Throatruiner Records has issued the following announcement about Cowards releasing the new "Shooting Blanks and Pills" album:
"Drawing their influence from bands such as Eyehategod, Kickback or Deathspell Omega, Parisians Cowards will release debut album 'Shooting Blanks And Pills' on 12" vinyl and free download during June via Throatruiner Records (Birds In Row, Comity, Elizabeth…).
"Recorded by Parisian renowned producer Francis Caste at Sainte Marthe Studio, this full-length is a dive into the ugliest sides of hardcore, sludge and black metal. Cowards features current and ex-members of Death Mercedes, Hangman's Chair, Eibon, Glorior Belli…
"Gathering Parisians with an already strong pedigree in dark and heavy music, Cowards regurgitates gutter hardcore, unhealthy sludge/doom and nauseous black metal in 'Shooting Blanks And Pills,' their deeply raw and anxiogenic debut release. Only six months were needed to give birth to this full-length, monstrosity with a desperate urban feeling, bridge between the knife-in-the-heart crudeness of Eyehategod or Kickback and the majestic darkness of bands like Deathspell Omega or Thou. With a sound carrying smells of pissy streets and the dry blood you get for a sidelong glance, producer Francis Caste have perfectly catched the gist of these 38 minutes, recreating this forced apnea in a bile tank with a no frills approach."

Maurizio Iacono, frontman of the veteran death metal band, Kataklysm, has issued a statement on his official Facebook page commenting on the recent layoffs at Roadrunner Records and the state of the music industry in general. Numerous press outlets have picked up the strong and impassioned message in the wake of this massive hit to the heavy metal community.
“This is just the beginning,” wrote Iacono. “Not buying albums is affecting the labels who in return invest in the bands, tour support, recording... it's destroying all newcomer bands and [it’s] making middle class musicians poor. You're not hurting the labels by illegal downloading, you're killing the bands.”
He continued, “Starting a band these days is a suicide mission. If music becomes a hobby for musicians, then no more tours, no more good music. Dark times ahead. Well, wait, we have holograms now, don't need REAL people on stage... my bad...
“Again, it's not about me. I've had a great 20 years; if it ends tomorrow I can keep my head [held] up high for what I've done, but what about the new comers and the future of music? NOT good. It's not you the fans' fault, don't get me wrong. It's the system that let it happen. Governments, etc. could have stopped it. They didn't. Now it's up to us, the fans, to help out.
“Buy a shirt, CD, vinyls, download on iTunes, Amazon, the songs you like .. DO SOMETHING! I love you all, and always remember, you guys have all the power to build or destroy, we are only messengers of your voice.” More...

Not content with simply laying down the crushing grooves, MA puts for a socially-conscious lyrical approach critical of war, the media and much more."
"Listen up and get ready, we're taking this show on the road," exclaims MA bassist John-Ryan Godfrey. "What makes the green grass grow? Blood! And we won't be afraid to shed any for those who want it."

Slayer has issued an update to fans about the status of guitarist Jeff Hanneman, Gary Holt (Exodus) filling in on tour, and even some new songs. Here's the "open letter" direct from Slayer:
As you know, Jeff was bitten by a spider more than a year ago, but what you may not have known was that for a couple of days after he went to the ER, things were touch-and-go. There was talk that he might have to have his arm amputated, and we didn't know if he was going to pull through at all. He was in a medically-induced coma for a few days and had several operations to remove the dead and dying tissue from his arm. So, understand, he was in really, really bad shape. It's been about a year since he got out of the hospital, and since then, he had to learn to walk again, he's had several painful skin grafts, he's been in rehab doing exercises to regain the strength in his arm; but best of all, he's been playing guitar. We were all excited when he joined us onstage for the encore a year ago at The Big Four show at Coachella. Since then, we've given him all the time and support he's needed to continue his rehab so he can come back to the band fully recovered and able to deliver the kind of shows we all want him to. While Jeff's been doing some writing and has been coming to rehearsal over the past several weeks, he has decided he needs to take more time to continue his rehab. While we want him back onstage with the band, all of us support his decision. So, we're very grateful that Gary Holt will continue to fill in for Jeff, and will tour with us until Jeff completes his rehab and is ready to return. How long will that be? The best and most honest answer we can give you is 'as long as it takes.' We also wanted you to know that we've been doing some writing and recording for the next Slayer album - we've tracked a few songs, and will finish the album when we're off the road later this year. Gary will join us on tour in Europe and the UK in May and June, and then we'll all see you on this Summer's Mayhem Festival.
Metal Underground.com wishes Jeff a complete and speedy(er) recovery.

Infernus of Norwegian black metal act Gorgoroth has checked in with the following announcement about the band not embarking on an expected European tour this May:
"As many of you may have noticed, there has been no official statement from Gorgoroth confirming a European tour in May 2012, despite the fact that there have been several listings for such a tour on various non-band related websites, and there have even been tickets available for some of the supposed shows.
"Since January 2012 we have intended to go on a 21-24 concert May tour of the UK, Germany, Slovenia, Poland, Hungary, Austria, etc. And we have gone through a long process where ASP Concerts & Tourbooking (represented by Marcus Schreiber) were supposed to book this tour. It has been a nightmare process from day one, as Marcus Schreiber has shown a massive amount of both ill will and lack of ability in regards to arranging this in a professional and believable fashion.
"I have waited as long as I possibly could in the hopes that this project would be possible to go through with after all, but after today it was clear to me that we have no other choice but to make a statement where we confirm that there will be no European tour in May 2012. This is of course very regrettable for the band, for the local promoters who have got involved in this mess, and for all those who wanted to see us perform in May. For this I am sorry. It was a mistake ignoring other people's warnings about working with ASP and Marcus Schreiber. Both booking companies and other bands have warned us against this. We will never again work with him, and would not recommend anyone else to do so either.
"To our audience: Do NOT buy tickets for any Gorgoroth concert in May 2012. These concerts will not take place. If you have already done so, you should check with the local promoter or ticket vendor for a refund."
