According to a posting on producer Kevin Shirley's web site, Shirley will be "heading up to New York to master the IRON MAIDEN opus next week. Actually, we're so wary of the process, we even considered not mastering at all, but we'll see how it goes — there's plenty of time to check it through. And 'Arry [IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris] knows what he likes!"
IRON MAIDEN recently confirmed a full European leg of their world tour for this coming winter 2006. The trek will start in Scandinavia on November 9 and will include new album material, which will be released prior to the tour.
Canada's pioneering metal band VOIVOD has teamed up with MP3.com to host a five-minute trailer about the making of the band's much-anticipated new album "Katorz", set for release in North America on July 25 via The End Records.
The five-minute trailer — containing footage from a documentary in the works about the life of VOIVOD guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour — was assembled and directed by Canadian documentary filmmaker Sam Dunn, whose stellar "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" film includes the last-known filmed interview with Piggy. See Sam's travel journal at www.metalhistory.com to read his comments on meeting and filming VOIVOD. It contains exclusive footage of the recording process of "Katorz" and interview segments with drummer Michel Langevin, singer Denis Belanger, bassist Jason Newsted and producer Glen Robinson (ANNIHILATOR, VOIVOD's "Nothingface"). Revealed is how the demo tracks from Denis D'Amour — guitar parts that guitarist Piggy had finished before his untimely death in August 2005 — were re-amped to form the foundation of this new record.
About the artwork for "Katorz", Langevin (who creates all the artwork for VOIVOD) commented: "Most people will probably expect the usual strange VOIVOD creature on the cover, but the truth is I really wasn't in the right mood to create monsters this time around. Instead, out of respect for Piggy, I decided to design something more band-oriented, with encouragements from Snake and Jason. For the CD itself, we used the title handwritten by Piggy. It was scanned from one of the ProTools CDs. For the booklet, I used many sketches done while listening to the demos over the last couple of years. The idea was to keep it consistent with the album, since a lot of it was pulled from demos. We wanted to keep the art raw and honest, much like the music of 'Katorz'."
"Katorz" track listing:
01. The Getaway
03. Mr. Clean
04. After All
05. Odds & Frauds
06. Red My Mind

METAL CHURCH have announced the track listing for their new album, "A Light in the Dark", due in Europe on June 19 (June 16 in Germany) via SPV and U.S. on June 27. The album will include a new version of the classic "Watch the Children Pray" as a tribute to vocalist David Wayne, who passed away in May 2005.
Guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof, who doubled as sound engineer and producer during the recordings, promises an offering featuring all the important trademarks of typical METAL CHURCH tracks. "Before our new drummer Jeff Plate joined the band, I would have claimed that the new album will be a traditional heavy metal album through and through," he said. "Now I'm not so sure; we may end up experimenting with the odd unusual idea, but we'll stay within the framework defined by the band's history. 'A Light in the Dark' will represent what the name METAL CHURCH has been standing for for the last twenty years."

Reunited Australian thrashers MORTAL SIN have scrapped plans to release a DVD of their February 4, 2006 concert at The Gaelic Club in Sydney, Australia "due to technical audio problems." MTV.com has an article that discusses that issue with Tom Morello (Audioslave, ex-Rage Against The Machine) as well as Public Enemy's Chuck D and Anti-Flag singer Justin Sane. There are no revelations there, but it makes for an interesting, if not thought-provoking, read. Here's an excerpt:
"When you see footage of demonstrations from the 1960s and early '70s (usually anti-war or pro-civil rights) on television, it's almost invariably accompanied by a protest song from the era — by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Marvin Gaye, John Lennon or another activist-minded performer. Such songs were everywhere at the time — so you'd figure, with social unrest at its highest level since the 1970s, that today's airwaves and charts would be buzzing with angry songs, right?"

Relapse Records has announced the signing of Poland's ANTIGAMA.
The Warsaw-based, progressive grindcore quartet is comprised of Lukasz Myszkowski (Vocals), Sebastian Rokicki (Guitar), Michal Pietrasik (Bass) and Krzysztof Bentkowski (Drums).

Our new album for Relapse means an awesome new chapter in the history of our band." The band is planning a winter-recording for their as-yet-untitled Relapse debut.

