Connecticut band Desert Storm Mafia are one of the most chaotic bands to have ever come from the state of Connecticut. Having only been assembled for a year, the band has already established a small but loyal internet following. Metal Underground has had the pleasure of talking to the band's drummer Andrew Dellarco. Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week I am exploring the New Jersey extreme metal scene.
The extreme metal scene in New Jersey is hard to find, but it's there. I find that most of them like to hide under the radar and remain underground. the bands I'm featuring here aren't that kind. these are the ones looking to make their foot print in the scene by doing something a little different in their own way. There are too many bands around that do the same song over and over again with different lyrics and in a different key or tempo. More...
Los Angeles, CA’s Abysmal Dawn has recently begun recording the follow-up album to the band's Relapse debut "Programmed To Consume" at Trench Studios in Corona, CA with John Haddad. The album will be mixed by Erik Rutan at his Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL. A fall release date is expected.
Abysmal Dawn's Charles Elliot issued the following update: "We recently wrapped up recording drums at Trench Studios and the final product is incredible! I think we really got some amazing tones this time and Scott delivered an amazing over the top drum performance. Our music has definitely become more demanding technically and Scott really stepped things up in the drum department. We really wanted to get a natural drum sound so the guys in Reciprocal were kind enough to let us rent their top of the line Pearl kit from them. Thanks a lot guys!
"Right now I’m currently laying down all the rhythm guitar tracks with Mike Bear at Artisan Road Studios in Encino, CA. For those of you that are keeping track, Mike played bass on our first album 'From Ashes' and played a few shows locally with us in the early days. I’ve known Mike since our bands first played together with Death at the Whiskey in ’98 while I was still in high school. We became friends soon after and he even filled in on bass for my old band Inhuman Visions back then. Recording my guitar tracks with him has been a true pleasure and his attention to detail is impeccable. Mike Cosio also started tracking bass with him recently and his know-how of the instrument has really helped Mike’s performance shine. Can’t wait to send everything to Erik Rutan to put the finishing touches on things. This will be the tightest and best Abysmal Dawn record yet!”
On last weekend's Whittier, CA show Detroit deathcore act And Hell Followed With were unable to unleash their brand of Murder City mayhem as the show was shut down by the police before the band had even played a note. "A local band started playing and at some point during their set, the cops came in shut the show down;" said And Hell Followed With guitarist, Kyle McIlmurray. "We think it had to do something about the venue not having an entertainment permit, but we like to joke that it was because the show was too heavy for the place to handle."
Saturday's show, originally slated to be held in a different venue at a nearby location was moved due to the original venue's sudden closing. Despite the circumstances, Kyle and the rest of his band seemed to take it all as a very pleasant experience. "It was good to be hanging around such professionals. The promoter was cool about it all and took care of us and once everything was handled, we were just stoked to be able to hang around Hollywood with the other bands. They're all good guys so it was a fun night out. We all just went and made the best of it with them."
And Hell Followed With has the following upcoming tour dates: More...
Greek metallers Rotting Christ have checked in with the following statement about their recent European tour dates:
"Rotting Christ would like to send their blessings to all their left hand path walkers for their fantastic reaction they showed to our band's recent European tour. We have the feeling that our new songs have already been nailed deep in your soul and this force our band to start already working on the second part of its European tour that will take part in Fall.
"Also a special reference to Bolt Thrower and their crew for providing really anti-rock star lessons useful for the fully and successful realization of this tour. The underground attitude is still alive and we look forward to meeting you all brothers and sisters in Fall… The flame is still burning!"
The upcoming Rotting Christ tour dates are as follows: More...

