After recently parting ways with vocalist Niklas Kvarforth, Den Saakaldte has now issued the following update about recruiting a new front man:
"When Niklas decided to leave Den Saakaldte in order to focus to his main band Shining, we knew that it would be damn difficult to find someone capable and charismatic like Niklas is. We think we did well in finding that person…
"We are proud to announce that the new vocalist of Den Saakaldte, is no other than Mr. Øyvind Hægeland, known for his amazing work with Spiral Architect, Arcturus, Scariot..

Brazilian grindcore Desalmado, which recently signed to Greyhaze Records, which will be releasing a new EP and full-length album. The band's publicist commented on Desalmado:
"Based out of the densely populated city of São Paulo, Brazil, the act now known as Desalmado already made quite a name for themselves throughout South America over recent years under the name El Fuego. After some revamping, the band are at their finest hour to date with the current lineup, actively devastating live audiences throughout Brazil and writing plenty of material. Desalmado's crushing socio-political attack surges with stripped-down death metal strength, resulting in brutal, modern grindcore fans of Napalm Death, Kill The Client and Brujeria will definitely not want to miss."
Greyhaze Records will release Desalmado's Hereditas 10" EP worldwide within the Summer months, with final release info and street date to be confirmed shortly. The band is also currently recording a brand new full-length, which Greyhaze will release later this year. The band's upcoming live shows are as follows:

Noisecreep.com is currently streaming a new track from Taletellers. The track, entitled "Sadistico," is taken from the band's forthcoming album "Radicalizer," which is scheduled to be released April 19th on Metalville Records. Listen to "Sadistico" by heading over to this location.
Taletellers was formed in late summer 2005, with Alan Costa and Stefan Kuhn being the first band members, after Alan Costa split up his previous band Taletellers Soulsellers. Alan explained the band's name:
"For me the story of Taletellers starts with the forming of my very first band Taletellers Soulsellers a couple of years ago. After that band eventually split up I took some of the songs with me and Stefan and I decided to make Taletellers the new band name, because we wanted to show that the new band marks a new start, but to show also that the music was still very much rooted in the first band."
The artwork for "Radicalizer" was once again designed by Mark Wilkinson and can be viewed below.

Monsterworks has posted a music video online for the song "God," which can be viewed below. The video was compiled from band footage taken on March 26th, 2011 at Zed One Studios in Camden, London. The band also commented on the clip:
"This is the title track from The God Album by Monsterworks, released on Casket Music 28 February 2011. The general philosophy of the album is summed up well by the Marcus Aurelius quote used at the beginning. The song is a general commentary on religion but also specifically deals with the god of the Old Testament. This character could easily be considered 'unjust' according to the Aurelius definition (e.g. sending floods to drown children and suggesting putting to death anyone who works on the Sabbath etc).
"The point is, the most popular gods of today (as always) are promoted by a system of control with a threat of divine punishment to force you to follow their rules, no matter how crazy they sound. If you have had some kind of experience that makes you a true 'believer' then you can take comfort from that and hopefully use it to live a better life, but realize that religion itself is usually only a barrier to the happiness of yourself and those around you. ...enough of the philosophizing. Enjoy the metal!"
British melodic death metallers The Soulless, who are due to release their new album "Isolated" on May 16th, have added two new members to the group's line-up.
Formerly known as Ignominious Incarceration, vocalist Andy Wardle, guitarist Steve Brown, and bassist Chris Ball have added Kristen Dawson as the group's second guitarist and Dan Wilding (Aborted, Trigger the Bloodshed) as the band's new drummer.
The Soulless comment on new guitarist Kristen Dawson:
"We auditioned guitarists for months, with not much luck for the perfect shredder. The band While She Sleeps are great friends of ours and recommended a guy from their area. They said he was perfect for the band and we trust their opinion so we gave him a shot.
"He sent us an audition video for the song 'Earthbound'. His was by far the best audition video so we invited him down to the studio while we were recording 'Isolated', the debut Soulless album. We wanted Kristen to hear the album to ensure it was the music he was interested in. He loved what we were doing and really wanted to be involved. He stayed with us over the duration of the studio time. This allowed us to test him out as we could get him to play along to the studio tracks as if recording, so we could hear every mistake. He nailed what we gave him, especially considering the short time he had to learn the songs. We spent two weeks with him and got on well so the decision was easy.
The band also commented on recruiting a new drummer: More...
Australian metallers Pegazus have just announced they have postponed their "In Metal We Trust Tour" till later in the year. Guitarist and founding member Johnny Stoj commented about the postponement:
"Recently, we were hit with some unexpected situations which were unfortunately out of our hands. We feel very disappointed that the band won't be in Europe for this summer as planned for our club shows tour and festivals appearances.
"Now we have to wait a few more months before we can hit the European stages and do what we love to do best! The great news is, that Pegazus will be touring the world later in the year for our In Metal We Trust Tour. See you all out on the road soon!"

