Every Tuesday we share metal show mosh pit stories from bands and fans coming from every genre and corner of the globe. This week we have the following story from Illinois based act DaiTribe about a giant in the pit getting a taste of his own medicine:
Pits and stage diving has changed a lot in the last 20 yrs. First pit I saw was during my time in TX. Brutal and intense circles with a lot of surfing. Back then, you'd see them ignite like they'd been waiting all their lives to unleash and explode. I'd look out from the stage and see hundreds of kids having a great night. If someone got knocked down, someone would get picked up. The mosh pits would police themselves and everyone looked out for each other in the truest sense of brotherhood.
Fast forward to today where the spirit is there, it just seems like the outcome is very different. You see these giant guys in the center knocking down people half their size. The Brazilian style pits where the circle kicks rule and seems like most people aren't paying attention. Now, I took my hits back in the day, it was gonna happen. You might catch an elbow or a fist here and there but it wasn't intentional.
So, the funniest thing I ever saw was at a show and this girl had to be about five feet and it's the middle of the set. She's thrashing and holding her own and some giant guy who's at least a foot taller, goes against the pit and she lowers her head and nails him in the gut! At first I thought she'd knocked herself out cause she flew back about 4-5 feet before the pit caught her and put her upright again. I'd been watching this guy for a couple of songs and it was clear that he was way too out of it and just trying to hurt anyone he could. Coolest thing I saw all night cause she pretty much leveled him!
DaiTribe is out now with the new album "Epochalypse A.D." and recently released a new music video for the song "I Hate Me". You can also check out a track-by-track video for "Epochalypse A.D." at this location.
Check back in again next week for another dose of pit stories from fans and metal musicians.
The Bloodstock 2012 organizers have announced a further three acts for the Sophie stage at this year's festival.
Returning to Catton Hall, Witchsorrow threatens the British summer time with downtuned doom and gloom that echoes metal greats such as St Vitus, Candlemass and Trouble. Says mainman Necro Skull: "We are truly honoured to be returning to cast a shadow over Bloodstock once more. We promise you total doom annihilation, a celebration for the damned as the end of the world looms at the end of this wretched annum. To be in the company of such excellent bands as Watain, Alice Cooper, Orange Goblin, Grand Magus and Winterfylleth is a grand thing indeed. God curse us, every one!"
Returning for the second year in a row, London loud-louts Dripback take a break from the studio to come back to the Sophie stage with their seething mix of hardcore and death metal. The band commented, “For us it’s all about being intense in tents, so this really is the perfect festival slot for Dripback. We’re all so buzzing about playing with Crowbar, Hatebreed, Testament and all the other awesome bands, this really is the best festival."
Finally, Swiss thrashers Battalion make their UK debut at Bloodstock. The Thrash Maniacs check in to say: “It's the first time for us to play in England! What a fucking start! We're looking forward to kick some ass there!!! See ya Bloodstock! Cheers from Zurich, the Battalion-Bastards.”
"Psych Minus Space Control" -- the deranged fifth full-length from curious Norwegian black metal peddler Furze -- is currently streaming in its entirety, in conjunction with its release this week via Fysisk Format. Open the gateways to all forty-three hypnotic, disturbing minutes encompassing the album at this location. A track from the album is also available below. The following press release was also issued:
"The latest psychedelically-inclined blackened rock output from Furze's primary solo artist Woe J. Reaper and his close-knit team of henchmen have once again defied all expectations and delivered an expectedly odd, intriguing collection of unconventional blackened rock.
"Psych Minus Space Control is now ready for public consumption in multiple formats including digital download, CD and standard gatefold LP, and a special diehard vinyl version of the LP bearing a numbered logbook limited to 200 copies. Check out photos of the diehard version as well as an audio preview of the album at this location.
"Following a long line of releases including four previous LPs on labels including Candlelight and Agonia, Psych Minus Space Control, defies even the eccentric practices of past Furze albums, more rock/jam/broken-prog-oriented than ever, yet not without the usual oddities evenly mixing up the entire production. Recorded in three different studios, with sessions dating over ten years, the album contains material dating back to 1992. With over ninety percent of the LP lying in the vocal-free realms, Furze transgress the borders of black metal and classic psychedelic rock, evoking a mystic sensation of terror and elevation, suggesting a musical archetype where the powers of Sun Ra, Hellhammer and Black Sabbath come into one." Massachusetts metallers Revocation have confirmed that they will be taking part in this year's Scion Rock Fest on June 2nd taking place in Tampa, Florida. The event kicks off at 4 PM and will be held at four venues in the area including: The Ritz Ybor, Crowbar, The Orpheum and Czar Bar.
