After 13 years and a year after the release of their latest album, "Wavering Radient," experimental metal band Isis has decided to disband. Here's the message from the band themselves:
"ISIS has reached an end. It's hard to try to say it in any delicate way, and it is a truth that is best spoken plainly. This end isn't something that occurred over night and it hasn't been brought about by a single cataclysmic fracture in the band. Simply put, ISIS has done everything we wanted to do, said everything we wanted to say. In the interest of preserving the love we have of this band, for each other, for the music made and for all the people who have continually supported us, it is time to bring it to a close. We've seen too many bands push past the point of a dignified death and we all promised one another early on in the life of the band that we would do our best to ensure ISIS would never fall victim to that syndrome. We've had a much longer run than we ever expected we would and accomplished a great deal more than we ever imagined possible. We never set any specific goals when the band was founded other than to make the music we wanted to hear and to play (and to stay true to that ideal), so everything else that has come along the long and winding path has been an absolute gift. As with any momentous life-changing decision (which this certainly is for the 5 of us), we feel a very dynamic range of emotions about this and cannot express all of it within the space of a few sentences, and perhaps it's best to do what we've always done in and let our music speak for us. It is and has been the truest expression of who we are as a collective and in some ways who we are as individuals for the 13 years in which we've been together. The last and perhaps most important thing we might say in relation to all this is how grateful we are for the people that have supported us over the years. It is a lengthy list that would include those who put out our records, those that played on them and put them to tape, the many bands with whom we shared the stage, all of our family, friends and companions who supported us in our individual lives and thus made it possible for us to continue on in the band, and most importantly those who truly listened to our music whether in recorded form or by coming to out to our shows (or both). It is quite true that we would never have done what we have without those people, that is many of you who are reading this. Our words can never fully express what we feel, but we hope that our music and the efforts made to bring it into being can serve as a more proper expression of gratitude for this life and for everyone in it. Thank you.
"In more immediate and practical terms the tour we are about to embark upon is indeed our last. We are hoping that these final live rituals can help us bring a close to the life of this band in a celebratory and reverent way, and also provide us with a chance to say goodbye to many of those that have supported us over the years. While there is a measure of sadness that comes with the passing of this band, we hope that the final days can be joyous ones during which any and all that wish to come and join us will do so. It seems fitting that the last show of the tour and of our active existence will take place in Montreal, the site of the very first ISIS show in 1997 (though that was an unintentional move when booking the show initially). After the tour we also plan to follow through with other projects set in motion some time ago - pursuing the completion of a final EP, compiling live audio and visual material for future releases, and generally doing whatever we can to make our music available for as long as there are people who wish to hear it."
Mike Patton and Greg Werckman (Ipecac founders) added:
"It has been a complete honor to be a part of the ISIS team. ISIS is a major part of our label's foundation. Those 5 talented guys are our friends and we look forward to see and hear what they each do in the future."

Gus G. (Firewind) has added his signature style and soloing to one of Kamelot's new songs that will appear on the band's upcoming CD. Kamelot's Thomas Youngblood commented on the collaboration:
"Gus and I have been talking about working together for a few years now, I first met Gus when Dream Evil played with us on the Japanese Tour in a few years back. Since then Gus' band Firewind has toured with us in Europe and Japan and we have become great friends. I have always thought Gus' style was very special and very unique, its really great to have him on the new album!"
Gus G. adds" "Kamelot is a very unique band with a sound of their own and I've always liked them. To be invited to play on their new album is an honor and jamming on their track was a lot of fun. During the time our bands toured Japan and all over Europe together, Thomas and I became good friends. I have great memories from being on the road with the guys and I'm glad I contributed to their new album."

