Tearing themselves free from the depths of hell to ravage the metal community once again come the Greek demons comprising Septicflesh, a band at the pinnacle of symphonic death metal. The 2008 album "Communion" may have been a monstrosity that hit plenty of "best of" lists, but it was really only a teaser for the new release "The Great Mass" (reviewed here).
"The Great Mass" is nearly upon us, and the demons are on the warpath to herald the coming destruction. Sonic magicians Christos Antoniou and Sotiris Anunnaki V have shared their vision of the coming mass with Metalunderground.com, explaining the composition of the album and working with the Filmharmonic Orchestra and Choir of Prague to hit the right balance of death metal and orchestral elements. Twisted Sister drummer A.J. Pero has become the National Spokesperson for Fallen Blue, an organization created as a means to provide support, both emotional and financial, for the families of police officers who are killed outside the line of duty. Outside of drumming for Twisted Siste, Mr. Pero has dedicated his life to helping others less fortunate with his charity work.
"My name is A.J. Pero and I play drums for the Heavy Metal Band, TWISTED SISTER. I have been asked by John and Rachael from Fallen Blue to be a part of the Brotherhood. I jumped at the opportunity. I have become the National Spokesperson for this non-profit organization called Fallen Blue. I am honored to be a part of this family, this vital organization. I will help out 150%, so we can achieve our goals. Our goals are to help the families of these brave men and women who die outside the line of duty. When a police officer is killed outside the line of duty - whether accidentally or by their own hand due to job related stress - they don't receive the benefits. Some families can't even afford to have a funeral, never mind future bills. I've experienced that years ago when a friend on the job, stressed out and emotionally fried, shot himself. Our neighborhood stood together to help the wife and children. We had benefits and cookouts to raise money, but it just wasn't enough. This organization can and will become vital nationwide if we all recognize this is a reality and pull together our resources for all Law Enforcement Officers. Even though there are many different branches, we are all the same underneath and need to be treated as such. We would also like to eventually erect a physical Memorial where we can go and honor those killed outside the line of duty."

Derelict recently conducted an interview with the online zine HatredMeansWar, in which the band discussed the band's plan for an upcoming album and tour dates. Excerpts from the interview follow.
HatredMeansWar: Can you update us with what is going on with the band these days?
Eric: We're working pretty hard to promote our new EP, getting it out there, getting people to respond to it. Meanwhile we're writing the rest of our next album, which we're finishing in studio this Fall. In between we're playing lots of shows, and dealing with our van that seems to break down every 3 days, haha.
HatredMeansWar:Do you have any touring plans for the upcoming future?
Eric: With our next album, we're hoping to get out of Canada and go either to the US or Europe. The only real challenge is money. Time off from jobs, repairing vehicles, paying for touring visas... Those are the obstacles. They're not insurmountable, but they require time to prepare for. Rising gas prices and declining in-store CD sales really don't help. We'll also be touring Canada again at some point. Right now though the main focus is the next album.
HatredMeansWar:When can we expect the next full length?
Eric: We very much hope to have it out before the end of 2011. If all goes well there will be a string of release shows in Canada in Fall 2011. It all depends on some business details but that's really the goal.More...

Each week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we give our readers a look at a few underground bands from scenes around the world to help spread the word about them. In March, I had the chance to do a short tour in Japan, and one of the tour stops was the city of Nagoya. While there, I had the opportunity to share the stage with and meet some of the prominent members of the Nagoya scene.
The members of Deaflock, formed in 2000, spend their days breaking their backs and risking their digits in the factories of Nagoya's industrial wasteland outskirts, and their nights breaking their necks in the city's downtown metal clubs with their own brand of Bay Area thrash. Bringing to mind acts such as Exodus, Heathen, Vio-lence, and Forbidden, Deaflock has an impressive knack for drawing out the rumbling hook and face stomping rhythms, with hints of melody and progressive elements as well. Signed to Arctic Music Group in the U.S. and Alkemist Fanatix in Europe for the re-release of its debut full length album, “Reality of False Pasts,” which first saw the light of day in April of 2008, Deaflock is now looking to break out in a big way, with plans for the next installment of their catalog to be released sometime next year. The band has also appeared on locally released compilation albums put out by various underground labels in Japan. More...

"Kråkevisa (The Crow Song), also called Mannen og Kråka (The Farmer and the Crow), is a traditional folklore in the genre Scandinavian medieval ballads. I know it from primary school as we used to sing it in the school's choir. There are different versions in Norway, which also uses other melodies. It is one of the best known folk tunes in my home country, however, it is also well-known in Sweden, Denmark and across the Faeroe Island. It's interesting that Kråkevisa is said to be related to 'Hákun Ríður Í Timburskóg', the Faeroese children's rhyme. Let me translate Kråkevisa's first verse; first the Norwegian version, then the English one: More...

Omega Lithium has announced its new album will be titled "Kinetic," and the artwork can be viewed after the jump. The band commented on the album:
"The result sounds fresh, dynamic and haunting throughout. The musicians have thrown all ballast overboard, concentrating on the bare essentials: evocative, danceable songs with concise hooklines and sexy grooves. Machines were fused with rock elements, producing a harmonic whole, and as a result 'Kinetik' has turned into a sort of 'industrial rock dance' album, energetic, explosive and clearly more mass-compatible and open-minded than the densely produced material on their debut."
Vocalist Mya also added: "It's a catchy album which you can't listen to without banging your head or dancing. We've put a lot of love and energy into the production of it and hope that it will pay off. Listening to the material, there can be no doubt about that!"
