Souldrainer Part Ways With Mascot Records

Swedish death metallers, Souldrainer, issue the following update on their MySpace page:

"Hello friends! It was a while ago now.. We have been busting our asses with new material and today we recorded seven new butt kicking songs. We have left Mascot Records and now we are searching for a new label that will satisfy our needs. These songs are made as demo versions and will be used in the search for a label. Listening to the results from todays efforts we can only say it's really awesome how the recording turned out. It's been worth waiting for! wow! It sounds like we are moving towards a heavier sound (like we weren't heavy enough before huh?), more aggressive but yet in a Souldrainer-stylish way. Of course we still have the majestic foundation. Add a touch of evil on that and you are getting close to the new sound. Man, it's impossible to describe the new material with words, you gotta hear it - and you will!"

Otep Reschedules Shows

Otep namesake and frontwoman Otep Shamaya has checked in with this update:

"This tour has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. To be able to connect with so many people (strangers who know nothing, but understand everything) through ART is an event so profound that there are no words to truly articulate and express the experience.

"Most people know that the band and I give 2,000 percent of ourselves on stage and though the medical professionals have warned me to 'take it easy up there' or I risk serious damage to my throat, it is not something I am aware of while lost in the experience of spiritual intercourse.

"Truth be told, I know only two speeds — ALL or NOTHING. More...

Eulogy Guitarist Posts Update

Eulogy guitarist Jarrett Pritchard has posted this update:

"Rob (Barrett - guitarist; also CANNIBAL CORPSE) and I sat down yesterday and did all of his trax for the demo...Mike (Pogionne - bass) came down last week and did bass. It all went incredibly well. So soon we will be doing vox. Jason (Avery - vocals) has recovered relatively well from the accident. The doctors have said he is ok to scream....when I was learning of the rest he needed, it became semi-funny remembering Nick Holmes from PARADISE LOST talking in an interview about popping his eye out from screaming. In our case this was a real possibility. But he has been cleared for strenuous activity. Any of you who have ever seen him live knows that he is relatively strenuous.

"Saw DIMMU and BEHEMOTH and lots of friends at Jannus Landing (in Tampa) last week. Good Show. One of the better I have seen in a long while. In about a month (July 8th), Cannibal Corpse is releasing a documentary DVD. It spans their entire career and should be pretty great. A whole bunch of us were included in it. Both Jason and I (Jarrett) were interviewed and as far as I know included in it. So needless to say we are excited about seeing our grills on camera in a retrospective of some important death metal history.

"As this demo thing draws to a close, my main concern next is festivals. If your doing one...get in touch."

Tristania Parts Ways With Guitar Player

Gothic metal band Tristania have parted ways with their guitar player Svein Terje Solvang.

Tristania's male vocalist Østen Bergøy issued an update on the band's MySpace page stating "Putting a last hand on the preparations for WGT (Wave Gotik Treffen festival) and the upcoming tour in Latin America, we learned that Svein Terje had decided to jump the ship. The timing could not be worse, because it was way too late to replace him for the upcoming shows. I am not sure concerning the reasons – I hope for his own sake that they are valid. I love Svein Terje like a brother, but I must admit that this feels like being stabbed in the back. However, we will do the tour with Anders as the only guitarist. Not an ideal situation, but we will make it work."

Tristania went through another line-up change last year, replacing their previous female vocalist Vibeke Stene with Italian singer Mariangela Demurtas.

Exhorder Guitarist Vinnie Labella Posts Update

Vinnie Labella has now issued the following update on the band's reunion plans:

"Isn't it amazing what just sheer persistence will get ya these days? Well, you asked for it and you definitely waited long enough for it and now you got it. I thought I would never utter these words again but here they are — EXHORDER is officially back in business! Hmmmm, that shit sounded good.

"After tossing this around for quite some time, we actually just decided to do this less than a week ago, so at this time we have no real direction on what we want to do as far as shows, tours, albums etc. As of right now, the first step is to get a new bass player and get back to rehearsing (Sparcello [former EXHORDER bassist Franky Sparcello] is currently incarcerated). Sylosis Issues Studio Updates

UK metallers SYLOSIS have issued the following studio update:

"Finally, all of the rhythm guitars are finished! We've been very thorough, getting tight takes and re-writing riffs as we go etc but it's all been worthwhile. I've done like a song a day (thirteen songs in total - one of which wont make the album as we've got some long tracks).

This was going to be something we were guna keep as a secret to see if people even realised but this album is all in E standard - everything - and it sounds just as heavy! We've also only been using a 4 string bass tuned to E as well.?There are so many reasons for this - it sounds tight, clearer, more old school, you can afford to scoop a bit more midrange and you can really let the drums and bass provide more low end instead of everything sounding clicky and competing for the same frequency range.

There's something that feels inspiring and classic playing in E. Most of our biggest influences use standard tuning and it's really helped focus our sound and give us the tone we're after. We spend ages writing these riffs and now people can hear every single note we're playing. The definition is there and it's forcing us to tighten up our playing even more.
The riffage has been really tough in places. Tons of speedy alternate picking, down picking, string skipping etc. Not only that bit we're quad tracking the guitars (two tracks of guitars either side of the mix) which meant we had had to go for maximum tightness.

Anyways, we had enough of the caravan. It sucked so much that after about three weeks in there we couldn't bare it anymore so we upgraded ourselves into a Travelodge!"
