Time waits for no man. When I purchased a copy of Diecast’s bruising 2001 LP “Day Of Reckoning” – at the now-defunct Circuit City, of all places! – I couldn’t have imagined that in ten years’ time, I’d be relying on the Boston-based band for a sweet nostalgia fix. That savored rush arrived on Friday, April 27th, at Mill Street Brews in Southbridge, Massachusetts.
Nestled in a renovated 19th-century textile mill building and stripped of ostentatious frills, the venue boasts no fewer than three separate barrooms, each with its own stage, and a vast expanse of floor area. Tonight’s show took place in the second floor Showcase Club and, by all appearances, was a veritable “who’s who” of regional metal talent. Nearly ten bands were jammed onto the bill, cranking out condensed sets that wrapped nearly as quickly as they’d begun. Time being a bitch, I sacrificed watching most of these sets (including Western Mass favorite WrenchNeck) in favor of some needed relaxation and chitchat in the adjacent barroom. More...
In 2011, a shattering force comprised of diversified heavy metal veterans arose amongst the hills of California, rapidly emerging as new, refreshed musical project Attika 7. The fan-dubbed “super group” is set to release debut full-length album, "Blood of My Enemies" on July 31st, 2012 with Rocket Science Ventures in the United States.
Attika 7 features ex-Biohazard vocalist Evan Seinfeld, lead guitarist, notable songwriter and famed (Sons of Anarchy) motorcycle builder Rusty Coones, and bassist Tony Campos, founding member of Static X, who also currently performs in Soulfly, Prong, Possessed, Asesino and Ministry.
“As I embarked on my journey of musical and personal reinvention, the first step was to put together a band of incredible players, with diverse styles and a unified vision to write, record and perform timeless heavy metal, backed by an authentic outlaw lifestyle,” states vocalist Evan Seinfeld. “Second, was to write and demo songs from our hearts and then to align ourselves with an amazing team in Rocket Science/THC for our debut release. Between Kevin, Thom, and the whole RS family, we feel such a strong sense of support and commitment from the label and we are stoked that we have real partners in helping us to launch the Atika 7 Army.” More...
Alerion has issued the following announcement about posting performance footage online featuring the band's new vocalist:
"On April 28th we did our second show with Laura on vocals at Capsloc, Capelle aan de IJssel, The Netherlands. The gig was partly filmed and two songs have been posted online.
"Turn of Fate is one, a song which many people already know. The other song, Colourblind, has not been released yet. Finished in 2011, it is still fairly new and has not been performed live a lot.
"Below, you can view both movies. They offer you a glimpse of our sound with Laura on vocals, as well as a song of which no material has been released before. We hope you like the movies." More...
San Francisco/North Bay metal act Ænimus has posted a second studio update video online. The second video features lead guitarist Brian 'Deebs' James answering questions about writing, recording, and gear, and also contains brief clips of some brand new tracks. Check out the video below.
Brian checked in with the following update on the recording process: "Hey guys, Brian here just checking in from the studio to elaborate on how the recording process has been going. I would love to be able to say that all the guitar parts throughout the album are nearly finished, but sadly, they are not. You see, a perk of being in a DIY band (in terms of recording anyway) is the fact that we can schedule the recording process around our daily lives.
"The only downside to that is it takes much longer than slamming out a 12 track album in a matter of weeks in some studio, while also keeping in mind that we are a 3 guitar band...and that means lots of different layers! Regardless, things are moving along at a steady pace while allowing all of us to work around our busy schedules. In all honestly, I wish we didn't have work, school, lives, etc. so that we could put this album out tomorrow! All of the songs are turning out awesome, and I am beyond stoked to get this thing done so everyone can finally have the opportunity to listen to it. All of the support and feedback we can get will help us immensely. Whether it be good or bad, it will only help us grow as writers, musicians, and most importantly, people."
The band is currently midway through recording the as-yet-untitled debut album at NB Recording in Santa Rosa, CA with drummer/producer Nick Botelho. The track listing is as follows:
1. Asherah's Hourglass
2. The Awakening
3. The Grasp of Ruin

7 Horns 7 Eyes' debut album has been creating quite a buzz already. The progressive death outfit is not unknown; it has already been around for five years. Throughout that time, the group got a deal with a big label, lost and gained members, released one E.P., and gained enough of a fanbase to make "Throes..." an anticipated release. I was able to talk to guitarist Aaron Smith about the lead up to this release, working with Nevermore's Jeff Loomis, and an upcoming tour. More...