Massacre Records has issued the following announcement about signing a deal with Marienbad:
"Can you feel it? Can you hear it? Just a breeze, hard to hear - there's a cold wind here… It was in the early 60s, a valley was flooded and a storage lake appeared right where the small town of Marienbad once was. The inhabitants were relocated – but the twelve who didn't wanted to go and preferred suicide than an uncertain future…
"Marienbad is the new project of the two Eisregen musicians M. Roth (concept/vocals) and Yantit (composition, guitars, keyboard), where they let Marienbad rise from the dark waters once again and tell those legends that have been almost forgotten.
"On their journey they are accompanied by Allen B. Konstanz (drums) [The Vision Bleak] and West (bass) [Panzerkreutz, Hämatom]. So a conceptual double album was created (with both German and English lyrics), which - after almost 18 months of work in the band's own studio - will soon be presented to the listener. Markus Stock (Eisregen, The Vision Bleak, Maroon) has mixed and mastered the album in February 2011 at the Klangschmiede E studio."
"Werk 1: Nachtfall" will be released on May 27th, 2011 via Massacre Records. It will be available as 2CD and as a limited numbered A5 double digipak version. Head over to this location to listen to "Flammnacht" taken from Marienbad's forthcoming album.

Metalunderground.com has obtained the exclusive premiere of Austin, Texas death/thrash band Nokturnel's new song, entitled "Ancestral Calling." This song is the band's first new recording in two years. The band hopes to release more new material before Maryland DeathFest 2011.
Lyrically, Ancestral Calling ended up becoming a prequel to "Legend of the Wolven" from the "Fury Unleashed" album. Musically, this song stands on its own, once again covering new territory for Nokturnel. Stevens composed everything, recorded all vocals, guitars, and bass. Session drummer Chad Walls who played on the "Demonic Supremacy" single returned to keep Nokturnel from dealing with impending delays.
You can stream or download "Ancestral Calling" below.
Download an MP3 of "Ancestral Calling" here (right-click and "Save Target As")
Band founder Tom Stevens commented: "I am extremely excited to have Chad contributing to what I feel is the most important song of my career. His drumming is solid and his professionalism in the studio delivers unto me a piece of work my engineer finds to be perfect for us to work with, it's effortless for me. Chad really brought my riffs to life. Nokturnel fans owe this man their gratitude, he is an important part of Nokturnel and I very well may not have accomplished all I have done in 2010/2011 without the jump start he gave Nokturnel. Horns up Chad! Thanks!!!!!!!!"
Stevens also wanted to add this message:
"I would like to express my personal condolences to a fallen hero of mine. The day after I recorded this track I woke up feeling victorious, as every ounce of my being went into this song. To discover someone in one of the most influential bands of my life had passed on only a few minutes later just crushed me. I'd like to dedicate this track to Scott Columbus, and while raising Hammer I say thanks for all the Great music Scott! You will be missed! Hails to a TRUE KING OF METAL!!!!!!!!"
Nokturnel is scheduled to appear at the Maryland Deathfest on Sunday, May 29th at 1:00pm. More...
Darkness By Oath has issued the following update about the guitar recording process for "Near Death Experience," the band's upcoming album:
"Hey people: Just wanted to update our recording diary, so here we go. Guitars are almost done, except some acoustic stuff that would be done later, but all in all, the whole songs are finally recorded the past week.
"Now, it's Gorka's turn on bass. He is at Auryn Studios with Tris recording the bass lines, and here's what he has to say about the recording so far: 'The bass recording is going as planned. We've half of the songs done already and the takes went good and smooth. I'm sure the bass sound is gonna be massive!'
"Gorka will probably end his part of the recording by the end of the week. Next one recording will be Aritz, but he won't start recording until we are back from our dates in Belgium on Easter."
The band's last studio update is also still available at this location.
Following on from the recent news that Shining had parted company with Indie Recordings and signed with Spinefarm Records, the band has debuted a track from the forthcoming album "VII / Född Förlorare," which in English means "Born Loser." The track, "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel" can be heard in the player below. Vocalist Niklas Kvarforth also recently quit all his other bands in order to focus on shining.
All the music and lyrics for "VII / Född Förlorare," which is due for release on the 25th May, were written by front man Niklas Kvarforth, and the album was recorded over what the band describes as "three long years" inside the Slaughterhouse studios in Sweden, with Rickard Bengtsson once again producing.
Kvarforth himself defines the finished result as "The" Shining album. "It is", he commented, "the natural successor to our fifth album 'V/Halmstad,' rather than to our last release 'VI/Klagopsalmer,' which I have always thought of as more of an experiment both in terms of writing and performance." Canadian heavy metal outfit Cauldron has posted a new music video online for the song, "All Or Nothing." You can check it out below. The song comes from the band's latest studio album, "Burning Fortune."
