Luke from Shiven Records has posted the following update on their bands:
"Things are running full force. Gorgasm, Ekser, and Arbiter of Conceit are all in pre-production for new full lengths which will see release dates by the end of summer/early fall. And I can say that all of the new material from these guys is absolutely punishing. Definitely going to be must have records for any fan of heavy music. Gorgasm is going to be playing a few shows in the upcoming months most notably the Deathfeast Open Air festival in Germany and the Central Illinois Metal fest. In Germany you will see Gorgasm pulverize the stage along the likes of NAPALM DEATH, IMMOLATION, ABORTED, and many other completely punishing metal acts. In Illinois, Matt Bishop has put together a lineup that is goddamned near unstoppable. Gorgasm will be sharing the stage with VITAL REMAINS, IMPETIGO, MORTICIAN, SEVERED SAVIOR, and tons more so show up early, leave late, and support these guys."
Tabu Recordings has signed 'primal caveman' death metal act, GOAT THE HEAD. Hailing from the muddy areas surrounding the river Nidelva in the Norwegian wilderness, GOAT THE HEAD are a barbaric four-piece that strip 'raw' of its arcaic meaning. Musically brutal, uncouth and coarse in appearance, the Trondheim-based band embodies nature at its worse.
Their penchant for keeping it "simple and organic" also reflects in their live shows that are peppered with nudity and primitive rituals.
Featuring Per Spjøtvold (ATROX) on vocals, Ketil Sæther (LUMSK) on guitar, Snorre A. Hovdal on bass and Kenneth Kapstad (ANIMAL ALPHA, ex-GÅTE) on drums, GOAT THE HEAD are getting ready to record their debut for TABU RECORDINGS (release in autumn this year).
For the first time after a hiatus of roughly five years, TENHI are about to enter German stages again, as they are going to perform a few choice concerts in September. Germany's own NEUN WELTEN, who are going to complement each performance with their mystical Nature Folk, will support the Finnish band.
The current tour dates areas follows:
06/09/07 D - Berlin - Maschinenhaus (http://www.kesselhaus-berlin.de)
07/09/07 D - Nuremberg - Diskothek Loop (http://www.loopclub.de)
08/09/07 D - Zwischenwelten Festival - Koblenz (http://www.zwischenwelten.net/)
09/09/07 D - Leipzig - Moritzbastei (http://www.moritzbastei.de)
A rare performance video of the pre-KORN band L.A.P.D. (short for LOVE AND PEACE DUDE) has been posted online at YouTube.
According to Amazon.com, L.A.P.D. consisted of "where-is-he-now vocalist Richard Morales and current KORN members James 'Munky' Shaffer, Reginald 'Fieldy' Arvizu, and David Silveria (contrary to popular belief, Brian 'Head' Welch wasn't an official member). So it's essential listening for anyone who loves KORN. Does it sound anything like KORN, you may ask? Hell no. L.A.P.D. aren't exactly original, and listening to this album is like a time-warp, back to the late '80s/early '90s. They combine all the obvious influences such as RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES and FAITH NO MORE, and throw in a little bit of old-school METALLICA for good measure." More...
Artists SKITLIV, the band headed by former MAYHEM vocalist Maniac, is set to join Japanese all-girl band GALLHAMMER, for a short, 4-date tour in the autumn. Already confirmed is a gig in Denmark on the 2nd October, when the bands will play Loppen in Copenhagen.
The doom black metal band was formed by Maniac in 2006 following a sabbatical from the music business which enabled the frequently controversial front man to take stock of which direction he wanted to head musically. Aside from Maniac on vocals and guitars, the band includes Ingvar on guitars, Peter on bass and Canadian drummer Trish. Un-mastered tracks from the band can be heard on the official SKITLIV MySpace page.
As previously reported, Maniac is also involved in TEAM ARMSTRONG, a side project loosely formed of various musicians from the Oslo scene who come together to play whatever kind of music they feel like playing, regardless of whether it is a genre they would normally be associated with. The band is due to play at Oslo’s legendary Elm Street Rock Café on May 1 and a rehearsal track has been uploaded onto TEAM ARMSTRONG’s MySpace page. Maniac has also just finished recording guitars and vocals for a track on the forthcoming album from Swedish band DEADWOOD.
Whilst this mini tour is likely to be the first opportunity many will have to see Maniac on stage again since 2004, it is also part of the much-anticipated first European tour by GALLHAMMER whose “The Dawn Of…” CD/DVD was recently released on Peaceville.

