"We've been gradually recording 3 new songs with Jeff at our practice spot and with Tommy Jones and Jeff at The Studio in Trenton, NJ. Drums and rhythm guitars are complete. Lead guitar should probably be done this week and I'll begin working on vocals this upcoming weekend. At this point I'm not sure exactly how long it will take for us to get it out since we're recording at our own studio we can spend a lot of time mixing and tweaking things as we get ideas, but we hope to have it out within a month or so."

Drummer Flo Mounier of the Canadian metallers CRYPTOPSY recently spoke to Decibel magazine about the shift in the band's musical direction on their forthcoming sixth full-length studio album, "The Unspoken King".
"The Unspoken King" is CRYPTOPSY's first album to feature new keyboardist/samplist Maggie Durand (HOWLING SYN) and vocalist Matt McGachy, who is also a member of 3 MILE SCREAM.
"This was part of the idea we had when we started working on the new material," Flo told Decibel. "First, we wanted a keyboard/sample player who could add a little more live atmosphere. As far as a singer, we were just fed up with monotonous [makes staccato grunting noises] sound through whole albums. I'm a big fan of dynamics in music and creating diversity. We wanted something really extreme in some parts, but with melodics and ambience in others. We're not planning on using clean vocals all that much, but we wanted someone who could, just in case." Pennsylvania metallers, SeVer, issue the following update on their MySpace page:
"SeVeR would like to officially announce the departure of singer Matt Watson from the lineup. These decisions are always the most difficult to make in the life of a band, but sometimes necessary to ensure what is best for the band and its future. We still think of Matt as a good friend and wish him well in future projects." More...
The Pulse of Radio reports that MÖTLEY CRÜE's upcoming press conference on April 15 in Los Angeles will be streamed live on the web and broadcast live on the Fuse cable music channel, according to sources at the band's management company. The source indicated that the webcast will be handled by "Microsoft," although it wasn't clear whether that meant MSN.com. The event is tentatively set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will include what's being billed as a "colossal" announcement. Although management has denied reports that the group will be unveiling a festival-type "Cruefest" tour, it did confirm that up to two dozen other acts will be involved.
Some of the groups potentially participating include BUCKCHERRY, PAPA ROACH, DROWNING POOL, and CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx's side project, SIXX: A.M.
MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil announced from the stage Thursday night (April 3) during his performance in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida at the free weekly Clematis By Night party that CRÜE will kick off its upcoming tour at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach.
A 30-second snippet of a new MÖTLEY CRÜE song called "Saints of Los Angeles" surfaced online last week. The track will most likely appear on the band's upcoming new album, "The Dirt", due out on July 8. The title of the record is taken from the band's 2002 memoir of the same name. A single is expected to arrive at radio stations sometime within the next few weeks.
The CD will be the first all-new CRÜE album since 2000 and the first in more than a decade to feature all four original members. Sixx told RollingStone.com this week that the new CD "has the vibe of (classic CRÜE albums) 'Dr. Feelgood', 'Girls, Girls, Girls' and 'Shout at the Devil'," adding, "There's also a lot of humor because, let's face it, we're ridiculously funny."
Rob Zombie has issued the following update:
"Work on the new album is moving along great. We have about 10 songs so far and are still writing away like maniacs. No release date as of yet."
Rob Zombie called the record labels "dinosaurs waiting to die" in an interview in the March issue of Metal Edge magazine. Zombie said that the labels "all have a defeatist attitude. And that's why in another couple of years, they won't exist...They're just overpaid and lazy, and it's all crumbled around them. But the art is not going anywhere. You go out there, and there's more tours than ever, the shows are bigger than ever, the crowds are crazier than ever, the fans are younger than ever; there's no lack of demand for the music or the bands or anything. It's just that the record labels are these overstuffed, overpaid dinosaurs. They're gonna die. The music's not going anywhere."
Zombie said in a recent conference call that he's not sure what future music distribution will look like. "There's got to be something else you can do because CDs, we know that's done," he said. "That's just done. And a download is just not that exciting. There's something missing when you — you can't walk up to someone and go, 'Oh, can you autograph my download?' There's got to be something else that can then happen. I just don't know. I mean, we're certainly trying to figure out what it is, because I want to figure out something special for the next musical release, whatever it will be."