Bassist Noah Martin, who announced his departure from Virginia’s melodic/technical death metal band Arsis in September 2008, has now announced his return to the band’s line-up. The band was on the “Facemelter Tour” with Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Annotations Of An Autopsy, and Conducting From The Grave when bassist Nathaniel Carter abruptly left. Arsis has now released the following official statement:
“So it's true that we have been playing as a three piece for a few gigs. Nat is out and if you want the real story come to a show and ask us, because trust me, that is much more fun and potentially colorful than reading it in an officially sanctioned and sanitized press statement. But this is a problem of very small gravity because we are inevitable and by the time the clock strikes midnight tonight we will be rejoined by our very dear friend and long-missed colleague ... (insert drum roll here) ... the immortal Noah Martin is back in our traveling circle of insanity! We will be turning the hell up to 11 in New Mexico tonight!”
Martin added: “Since leaving Arsis, I've been back in Virginia, finishing up my bachelor's degree. I'm still enrolled in college, so I'm kinda in the same boat as Mike [Van Dyne, drummer] as far as playing live goes. It's tough to stay away from what you love and know so well. For me, making music with James Malone means listening to obscure ‘80s metal, staying in seedy hotels, peeing in wrecked trailers, playing with Dutchstep, and singing like King Diamond. It feels good to be back in the fold, to make music with my friends. Good times.”
You can still catch Arsis live on the following dates: More...

Polish female-fronted act Crystal Viper has issued the following statement regarding the death of Ronnie James Dio:
"This was truly hard time for us. 2 days after the funeral of our friend Janusz Soloma of Stos (who died on stage while performing with the band on May 8, 2010 in Myslowice, Poland, after suffering a heart attack), we heard the terrible news about Ronnie James Dio. What can we say? Of course the family lost its member, lot of people lost great friend, and the world of music lost incredibly talented musician and artist. But Dio was someone else. He was the voice of Heavy Metal, the icon.
"Metal fans who are familiar with the sound of Crystal Viper, with no doubt could hear the huge influence he had on our band - yes, songs like 'Sleeping Swords,' 'Gladiator (Die By The Blade),' or the newest one - 'Secret Of The Black Water,' very actually inspired by such all time classics like 'Holy Diver' or 'Heaven And Hell.' Ronnie James Dio was also one of the biggest influences and one of the favorite vocalists of Marta - and again, people who witnessed the Crystal Viper shows, can only agree with these words.
"We're not afraid to tell these words: if there would be no Dio, then there would be no Crystal Viper in the shape you know. Dio was, no, Dio is - as through his music he is immortal - the voice of heavy metal. Now The Man has returned to the Silver Mountain, the King has returned to his temple. Rest in Peace, dear friend. You were our Rainbow In The Dark."

Besides a big promotion on the web, the video will also be part of the 10th year anniversary Unique Leader compilation DVD to be released this year."

The 2010 edition of the Jotunheim festival was scheduled to feature bands such as Thyrfing, Manegarm, Vreid, and more. The Jotunheim organizers have now issued the following statement about canceling the festival:
"We must inform you that we have unfortunately been forced to cancel the first edition of Jotunheim Festival! Jotunheim Festival is canceled due to apparent pressure from Antifa who believed that the line-up included bands that advocated fascism or were affiliated with fascistic political movements. This was completely untrue, with not a single band having ever expressed such political sympathies (if any), only pride in their heritage (though of course, any such display immediately gets Antifa up in arms anyway). Nor was there any statement made on behalf of the festival that specified any particulars about who could and could not attend, certainly not on racial grounds.
"Because of the Antifa groups, Northwind Promotion declines to do concerts and festivals in Croatia, and in the future will be focused on the external market where there are no organizations that will charge based on nonexistent facts. For a refund of the tickets, please contact us by e-mail email@example.com."

"A farewell to the King of Rock n Roll, Ronnie James Dio, the King of Rock n Roll, has passed away, and we are deeply saddened and touched by his departure from this physical realm. This is the biggest loss in the history of heavy metal music. All of us in Infinitum Obscure grew up listening to Ronnie James Dio in Rainbow, DIO and Black Sabbath and he has always been a personal inspiration to us in one way or the other. We bid you farewell Ronnie and thank you for the decades of timeless magical music that has inspired us through life and beyond. We cherish your gift of music highly and we hail you by the magic of Heavy Metal."