The webisode documents this experience start to finish, which can be viewed below.
Darkest Hour guitar player Mike Schleibaum commented: "We couldn't have been more excited to reach out and do something special for the people that continue to support us. Special thanks to Adam and his family for making it such a great way to end that touring cycle. We're hard at work on our E1 Music debut and look forward to unleashing these new tunes!
Psycroptic is currently hard at work on writing material for the follow up to the band's Nuclear Blast Records debut "Ob(Servant)." The band will be writing the new record right up until their U.S. tour with Egyptian themed metal act Nile, the ancient Roman themed arsenal Ex Deo, Norwegian extreme metallers Keep of Kalessin, and death grinders Pathology.
Psycroptic guitarist Joe Haley commented: “We're half way through the writing process for the new Psycroptic album, and everything is going great. The songs are coming together really naturally - nothing sounds forced, and we're really excited to start recording this one. The material is the strongest and most memorable we have written. I know every band says this but if it wasn’t true there wouldn’t be a point in us recording it! The Demoing process will begin in the next few weeks. We hope to have everything finished up before we head out on the last touring for Ob(Servant). Which brings us to the other news we have - we'll be supporting Nile through the US later this year. We're really happy to be have been extended the invitation to tour with NILE once again - they are an amazing band, and are a pleasure to tour with.”

Killswitch Engage has just posted the video for "Save Me," which is the ninth track on their recent self-titled full length. The video can be found at Crave Online. The band is pretty excited about it:
Guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz said "This was my favorite video shoot EVER! It took like 1/2 an hour, and we were turned into clay. And who doesn't like claymation and space aliens? They didn't like my suggestion of turning me into a blood-thirsty pterodactyl with laser eyes at the end of the vid, but it's cool. Thanks to all who worked wicked hard on this video...it looks sweet."
And drummer Justin Foley added "If you are going to follow in anybody's footsteps, it may as well be Green Jello, right? With the "Save Me" video, we have finally achieved a band goal that we've been striving for a long, long time; shooting a video that we do not appear in. We also get to go into outer space."
Killswitch Engage released the most recent self-titled album in June of 2009.

Paul Gray was born in the city of Los Angeles, California but his family would later relocate to Des Moines, Iowa. He began his music career as a member of such bands as Anal Blast and Vexx, amongst others.
He was one of only three founding members of Slipknot to remain in the recent lineup of the band, along with percussionist Shawn Crahan and drummer Joey Jordison. Canada's Hoarfrost recently parted ways with guitarist Brett Goodchild. Vocalist Ryan Suche has now issued the following statement about the split:
"Hails to the Frost Legion! A chapter of Hoarfrost is coming to a solemn close today, for we are announcing the official resignation of Brett Goodchild, our longtime guitarist, backing vocalist and friend. Our return to the stage last week was mixed with a certain sense of urgency, as the day before Brett had broken the news to us that he was intending to leave the band after our next few shows had been played. We took that straight on the chin and then gave it our all on Thursday night. I don't think we've had so many compliments about a show before that.
"So, that's that. To see Hoarfrost with our current line-up, you have two opportunities in June until we (yet again) take another few months off from the stage to sort out who will fill this vacancy in our line-up. We thank you all for your support and understanding and we hope to be back on stage before the year is out. If you are a guitarist and would like to try out for the band, here is all the information you'll need. Hails!"

On June 8th, Chicago metallers Cardiac Arrest will release their Ibex Moon Records debut, "Haven For The Insane." Drummer "Grindhead" Jim Deabenderfer issued the follow statemetn regarding the release of the album:
"We are very proud of this record, and couldn't be happier with the initial press response. The metal community has been very supportive of us in the past, but the reception of HFTI so far has been a welcome surprise. Die hard CA fans should love what we have in store for them with this one, and new listeners are also in for a treat. This isn't a death metal record for the squeamish - it's a statement that aggressive, low end death metal is alive and well. Ibex Moon has put together a phenomenal package for the disc, with a bonus DVD that we think is a step above most of the ones being put out these days. We hope everyone enjoys this release, and we look forward to a future filled with ROT."
Shortly after the release of "Haven For The Insane," Cardiac Arrest will join Ibex Moon Records label mates Gravehill and Hod on the Campaign For Death Metal Purity 2010 tour. Kicking off July 2nd in Portland, OR, this tour was designed for the sole purpose of taking death metal back to its roots. Guitarist Tom Knizner had this to say regarding the upcoming tour: More...
