Borracho has released an official video for the first single from its 2011 debut album "Splitting Sky." Last August, I penned an OpEd titled “Metal Versus Society: A Vicious Cycle?” It built on the controversy of the fabled “West Memphis Three” to include a broader observation of the often-ugly dynamic between diehard metal fans – primarily those who look, dress, and talk the part – and the scruples of “normal” society that find convenient scapegoats in such black-clad, devil-music-listening hooligans.
I concluded that “we” are equally to blame in this cycle of demonization, whereby we often culturally segregate ourselves and point burning fingers at imaginary forces of oppression, all but inviting others to cast us in the role of pariah once more – and so it goes. What makes this cycle so enduring and vital is its very inconsistency; the controversy du jour is followed by a quiet period, which is shattered by yet another media event that implicates heavy metal music, its demonic fans, and its corruptive powers as agents of societal breakdown. We all know the drill. Sometimes, however, we can’t help ourselves, and falsely perpetuate the cycle by blowing a complete non-event so far out of proportion that it becomes – to some – our latest cause célèbre. In so doing, we sometimes risk tarnishing our own reputations. More...

Following the release of the "Hereditas" 10" late last summer, Brazilian grindcore faction Desalmado took Europe by storm on a brutal D.I.Y.-style November/December tour. The three-week venture saw the crew taking its crushing South American-style hate-fueled attack through Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, and more, all compiled in a killer new video "documentary." See the quintet's beer-swilling, prank-filled, mosh-powered trip through the continent below.
Desalmado has also recently completed the band's sophomore LP, which is now undergoing final preparations for its release early this Summer. The album was produced by Jean Dolabella of Sepultura and mastered by Jamal Ruhe at West West Side. A confirmed release date and full album info will be announced in the weeks ahead. For now ravenous fans can devour Desalmado's "Hereditas" 10" which is still streaming in its entirety via Hellbound.
Next week Desalmado will share the stage with Impurity, Acheron, and death metal gods Obituary in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, as part of Cogumelo Fest 2012, a one-off as the band formulates a next tour in support of the forthcoming album.

"This is it, 8Control is dead. After years we've decided to make an end to it, and split up 8Control. It wasn't an easy decision to take, but seems the best for many reasons. We have tons of great memories we'll keep in mind for life, but it is time to turn the page and move on...
"Even if it's an evidence in our minds that we are grateful to many people, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us during these years in any way: people who went to show, danced/headbanged/made a move etc. at a show, put us on a show, shared anything with us, bought some merch, had a kind word, played with us, talked about us...
"Basically, we want to thank our relatives, our friends, all the bands we met and played with, all the promoters who gave us an opportunity to play, of course all the people at the shows, and one more time anyone showing any kind of interest or support.
"Of course special thank to all these people who have ever played as 8Control, since day one. Some of them for a show, some of other for many years. More...

Swedish riff-lord, Grand Magus, has announced the departure of drummer Sebastian "Seb" Sippola, who has left the band for personal reasons. The band will replace Sippola with Ludwig “Ludde” Witt (Spiritual Beggars, Firebird, Shining) in the wake of the recording process of the band’s upcoming release, "The Hunt."
Commented Witt, “I'm very happy to announce that I, Ludwig Witt, am the new drummer of Grand Magus. I've known [guitarist/vocalist] JB for over ten years and I've been a fan of Grand Magus since day one, so it's great to be on board. At the moment I'm learning all the classic Grand Magus songs and I get a huge buzz from playing along to songs like ‘Kingslayer’ and ‘Like The Oar Strikes The Water’ so I can't wait to get out and play the stuff live together with the new stuff from our new album, The Hunt. See you on the road.”
Sippola leaves Grand Magus on good terms, and says he’s excited to hear The Hunt once it’s completed. “It took a load off my mind that Ludwig was chosen because he is a friend of mine,” said Sippola. “By the way, honestly and objective: In my opinion Ludwig is the best replacement for me because he already knows? JB and Fox [bass] and he exactly knows which demands the drumming at Grand Magus will make on him. They will be a great team and I'm really looking forward to see them live ?- though I have no idea, how my reaction will be in this situation.” More...

The new songs are more mature, sometimes harder, and playfully incorporate different stylistic influences. Gotthard will release the new album "Firebirth" on June 1st, 201 via Nuclear Blast/Warnermusic (in Switzerland Musikvertrieb). A total of 13 songs will be on the CD, among them one with the title “Where are You,” which is dedicated to Steve Lee. In the past few days, in the band-owned Yellow House Studios, music journalists from all over Europe were able to listen to the songs for the first time.
“GOTTHARD is recalling their roots,” is the opinion of the German magazine Rock Hard. “Earthy hard rock, heavy on riffs, with first class refrains and only a small amount of keyboards. A strong sign of life from the Swiss.”
And the Italian Rock Hard supplements: “GOTTHARD is going back to their roots and at the same time looking to the future. The entire album makes you tap your feet to the rhythm and your heart beat loudly.”
“We have remembered our roots and deliberately given the album the pure straightforward Gotthard sound. Our goal was to concentrate on the most important thing – the songs,” explained Leo Leoni, who produced the album together with Paul Lani.
The following press release was also issued about the artwork and upcoming tour dates:
"The album cover depicts the firebird Phoenix, which symbolically rises 'from the ashes to the sky' – this line expresses what each Gotthard fan feels and underlines the turbulent time that Gotthard has gone through in the past months. Everybody wanting to see the coverartwork as soon as possible has to proof some skills for that: from now on you can puzzle together the artwork here. As firebird Phoenix coming out of the ashes has surely been an event with a certain impact, this cover artwork cannot just be presented to you normally. More...