Vocalist Mordechai von Renvaktar commented: "’I väntan på den Absoluta Nollpunkten’ will be the final warning you'll hear from us before the unstoppable rage of Blekinge strikes down upon you with its full force. Heed the call and turn your backs to the Evil Star and you may die peacefully.”
Katatonia's Anders Nystrom has checked in with the band's ninth and final tour blog through Ultimate-Guitar.com. An excerpt from the blog follows:
"April 8, Travel day, Germany – Greece: After we’d made the only right but still difficult decision to cancel Sofia, Bulgaria we were left with two choices for the band and crew. Should we stick around in Munich, Germany for three days? Or try get on the soonest possible flight to Thessaloniki, Greece which we would anyway be playing next? The choice was pretty simple as everyone were longing for the good weather, delicious food and the nice atmosphere of Greece. Bye bye Germany, you were the best, my respect! Since we left the night liner behind the other night we had to try strip down our luggage and gear to a minimum in order to avoid massive overweight on the upcoming flights, so we sent everything we could do without back home and went for individual backpacker style.
"Still, we ended up having to pay hundreds of dollars in overweight on this first flight, but it could have been a thousand if we hadn’t found a cargo service that charges way less than the airlines do (they however usually ship the stuff onboard the same flight ironically enough!). A kind employee at the Lufthansa staff helped us out sorting the mess and we gave him a couple of tour shirts in return hoping he would become a metal fan if he wasn’t already. More...

Fortunately our friend Steve DiGiorgio will help us out and plays these special shows with Obscura. With that said, I will clear that Jeroen is not leaving our band nor is a session player. We will record the third album with the same lineup as with Cosmogenesis in 2008 and start a huge world wide touring schedule with Jeroen on our side on all shows when the yet untitled third album will be released."

Trivium frontman, Matt Heafy, has posted the following message on the passing of Ronnie James Dio:
"Trivium had the privilege of meeting Dio while touring with Heaven and Hell in Japan in 2007. We were just happy to be on the shows and didn’t expect to spend any time with any of the guys. Every single night of that tour Heaven & Hell blew our minds; we were fans in awe of how good they were. They had it all and to watch a group of musicians that deep into their careers so absolutely on top of their game like that was inspiring.
"One night after a show in Nagoya, I was able to pop in real quick to say 'hey' to Dio in his dressing room. I've been able to meet many heroes of mine in my life, but few have made impression on me like Ronnie James. He greeted me not as a support band member, but he welcomed me as a fellow musician and performer. He gave me a hug, invited a couple of us into his room where we all sat and talked and drank wine together. I remember our conversation crystal clear to this day. I told him how I met Bruce Dickinson on his BBC radio show and was asking Bruce about vocals and vocal techniques, and I shared with Dio that Bruce felt that I had started to develop my own vocal style and with work someday would further develop a stylistic similarity to Dio. Dio smiled and chatted about how he knew that Bruce was a fan of his voice, and from there we were able to just relax and talk shop about vocals and singing. Although it was a quick visit, Ronnie made me feel at home and was a really sweet dude. He gave us props, we finished our wine, we hugged and said 'See ya tomorrow.' It was amazing that I received vocal coaching from quite possibly the greatest metal voice of all time. I am truly grateful for the time he gave me and his personal insight into our shared craft. For that I will always be thankful."

Wilhelm Curse of The Electric Hellfire Club has checked in with the following statement about allegations that Terrofakt band mate Ben DeWalt is involved with Nazism:
"For any of the fans of the EHC who are into rhythmic noise and hard industrial; some of you may have heard the escalating rumor that Ben DeWalt, my friend, co-conspirator, and the founder of Terrofakt, is a Nazi. This could not be further from the truth. Ben has been our close friend for nearly 15 years, and we know that he is anything but a white supremacist. For the last few years I have had the privilege to play with Ben, as a member of Terrorfakt. During this time, I have come to know Ben much better than I ever did during the years that he represented the EHC. He is my close friend, and comrade in arms. He is a proud patriotic American, who firmly believes in the values that this great nation was founded on... among those being that all of us are created equal.
"My time with Terrorfakt has introduced me to many other associated acts and musicians, and to Terrorfakt's fanatically loyal fan base, all being of various ethnic and even religious backgrounds. Accordingly, I can categorically deny that any of these accusations have any merit to them. This smear campaign against Ben is perpetuated by an Industrial music outcast named Rachel Mandelson. She is more 'popularly' known as the idiot behind 'Experiment Haywire.' She is an individual who has failed to garner any success on her own, and has taken to making slanderous and libelous accusations against a much more popular and successful act, in order to gain attention for herself. Lemmy (Motorhead): "I'm truly upset, especially since he seemed to be rallying at the Golden Gods show. Bon Voyage, Ronnie. Rest in peace. I'm devastated."
Jeff Waters (Annihilator): "He was a super nice person, uniquely talented and has left us all with great music. You will never be forgotten and will live on in the music of so many others. Stand up and shout." More...

