I don't know what's worse - being one of the largest music labels/distributors and technology companies in the world and implementing a copy protection sceme that renders ten or hundreds of thousands of discs unusable to paying customers, or implementing a scheme so rediculously simple that it is cracked at not cost in minutes and looking like a big fool. Funny that I had read how this works and never even thought of this simple "crack" either. Read the whole article for the details and a laugh...
Technology buffs have cracked music publishing giant Sony Music's (Tokyo:6758.T - News) elaborate disc copy-protection technology with a decidedly low-tech method: scribbling around the rim of a disk with a felt-tip marker.

The Italian sextet Lacuna Coil from Milan finished their work for the new upcoming record, Comalies. The album was recorded with their long term producer Waldemar Sorychta at Woodhouse, Hagen/Germany and will be released September 23rd 2002.
"Unfortunately kids... we have been sabotaged! A certain European booking agent decided to f.ck up a bunch of our dates (most of which were to take place in Germany) because we fired him. Why did we fire him you ask... because he didn't abide to a verbal contract of honesty and failed to adhere to the commitment of achieving certain tasks. In other words people, don't tell a band you book the Wu Tang Clan when you don't and most certainly don't untruthfully tell people you book a handful of other bands that that person talks to on a regular basis. Dumb dumb dumb!
"OK now that we have vented about this numb nuts, we would like to apologize to those who were unable to catch Dillinger due to these events. Make up shows are already in process for late August and early September and will be posted soon." More...
Six Feet Under will be recording a live CD and home video (DVD?) at the Lab in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 14th for an early 2003 release. According to frontman Chris Barnes, "this is gonna be proffesionally shot on film by Dave Roth, who directed 'The Day The Dead Walked', 'Victim of the Paranoid', and 'Manipulation' videos, and will be digitally recorded live by Chris Carroll [who'd worked with us on the Maximum Violence, Graveyard, and True Carnage CDs]. Songs from the show will also be featured on a live CD, which will coincide with the release of the video. This is gonna be 100% pro, so if you want to see your ugly f.ckin' face show up on our vid—make it to this show, if its the last thing you ever do!! Prepare yourself..."
Norwegian metallers Enslaved have officially parted ways with guitarist R. Kronheim following the band's U.K. tour in March.
"Upon returning from their U.K. tour in March 02, all four members agreed that the situation within the band needed serious evaluation," stated mainman Ivar Bjoernson. "As a result, all four members agreed that R. Kronheim should leave. It is important to stress the fact that R. Kronheim was part of the vote in favor of his own departure. No particular reason for this can or needs to be pointed out, as everything else this sudden and surprising action came as an end to a chain of more or less significant events. True to Enslaved’s own agenda and philosophy, remaining members of the collective Dirge Rep, Grutle Kjellson and I. Bjoernson chose to see it as a necessary change rather than a loss. And changes give birth to new ideas and new worlds." More...
New Jersey outfit Burnt By The Sun have officially split with guitarist Chris Rascio.
"During the Candiria tour, it became apparent that Chris and BBTS were not "all on the same page" about certain very personal issues," said bassist Teddy Patterson III to DigitalMetal. "After BBTS returned from completing the tour, Chris was asked to leave BBTS."
"We really were disappointed in what happened and we all felt let down," continued Patterson. "Chris is a great guy and an excellent guitarist, he was a perfect fit for us, but certain things cannot be overlooked or excused. BBTS wishes Chris the best in all his endeavors and hope in the long run that everything works out for him.
Presently, Burnt By The Sun are looking for a replacement guitarist. The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule, a valid U.S. passport and drivers license as well as possess solid songwriting skills. Serious parties can contact for more information.
