We post metal news every day, throughout the day, covering thousands of metal bands including underground and unsigned bands. You are currently browsing the news archive, but you can also find news by band.
37 news articles posted on this day.
This past Tuesday, April 1st, dawned with a bang and ended with the agonized wail of countless deceived, angry, and fed-up folks. It's what the kids these days might call "butthurt." Even in this high-speed age of unlimited information, it seems that some still have trouble checking the calendar or fact-checking stories.
Your Metalunderground.com Official Podcast co-hosts, Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) found this all quite amusing. So in the irreverent spirits of Mark Twain, Orson Welles, and The Onion, they decided Tuesday evening to chuck all journalistic ethics and decency right out the window and wage a valiant, side-splitting battle against truth.
This week's episode is one hundred percent fact-free, and features a tongue-in-cheek rundown of some of Metalunderground.com's 2014 April Fools highlights, posted as headlines throughout Tuesday.
Among the lampooned: every single member of Metallica (in what is sure to be an evil, thrashing comeback effort, "Hell Hath No Fury"), prison escapee Tim Lambesis (As I Lay Dying), evasive interviewee Phil Anselmo (Pantera, etc.), would-be cinematic deity Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), and noted Oscar-lacking actor Leonardo DiCaprio, whose "Meshuggah face" in the recent hit "The Wolf Of Wall Street" has earned him an onstage guest appearance with the twisted Swedish metal titans.
Please forgive the avalanche of lies and silly humor; we advise you to remove your "serious" caps for this episode. Also, a few bong rips beforehand wouldn't hurt. Take a listen here and enjoy!
Clad in black and painted in ghostly, skeletal white and gray, Montreal's Hollow is one of North America's most deceptively original and subversive underground metal acts today. Exploiting the surface aesthetics of black metal, the band surprises with an abundance of musical diversity and depth.
Years in the making, Hollow's analog-recorded debut studio effort "Mordrake" is finally ready to be unleashed May 30th. The album will contain twelve tracks, each of which combines black, death, thrash, symphonic, and progressive metal in a dizzying, memorable web.
To whet your appetite, Metalunderground.com is proud to exclusively premiere second single "Iscariot." Leaning toward Hollow's thrash and traditional metal influences, this is one of the more "riff-centric" offerings on "Mordrake."
"Iscariot" follows the March 1st release of "Landscape," Hollow's first official music video.

Yesterday German avant-garde metal outfit Todtgelichter announced the departure of three members. Now the band has checked in with the following vocalist update:
"Yesterday we had some news for you which will surely shape a new future for Todtgelichter. For those who didn’t read it, Tobias is no longer part of the band. You may read all about in yesterday’s post.
"We have decided to continue as a five-piece band with long-time (and honorary founding) member Marta as sole main vocalist, sometimes accompanied by backing vocals of Frederic. We think this is the best solution as she knows exactly what we are looking for in a vocalist, what the band needs and what moods we want to invoke. Furthermore her influence on songwriting has been growing over the last years and her skills have greatly improved also.
"Yes, that means she will take over ALL main parts. Those of you who think she can’t cope with the older songs, just you wait until she spits 'Blutstern' right into your faces!
"The new guitar player will be revealed tomorrow, so all that is left is: We're searching for a new bass player! Beware the new setup – watch us at the RAGNARÖK festival 2014!" More...

Pitch Black Records is pleased to announce the addition of symphonic black metal band Retribution from Valencia, Spain to the label's roster. Pitch Black comments:
"Formed in 2005, Retribution released a debut album in 2007 followed by an EP in 2013. The band now returns with a much more refined and matured sound creating superb, explosive symphonic black metal which is also complemented by choir arrangements.
"Featuring two vocalists, one handling the hellish growls and the other a soprano, Retribution is a fine example of the perfect marriage (in hell!) between symphonic and extreme music."

After a successful run of dates all across Europe, Napalm Death is proud to announce two very special projects that have been in the works recently.
Today Napalm Death is launching a special cover of "To Go Off And Things" by the Cardiacs. Give it a listen below or over at the Napalm Death Bandcamp page. Shane Embury comments:
"Since I was blessed with being introduced to Cardiacs way back in 1986 they have been one of my favorite bands of all time! Getting to meet and become friends with Tim Smith, the musical genius behind it all, over the years was an added bonus. Tim always struck me as a person with a massive heart, who had a very pure and innocent view of the world in which we live in - something I totally related to, as the world can be a dark place - he radiated happiness.
"We shared many fun and elaborate conversations after Cardiacs shows in the early 90's and I loved every minute of every conversation with him. I could go on and on for hours about how amazing his music is and the immense influence it has had on my life but suffice to say this cover of 'To Go Off And Things' that we have recorded is in tribute to the brilliance that is Tim Smith - it is the least we can do for a man who has given us so much.
"Tim has unfortunately been severely unwell for a few years now and we hope with this recording made available to everyone for download on our bandcamp site for only £1 (you can pay more if your heart so desires!) we can help raise some money to go towards Tim's rehabilitation! We hope you like our version of the song and find it in your heart to donate something towards such a worthy cause...Thanks for taking the time to read this." More...

"Anders voice is both strong and characteristic. We are now ready to play live again and support last autumn’s album release 'Womb of Lilithu.' More news will follow..." More...

Yet another shining jeweled crown to add to the growing reliquary of Mournful Congregation, 20 Buck Spin proudly presents "Concrescence Of The Sophia" to the North American cemetery.
Intended as an "in-between" release while the funeral directors sculpt a next full-length eulogy, the release begins with its title track, the 20+ minute "Concrescence Of The Sophia" where "the weight of all waters, and the mass of all stars" exacts a heavy toll in the timeless pursuit of mystical knowledge. On the B-side, "Silence Of The Passed," at a mere 9 minutes in length, nonetheless foretells how vast is the agency of doom.
20 Buck Spin will handle the North American release on June 24th -- set for digital, MCD and MLP pressings -- with Osmose mongering the wares to international lands.
Mournful Congregation is confirmed to headline two nights of the Martyrdoom fest on Friday, June 27th alongside Imprecation, Begrime Exemious, Geryon, and then again on Tuesday, July 1st, joined by 20 Buck Spin labelmates, Lycus, as well as Lord Mantis, Vilkacis and Evoken. More...

The track hails from Septuagint's forthcoming debut MCD, "Negative Void Trinity," set for international release on April 7th via Forever Plagued Records. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Another prospective band from the fertile Greek black metal scene, Septuagint play a fast black metal style that knows when to pace itself - not much different from some bands under the moniker of orthodox BM, but with their own Mediterranean flair. Lyrically, Septuagint are very religious, but the duo also distance themselves, to a certain degree, from being absorbed completely in any particular theological train of thought.
"Since 2006, Codex has been trying to compile his work to no avail. It's taken seven years to get all his work together for their debut EP, Negative Void Trinity, which is being proudly released by Forever Plagued.