Tired of the massive hotels and casinos I found myself wandering off the Las Vegas strip (20 minute taxi ride West of Las Vegas Blvd) to check out Saint Rose at Feelgood’s Rock Bar and Lounge last Friday.
First let me say that Feelgood’s is not your typical Las Vegas celebrity rock bar (Read: Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina at Planet Hollywood), but rather an authentic rock bar complete with a dark atmosphere, a second floor cage area for go-go dancers in leather and chains, large stage, motorcycle parking (in full use this particular night), and state of the art sound system. With the exception of the name and small shrine on your way to the bathroom you wouldn’t even know the owner is Vince Neil (Motley Crue). More...
Well respected member of the Bay Area metal scene Debbie Abono passed away recently and veterans of the heavy metal community have posted some messages online, paying tribute to her work and her personality. Death Angel's Rob Cavestany wrote:
"Haven't been able to get online much the past few days on the road but now have had the chance to read all the posts about Debbie Abono and soak it all in. I want to express my gratitude and respect for all she did for our scene, my band and me individually. She was like a mom and mentor.
"She was there for us in so many ways at almost all the local shows and especially on one of the best tours we ever did (Death Angel - Act III / Forbidden - Twisted Into Form in 1990). Miss you, Debbie. Rest in peace." More...
Biff Byford, lead vocalist of the legendary British heavy metal band Saxon, has posted a message online detailing his thoughts on the passing of iconic heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio. The message reads as follows:
"Today I heard my friend Ronnie Dio has lost his battle. It is a great loss to us all. I first met Ronnie in the early eighties when we played with Black Sabbath and BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, the infamous Black And Blue tour. I first heard him sing on Butterfly Ball and from that moment I understood what great singing was all about, he was at the top of his game from then on. His voice was always powerful and soaring his phrasing was uniquely his, copied by many but never bettered. I will miss him as we all will. The last time we met was in Finland last year, both bands stranded in an airport with flight delays. What do you do, go to the bar, get drunk and tell rock and roll stories. He told great stories. Deepest condolences to his family.
"Somewhere in the night a candle burns for you.
"To absent friends."
Six Feet Under just got back from touring Eastern and Central Europe, and have posted some footage from the MetalFest leg. The first video is the band covering AD/DC's "T.N.T." and the second is the first ten minutes from another MetalFest set.
There is nothing quite like hearing Chris Barnes gargle all those pebbles live.

Joey Vera of Armored Saint and Anthrax has posted the following comments on the passing of Heavy Metal Legend Ronnie James Dio:
"Ronnie James Dio.
His name shall be part of the very definition of the term heavy metal.
All of us in this community owe a big part to him as he helped shape our entire genre. And he did it with complete originality and sincerity. He is the real deal.
By now you've read much about him and how every person who'd had the pleasure of meeting the man use the words "kind," "nice," "humble" and so on. I can tell you that these descriptions are truly accurate.
I had the honor of being on tour with Dio on two occasions. Once on his "Magica" tour in 2001 while I was in Armored Saint and then later in 2004 while I was touring with Anthrax. I would watch Ronnie every night side stage and I was continuously blown away by his high level of performance. I must have seen over 40 shows from this vantage point and I never, ever saw or heard a single flaw. You always knew he was a great singer but It was then that I was convinced that he was a gift to us from some other place. Then there's all the times I saw him with Sabbath.
I can't even go on…
When you have the privilege of meeting someone like Ronnie — an idol, a legend — you almost expect a person like this to be overly confident, cocky, and they deserve to be, really. But Ronnie was the complete opposite. He really was the most humble, sincere and kind person you'd ever meet. He would always find time to stop in his tracks and say a few words to you. He was so down to earth and generous.
Through his humility he's taught us all that a man is not measured by the size of his wallet, or trophy collection, but instead by the size of his heart.
I myself am glad that he chose the profession of singing because even though his body has been taken from us, his voice will stay here for all eternity.
We're all trying really hard here, but Ronnie, we can't thank you enough.
