Billbord.com reports that System Of A Down guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan are putting the finishing touches on the debut album from their new rock band Scars On Broadway, the pair tells Billboard.com.
The artists are currently shopping for a record label, and hope to release the self-titled set by late summer. "We're in the final stages," Dolmayan reports. "There are three or four songs left."
Scars On Broadway performed last week at this year's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival at Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif. The band already received a warm welcome earlier last month during its debut performance at the Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles.
"It was crazy," Malakian recalls. "Nobody knew any of the songs, but the crowd was going off. The response we got gave me a lot of confidence."
So far, only one Scars On Broadway song, the hard-edged "They Say," has been released online. With about 20 songs already recorded, many of which won't make the final album cut, another track could be posted online before the album drops, according to Malakian.

Christian Hector commented on his leaving the band "It's been some years since Carmen and me started out forming Midnattsol. Now it's time for me to move on and experience new musical directions. My decision is due to the musical development of the band, the lack of time for family and friends and last but not least my second band AHAB. The following press release has been announced:
Reunited progressive metallers CYNIC, whose 1993 album Focus is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal, have inked a worldwide deal with France's Season Of Mist Records.
The band is set to enter the studio this summer with Grammy-award winning producer Warren Riker (DOWN, SANTANA) to begin work on it's long-awaited follow-up to Focus. The CD will contain eight songs, and the band is working once again with renowned artist Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for Focus).
A late 2008 release is expected, to be supported by additional live shows, soon to be announced.
Cynic founding members Paul Masvidal (guitar, vocals) and Sean Reinert (drums), who both gained reputation and praise while performing alongside Chuck Schuldiner and DEATH in the recording and touring lineup for the milestone album Human, recently spent time at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida working on the mix for three new demo tracks with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DEVILDRIVER, etc.).
The three new songs - 'Integral Birth' (which can be heard on the band's MySpace page), 'Evolutionary Sleeper' and 'Adam's Murmur' - led to the return of Focus bassist Sean Malone, who had heard the demo material and was excited by it. Although Sean had been busy as a teacher in another state, he renewed his ties with Masvidal and Reinert and it was decided that Malone would join them both for the recording of the second album, as well as live shows whenever possible.
Rounding out the group's current lineup is Tymon Kruidenier, a talented guitarist out of the Netherlands who will also handle the aggressive vocals.
Lancaster, PA based metal band This Or The Apocalypse have been signed to Lifeforce Records America.
Lifeforce Records commented on the addition of This or the Apocalypse to their roster "This or the Apocalypse encompasses a sound that melds the fine PA traditions that have brought us the likes of August Burns Red, A Life Once Lost and This Day Forward while taking their musical direction to a new and uncharted height. Exhibiting a veteran-like display of confidence and focus, TOTA’s accelerated evolution redefines how bands come into their own. TOTA tightrope walks between masterfully crafted time signatures, dense rock grooves and melodic atmosphere. Their music combines the precision and technical prowess of Meshuggah with the raw, emotive urgency of Shai Hulud and Misery Signals: A sound that is loud, compelling, and unique."
Their debut album, "Monuments," is currently set for release some time in September. More...

"I felt the need to check in and let everyone know what the latest and greatest is...as you know, my original band, STP, have reunited and are gearing up for our 4 month tour of the U.S. this summer. I'm really excited to be back in cohoots with my old buddies and share that tingly feeling when we perform.
"I've been crazy busy since coming off tour and never get the chance to sleep in anymore! I have been working on my solo record, which will be a double album due for a November release. It's gonna be awesome, with many different musical influences like rock, punk, R&B as well as an eclectic blend that we've come up with over the years. Can't wait for everyone to hear it. I'm also in the process of writing my autobiography along with famed writer David Ritz, also due out toward the end of the year. It will be a collection of stories, experiences and lessons throughout my life. Definitely a good read.
"Well, I gotta hit the studio now. Ill do my best to check in every now and then. I want you to know, I ALWAYS appreciate the love and support and am excited to give you all a great tour."

The following message had been posted on Vader's official web site regarding their XXV-Anniversary Tour 2008:
"On 21st of April in Berlin, war machine Vader kicked off the anniversary tour in Europe. The first week of the tour was nothing but great! All the shows we played so far were just fantastic, many metalheads came to see Vader and special guest acts of the tour- Septic Flesh, Devian, Inactive Messiah. 'XXV-Anniversary Tour 2008' is a great opportunity to see the leading European death metal act (and one of the best groups of death metal genre in the world) in its top condition. After 25 years they are more dangerous than ever, playing killer sets every single night. Best show so far was definitely in Antwerpen where 650 maniacs unleashed pure hell! Fantastic turnout (for so extreme genre of music) in Hannover (300), Haarlem (290), Leuuwarden (300)... "

After teaming up to write, Michelle Meldrum and Gene Hoglan recently announced MELDRUM’s new member lineup before entering the studio to record tracks for their new album in Los Angeles, CA on April 29.
MELDRUM’s new lineup features: Australian metal vocalist Michele Madden (Tourettes), Laura Christine (Warface), Gene Hoglan (Death, Dark Angel, Strapping Young Lad) and Michelle Meldrum.
The new album, in which band members strive to transcend anything previously recorded, will follow up their last CD Blowin’ Up The Machine, which released last year on Frontiers/Locomotive.
According to Michelle Meldrum, “The new songs are slammin’, heavier and more exciting than ever. I am honored to work with Michele Madden, she is an amazing singer with an extremely heavy voice and a huge range. We are venturing into new territory sonically, and can’t wait to perform the new material live. Laura Christine is beyond awesome and definitely brings a heavy edge with her background experience from WARFACE, and…well, Gene is a drum god and his history speaks for itself. It’s a new era for the band and it feels great.”
Gene Hoglan added, “Both Michelle and I are super-excited to be working with the amazingly-talented and ultra-gorgeous Michelle Madden, and we welcome her with open arms into the MELDRUM family. We‘ve been writing a ton of new, ballcrushing, METAL-as-fuck songs in celebration of the leggy one’s arrival on our shores. I’ve had the utmost respect for the past five years, and always considered Madden to be, in every awesome and cool use of the term, a rock star. BIG respect, absolutely, and I can’t believe I actually get to play in a band with one of my all-time favorite vocalists. I’m real psyched, and no one in their right mind is gonna disagree with the fact that this band has just gotten WAAAY mightier with our new addition. Fuckin’ rights.”
MELDRUM plan to unveil sneak peaks from their studio sessions on their website in coming weeks, with news on the new release and tours forthcoming.
After playing under the name Dahlgren Prophecy for the past two and a half years, the Frederick, Maryland metal band has decided to change their name to Dismal Tide. The main reason for this is due to changes in line up and the direction of the newer material. "We are no longer the same band that we used to be, and so it's only fitting to change the name to go with the new directions," the band states.
Dismal Tide will head into the studio with Mike Schleibaum in late June and is expecting to have a new release by mid- to late summer.
You can check out some new material from their 2008 demo on their MySpace page.
