Rob Rogers, director of productions for Catch the Fever Music Festivals, cannot say enough about Rocklahoma, an 80s rock festival coming July 13-15.
Although Country Fever will happen first, June 7-10, at the facility between Adair and Pryor, Rogers talked almost exclusively about Rocklahoma when he visited Adair.
“These people do have money and they will put it into the community,” Rogers said. “The first week of sales outsold Country Fever and the VIP sold out first.”
VIP seats are up front and include non-alcoholic drinks, beer, parking, lunch and dinner. To make sure enough VIP seats will be available, Rogers said, a $1 million renovation is being completed at Catch the Fever’s facility.
Rocklahoma is happening in Oklahoma, but it was announced at a press conference in Los Angeles. Since then, Rogers said tickets have been sold to people in 15 countries, four Canadian provinces and all 50 states.
“We expect 50,000 to 60,000 people each day,” Rogers said. “Every hotel room is booked in a 50- to 70-mile radius. People are thinking about renting their houses.
“This isn’t a four-state area thing. This is worldwide. The numbers just keep going daily.”
Rogers said some of the bands in the line up hope their career will be restarted with this exposure. “This is different than Country Fever where the acts come in and out. The bands will be staying here,” Rogers said.
Rogers said the festival will be broadcast on world-wide pay for view television and the VH-1 music channel.
Rocklahoma will feature hard rock bands popular in the 80s such as Great White, Quiet Riot, Poison, Ratt and White Lion.

Birmingham is to have it's own Hollywood style Walk of Fame on Broad Street and local hero and global superstar Ozzy Osbourne will be the first star inducted on July 6th 2007.
The Birmingham Walk of Stars will honour those people who have made a significant contribution in the categories of music, television, film, radio, theatre, sport and literacy.
Ozzy's induction to the Walk of Stars will be on the same day as the rock legend's homecoming concert at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.
A handmade brass paving star will be placed in Broad Street in Ozzy's honour and further stars are planned in the near future. Uniquely, the pavement stars will be placed throughout the area creating a Walk of Stars trail. The exact location of the 'Ozzy Osbourne star' will be revealed closer to the induction event, which the public will be welcome to attend.
The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Birmingham Councillor Randal Brew said "I would like to invite Ozzy Osbourne to be the first person to be inducted on to the Birmingham Walk of Stars in Broad Street. Ozzy means a lot to Birmingham people and it will be a great day."
Gary Taylor, Chair of the Broad Street Business Improvement District, organisers of the Walk of Stars said "Ozzy is widely recognised as the most famous Birmingham person in the world today and we're proud to be able to offer him the honour of being the first star on the 'Walk of Stars' in Broad Street. It's a great testament to what this area offers, we have some incredibly talented people from Birmingham together with world famous acts that regularly perform in this area and we wanted to start honouring them in a way that shows how proud we are to have them here."
Ozzy Osbourne, who was also inducted onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002 commented "I have a star in Hollywood on their Walk of Fame but having a Star in my home town means so much more to me. A personal thanks goes out to Lord Mayor Randal Brew."
Ozzy has sold over 50 million CD's as a solo artist worldwide. His new album Black Rain is out May 21st (Europe) and 22nd (North America). This summer he plays his biggest European tour to date - a 19 date tour which will incorporate the only UK dates in London at Wembley Arena on 19th June and Birmingham's NIA on July 6th.
The public are now being asked to get involved and to nominate and vote for the stars they would like to see honoured, via the website www.walkofstars.co.uk.
The Duskfall have posted the following regarding the recording process of their upcoming album, "The Dying Wonders Of The World":
“We are finished with all drums, guitars and bass and the sound is crushing! We have returned to our melodic roots, still keeping those thrashy parts alive and breathing. There will be more leads on this CD as we brought in a excellent guitar player as guest musician. His name is Magnus Söderman and he will play leads on four songs, so brace yourself for some brilliant shit! Oskar has also unloaded his best drumming on this recording, excellent fills and also a drumsolo on one of the tracks. The only thing left do do is for Kai to scream his lungs out and then we will mix this beast in end of May. For those interested we have put up some clips at http://www.solace.miun.se/~jsf/duskfall/duskfall_studio.html."

HORSE THE BAND has had the release date of its new album, "A Natural Death" (KOCH Records), pushed back to August 28 from the previously announced June 26. According to keyboardist Erik Engstrom, "'A Natural Death' is about the futility and arrogance of creation and destruction, the overwhelming scale of space and time, and the brutal majesty of nature, the horror of birth and the beauty of death. Everyone who will ever live will die a natural death, and will soon after be forgotten for eternity. Hopefully this album will serve as a warning to the human race to stop taking itself so seriously, as we have seen the dire consequences of its actions in the future. You are nothing."

