Relapse Records has announced the signing of one of rock's most enigmatic duos JUCIFER.
“We are really looking forward to working with everyone at Relapse. It feels like everyone there is in it for the right reason - loving the hell out of music.” comments JUCIFER frontwoman Amber Valentine. She continues; “It’s cool to share a label with some bands we’ve become friends with over the years (like High on Fire, Dysrhythmia, Rwake, Mastodon, Buried Inside) and so many others we’re looking forward to meeting and touring with.”
JUCIFER’s forthcoming Relapse debut, At the Hands Of Our Intercessors, features Valentine’s trademark sultry vocals layered over colossal guitars and drums (courtesy of Edward Livengood). At the Hands Of our Intercessors will see an early Fall release via Relapse Records. Valentine explains, “We are ready! It’s been a long wait for us to get our new record out, but worth it. We’ve whipped out a few of the songs on tour already, and can’t wait to play more!”
Expect to see the duo showcasing those new songs across the United States throughout the summer.
Dutch progressive metallers Sun Caged have announced the addition of bassist Roel Vink to the group's ranks. "He is a young bass player with a lot of good musical ambitions, and we will start to work hard on learning him all the songs," comments guitarist Marcel Coenen.
Rob Van Der Loo [previous bassist] will play for the last time with the band on April the 27th in Tilburg (013, Batcave). Free entrance. Roel Vink will play live with the band for the first time at the Elsrock festival in Rijssen, The Netherlands on August 26th.

Song titles set to appear on the new CD include "Unborn", "Dialogue", "City Walls", "Re-Enter The Dream", "Doldrums", "Afraid To Fly", "Engelbert", "Blood Lines", "A Fair Trade" and "Missing Third". More information to follow.
Eyewitness News Memphis is reporting that four armed and dangerous gunmen — including one wearing a replica of a mask worn by SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison — stormed into a Memphis supermarket Saturday (April 29) and stole money from the store's cash registers and the First Tennessee Bank inside the store. One of the robbers shot a store employee in the face.
A surveillance camera captured it all.
Police think the gunmen are the same robbers who stormed a Tri-State Bank inside a different Memphis-area supermarket on on April 21. In both cases one of the gunmen was wearing the Joey Jordison mask, of which the FBI says very few have been sold in the Mid-South.
NEVERMORE guitarist Steve Smyth (ex-TESTAMENT) — who was recently diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure (the result of a congenital birth defect) — has posted the following message on his official web site:
"Hi, everyone. Just wanted to clue everyone in as to my situation, and why you will see me in very limited fashion onstage with NEVERMORE in the coming months.
"Around mid-October 2005, I was in a London hospital, undergoing arthroscopic surgery for my right knee, which turned out had been badly sprained during our last headlining show in Athens, Greece two days earlier.
"During my stay at the hospital, numerous blood tests were done, one of which revealed that the level of protein in my body, better known in medical terms as creatinine, was raised well beyond a normal level, 4.9. Normal is 1-2. I was advised by doctors there to see my MD as soon as I got back home, which was following our tour with OPETH in the U.S., around late November 2005.
"After several blood tests, urine tests, and ultimately, X-rays, ultrasounds, and CT scans, doctors came to a few conclusions about my condition. It was revealed that I was born with one kidney, and because of a congenital birth defect, I had an obstruction on my ureter, which was causing my solitary kidney to 'eat' itself over the years, to a point where it is now 85% destroyed. Now, as of late April 2006, I am facing 'complete renal failure' within 6 months. This is called end stage renal failure, or CKD, of which I am on the edge of Stage 4-5. I have had 'stent placement' surgery, around 3 months ago, and that seemed to help things for a bit, but things haven't really changed either. More...

British black metallers ANAAL NATHRAKH have posted the following message on their official web site:
"ANAAL NATHRAKH are approximately 70% finished with the recording of their new album. The following may help plug the gaping hole between now and its release:
Owing to the lack of regard for decency shared by Mordgrimm and Earache Records, the labels have decided to mutually re-release ANAAL NATHRAKH's 'The Codex Necro' and 'When Fire Rains Down From The Sky, Mankind Will Reap As It Has Sown' (label will vary according to territory). To further extend the list of various justifications for their respective punishment, obliteration and damnation, those concerned have chosen to augment these versions of the recordings by the inclusion of the following:
"'The Codex Necro' will have bonus tracks comprising the Peel session recorded for the late John Peel's legendary radio show at the BBC studios at the great man's personal request. These include the first ever performance of 'The Oblivion Gene', later to appear in its full re-recorded form on the subsequent album 'Domine Non Es Dignus'. No, that doesn't mean this session was the first recording of the song, it means it was the first performance EVER, the song was never even rehearsed before this recording session.
"'When Fire...' is reissued with the inclusion of ANAAL NATHRAKH's full live band debut, the 'Rock Show' live session recorded for the BBC radio show of the same name. Notable in this instance, alongside performances from Ventnor and Chemical Nova, are the appearances of Emburyonymous making its live debut for the band, and Nick Barker who bastardised for this recording alone.
"The releases are simultaneous for the American territory on the 18th of April, and releases in other territories will follow in the weeks after this date.
"May this news bring no tears of joy whatsoever to anyone's face, anywhere, at any time."
Underground metal music has a new hero in its midst. His name is Jeff Totten of Celestial Entertainment/On-Stage Management. He is the main man behind The Project Independent Tour, a nationwide music event, showcasing some of the top un-signed metal acts from all over the country. The band I.R.A.T.E. out of Los Angeles, California is the headliner and are supporting their new album release Brothers Of The Same Struggle, currently available at Tower Records. A second compilation disc is included, featuring many of metal's brightest new talents. Jeff is a real busy guy and I thank him for taking time out to give me this cool interview.
UVTV has an interview with Dez Fafara of Devildriver available for viewing and download here. The clip was taken during the In Flames/Trivium/Devildriver/Zao tour in Rochester NY last February. There will be some live performance videos of Devildriver, In Flames, Trivium and Zao coming very soon to Underground Video Television as well.
Floridian death metallers DEICIDE will be embarking on a full U.S. tour beginning around September 20 and running through October 31. In addition, the band are confirmed to perform at the Iillif Park Saloon in Aurora, Colorado on June 6 — whch coincides with the projected release date of the band's new studio album, "The Stench of Redemption". The follow-up to 2004's "Scars of the Crucifix" was recorded at Morrisound in Tampa, Florida and marks the first recording with the new DEICIDE lineup following the departure of the Hoffman brothers. Joining frontman Glen Benton and drummer Steve Asheim in the new formation are guitarists Jack Owen (ex-CANNIBAL CORPSE) and Ralph Santolla (ex-ICED EARTH, DEATH).
Swedish death-metal outfit Godhate have lost founding member and drummer Roger Sundquist. "Roger has left the band for good," reads the band's official statement on his departure. "It's not an easy thing to find a good drummer who can replace such a good musician as Roger. And as he was the one who formed the band, it's even harder to just say goodbye like that. He has meant a lot to the band and each member, even though we have had different opinions on how to run the band."
Contrary to rumors, With Honor have not broken up. In fact, the band has plans for extensive touring, including a European tour. With Honor will tour Europe for six weeks this summer with Ignite and will play several major festivals there, including France's Hellfest and the Full Force and Pressure Fests in Germany. Meanwhile, singer Kevin White, who replaced Todd Mackey in January, is still with the band and "is doing a great job."
