The Cory Smoot Experiment was recorded in 2010 at Corys Karma Studios, where GWAR, Municipal Waste, and many others have laid down tracks. The songs were originally meant for a concept album called "Religion is Fiction" featuring several guest musicians, and unfortunately this didn't happen due to scheduling problems, but that didn't mean the end of the project. Cory went ahead and recorded the vocals himself and re-named the project The Cory Smoot Experiment, completing the entire package just before his final tour with GWAR in the fall of 2011.
Today GuitarWorld.com is hosting an exclusive premiere of a track from "When Worlds Collide." Get a first listen to the song "Mutilation" at this location.
After his passing, GWAR and Metal Blade set up the Smoot Family Fund to help provide for Cory's family. All proceeds from this album will be donated to this fund. Metal Blade Records Chairman and CEO Brian Slagel commented on the album's release:
"Metal Blade Records is donating all the proceeds of the Cory Smoot solo album to the Smoot family. Please help us by getting the CD and enjoying the immense talent he was."
Dave Brockie, a.k.a. Odrus Urungus, lead singer of GWAR shared his memories of Cory: "Cory Smoot is one of the great unsung heroes of metal. His musical abilities transformed GWAR from a splatter-thrash phenomena into a top metal act. And though he may have left us way too early, he left us a lifetime of music to listen to. He tore it up like few others, and will always be remembered as the true Flattus Maximus. We really loved the man, and there is not a day that goes by or a GWAR show that is played where he is not sorely missed."
The "When Worlds Collide" track listing is as follows:
1. The Blood Red
2. Fortunate Son
3. Religion is Fiction
6. Mandatory Purgatory
7. Countdown to Oblivion
8. The Gauntlet
9. When Worlds Collide
11. Hollow Tree
12. Sloth Loves Chunk

Icelandic technical death metal act Ophidian I has posted the title track online from the band's upcoming debut album, "Solvet Saeclum," which can be heard below. The album is scheduled for release this summer on SFC Records.
Ophidian I also commented on the band's themes and history:
"The lyrical themes include eschatology (the study of ideas that are believed to be the final events in history, commonly referred to as the end of the world), the past and future of human history and the fate of the universe.
"In January 2011 the first recording sessions began in Studio Sýrland, one of the biggest recording studios in Iceland, where drums and acoustic instruments were recorded. Guitar, bass and vocals were recorded with the help from one of Iceland's finest black metal bands, Atrum. When all tracks had been laid down it was mixed and mastered by Jóhann Ingi (Beneath) in Sweden. In June of 2011 it was announced on sfcollector.ru that Ophidian I had signed a deal with SFC records and that a full length album is scheduled for an early 2012 release."

Every Monday we take a break from the news to highlight three lesser known bands that deserve a moment in the spotlight and can help expand your metal horizons.
Last year we showcased three side projects from black metal icon Ihsahn, but there are plenty of musicians from throughout metaldom who have a host of additional projects outside their most well-known bands. This week we’ll take a look at bands covering a range of sounds from the members of Borknagar, Katatonia, and Samael that all show a different side than what fans may be expecting from their favorite musicians.
While many may be aware that Vintersorg from Borknagar has had his own self-titled, folk leaning and clean singing focused project for years, it’s not as well known that he was also involved in a folk metal project called Otyg prior to his solo releases.
Otyg had a very ‘90s, proto-metal feel as the musicians were starting to explore the boundaries of the genre, and is a must hear if you want to explore the roots of folk metal or are into the early works of bands like Amorphis or Borknagar. The band released two full-length albums titled “Älvefärd” and “Sagovindars Boning” before going on hold indefinitely. The music is a little on the lo-fi side and not quite as bombastic or epic as the intricately arranged folk and orchestra stuff that has come out of metal in the interim, but just listen to that atmosphere!
Female fronted extreme Christian hybrid metal band Adorned In Ash is streaming a new single, "Human Torch," over on ReverbNation. The band is currently in the process of recording its debut album, which should come out in 2013. Adorned In Ash will be featured in the Hammer of Redemption Tour of Mass Destruction, which will be from June 8th through July 27th and cover most of South Africa between Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban. Head to that event page for more information. More...
Paul Kuhr and Mike Feldman of U.S. doom/death pioneers Novembers Doom have officially launched Charred Owen, a record label catering to vinyl enthusiasts and collectors. Below is a statement from Paul about the label.
"Having a mutual love for what is collectable and a vinyl format now considered classic, Novembers Doom members Paul Kuhr and Mike Feldman have brought to life a newly formed record label. Charred Owen was created out of nostalgia and a desire to see our own work released on a timeless format, vinyl. Not only is it collectable, but no other format has even been able to capture the full beauty of cover art, along with a tonal warmth only vinyl could bring."
"We will start with a collaboration with The End Records to release select Novembers Doom titles, starting with "Aphotic" available June 19th, but we won't stop there. Plans for other releases in the future are already in the works, with other bands in consideration. As musicians in the metal industry and fans of the same genre, our goal with Charred Owen is to create collectable quality vinyl from talented bands. We have many plans for the future, and we're looking forward to seeing it all come to life."
For more information, visit Charred Owen's website.

