Bay Area thrashers LIGHT THIS CITY will be touring heavily this summer in anticipation of the band's forthcoming record. The band will hit the road beginning July 14 with Suicide Silence, All Shall Perish, Too Pure To Die, and Nights Like These, wrapping up in early September.
The follow-up to 2005's 'Remains of the Gods' is currently scheduled for a Sept. 12 release through Prosthetic Records. Having returned to the studio in March, LIGHT THIS CITY again met up at Castle Ultimate Studios in Emeryville, CA with producer Zach Ohren (Animosity, All Shall Perish) for recording and have enlisted Mario Garza (Hell Within, He Is Legend) of Robot Plague for the album's artwork. Both assisted in the recording and designing for 'Remains of the Gods,' as well. The Black Dahlia Murder's Trevor Strnad makes a guest vocal appearance on a song from the new record called "Fear of Heights."

KING'S X frontman Doug Pinnick has issued the following statement in response to rumors that the band were on the verge of breaking up:
"I wish I could set down and answer all the questions, and speculations. I will try to make light of some of the things said and suggested. You guys are wonderful so please dont take anything I say as negative or bitching... There's no anger here... just love.
"Here goes... We never fit in; no matter what we do, we can't get the masses on board, and we've done everything there is. I know you all have suggestions of what we could do do get more successful, but we have done everything there is to do! Or at least inquired about it all... We just can't get the folks on board. Woodstock '94 we played for 300 thousand people, and the next week on SoundScan we sold about 200 CDs. Then the week later nothing to comment on.... The rest of the bands on the bill — JACKYL, SHERYL CROW, LIVE, CANDLEBOX, etc. — sold millions!!! We got the best slot of the day, and USA Today, Howard Stern, MTV said we were the best band that day! We sold nothing... and it changed my life. I cut my hair and almost gave up! Plus I was going through midlife crisis. I started getting panic attacks and got blinded by my self-hate. 'Ear Candy' was the result. More...
There's been a bit of an ongoing verbal war between the infamous hardcore thrash metal act from Bronx, New York called Irate and the west coast I.R.A.T.E. - over the ownership of well, the Irate group moniker. My past interview with Erik Ulrich of the latter mentioned I.R.A.T.E. - who are currently travelling across the country with The Project Independent Tour - stirred up literal blood dripping over the curbs into the streets from the anger and frustration expressed by the New York Irate's devoted legion of fans. I wanted to be fair and give both sides a chance to tell their story. Jeff Totten of Project Independent has already spoken on his band's behalf in concern with this over-heated issue and now I give that opportunity to the other Irate and hopefully we can finally bury this battle six feet under. I personally thank Nando and Nick from NYC Irate for being real standup and giving me the honor of discussing not just the name ownership situation - but also giving all of us true metalers a bit more history of their band and what is to come from them as they move forward in life. I respect both sides, for I am merely a rock journalist who loves metal music and at the end of the day on all of this, I hope that's what we walk away talking about: music not destruction. Maybe the White house could learn a thing or two from this themselves.
Sweden's ISOLE have uploaded audio samples of all seven tracks that will appear on their sophomore album, "Throne of Void", due on June 23 via I Hate Records. You can check them out at this location.
The follow-up to 2005's "Forevermore", "Throne of Void" reportedly features "a slightly rawer and heavier sound" (both production- and music-wise) than its predecessor.
ISOLE recently released a 7" vinyl single, "The Beyond", through I Hate. The single marked the group's first recording with new drummer Jonas Lindström, who is also a member of the death metal quartet WITHERED BEAUTY and black metal quintet UNDIVINE. The single's title cut, "The Beyond", was described in a press release as "a relatively up-tempo scorcher of a song" while "Beyond the Black II" was said to be "a really slow piece of mournful epic doom." Despite borrowing its title from the debut album track, "Beyond the Black II" doesn’t have much in common with its namesake, being much slower and with only some parts recognizable from its name predecessor.
Swedish death metallers VISCERAL BLEEDING have parted ways with guitarist Marcus Nilsson. Marcus commented: "It's been an interesting and exhilarating ride, that's for sure, but I feel my lack of commitment to the band at this point will likely only hold the other guys back. I therefore step aside to let someone else join forces and strengthen the VISCERAL momentum for future brutalization! My musical endeavors do not end here though. I will never put down the guitar and will continue exploring the vast realm of music, indefinitely. I wish VISCERAL BLEEDING the best of luck and hope they will succeed in whatever they aspire to! I'd like to thank all the people I have met through the band, for their support and good times: Cheers to you all!"
The remaining members of VISCERAL BLEEDING would like to make clear that there are absolutely no hard feelings involved towards Marcus or vice versa. Guitarist Peter Persson added: "Marcus remains a very close friend to us all, we go way back and share a lot of history and VISCERAL BLEEDING wishes him the best of luck with everything he decides to put his focus on in the future." Martin Germ Bermheden (ENSHRINED) will be filling the vacant spot as the group's lead guitarist and will appear on their upcoming CD.
VISCERAL BLEEDING are expected to enter the studio in the summer to record the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2004's "Transcend Into Ferocity", tentatively due before the end of the year.
Swedish extreme metallers DISSECTION have announced that they will be splitting up imediately following their final performances in support of their newly released CD "Reinkaos". In an interview published on the band's official forum, the band's mainman Jon Nödtveidt stated, "What we have in front of us now are a few extremely select concerts that will mark the end of DISSECTION, out of which the Dissection Midsummer Massacre in Sweden on the 24th of June will be the only European concert, as well as the last. We will also make our first and last concert in Israel, as well as two final concerts on the American continent. More...