MACHINE HEAD frontman Robert Flynn has issued the following update covering their tour with Heaven and Hell and Megadeth to "Get Thrashed":
"I write to you from the beautiful city of Cleveland, Ohio in the United States of muthafuckin' America. We have been out with the HEAVEN AND HELL and MEGADETH guys now for almost three weeks, and man, what can I say... it's pretty unbelievable. Huge dressing rooms, killer catering, every enormo-bottle of Grey Goose vodka the venue can muster up, huge stages, killer lights, killer monitors, killer sound... and, we're on tour with BLACK SABBATH and MEGADETH... life is fuckin' good man.
"It's crazy, we've been having a blast on this tour. Tony Iommi walks by, 'You enjoying the tour?'... Dio pops into the dressing room with expensive wine and talks sports... Vinny Appice gives you a few beers... Geezer cracks a joke at his assistant's expense... it's like being in some alternate universe.
"The HEAVEN AND HELL camp have been amazing, treating us really well, a lot of respect, lots of love from the crew. They've made us feel very welcome. Even when they're kinda mad at us for all of our drunken friends they still give us the benefit of the doubt. The other night after the Texas show, we had so many fuckin' people in our dressing room partying and raging that they literally had security form a line between our dressing room and theirs, because every time one of 'em would walk out of their dressing room, one of our dumbass friends would beeline toward them — zombie like — 'Rooooooooooonnnnnniie!... Bleargh!!' They're really cool about it though, their people said, 'Can you and all your drunk friends please just go to the green room and party?' We're like 'Uhh... okay.'
"You can't really blame our drunk-ass friends though, it's not often that you see Tony Iommi standing 20 feet away from you. I can totally relate, Christ, it took me a week and a half just to muster up the balls to say 'Hi.' I never get starstruck, I mean, I NEVER get starstruck, but man, I don't know what it is... I see Iommi and there's so many things I want to say, and then I think, 'Nooo... I don't want to say any of that!' I have to do it before the tour's over though, I'll kick myself for the rest of my life if I don't.
"And man... they sound un-fucking-believable too, 'Holy Diver'!!!! Dio's voice is unreal!!! The band sounds great, they've got a really loose feel to their songs, lots of jamming, extended parts; which I was surprised about, I assumed they'd be strict about staying true to the records but there's a lot of improv onstage, it's bad-ass to watch. Jason Mendonca to discuss Catholic church's outrage at new album
Akercocke’s latest album, ‘Antichrist’ has caught the attention of the US printing plant where the CD booklet is being manufactured. According to an Earache representative, the plant is refusing to print satanic material.
In other news, the British progressive black metallers have also caught the attention of Catholic Church in Northern Ireland.
The band’s label, Earache, were contacted by BBC Northern Ireland who want to host a debate with the band and some noted ecumenical spokespeople. To be broadcast on The Stephen Nolan show the BBC are sending a broadcast truck to Nottingham’s Rock City venue where mainman Jason Mendonca will join the debate after he leaves stage at 10.30.
Metal Hammer spoke to Jason:
Tell us about the US printing press saying they won’t print your CD booklet because it’s satanic. “That’s just ugly. That's censorship. No matter how you look at it it’s really ugly. And it smacks of fascism to me. I wonder what other works of art – we are art which ever way you look at it – is barred from the good people of the United States Of America. What else they’re obstructed from seeing in their so-called democracy. It’s thoroughly un-American and thoroughly undemocratic actually.”
What was it they were so offended by?
“I don’t know. I’ve had a thumb through the booklet and I can’t see anything that is overtly anti-Christian at all.”
Do you think it was over-sensitive self-censorship on behalf of the printing press?
“Someone sees the word ‘antichrist’ and amongst the ignorant masses you get some form of moral hysteria [laughs] it’s comical. I thought the US was the land of the free. To try and cast any negative light on a minority view point such as ours is surely against their much vaunted and beheld first amendment.”
Tell us about the media’s involvement:
“I think the album has caused a bit of a stir amongst certain circles in Northern Ireland, and the BBC got wind of this and have set up a debate between us and some people who I imagine are quite incensed by our mere existence. I won’t comment any more on that until I’ve spoken to the gentlemen.
Surely there’s satanic stuff all the time, why has this issue blown up around you guys this time?