Italian/Danish power-thrash metal act CHAOSWAVE has posted a new song, entitled "Rise", on its MySpace page. The track comes off the band's recently completed four-song promotional CD, "Fork Tongues and Foul Times", which is currently being shipped to record labels. The CD was mixed by renowned Danish producer Jacob Hansen (MASTODON, DESTRUCTION, MERCENARY) and contains four songs to be included on CHAOSWAVE's sophomore album:
02. Fork Tongues and Foul Times
03. Picture Perfect
04. A March for the Dying

FIREBALL MINISTRY frontman Rev. James A. Rota II has issued the following update:
"First and foremost, we are in the stages of writing a new album. It's coming along great. It's going to be a bit different than our last three. We've definately decided to take the band to some new territory, but it's definately FIREBALL MINISTRY. Emily, Johny, John and I are holed up here writing and fighting our way through this material. Might even see some of it surface at the show we just booked with our old friends FU MANCHU at the Malibu Inn on June 23rd. If you happen to be in Malibu, CA that night come on out.
"I've also been working on an as-yet-untitled side project with Neil Fallon [CLUTCH], Jess Margera [CKY], Dave Bone and Jason Diamond. We recorded four songs that are waiting to get the Neil treatment and are planning to release an EP sometime this summer. Andrew Alekel, producer extraordinaire, has been at the knobs for this one. Andrew is the kind of guy that says, 'You know what would sound sick on this song, that Martin Birch guitar sound from 'British Steel'.' Next thing you know it's dialed in, minus the playing of K.K. and Glenn, of course. Check out some pics of us rehearsing and one of us boozing after the jump (minus Jason, sadly)."
KRYPTILLUSION, the new project formed by Fredrik Groth from the Swedish power/heavy metal act THE STORYTELLER, has posted two demo tracks on its official web site. Check out the songs "Frozen" and "Love Cuts Deep" at www.kryptillusion.com.

The group's current lineup consists of Groth on guitars and bass, Mike Wead (KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE) on lead guitar, Stefan Westerberg (CARNAL FORGE, ASPERITY) on drums and Kristofer Nilsson (UNDIVINE) on vocals.
KRYPTILLUSION is currently seeking a record deal.

AKERCOCKE frontman Jason Mendonca had the following to say about the shoot: "The new video for 'Axiom' promises to be a tremendously surreal work indeed. Erica Herbert's dreamlike direction and Schwanmeir-esque approach should make for a unique and beautiful visual outing."