Frontman Jason Decay comments: "The video is basically a concentrated day, or a final straw in the life of Cauldron. We based the concept around the lyrics of the song, which is a bit of an ongoing theme with Burning Fortune. We went for a bit of an edgy type of music video rather than the same old thing 'cause we figured we wouldn't get played on TV anyway.
"It was directed by Kevin MacAllister who normally does videos for Lush Cosmetics. We got hooked up through a friend who used to work there and just went for it. Ian's scene is actually shot at the Lush factory in Toronto..." More...
Keyboardist Per Wiberg has been relieved of his duties in Opeth as part of a mutual decision with the band. Keyboard duties on upcoming tours will be handled by a musician who is already rehearsing with the band, but has not yet been named. Vocalist/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt released the following statement about the matter:
“Well, it’s been somewhat of a revolving door of members during the last couple of years, and now, Per is no longer a member. Mendez, Axe and Fredrik and I came to the decision that we should find a replacement for Per right after the recordings of the new album, and this came as no surprise to Per. He had, in turn, been thinking about leaving, so you could say it was a mutual decision. There’s no bad blood, just a relationship that came to an end, and that’s that. We wish Per the best, and he did a splendid job recording keyboards for the last record, which stands as his final recording with Opeth.”
Opeth is currently working on the band's new album, which follows-up the 2008 release "Watershed." The upcoming album is due out this Fall on Roadrunner Records.
Posting news about Sepultura is something that I always enjoy, because they're one of my absolute favourite bands, and dread because I know of the written onslaught that will follow with each and every article. For those of you who are unaware of why this may be, the diatribes that come with the articles and the background, permit me to shed some light on the subject.
Sepultura is a heavy metal band that formed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera and bass player Paulo Xisto Jr, as well as a guitarist called Jairo Guedes. After releasing an EP called, "Bestial Devastation" in 1985 and a full length, "Morbid Visions" in 1986, they split with Guedes and recruited guitarist Andreas Kisser. This lineup of the band released several more albums and became one of the most well known bands to ever come from Brazil. They gained worldwide recognition for their album, "Chaos A.D." in 1993, which is considered their best album by many fans, and expanded their reputation as metal superstars with their 1996 album, "Roots," becoming one of the few metal bands to find success in the 90s along with Pantera and Machine Head. At the end of 1996, Max Cavalera, the group's singer and rhythm guitarist, left the band as a result of the other members not wishing to extend the contract of their manager, who was/is also Max's wife. Following this, the band recruited a new singer in American born, Derrick Green. Since then, the band has received a huge backlash from fans because of the lineup change, with many calling on the band to change their name, especially since drummer Igor Cavalera left in 2006 and daily pleas to reunite the classic Cavalera/Cavalera/Kisser/Xisto lineup. For many people however, it seems they don't even know why they feel the urge to demand a reunion, except that they want to see the classic lineup live... maybe. In this article, I'm going to attempt to explain why I think a Sepultura reunion wouldn't work, why people are wrong to demand it and what the alternatives are. More...

The band commented on the album by saying:
"Putting out a fourth record is a little scary because we obviously have our sound figured out at this point, but we don’t want to put out a record that just sounds like a redux of our previous albums. Our tastes are always evolving as musicians and we’ve been motivated to progress as a band and push ABR in different directions, while maintaining the characteristics that made us the band we are in the first place."
Footage of the band in the recording studio can also be found at this location.
Circle Takes The Square has posted the following update online, detailing the progress of its forthcoming studio album "Decompositions Volume 1."
"From the very beginning of the writing process, our mission statement was to comprehensively explore the musical themes that we were creating. We set out to build upon the stylistic foundation we had established with As the Roots Undo, but were determined to provide ourselves with the room to experiment, and try our hands at more repetition, variation and management of space in ways we hadn’t attempted before.
"We decided not to let song-length or other logistical limitations inhibit the sprawling arrangements we were crafting, and ventured to grant each individual idea within our multi-movement songs its own chance to meander and evolve: sometimes in linear ways, and sometimes within the framework of more traditional progressions.
"Our emphasis on fine-tuning, experimenting with, and expanding our approach to song structure enabled the creation of the three fully-arcing, musical story-lines that will make up Decompositions Volume I."