Revocation front man Dave Davidson spoke about playing this year's Scion Rock Fest: "We are very pleased to be a part of this year's Scion Rock Fest. We can't wait to tear it up and check out all the sick bands that are playing. Floridians, prepare for the onslaught!"
The band has also confirmed that Revocation will be taking part in the Shockwave Festival Tour alongside Fear Factory, Voivod, Cattle Decapitation and more. The tour kicks off July 6th in Seattle, WA and runs through August 4th in Hollywood, CA.
"This summer's Shockwave Festival is packed with totally sick bands and we're very pumped to be a part of it. We're already bros with a bunch of the bands on this package so we know it'll be a rager for sure and the fact that Fear Factory is headlining with direct support from Voivod is gonna make it totally insane. It's going to be a very booze drenched summer!" says Davidson.
Revocation will also be hitting the road this summer with label mates Dying Fetus and Six Feet Under on the "18 Nights of Blood Tour." The tour starts June 8th in Atlanta, GA and will wrap up June 29th in Tampa, FL. Dates are listed below. All engineering and recording is set to be done by Casket Robbery guitarist Cory Scheider (former Luna Mortis guitarist) with extra funding and support to be raised by fans through Indiegogo.
The band commented, "We are working on some of the heaviest songs we have ever written. There are a few songs done including a song titled Malevolent Milwaukee Massacre which is a song about Jeffrey Dahmer and a song about Jack The Ripper. This album will have a video and single to be released with it. We are seeking some distribution and/or label promotion and marketing to go along with this release. When we have the right backing to release the album we will set an official release date."
For fans seeking to be a part of this album the band has set up a donation page on Indiegogo. All donations will receive special perks and prizes including the opportunity to get credit on the album and hear demos and unreleased tracks from the album before it is released. Check out the Indiegogo campaign at this location.
Casket Robbery added, "Without a record label the costs of making a professional sounding album will be up to us. We have set up a donation page to help with the costs of mixing, mastering, and promoting this album. We want to have this album sound the best that it can for our fans."

Power-thrash metal underdogs Sacred Oath have released the video “Blood Storm” on YouTube to celebrate their exclusive digital release “Spells and Incantations” on iTunes today. The video contains rare performance clips and photos from the band’s personal archives spanning a 25-year tenure in the metal underground.
“I think perseverance is something to be celebrated,” says Rob Thorne, the band’s singer/guitarist. “It hasn’t been easy for us. It isn’t easy for anybody, really, but 25 years is a long time to hang in this business without the support of a record label. I like to think of us as pure, uncut. Or stupid.”

Bill Ward has posted another lengthy update on his blog, confirming that he will not be participating in any of the upcoming Black Sabbath shows including the UK's Download Festival, the Birmingham gig, or Lollapalooza. Here are some excerpts from Bill's update:
I sincerely regret to inform you that after a final effort to participate in the upcoming Sabbath shows a failure to agree has continued. At this time I have to inform you that I won’t be playing with Black Sabbath at the Birmingham gig dated May 19th, 2012, nor will I be playing at Download on June 10th, 2012. Further, I will not be playing at Lollapalooza on August 3, 2012.
It is with a very sad heart that I bring you this news. I am sincerely passionate in my desire to play with the band, and I’m very, very sorry that it’s fallen to this. This statement is even more painstaking to write, as I was particularly excited to play alongside Tony Iommi after the recent treatments he underwent. I wanted that to become a reality.
Story-telling aside, he continues:
Throughout this process, which began over a year ago, I have had to stand up for myself time and time again. I have had to stand up for myself and in doing so realize my actions indirectly, although unintentionally, are upsetting and hurting a lot of you. I know in my heart I couldn’t have done these concerts by agreeing the terms suggested. I made a solemn vow after the last European and Ozzfest concerts that I would never again enter into what was, in my opinion, a totally unsatisfactory contract. I have to stand for something, and as painful as it is, I’m doing it.
Earlier in April 2012, I’d been asked to participate “minimally” in the Download festival. I believe I’d been offered no more than three songs to play while another drummer presumably played the rest of the show with Black Sabbath. I was not willing to participate in that offer. I was not prepared to watch another drummer play a Sabbath set, while I was to play only three songs.