Metal Blade Records’, San Diego metal outfit, As I Lay Dying have announced "An Ocean Between Us" as the official title for their highly-anticipated follow up to 2005’s "Shadows Are Security."
The majority of "An Ocean Between Us" was recorded at vocalist Tim Lambesis’ home studio aptly named Lambesis Studio in San Diego, California. Adam Dutkiewicz (Underoath, All That Remains, The Acacia Strain) of Killswitch Engage collaborated with As I Lay Dying on all recording and production duties and Colin Richardson (Sepultura, Machine Head, Slipknot) will be overseeing the final mix.
As I Lay Dying have the following song titles set - Separation, Nothing Left, Within Destruction and title track An Ocean Between Us right now. More will be announced in the near future.
As I Lay Dying is: Tim Lambesis ( Vocals), Phil Sgrosso (Guitar), Nick Hipa (Guitar), Jordan Mancino (Drums) and new bassist Josh Gilbert. Josh joins the band from THIS ENDEARING, a local band in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. “Based on hearing Josh's previous band, we knew he was a great bass player and singer. But, when he came out to San Diego to try out and rehearse with us, he ended up exceeding our expectations. Shortly after the try out we invited him to come back and fill in for us on our January UK tour. That tour really solidified the fact that Josh is the right guy for us.,” says Lambesis of Gilbert’s addition to the band.
Former QUIET RIOT / OZZY OSBOURNE and current DIO bassist Rudy Sarzo has issued a statement in response to a recent press release from Rudy's former QUIET RIOT bandmate Kevin DuBrow in which DuBrow explained the reasons behind his decision to withdraw his involvement in an upcoming documentary about late OZZY OSBOURNE / QUIET RIOT guitarist Randy Rhoads.
Said Sarzo: "In response to a recent press release from Kevin DuBrow, I'm compelled to address his statements regarding claims of inaccuracies in my book, 'Off the Rails', and towards an upcoming Randy Rhoads documentary now in production.
"I want to highly stress that Dakota Pictures' Randy Rhoads documentary that is being directed by Peter Margolis is not based on my book, 'Off the Rails', or any book for that matter. In no way is the film scripted. It is based on interviews from family members, childhood friends, former band members and fans who want to share their memories and express their feelings about Randy in this special tribute.
"The documentary's director, Peter Margolis, is an ex-student of Randy Rhoads. His life was truly influenced by Randy's music and friendship. The film has 100 percent support and participation of the Rhoads family, and from what I understand, Kelle Rhoads [Randy's brother] will be contributing to the soundtrack of the film.
"I sincerely hope that Kevin's animosity towards me, which he's been harboring for nearly 25 years, does not extend into this well-meaning project.
"In response to Mr. DuBrow's statement that my book is filled with inaccuracies, well, I have yet to see him back up his allegations. Besides, out of the 24 chapters in the book, there is only one that refers to my time with Randy in QUIET RIOT. The other 23 chapters are about my memories of Randy during my period in Ozzy's band."
With the blessings of the family of late OZZY OSBOURNE / QUIET RIOT guitarist Randy Rhoads, Dakota Pictures and director Peter Margolis began filming the "Randy Rhoads Documentary" on March 19 at the Mountain View Cemetery. In hopes to fully capture the significance of the 25th anniversary of Randy's passing, the filmmakers interviewed as many of Randy's fans as possible.
D.X. Ferris of the Cleveland Scene recently conducted an interview with BLACK SABBATH / HEAVEN AND HELL guitarist Tony Iommi. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
Scene: What do you think is the strength of Dio-era [BLACK SABBATH]?
Iommi: The songs are really strong. They stand up, and I just think they're classic songs.
Scene: The Dio albums were heavier and faster. At the time, were you trying to compete with MAIDEN and PRIEST, who'd grown big in your shadow?
Iommi: With Ronnie, it enabled us to do a lot more faster songs. They were a lot more uptempo, and quite exciting. Ronnie creates that vibe. With Ozzy , we used to do some uptempo stuff, but it was mainly mid-tempo material. Certainly now, with our stage show, we can put in more uptempo stuff with Dio - where, with Ozzy, I think "Paranoid" was the fastest one we did. As soon as we changed lineups, it gave us a new spark of life. It's like anything: You can go on and go on. And in them days, we had the first three or four albums really that done well, and then you get into a bit of rut. We were young, don't forget, and we went through a lot of drugs and everything else. And it affected our music and our vibe and our mood and the band.
Scene: Had band cleaned up by Dio's arrival??
Iommi: No. But at the time, it enabled us to clean up a bit afterward. But it doesn't matter if you're doing things or not. You have to create something within the band. And at the time, with Ozzy, we'd sort of burned ourselves out.
Scene: Do you consider the band metal?
Iommi: These days, I just go along with whatever people want to call it. Going back to the '70s, I've just classed us as heavy rock. It got into this label of metal, so that's what it is, you know?
Scene: SABBATH had a few singers. After Ozzy and Dio, who's number 3?
Iommi: I hate to put it in that category, but Glenn Hughes is a great singer. I've done a few projects with Glenn. He's a tremendous singer.
Scene: Do you have future plans for HEAVEN AND HELL?
Iommi: We said we'd do this year and put a time limit on it instead of going on and on and on. I'm sure we'll look at it as time goes on.
Scene: You started a new album with Ozzy, and it never arrived. Will you finish it at some point?
Iommi: I'm sure we will. I don't know when. Last time around, we wrote so many songs, and it just dwindled off. We ended up going on tour, and Ozzy started doing "The Osbournes", and the thing just fizzled out, to be honest.
Scene: Do you think the Dio era is underrated?
Iommi: I think it's got some great respect. Those albums did quite well when they came out. And judging by the shows now, it's fantastic. It's refreshing. It's great. For the last years, we've been playing the Ozzy sets, which has been great. But it's nice to be able to do something else.

