Veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers HEATHEN are tentatively scheduled to ener the studio in October/November 2007 to begin recording their new album. The as-yet-untitled effort is expected to be released in March 2008 via Holland's Mascot Records.
As many fans will recall, HEATHEN were one of the most unique bands to rise from the Bay Area thrash explosion of the '80s/'90s, having released a groundbreaking debut album, "Breaking the Silence", in 1987 went on to sell close to 100,000 copies worldwide.
Reborn six years ago, the band are now looking to rise up once more and reclaim the throne of thrash metal.
HEATHEN's entire 2005 demo is available for free download at this location. The tracks featured on the demo are "Empty Nothingness", "Dying Season" and "Arrows of Agony".
GORGOROTH's video for the song "Carving a Giant" has been posted online at this location.
The "Carving a Giant" clip made its debut on MTV Norway's "Headbanger's Ball" last Sunday, May 20. The track comes off GORGOROTH's latest CD, "Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam", which was released last year via Sweden's Regain Records.
An in-depth report on the "Carving a Giant" video shoot is available at Imhotep.
GORGOROTH guitarist Infernus was recently released on parole after serving time for aggravated sexual assault in connection with an alleged rape of a 29-year-old woman in Bergen, Norway in 2004.
Infernus and a friend (whose identity has not been revealed by the Norwegian media) were found guilty in 2005 of raping the woman. They were both sentenced to three years in prison. In January 2006, the court of appeals upheld Tiegs' friend's rape conviction, but found no evidence to support the rape charge against the GORGOROTH guitarist.
GORGOROTH frontman Gaahl was released from the Norwegian prison in December after being jailed since the spring of 2006.
Hong Kong's Trinity Records has announced the signing of Finnish occult propaganda metallers SOLIUM XI. "Litanies unto Adversary", the band's full-length debut, has already been recorded, and will shortly be mixed and mastered for a late 2007 release.
Commented the group: "When an occasional listener hears us play for the first time, one may think that SOLIUM XI is a black metal band, and yes, that is true in some cases. There is no need however to make any assumptions whether SOLIUM XI belongs to that genre or some other. This is music through which channel our profound ideals and thoughts. Although there still are bands and strong individuals that are practicing what they preach and therefore worthy to be treated as comrades, we ourselves like to keep distance to the modern black metal politics, which especially nowadays is one-sided and artificial. We do not however give up our genuine left-path message!"
SOLIUM XI is:

Open Grave Records has announced the latest acquisition to the label, BLACKMASS. BLACKMASS hails from Brazil and has been an active band in the black metal community since 2001. Founded by Lord Aeshma, BLACKMASS is a catalyst of "extreme technical abilities, blasphemy and fast compositions."
Band members of BLACKMASS include: Lord Aeshma (guitars), Magnus Dux Adramelech (vocals and bass), and Verberibis Necare (drums). After working diligently on their past aural assaults, including "Gloria Diaboli", it was only natural for them to take it a step further to make the brutal and blasphemous new release, entitled "Nemesis".
BLACKMASS will go into the studio in the coming months to record its latest CD, to be released by Open Grave Records in December 2007. The proposed track listing for "Nemesis" is as follows:
01. Wondrous Hell's Flames
03. Long Knives Rain
05. Bleeding Heaven's Angels
06. Midnight Bloody Skies
08. Burn It Down
09. Armoured Legions
10. Fierce Plague
11. Torve Morte

In other news, HIGH ON FIRE has announced a number of tour dates following the recording session. The band will perform a number of shows throughout the Midwest U.S. during the latter part of July. Another new STILL REMAINS track, entitled "The Wax Walls of an Empty Room", has been posted on the band's MySpace page. Also available at the same location is the previously released cut "Aenima in Your Sheets". Both songs come off the Michigan band's second studio album, "The Serpent", due on July 31 via Roadrunner Records.
STILL REMAINS entered a Los Angeles studio on January 21 with acclaimed producer Steve Evetts (STORY OF THE YEAR, HE IS LEGEND, SAVES THE DAY), to begin the recording process for "The Serpent". "Expect the unexpected with 'The Serpent', as these songs are faster, darker, heavier and more melodic; truly the most honest thing we have ever written as a band," commented band frontman TJ Miller. Finnish/Swedish symphonic metal band NIGHTWISH has released three more samples from its forthcoming album, due in September. In addition to first single, "Eva", you can now check out short clips of the songs "7 Days to the Wolves", "Master Passion Greed" and "Amaranth":
NIGHTWISH recently recruited 35-year-old Swedish singer Anette Blyckert (a.k.a. Anette Olzon) to replace the group's original vocalist Tarja Turunen. A photo of the new frontwoman can be found here. A short video "greeting" from Anette is available for download at this location (MPEG, 5 MB).
Virginia's Fjord (Eulogy Recordings) has parted ways with singer Matt Tarpey (ex-Winter Solstice). The band comments:
"We want to be more of a full-time band. We really want to tour more and get our name out. So we mutually decided that finding another singer was the best way to go. Matt will always be our friend, there is no bad blood. He's talking about going back to school and without a doubt will pop-up later in another band. We appreciate anyone that has shown us support these last couple of years and truly hope we aren't alienating anyone with this decision. We are still booking shows starting in late-July and hope to see you all soon."
The band is seeking a replacement for Tarpey. Interested parties can contact them at email@example.com.
SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM's forthcoming album, titled "In Glorious Times" (out May 29, 2007 on The End Records) is being streamed exclusively on MP3.com starting today (Friday, May 25). Check it out at this location.

Former From A Second Story Window guitarist Derek Vasconi has started a new band called The Mysterious Plan of God. A rough demo can be heard here. Anyone interested in booking the band should contact them via that same link. Vasconi has released the following statement:
"This band is not a copy of what I did in From A Second Story Window. I have decided, after the past year, to play some music with some old friends and combine the very best of singing with hardcore and metal and see what happens. I still plan on going absolutely crazy live though, and yeah, I know, so many bands try this, but give us a listen anyways. Our SOLE purpose is to tour and play shows and connect with others and try to be an example of community for anyone who attends our shows. I want to incorporate what hardcore means to me, and it has always been synonymous with the idea of a community and creating a place of acceptance and love. We are looking to get on the road and never come home, and I sincerely hope that everyone will get behind this project. I know it's another band to adopt and make your own, but do it. We are sincere, and in hardcore and metal, that's all that truly matters."