“I don’t know. I think it’s extraordinary. I wonder if whether periodically, under the guise credibility and in the interest of maintaining viewer ratings, this is just an easy shot at trying to put some sort of tabloid angle on something which in essence is rather innocuous. I’m quite amused to be honest. Anyone who took the trouble to research Akercocke would actually know that we’ve stated openly in the past – ten years – that we’re anything but anti-Christian."
Do you think that’s the media conveniently ignoring the facts in favour of sensationalising what they see as being a great story?
“I’d be interested to see how this was engineered, who brought our work to the attention of the catholic church. I think previous works have been infinitely more inflammatory, the words this time are purely poetic and surreal, it doesn’t lambaste or criticise religion or anyone’s way of life or thinking at all, so [laughs] it’s pretty funny really.
Do you think the media have latched onto it because in their eyes, it’s a classic tale of good vs evil?
“I strongly suspect that. I’d be impressed if any rational arguments are put forward when this takes place. I hope there are some intelligent and tangible arguments put forth, but I fear all that we will be confronted with is the usual blind dogma that certain monotheistic religions perpetuate in their reign of fear over the masses.”
Are you nervous or worried about the debate?
“I don’t view this as a battle or that I’m setting out to have some moral or ethical victory over anyone. I’m just prepared to speak about what we’re about and perhaps shatter a few illusions that people have about anything that people may have associated with the ‘S’ word. I’m not there to participate as a shock jock and be perceived as the evil one, because as anyone who knows us knows, there’s nothing remotely evil about us.”
Do you think the BBC are banking on some theatre?
“I don’t know, but I hung up my ham acting hat a long time ago.”
With the publicity this is a win/win situation for you.
“Yeah, it’s great. There’s no such thing as bad publicity. Bring it on.”
The show will be broadcast on BBC1 Northern Ireland live (available on Sky and freeview), live on 16th May.
THE NETWORK have posted a new mp3 on their MySpace page of a new track, “Prison Letters,” featuring guest vocals by Guy Kozowyk (The Red Chord), Ryan McKenney (Trap Them, Backstabbers, Inc.) and Adam Dulong (Cannae).

Finland's TORTURE KILLER will enter the studios in November to start recording a follow-up to their 2006 album "Swarm!"
"After the basic tracking done in Finland we will move to Hit Factory [in] Miami, where Chris [Barnes, SIX FEET UNDER/TORTURE KILLER vocalist] will start laying down the vocal tracks and hopefully the CD will be finished by the end of the year for an early 2008 release," the band writes in a press release.
"Things are moving along nicely and we are confident that we will have decent death metal album on our hands. The new songs are sounding great; all the 'Swarm!' elements are there and we think we've taken another step ahead with our approach on death metal, some really haunting guitar licks combined with a groove and more attacking style, hopefully we can catch all this energy the right way and I'm sure people are definitely going to enjoy this one." AYREON mastermind Arjen Lucassen's webmaster has issued the following update:
"Arjen just finished recording the demos for his seventh Ayreon album. As previously reported, Arjen went through a difficult time last winter. Since then he's been doing a lot better. He discovered that music truly is the best medicine and also drew inspiration from the many encouraging e-mails, letters, and postcards he received from his fans.
Though Arjen initially planned to release a single album, the plan - as always - changed as the composing progressed. Like The Human Equation and Into The Electric Castle, the new Ayreon will be a double album featuring 15 tracks with a combined length of nearly 100 minutes.
Arjen and Ayreon-veteran Ed Warby (GOREFEST - pictured) will enter the studio next month to record drums together with producer Gordon Groothedde.
Arjen is currently checking the availability of vocalists and instrumentalists to see who can be scheduled to appear. A number of vocalists have already responded enthusiastically. Arjen has a long wish-list, and it promises to be quite a puzzle to figure out who will be singing where and what.
No release date has been set."

J. Bennett of Decibel magazine recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
Decibel: A few years ago, you didn't want to play shows with ROTTING CHRIST and DISSECTION. Do you have a standing policy about playing with certain types of bands?
Mustaine: It's not necessarily a policy — I just follow my heart. Before, I used to follow my head, but my heart is closer to my gut. When I saw certain things I didn't agree with, I'd turn my head the other way before. I've never believed in singing about Satan and thinking he's cool, because he's not. When I was 15, I got into witchcraft and black magic, so I've known for over 30 years the power of the dark side, and it took me forever to break those chains. There's no cool way to sing about Satan — you look like a punk. For example, you know MERCYFUL FATE is one of my favorite musical groups, but the lyrics, to me, I can't get behind them. I don't mean to shame them — it's just not my bag. As far as me playing with bands like that, I started thinking, "You know what, Dave? You're a headliner. If you don't wanna play with people that make you uncomfortable, you don't have to." Especially if they're singing about the confessed enemy of someone you believe in… I mean, what idiot gets onstage with their confessed enemy? That'd be like two hip-hop guys who wanna kill each other going out together.