After a five-year hiatus, Dino Cazares (co-founding member of the revolutionary band Fear Factory) has triumphantly returned with a new group -- Divine Heresy. The band's members feature Cazares handling guitar and bass duties, Tim Yeung (Hate Eternal, Vital Remains) on drums and newcomer Tommy Vext on vocals. Their Century Media Records debut offering is entitled "Bleed The Fifth" and is set for an August release. (The record will be released on Century Media in North America with Roadrunner Records having the rights to all other territories).
"Bleed The Fifth" was produced by Dirty Icon (Logan Mader and Lucas Banker) and co-produced by Divine Heresy. Dirty Icon and Divine Heresy also handled the mixing duties. Joachim Luetke (Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy) has also created the album's striking cover art, which perfectly compliments the music's sheer intensity.
This offering is unquestionably Cazares career defining work and he states: "It took me four years to find the right musicians to make this happen and I'm very excited to finally unleash this to the world. Many people will be wondering what it sounds like, but it is hard for me to describe it. All I can say is when you hear the legendary machine gun riffs mixed with Tim Yeung's lighting speed double bass drums combined with Tommy's brutal and powerful vocals, just be prepared to face the Annihilation. I promise you will not be disappointed."
Vext states, "Approaching this I realized that I would have to bring a lot to the table working with such renown and accomplished musicians. Having everyone coming from different metal backgrounds was a challenge, but it is that exact formula that gives us such an eclectic sound. Also, having worked with vocal instructor Melissa Cross (Zen of Screaming) for the past three years I'd utilized those tools and exercises to push my abilities further than I ever imagined. I am so proud and excited to unveil this band to the world!"
North Carolina metal band Yosemite Mudflap have signed with Tragic Hero Records. Their debut album, "Slaughter" is due out June 5th. Drummer/vocalist Proscriptor from the mythological occult metal outfit ABSU has released the following statement:
"After five years of silence, I am pleased to announce the new lineup of ABSU.
"It was a difficult task to replace both Shaftiel and Equitant after being together for nearly 11 years, but now is the time to carry on. Here is the new reorganization of the band:
* Proscriptor McGovern - Percussives, Mellotron, Voices & Lyrical Magick
* Vastator Terrarum - Guitars, Bass Guitar, Analog Synthesizers & Backing Voices
* Aethyris MacKay - Guitars, Bass Guitar, Analog Synthesizers & Backing Voices
"We have begun composing and arranging the material for what will be known as the self-titled album, simply called 'Absu'.
"In 2002, four out of 16 tracks were written; two of them we're keeping while the other two we're abandoning.
"We will begin recording in the latter part of autumn 2007 or early 2008 anticipating a release before June 2008 for Osmose Productions."
Proscriptor added: "Lyrically, I am concentrating more on Sumerian-based occult themes of magick and mythology versus the Celtic aspect of my previous writings, which was heavily expressed on the last few ABSU studio albums. Musically speaking, the material will be quite similar to 'Tara', but with more of a '70s progressive/psychedelic texture within it. You will not be disappointed - trust me. I will be utilizing the first logo created by Equitant and Belgian artist Kris Verwimp will handle the cover illustration once again."
In other news, Osmose Productions will re-release a remastered digipak version of ABSU's last studio album, "Tara", including the EP "In the Eyes of Iold?nach" as bonus tracks, in September.
Tormentor Erich of Holland's Lords of Metal e-zine recently conducted an interview with MARDUK guitarist Morgan Steinmeyer H?kansson. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
Lords of Metal: Morgan, what can you tell us about the title "Rom 5:12"?
Morgan: It is a chapter from the bible. At first we didn't know if we would use the title but it grew on us during the process of the album. Although "Rom 5:12" is not a concept album the overall theme is death, and especially death in the Baroque period. With this album we wanted to give an impression about death in that period of time. In the end death will always be there. There is even a phrase in the chapter that says it all, it goes like: "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned."
Lords of Metal: In the first song "The Levelling Dust" singer Mortuus sounds like he is choking or strangled or something. What did you do to him?
Morgan: You don't have to do a lot to get him like that. This is what I like so much about him as a singer, he uses his voice for more then just for singing, it is not just an instrument. He wants to give an expression by inflecting his voice.
Lords of Metal: On "Cold Mouth Prayer" we hear ex-MARDUK singer Joakim Gothberg again. Wasn't it strange to record with him again?
Morgan: Not at all. We kept contact through the years, so it did not felt like a stranger passing by. It was the idea of Mortuus to ask him. He always liked Joakim's style, and when those two where together it felt like magic. It felt like being united in blood.
Lords of Metal: It seems that MARDUK knows this special place where good drummers are waiting for you. How did you find this new one?
Morgan: The new drummer is Lars, and he lives about two hours away from us. We noticed him for a while and we have this ideology for the band. We want the band members to be committed to MARDUK for one hundred percent. We tell them what to do and what we expect, and then you have to step up to it. Lars agreed and joined us. When all band members work like this, it will make you better, you can develop your skills, the confidence in the band will grow and in the end this it what counts. If you do not work like this, it won't work.
Lords of Metal: And so it is fair to conclude that after seventeen years of MARDUK, after ten records and numerous tours, the band is still very alive?
Morgan: Oh yes. It all comes down to dedication, and that's why MARDUK had so many changes in the lineup. People have to work for the band, they must have this vision and the will to triumph, as long as this will is there it is good and we can continue, and I for sure still have that will and my vision.
