can check out the tributes below.
Brian Fair (Shadows Fall): "I'm so crushed to hear about the passing of Paul Gray. I had the pleasure of first getting to know him on a press trip to New York City before our tour with Slipknot and Lamb Of God in 2005 and then sharing stages and good times with him and the boys around the world. He was a great musician, an underrated songwriter and a truly warm soul underneath the evil mask he rocked onstage. This is a huge loss to the metal world. He will be missed deeply."