Zombie, who is also a feature film director, also told Metal Edge, "The problem with the record industry is that they've tried to emulate the film business. The film business is very much about the opening weekend...But with a record, it used to be that you'd work it." He added that with his recent concert CD, "Zombie Live", "They put it out there, they put, like, five minutes of work into it, and they're, like, 'We're done'...They say 'No one buys CDs,'so they don't bother to sell them."
GODHEAD has posted a three-minute video clip from the recording studio where the band is currently laying down tracks for its new album, tentatively due this summer.
Commented frontman Jason C. Miller: "This is basically me goofing off at the studio and filming Mike and Ullrich (who are actually working) with the camera attached to my Mac laptop. You get to hear more of the song 'Stay Back' which is going to appear on our new album so I hope you enjoy the song and the silliness!"
Long-running Seattle-based metallers METAL CHURCH have issued the following update:
"Ronny [Munroe, vocals] just flew into Seattle to finish the final vocal tracks for the new [METAL CHURCH] release. We are very pleased with the way it is turning out. Look forward to more updates along with some studio photos."
METAL CHURCH's new album, tentatively titled "This Present Wasteland", is scheduled for release later in the year.
The band recently parted ways with guitarist Jay Reynolds (also of MALICE) for "personal reasons." A replacement guitarist has not yet been announced.
COLDERA, the new melodic metal band featuring former CELLADOR guitarist Bill Hudson, former INTO ETERNITY drummer Adam Sagan, former OUTWORLD singer Carlos Zema and up-and-coming shredder John Slaughter, has issued the following update:
"After considering and talking to a lot of people from all around the world, we've been able to select the best bass player to complete our lineup. We're pretty sure most of you have heard of him, as his former band has become quite succesful in the last two years, especially in the USA, although he's based in the UK (hint?). This guy will blow everybody away with his technique, precision and amazing stage presence. We can't wait to take COLDERA on the road. That, along with the first pre-production track for our upcoming album will posted online during this upcoming week. Our MySpace page will also be officialy launched by then."
"If you want to check it out right now (it has no music yet), feel free to do so at www.myspace.com/officialcoldera."
COLDERA's debut album is expected to be released in the second half of 2008.

"This fucking tour is going to crush! We love the ACACIA STRAIN’s music and the great dudes in the band. THE WARRIORS are added to half the tour as well, so its not only gonna be a mosh nightmare but an awesome time with old friends. We are also going to debut around three new songs so we cant wait! UK true metal band CONQUEST OF STEEL are to begin work on their third album over the coming months. The record, a concept album named Storm Sword is a tale of a dystopian future set in a medieval past. The album will continue to feature Conquest of Steels distinctive take on classic 1980’s Heavy Metal, but will incorporate new musical ideas in keeping with the concept. Studio time is booked for summer 2008, with recording again taking place at both Priory and Red Flag Studios. A release is planned for early 2009.
Conquest of Steel have recently returned from their most successful European Tour to date, taking in Germany, Holland, Belgium and Czech Republic. Unfortunately the planned Swiss date was cancelled after singer Dan Durrant required hospital treatment for a hand injury following an accident on stage in Leipzig. Dan is recovering well and managed to complete the rest of the tour. More...
Non-stop touring Canadian hardcore band Comeback Kid announced that they will soon be embarking on an eight-month tour that will take them to the USA, Japan, South East Asia, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, South America, Europe and the UK.
CBK stop first in Hawaii for two dates in April before joining Canada's legendary political punk band Propagandhi in Japan for five dates starting April 16. CBK then fly to Southeast Asia to play in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. In May the band travels to Mexico for four shows and plans are just being finalized for a tour of Russia to follow in June. In June and July CBK also tour Portugal, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Austria, Italy, and the UK. After a short summer break, CBK have eight dates booked for South America.
Lead singer Andrew Neufeld describes his anticipation for the upcoming tours saying, "This year is shaping up to be pretty crazy. We really wanted to play some places that we haven't been before and go back to some countries that we don't get to often enough. We're going to Japan with Propagandhi who is one of most of us in Comeback Kid's favorite bands. We get to go to Central and South America, which we have been talking about forever, and go to South East Asia for the first time. All I can say is we're really, really excited!"