Tveitan (StarofAsh).
The inclusion of an early production mix of Rumpelstiltskin Grinder's “Fucking Wild” follows the recent announcement of the band’s forthcoming new album, "Ghostmaker." The Philadelphia-based quartet recently completed a string of regional performances and are now gearing up for dates to support the new album once it hits stores nationwide on June 19th. Guitarist Ryan Moll says, "the title of this track says it all. It’s a rather suiting description of its relentlessness. The lyrics were written by Shawn (Riley) and the title was inspired by some old live Venom recordings."

He also, however, reveals that the song 'Blood Fire War Hate' was written to poke fun at another band; any guesses who it might be?"
The following press release has been issued about Bolero changing the band's name to Vesperia:
"With the new year always come changes and challenges and for Ontario, Canada’s Bolero, 2012 has already shaped up to be all about transformation and evolution. Out with the old and in with the new.
"After several months of deep thinking and more than half a decade of live shows, line-up changes and the constant shake-ups in the music industry, the four musicians behind Bolero decided it was time for a big move - a change in name and mentality. Ladies, gentlemen and metal Vikings, we present to you, VESPERIA.
"Continuing to derive influences from thrash, black metal and traditional folk music, Vesperia are not leaving their epic orchestrations, throat-crushing speed nor ear-piercing guitar riffs behind, rather, they’re intensifying each element, adding more energy to their live shows just when fans thought they couldn’t get any more amped up and prepping to release their new demo as Vesperia, entitled 'The Swordsman.'"
“This new name means 'of the land of the evening star' and the word ‘Vesperia’ was one of the proposed names for Canada before our country's name was decided upon,” explained Morgan Rider of the chosen name’s origins. More...

German thrash metallers Dew-Scented have revealed the artwork for their new album "Icarus," to be released in July through Metal Blade Records in Europe. Once again Björn Goosses / Killustrations handled the artwork duties.
Singer Leif Jensen comments on the album title: "The album's main theme could be described a modern-times, very apocalyptic adaptation of elements of the 'Icarus' myth, using a lot of its symbolism while interlinking with several other personal or observant subjects, in true Dew-Scented fashion. Without being close to a 'concept album', 'Icarus' has a pretty coherent lyrical flow and that helps to enhance and also to intentionally enlarge the atmosphere and vibe created by the music."
Check out the first sneak peak video teaser from the studio at this location. "Icarus" was recorded at Soundlodge Studio with Jörg Uken (God Dethroned, Suicidal Angels, Nightfall, etc.) as producer and will be released by late July 2012 via Metal Blade Records in Europe and Prosthetic Records in North America. Following 2010's "Haven for the Insane," Chicago-based death metallers Cardiac Arrest are set to return this spring with their fourth full album, aptly titled "Vortex of Violence." Guitarist Tom Knizner had this to say about the release and the recent addition of drummer Nick Gallichio:
"Well, the new Cardiac Arrest album, "Vortex of Violence" is about to be unleashed. We have been relatively quiet about this release until now. No need to bore anyone with the details why. 'Vortex of Violence' was completed in early 2011 and we decided to sit on it until we felt the time was right. 2011 brought about a line-up change and we decided to work with our new drummer, Nick Gallichio, rather than push an album or do extensive live stuff. 2011 was a tough but rewarding year for us, and we look forward to 2012. Cardiac Arrest will again perform live a handful of times in 2012, so be sure to catch us when you can. Cheers and beers!"
Guitarist/vocalist Adam Scott added the following: "Alright ladies and gentlemen, it's with pleasure we give you 'Vortex of Violence,' our new album which will once again be released on Ibex Moon Records. Not gonna sit and yammer about how 'this is our greatest album to date' because everyone says that and I'm sure you're sick of hearing that. We hope you enjoy the eleven tracks of heart stopping death rot that ooze from your speakers!! Til next time - let the blood flow freely!"
"Vortex of Violence" will be released on May 22nd via Ibex Moon Records. Cardiac Arrest has made the track "Primitive Lunacy" available for streaming on its ReverbNation page, or check it out below.