Decibel: King Diamond is definitely an actual Satanist, but Satanism is kind of a put-on for a lot of these other bands.
Mustaine: You think it's a put-on.
Decibel: Yeah, definitely.
Mustaine: You say that stuff, it's real. Words are real. Remember, I was into the one who was into the black side — you weren't. Were you?
Decibel: No, but why should that make a difference?
Mustaine: To say you're a confessed Satanist? I'm not intimidated by them, because I know they're just as misguided as I was at one time. But this is something that's a spiritual war and it doesn't have any place in a MEGADETH interview. A lot of people don't really care about what I believe — they just wanna hear what I play, and I'm fine with that. As far as the situation overseas you're alluding to, as a headliner who's sold as many records as I've sold and played in front of as many tens of millions of people as I've played to over my life — and this is the sunset of my career, where I get to enjoy the remaining years of my life — I don't wanna waste that. The promoter kicked them off and I was furious. It was like, "Well, why'd you put them on in the first place? Now that they're on, don't kick them off. We'll step down; we'll play another night." I'm not ever gonna kick a band off the bill if it's something I don't agree with. If I know about it ahead of time and I agree to it and change my mind, well, that's kind of chickenshit, isn't it?
Decibel: My point was that I think some of these bands are full of shit — that you shouldn't be as concerned about their beliefs, because for some of them, it's an act. And even real Satanists don't spend very much time hating God.
Mustaine: Well, the only other band I had a problem with was from overseas and the singer was a convicted double-murderer [referring to DISSECTION] and they'd been put on the show in Israel. Prior to that, I'd made a couple of things clear to my agent: I don't want tits and ass on my t-shirts, because I think that's kind of juvenile, and as far as the Satanic stuff, I've been there, done that and I found it kind of wanting. You can be so much heavier with stuff like a nuclear bomb than a pentagram. I mean, what's scarier: VX gas or an upside-down cross? So when the information was related to me that they'd been put on the bill, I said, "You know what? We can't play this show." And they'd kicked them off. But I was like, "Oh, my god, why did you do that?" Because that just makes me look like a fanatic and it doesn't really show the love that I have in my heart these days that I'd like to be able to share with these musicians. And this is really a fitting climax to anyone's career, because what do I have left to gain, my friend? A Grammy and getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Everyone thinks it's great to gets your hands stuck in cement in front of Guitar Center [on Sunset Boulevard in L.A.], but those are the things I'm looking for. I've got everything else I want: I've got a beautiful wife and kids — I've got a new puppy, for Chrissakes — everything in my life is looking up. I'm going to Hawaii next month to work on my tan for the next tour and see if I don't turn into a piece of flash paper. Whenever I go to the beach, it smells like pork rinds because I start to burn instantly.
Terror will be releasing a new MCD/7" this summer, the details of which have yet to be disclosed. Reflections Records will release the effort in Europe while Reaper Records will handle North America.

Norwegian documentary "Satan Rides the Media" (original Norwegian-language title: "Satan rir Media"), which traces the tumultuous history of black metal through the early Nineties, when a string of church burnings turned the nation's eyes toward a small group of sinister metalheads, has been posted online at YouTube (in Norwegian, with English subtitles):
The 52-minute film, which was originally released in 1998, spotlights Varg Vikernes of the one-man band BURZUM, and his involvement in the burning of the historic Fantoft stave church in Bergen. After a journalist interviewed Vikernes (who later changed his name to Count Grishnackh) and he confessed, the media went buck-wild with the satanist slant, and they portrayed the metal scene as black-clad, evil-obsessed devil worshippers with no remorse and a penchant for hoarding animal heads. Vikernes adored the media attention, and even used photos of the churches he burnt (three in all) on the cover of a BURZUM album. (This would become briefly popular, as the band MAYHEM used a photo of bandmate "Dead" on the cover of an album, shortly after he blew his brain out with a shotgun.) Vikernes, however, had a more traditional reason for burning the churches. "The church [in Norway] has behaved so disgracefully," said a clean-cut Varg from prison. He reasons that he was just trying to save Norway from Christianity and return it to its pagan (not satanic) roots. More...