Comeback Kid recently finished a five-week headlining tour of the US, and there are rumors of a Canadian tour this October.
The band continues to tour in support of "Broadcasting..." (Smallman / Victory), released in 2007. Recorded with producer Bill Stevenson at the Blasting Room, the album exceeded all expectations for the follow-up to Comeback Kid's critically acclaimed sophomore album Wake the Dead (Smallman / Victory).

AAP reports that thousands of fans were forced to temporarily evacuate a concert by QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE in Hobart, Australia Friday night (April 4) when a stage light overheated, filling the venue with smoke.
Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) said the Hobart City Hall was cleared just before the band was due to take to the stage.
"The evacuation of the packed out venue was achieved with minimal effort that was made a lot easier by the cooperation of the patrons and abundance of emergency exit doors in the hall," the TFS said.
Fans waited on the footpath while firefighters fixed the problem — the light had overheated, melting its cover.
The concert began about 20 minutes late.
"The Tasmania Fire Service commends the concert patrons on their cooperation in vacating the premises quickly, allowing the source of the smoke to be rectified and the concert to get underway without much of a delay," the TFS said.
Veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers TESTAMENT will be the featured artist on MTV for an entire week later this spring as part of the channel's "52/52" campaign. Performances — including footage shot this past Wednesday (April 2) on the Alcatraz Island (more commonly known simply as Alcatraz) and video material that will be filmed at this Sunday's (April 6) concert at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City — along with interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage will air throughout the week.
MTV's "52/52" is a brand new way for the channel to give unprecedented exposure to unsigned artists, indie bands, and established acts on major labels in a completely new and innovative way. MTV handpicks one band/artist per week for the entire year and gives them the equivalent of roughly 11 hours of on-air commercial time per week on the channel.
As previously reported, TESTAMENT will answer your questions live on Sirius Satellite Radio's Hard Attack on Monday, April 7 between 12:00 p.m. (noon) and 1:00 p.m. EST.
Tune in for your chance to talk to resurrected metal gods Chuck Billy, Alex Skolnick, Eric Peterson, Greg Christian and Paul Bostaph as they proudly step into the Sirius studios to debut tracks off their forthcoming masterpiece, "The Formation of Damnation", due on April 29 through Nuclear Blast Records.
Get your questions and comments ready NOW and good luck getting through when you get the toll-free number to speak to your metallic heroes in TESTAMENT!

Aiming to fill the voids left by the recent departures of members Richard Turbeville and Lech, Through The Eyes Of The Dead has recruited two members for their upcoming tour dates. The band has tapped My Bitter End drummer Michael Ranne in addition to guitarist Hank (of Anyone But You) to join them on the road until they can nail down permanent replacements.
KULT OV AZAZEL guitarist/vocalist Xaphan has posted this message on the band's official website:
"Nine years ago this month Xul and I formed what has become known as KULT OV AZAZEL. Over these years many members have come and gone yet this band has been consistent in our vision and to what KULT OV AZAZEL represents. We have remained true to the roots and never wavered from our approach despite those who openly or through media outlets have denounced, avoided or shunned us. Nine years ago this band was founded on the tenets of Black Metal and it will continue to remain true to these principals. Thanks to those that have supported or helped KULT OV AZAZEL out in any way. To you we raise the horns!"
Billboard.com has issued the following report from Ray Waddell:
MÖTLEY CRÜE/SIXX: A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx has been named the president of Eleven Seven Records, Billboard can reveal.
"I find it very interesting to take the artist's craft, the art, the music, the image, and get it out there," he says. "It comes under the heading of 'record company president,' but it's a little more than that."
Sixx will oversee a roster that includes BUCKCHERRY, TRAPT, DROWNING POOL, MARION RAVEN and up-and-coming rock outfit CHOSEN SON.
"I've had enough success and enough misfires in a career that's lasted over 25 years that I can go back and draw on that experience, and I think that's helpful for the artists," Sixx says. "When I go into rehearsal rooms and meet with bands, they're genuinely excited to be with me because of what I've done as an artist, not because of anything else."
If you'd like to read more or want to hear what Sixx has to say on the forthcoming new Motley Crue album, click here.
