Guitarist Matt Leff of Machines of Grace has issued the following statement about Ronnie James Dio, who passed away due to stomach cancer:
"In 1988 I was attending GIT in Hollywood and read that Dio was looking for a new guitar player. I never expected to get a call but sent in my demo anyway. A couple months later my phone rang and it was Wendy Dio telling me Ronnie had listened to my material and really liked it, they wanted to know if I'd go down and audition... I was like, 'YEAH!!' Out of the thousands of demo's they received, only a couple guys were brought in to audition and I was really nervous about playing with one of my all time musical idols. I mean, there I was, playing with Ronnie James Dio and his entire band! Not to mention Wendy Dio and some people from their label. Typing this out, I'm remembering how nerve racking it was, but what a fantastic experience it was playing with such a musical powerhouse.
"From the moment I arrived at the studio, Ronnie made me feel like I had known him my entire life. Just super friendly and any time I tell this story, I always mention that he was one of the nicest people I've ever met. I probably spent 3 or 4 hours playing Dio songs along with some of my own material, then we spent quite a bit of time sitting around the rehearsal room table talking. They all were really great and I'll never forget that day as long as I live. Thank you for being such a huge inspiration Ronnie!" More...
In This Moment has posted a video teaser online for the band's upcoming album "A Star-Crossed Wasteland," which can be viewed below. The teaser gives a sneak peek into the opening track "The Gun Show." The new album is set to hit stores on July 13th. In This Moment shot a cowboy themed video for the track “The Gun Show” in the Los Angeles, CA area on May 16th. The shoot was helmed by director David Brodsky, and Chris Howorth (guitarist) checks in with the following report:
“We just wrapped shooting our newest video for ‘The Gun Show’ and every member of In This Moment feels like we were in a car crash. We haven't played any shows since December and after a full day of headbanging we all have legitimate cases of whiplash, but it was well worth it. We all had a blast and know this video is gonna turn out awesome! We enlisted our good friend David Brodsky to direct the video. We met Dave a few years ago and became friends and after working with him on our ‘Forever’ video in 2008, he was our first choice for ‘The Gun Show.’ Dave is a very talented guy who has a real passion for making videos and we consider it an honor to be working with him again.
"Maria Brink and Dave came up with a really interesting treatment for the video and I don't wanna spoil anything but it involves guns, cowboys, hot cowgirls and headbanging. We also invited a small group of fans to help us make the video extra special. We were feeding off their enthusiasm and energy and it just made the whole thing kick more ass. We always love to involve our fans, without our fans we wouldn't even be doing this. I can speak for the whole band in saying this is the most fun we have had making a video and we can’t wait to see the results in a couple of weeks. I think people are going to be very pleasantly surprised by the song and the video. Welcome to the fucking gun show!”

MetalSucks contributor Corey Mitchell recently announced he'd be helping Pantera/Down front man Philip Anselmo write his autobiography. Mitchell revealed some details about the writing process in a recent review of a Warbeast show in Dallas, at which Anslemo made a guest appearance. An excerpt follows:
"Anselmo has also given me carte blanche to talk to anyone from his past to either fill in the blanks on some stories he may have forgotten, confirm what he remembers, and also to shoot down any stories he may not have a complete grasp on. He also told his buddies from the early days of Pantera to be brutally honest with me, because he wants nothing but the truth to go out to the readers – the good, the bad, and the downright fuckin’ ugly."

Funeral For A Friend has issued the following announcement about performing two farewell shows for guitarist Darran Smith:
"We are excited to announce 2 very special live shows in July to celebrate Darran's leaving the band in true style. We'll be playing the whole of 'Casually Dressed..' back to back with a few special extras. And we're really looking forward to it. As sad as we are to see Darran leave, these shows will be guaranteed to give him a great sendoff. We played the album in it's entirety when we toured it back in 2003/4 and never really planned to do that again, but obviously with it being Darran's last shows it seems like a perfect opportunity to play the record for the final time.
"Our friends Young Guns will be supporting on both shows. The dates are: Thu 22 July: Cardiff, University, Fri 23 July: London, O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire. These shows are gonna be special!"
Colorado's Allegeaon is currently streaming the track "The God Particle" off their upcoming Metal Blade debut "Fragments of Form and Function" via StereoKiller.com. Vocalist Ezra Haynes comments: "We just recently finished our debut album Fragments of Form and Function. Working with Dave Otero again was a blast. He was definitely able to capture the sound we were going for, since we've worked together in the past it was extremely comfortable and easy for us just to go in there and hammer it out. We're glad he's been a part of our Metal Blade debut and after hearing the end results we couldn't be more pleased with the final product."
The new album is set to hit stores on July 20th, 2010 in the U.S. and Canada. Footage from the band's studio time can also be viewed below. More...

