The "supergroup" known as Chickenfoot -- comprised of ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and guitarist Joe Satriani -- have announced plans to release their first album.
The self-described "accidental" collaboration occurred as a result of jam sessions at Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Their self-titled debut will drop June 5, and comes complete with a "heat sensitive sleeve" which will reveal the cover artwork via touch.
Pelican has rescheduled their Chicago show that was cancelled due to snow. The Empty Bottle rescheduled the show for Friday, April 24th. All previously purchased tickets will be honored and Tombs will be driving down from New York just to make the rescheduled date.

Darkane has issued the following update:
"We're back in Sweden from what we believe was a very successful tour in North America together with Soilwork, Warbringer and Swallow the Sun. Thanks a lot to the other bands, crew and all the fans that showed up and made us feel welcome. Playing 50 shows in 52 days was kinda tough but we're very happy we managed to pull it through without any bigger issues. Now we are focusing on writing new material for the next album but before that we have a show at The Tivoli in our home town Helsingborg tomorrow (Saturday April 4th), and then we have the Roskilde festival and Nuclear Assault festival booked for this summer, and hopefully more will show up. Next week Peter Wildoer will head out on a European tour with Pestilence for three weeks."
"I am also very proud to announce that I am now officially endorsed by Steve Clayton guitar picks. I have been using Clayton pics (1.26 mm) since the middle of the nineties. Since Darkanes music is based on accurate playing I need a pick that feels steady and that I can count on when I hit my strings very hard. With the Clayton picks I get a very good and reliable grip allowing me to alter between fast and rhythmic playing without having to think about what my right hand is doing. See you out there!"
One Man Army and the Undead Quartet guitarist, Mikael Lagerblad, has left the band. The band comments:
"On the first of April 2009 our longtime friend and bandmember Mikael Lagerblad decided to quit the band. His thoughts has been towards this decision for a while now even though we haven´t seen it coming. But being in this band is of course all about free will. If you don´t feel comfortable in being in a band that plays extreme music and loving every minute of it, then you shouldn´t be in the band. More...
Meshuggah has cancelled their upcoming Scandinavian tour due to drummer Tomas Haake's hirneated disc. A message on the band's web site reads:
"We're VERY VERY sorry to have to bring you these news, but we have to cancel the upcoming Scandinavian dates!
"Tomas has had some back-related problems lately. Problems that have been messing with his right foot/leg when playing drums!
"Tomas did an MRI about a week ago and the results came back early this week. Seems he has a hirneated disc in his lower back and this is what's been causing problems for him when playing! More...

Idaho black metallers Sonic Devastation have issued the following announcement about changing their name to Cvltvs Mortem:
"The art may appear familiar to our Sonic Devastation family and friends here on MySpace, but obviously one drastic thing has changed....our name! The new name, Cvltvs Mortem is being transitioned to quickly and with as much care as possible. We have felt for some time that our name has been drifting away from our music as it gradually became heavier and darker than the title Sonic Devastation seemed to represent. We hope to make the transition as seamless as possible and thank you all for your support over the last few years as well as into the future. The timing is ideal for us to make this change with new music having been written and currently being recorded for our next chapter. The members remain the same, we hope you'll embrace our new artistic vision into the future of the band!"
Chaoswave has issued the following statement about acquiring a new full time bass player:

Now it's "cazzi tuoi" as the Italians would say (literally translated "your dicks")!
"Please everyone reading this, write Michele a welcome message as a comment to this article or directly on our myspace. "

VICTORY RECORDS has signed Los Angeles recording artist OTEP. OTEP has sold over half a million albums sold over the course of three studio albums. Singer, songwriter, renegade Otep Shamaya describes the band’s music as “a total and complete mutiny on the senses. We are a fusion band by nature, inspired by many styles and tones from a variety of musical genres- rock, punk, metal, hip-hop, spoken word, jazz and classic rock. We never allow the antiquated limits of a genre confine or restrict us. Our music is universal and does not belong nor can it be contained in a nice, neat, little box.”
The first release under the new alliance is OTEP’s highly anticipated fourth full-length studio album “Smash the Control Machine.” The new studio album will be released August 18, 2009. Ms. Shamaya says of the album, “The economic crisis is hitting every working family in this country. The album and its title track, 'Smash The Control Machine,' will lay bare the greed and corruption that fostered this calamity, but will also focus on the undying spirit of the working class that always fights the good fight. The title is a line from a William S. Burroughs poem. It is my intention to create an album that serves every head of the hydra that is OTEP. From poetry, to politics, to shock and awe, to sex and righteousness, to standing up and fighting back. Like the mystical symbol of the Ouroboros (the sacred serpent swallowing its tail) all things will be brought back to circle.” More...

"We're in New Orleans today, just came off stage, it's so humid here, but works for me! Things are going GREAT, the bands on the bill are all awesome and we're having a great time hanging out with them. We already did few barbecues in the night after the shows, which is always cool and comforting (food on the road is not like home) , plus it's a great chance to socialize with the HUGE amount of people involved in this festival.
"We brought our electric moka machine as usual (Italians!), so our bus it's a sort of moving bar full of guests coming in and out, ahah! More...

Southwestern extreme metallers Darkness Before Dawn is the latest signing to Bombworks Records. Hailing from Glendale, Arizona, Darkness Before Dawn has been a force in the Southwest scene for a number of years now, blending epic death and black metal with a modern edge for a powerful brutal sound that is both melodic and heavy. The band self-released a 5-song self-titled EP in 2007 that featured more of an epic metalcore sound that borrowed many elements from death metal and symphonic black metal. The band continued to refine their sound and later recorded a 3-song demo in 2008 that boldly supplanted itself in the realm of extreme metal, taking cues from symphonic black metal, death metal and prog while retaining a modern edge, incorporating death growls and black shrieks, blazing guitar leads, bombastic drumming and bass work, and keyboards to provide atmosphere throughout.
The band will be heading into legendary Lambesis Studios for the month of April to record their debut full length, tentatively titled "King's to You," which will feature 11 brand new tracks. The CD will drop in June and will be available from the band for their tour up to Cornerstone, which includes an opening night slot on Bombworks Records' sponsored Day of Metal stage. Check out the band, as well as 4 songs (the 3 from the 2008 demo and 1 from the self-titled EP), at their MySpace page.