BLOODSIMPLE feature in their ranks former members of VISION OF DISORDER, DOWNSET and MEDICATION. The group's debut album, "A Cruel World", was released in March 2005 on MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray's Bullygoat label imprint (via Warner Bros.). Swedish death metallers VOMITORY will headline the Stonehenge festival in the Netherlands on July 29. This will probably be the band's only live appearance this summer.
VOMITORY are currently busy writing material for the follow-up to 2004's "Primal Massacre" and have reportedly completed "about one third/half" of the songs for the upcoming CD. Newcomer Peter Östlund (guitar) has contributed with two songs so far, one of which is said to be "in the typical VOMITORY vein" and the other "a bit heavier than the usual VOMITORY song." Tobias Gustafsson (drums) has written three songs so far but has four more in the works at the moment. Erik Rundqvist (bass and vocals) is solely focusing on writing the lyrics.
VOMITORY's fifth album, "Primal Massacre", was released in April 2004 through Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2002's "Blood Rapture" was recorded at Studio Kuling in Örebro, Sweden and was mixed at Berno Studio.

In what is big news in Europe, a heavy metal band whose members have been accused of being devil worshippers has won the Eurovision Song Contest, shattering the competition's traditional image. The band from Finland performed its song dressed like characters from a horror movie.
The Eurovision Song Contest has never seen or heard anything quite like this before. But the Finnish band Lordi stormed through their set, demolishing their opponents and the bland reputation of the contest in one fell swoop: and when the votes of viewers and listeners from around Europe and beyond were finally counted up, Lordi had won an easy victory. Even the band leader himself, Mr Lordi, seemed stunned by what they'd achieved. (BBC)
Mr Lordi: "We feel great, think about it, this is weird, this is strange this is interesting. You know think about it, we're a rock band and we just won the pop song contest. That is weird and also Finland won which is kind of nice."
He also hailed the result as "a victory for open-mindedness."
From the moment Lordi won eight points at the start of the voting, Finns watched incredulously as the band continued to lead the field until it hit an all-time Eurovision high of 292 points – more than 40 ahead of Russia. (Belfast Today)
This was indeed a big victory for Finland, which first entered the contest more than forty years ago, but until now had always come away empty-handed.
Since March, when Lordi won the contest for the Finnish entry, many in the highly self-conscious nation feared that the band would damage the country's reputation. Lordi's piece was heatedly debated and the group's exploits regularly hit tabloid headlines. Band leader Mr Lordi said the group may have changed the face of Eurovision for good. "This is proof that there were rock fans watching Eurovision," he said in Athens.
The show attracted a peak viewing audience of 10.8m viewers, or 50% of the total audience, half-an-hour before the contest finale, according to unofficial overnight figures. The contest averaged 8.2m viewers throughout the duration of the show, which was broadcast between 8pm and 11pm.
Finland will now host the 2007 competition.

Karnal Film Productions has completed work on what it claims is "the world's first black metal porn movie." Entitled "Phallusifer – The Immoral Code", the theme of the film is "something never done before: Hardcore porn with hints of S&M and Satanic imagery starring the Harlot Queen as herself and a frontman of a known black metal band whose identity will remain anonymous, and the soundtrack is mainly comprised of decadent black metal music," reads a press release. "I am now contemplating on which bands' music to use for the movie," stated the director (who is the frontman/axeman of yet another black metal band and who wishes to remain anonymous for the time being).
Karnal Film Productions are looking and talking with distribution companies/record companies that will be able to make this film available to the extreme metal masses. All interested parties — be it labels, bands, actors and people who want to get their hands on this DVD — get in touch. All information, including still shots of the movie and a short teaser/preview, can be found at karnalfilm.com. (NOTE: Must be 18 or older to view this material; definitely not work-safe).