U.K. based metal act Sylosis has issued the following announcement about parting ways with vocalist Jamie Graham:
"Rumors have been circulating for a few days now and we can confirm that Jamie is no longer a part of Sylosis. We've felt we've been growing apart and pulling in different directions for a while now. It was a tough conclusion to come to but we felt it was best.
"Being so close to releasing our second album and moving in a slightly new direction we felt it would be best not to record with Jamie and make a fresh start before we go full steam ahead into touring. The band is both thankful and proud of the success shared during Jamie's time in the band and it wont be forgotten. We wish him the best of luck with his all future endeavors and his label Siege Of Amida."

Belgian act Crimson Falls has checked in with the following update about recruiting a new drummer:
"Crimson Falls is excited to announce that Michael Stevenick will be the new CF-drummer! Michael is 18 years old and a new talent in the scene. He replaces Sigi Loots who left the band at the end of 2009. Mitch already played his first shows with us in Foetz (Lux), Ieper & Oostende and that was a blast; literally. Despite his young age we believe Mitch is the right man for the job and his skills, speed & musical taste will blow a breath of fresh air through the band. Of course we are trilled to have a complete line-up again and put the band’s pace at the maximum again. Expect new shows, new (weekend-)tours, new songs & new recordings asap!
"This would also be a good time to thank our interim-drummer Friso Van Wijck again for stepping in after Sigi’s abrupt departure. Thanks to Friso we didn’t have to cancel any show and he gave us the chance to take our time to search for a new permanent drummer. Those who visited one of our shows earlier this year will know Friso did an amazing job. Thanks mate!"

As millions of fans around the world continue to pay their respects to the late, great Ronnie James Dio, who passed away last sunday from stomach cancer, more of his peers and fellow musicians have posted tribute messages online. You can read some more of them below.
Rob Halford (Judas Priest): "Ronnie James Dio’s voice will live forever, and continue to excite and inspire singers around the world. He was a dear friend, and like millions of metalheads I will miss him deeply."
Charlie Benante (Anthrax): "The first time I heard Ronnie James Dio, I thought he was a large person, The voice was so huge. It was Rainbow and he was the singer. I was a fan of his from then on. I followed him with Rainbow, Sabbath, Dio, etc. From 'Man On The Silver Mountain', 'Heaven And Hell', 'Rainbow In The Dark'... the songs are endless. The sound of his voice with those bands was always so perfect. It was his god-given instrument. He was true metal and the creator of the metal hand sign. Thank you for the music. He was divine."
Blaze Bayley (Solo artist, former Iron Maiden and Wolfsbane): "Very saddened by the news of the passing of Ronnie James Dio. He was the inspiration for me to start singing and join a metal band after seeing him perform in Birmingham Odeon many many years ago on the Holy Diver tour. My thoughts are with Wendy and the family. On the few occasions I met Ronnie, he was an absolute gentleman, hero and superstar and an example to us all. Thank you, Ronnie, for your wonderful work. Rest in peace."
Slovenian metal act NOCTIFERIA have just posted their new video clip “Demoncracy ” online. The song is taken from their new album “Death Culture,” which was mixed by Peter Tagtgren.
Igor Nardin, the band’s artistic leader comments, "Demoncracy is the first video we did for Death Culture. I basically filmed and edited the video myself. Most of post production was done by a friend of mine I used to work with at MTV. Money is your god is very memorable chorus and the video and its greyness sort of represent true colour of money, not bright green but greyish green- dirt and corruption some unleash in order to get it. I had second visual concept that included basically majority of world currencies i did some previews but it didn't turn out ok, so only intro logo world animation was used in the end."