Alabama metal powerhouse MyChildren MyBride is excited to share the band's new video for "God of Nothing," taken off the band's recently released self-titled album, premiering today in conjunction with Hot Topic. Check out the video here or in the player below.
"We chose 'God of Nothing' as our premiere video because we feel like it encompasses all aspects of our band, new and old," says MCMB frontman Matthew Hasting. "Fans of metal, hardcore, and nu-metal can all find a part of the song they can really get into! Plus it's one of our favorite, more experimental songs from the self-titled release!"
Produced by Jimmie Myers, the darkly powerful clip finds the band giving a savage performance while doused in black latex paint that, Hasting assures, is much more fun to look at than it was to wear.
"I'm not going to sugarcoat anything, probably one of the worst moments of my life," Hasting laughs. "It was freezing outside, and tons of performance takes made the paint dry in our hair and skin, making it almost impossible to get off. To remove it from my eyes and face, to insure no health hazards, I had to crawl into an ice-cold creek near our shoot at 3 a.m. in 30 degree weather. Definitely will remember this video for the rest of my life. Everyone better watch it!" More...

Helhorse has issued the following announcement about working on a new album:
"Throughout the last six months Helhorse has been working intensively on writing new material for their second album, the follow up to the debut album 'For Wolves And Vultures.'
"This time the band has chosen the young talent, Emil Buus Saur, as their producer. Although relatively unknown in the producer circuit, Emil, who has just graduated as sound engineer from the Royal Danish Academy of Music, has already worked on underground productions like Hexis and Stream City, but also mayor Danish rock acts such as Dizzy Mizz Lizzy's 'Live in Concert 2010' og D-A-D's 'DIC.NII.LAN.DAFT.ERD.ARK.'
"We would like to take Helhorse into a tighter, more organic and even more rocking direction. It's still going to be energetic, hard-hitting, southern inspired metal, but with more room for melodies, riffs and composition. After some long good conversations with Emil, we agreed that he is the one that can take us in the direction we want." More...

Metal Blade has just announced that Swedish death metal band Entrails has signed to its roster to release its upcoming third album. Comments guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist on the deal with Metal Blade: “Being on Metal Blade has been a dream since Slayer´s Hell Awaits came out and given the chance to be there as well is just pure magic! It is with honourable excitement that we have signed to Metal Blade!”
Right now Entrails is in the final stages of songwriting for their third studio album to be recorded during the summer! “Our upcoming third opus is filled with old-school and rotten bastards of songs. Groovy and heavy like a pile of flesh that will be like a punch in your face. To us it's the perfect step from "The Tomb Awaits" album...beware!”
Entrails formed in the 90's, but split up before they were able to release a demo or even an album. It took them until 2008 to come back when guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist rediscovered some old tapes. In a moment of nostalgia he decided that they deserved to be released as they should have been originally. With modern recording technology, the first Entrails demo could finally take shape. After releasing another demo in 2009 Entrails recorded and released its debut album "Tales From The Morgue" in 2010.