Tariq Khonji of Bahrain's Gulf Daily News is reporting that a Bahraini MP claims Bahrain has hundreds of devil worshippers — many of whom are followers of certain types of rock, such as heavy metal and death metal — and is calling on all segments of society to unite to combat what he described as a growing problem. MP Shaikh Mohammed Khalid says he has had secret meetings with two upper class Bahrainis who admitted to him that they worship the devil.
He says they spoke to him on the condition of anonymity and could not reveal who they were.
But he said they described to him "despicable" acts they performed together involving perverted sex, alcohol and heavy metal and death metal music.
The issue of devil worship has been a recurring one in the local Arabic Press.
Many organizers of rock concerts in Bahrain say their reputations as law-abiding citizens have been affected by this "hysteria."
Nineteen-year-old Bahraini Mohammed Ishaq was an organizer of one such event, which was labelled as a devil-worshipping gathering in an Arabic newspaper article.
He says such allegations do a lot of harm to innocent people.
"Rock music, including death and black metal, are just styles of music.
"People wearing black to these events is just a fashion statement and nothing more."
Bahraini Jassim Al Janahi, 21, has had similar allegations made about events he has been involved in.
"The things that have been claimed in the paper, including the kidnapping and killing of children, are not things that even devil worshippers do."
Al Janahi said that many critics fail to understand that even when metal bands sing about devil-related themes, they are not being serious.
"It's just for show and sometimes they mean it as a joke," he said.

It comes as little surprise that Avenged Sevenfold have been officially confirmed as the mystery band on the main stage for Ozzfest 2006. The real surprise announcement is that power metal band Dragonforce, recently signed to Roadrunner Records in North America and rumored to be joining Gigantour 2006, has been added as the main stage opener as well.
Ozzy Osbourne is now slated to headline the second stage on three dates (replacing some dates that he was previously thought to be headlining the main stage):
July 8 - San Bernardino, CA's Hyundai Pavilion of Glen Helen
July 11 - San Antonio, TX at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
July 22 - East Troy, WI at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre
OZZY says, "After 10 years of headlining Ozzfest's main-stage I think it's time for a change. I haven't had a chance to play this close to an audience in years and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it."
Also announced is that Ozzfest emcee Big Dave and professional Ozzfest party guy, Eddie, have begun their nationwide search visiting 19 of the festival's 26 cities to find the first-ever Miss Ozzfest. The duo will be accepting entries and taking photographs of Miss Ozzfest candidates in each city. Throughout the summer the Ozzfest fans can vote for your favorites at Ozzfest.com. All entries collected from Big Dave and Eddie will be posted for you to vote on. The top three in each city will be awarded FREE tickets to the show in their city, where at some point during the evening's festivities, the three contestants will be presented on stage to the fans who will vote on a winner. Photos of each winning contestant, including the top vote getters from Raleigh and West Palm Beach, will be posted once again on Ozzfest.com, where fans can pick their Miss Ozzfest 2006. Final voting will be held at Ozzfest.com on August 7 and 8. The winning beauty will be awarded the grand prize and receive round trip airfare and accommodations for her and a guest to attend the year's final show August 13 in West Palm Beach where she'll be crowned Miss Ozzfest 2006.

Six Ounce Gloves releases their debut album, Timing is Everything, on June 6, 2006 through Rock Ridge Music. Bringing melodic riffs and harmonies to their aggressive rock anthems, Six Ounce Gloves sets themselves apart as a band to watch.
Hailing from Fresno, CA, Six Ounce Gloves got their big break when they opened for Korn after winning a local battle of the bands. This performance immediately created interest with fans attending the show
and their song, “Where Do I Go” became the #2 requested song on the Fresno hard rock radio station 103.7 KRZR. Since then, Six Ounce Gloves has been asked to open for Papa Roach, Chevelle, Breaking
Benjamin, Taproot among others.
KRZR is already playing the lead track, “Flee” from the new album and the band is receiving tremendous feedback from listeners. The staff invited Six Ounce Gloves to play their annual Manfest blowout on
Saturday, May 13, 2006. Six Ounce Gloves also played during the PPV World Extreme Cagefighting event on May 5 at the Palace in Lemoore, CA.
Six Ounce Gloves has harnessed an energy that is completely raw and even egalitarian by including the audience in the performance. Guitarist James Reynolds describes the scene, “The live shows are
seriously nuts. Our fans are up front and know the words to all the songs. Sometimes Mitch Gordon (the singer) will stop singing and the crowd will sing the words right back, even getting on stage with us
to sing along. We believe in holding nothing back and leave it all on stage. Our energy is both palpable and contagious, with the fans wanting more by the end of the night.”
